I don't blame the Devils for the contract; they did what they had to do in order to re-sign him. They circumvented by finding a loophole left open in the CBA and then get penalized for such carelessness of the league and the union. Now that I cannot understand.
And while Kovy's contract is the most extreme case, we can find shades of the same "circumvention" in Pronger's contract and Erhoff's.

Feel bad for the Devils and their fans but it doesn't change they still made an obvious attempt to use the loophole... It doesn't matter whether or not he left after, it was still offered. Not to mention he didn't sign the contract that caused them to lose their 1st, that was a different contract before they had to restructure it.
Anyways, thank god the Kings didn't sign this guy when he was a FA. I wanted him in the fold so bad but instead we went out and got Richards and Carter instead. Just goes to prove that maybe the Kings luck as a franchise has finally made a 180.
