Leafs 2013-14 Discussion

As far as I know, and anyone on theses boards, there is no proof he told Scott to do anything.  Scott is just as much a viable option to put on the ice as any other player, no?  If you say no then its purely biased on what you feel his role is.  If you say no because he is a "tough guy" for the Sabres then you're basically fining Rolston for the fact that Scott plays his role well.  If the NHL wants that out of the game then they need to pull their pants up and get the fuck out of the gray area.

Then the other important factor here no one is stating.  The Sabres were the AWAY team, they put their line out there first.  Toronto had the opportunity to react to that lineup and not put Kes out there if they felt he was in "danger".

Besides, if they put out someone to match Scott then there may not even have been a brawl in the first place.
Carlyle said he did it to diffuse the situation. He, along with many others, didnt expect scott to jump kessel

Lets be honest here as well, the Sabres for the past several seasons have had a toughness crisis. Ever since the Lucic on Miller incident the team has basically been labeled as soft, especially in a division with Boston. I feel strongly that Rolstons move was the right one to make, he wants to send a message to his team that they have each others back from now on.

An awesome choice for a young coach trying to get a young team together.

Oh god how naive can he be then? He really didn't expect Scott to challenge someone? This is how hockey has been for DECADES!

He doesnt need to say a word. A fight happened, Buffalo showed they didnt like it, they threw a fighter out right after the fight and he jumps a star. If I'm Carlyle Orr and Mclaren are lining up first shift next game.
Sending someone out there doesn't equate to telling him to target someone specific. Yes having him out there was a dumb move but I didn't condone that, what I said was there's no proof he told Scott to target Kessel which is outlandish.

Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

If we're going off of heresay, Scott said Kessel agreed to the fight. So without any further proof it's hard to proof differently

Had no other options? It's not like Scott was holding him down, Kessel had enough arm movement to swing his stick, he's damn sure faster than Scott all he had to do was take off. Saying he had no other options is just ridiculous  He had plenty of other options
If your in that situation your first reaction is to defend your self. Not run away.

I know. Nothing wrong with the first slash. I dont have a problem with the second slash either but when you make that second slash there are punishments. You wanna take that extra slash, youre gonna take some extra games. Preseason is nothing so extra games I mean a real suspension.
I would have been fine with 1 game. I was actually expecting it. I'm not sure if it's true but I was told the second slash didn't even hot which may have come into play. I'll have to look at that when I'm home. Anyways school so I'm done

Every person's different and saying he had no other choice is a cop out. Your first reaction, if you don't think it through is still subject to consequences. So saying his first reaction was to defend himself, while before you were saying he had NO CHOICE that's two entirely different things. He had a ton of choices he made the dumbest one possible and was subject to the punishment he got. You can say all you want that his first instinct was to defend himself, but to say he had no other choice is not true in the slightest

We can all feel bad for Brian Flynn though, who was beaten and blooded by arguably the softest player in the league

It's first instinct. It's not like he had time to sit there and think hmm I could do this... He did the right thing excluding the second slash.

Also yeah more Fylnn haha

He should work on his first instincts then because that's something that will get you into trouble. Even if it was his first instinct, the second slash there was plenty of time to think. Again not Scott's right, but saying Kessel was an idiot too and could have handled it better
