The Life of a SMJHL Rookie – Stransky Style (Part 1)</div>

Recently Matej Stransky attended the SMJHL Lottery Draft which was held on CBC last night and during that time he was asked some interesting questions, which we thought we would share with you, our readers to get an insight on what the “Life of a SMJHL Rookie” is all about.

ESPN Reporter: Matej, you have come in and tried to promote yourself well to the GM’s of the SMJHL with a recent media article and word of this exclusive “The Life of a SMJHL Rookie – Stransky Style” series, but let’s put the showmanship aside for a second and talk about what really matters to these GM’s and why you should be considered a 1st round choice. That ok with you?

Matej: Definitely. Ask away.

ESPN Reporter: Perfect. Rookies, especially high end one sometimes only spend one season in the SMJHL, so why should a SMJHL team pick you over anyone else?

Matej: Simply because I want to spend 2 seasons in the SMJHL, so this pick and selecting me is about having me for 2 seasons, not 1. I want to join the SHL when I am ready and more developed, because I have a lot of things to work on, so I think I can do that best in the SMJHL, rather than on the 3rd line on some SHL team. To me having returning SMJHL players is every junior GM’s ideal situation and me stating this now hopefully makes me the ideal candidate.

ESPN Reporter: Don’t you feel stating you want to spend 2 seasons in the SMJHL will hurt your chances of being drafted high in the SHL?

Matej: Not at all. I think the SHL GM’s are smart enough to want their players, especially there high end players to hit the ground running, not only for their team success, but because this keeps these rookies motivated. If I come in to the SHL, right after one season in juniors and struggle, which I probably would, then who does that help? No one to me, so to me this shows everyone I am committed to succeed be that in the SMJHL, or when I am ready in the SHL.

ESPN Reporter: All right then, one final question…does it matter if you play on a winning team or a losing team in the SMJHL as the season goes on?

Matej: If I play like I think I will, then the team I am on will be competitive, so this question answers itself. However, I know I can’t do it alone, we will need the right compliment of motivated new players and returning players to achieve the ultimate goal of winning the SMJHL Championship.

However, for right now I want to embrace this process and I am really looking forward to the interviews that we get to have with each team in the coming week or so. I think that will be a great opportunity to listen to each GM and their plans for the next season or two, and where I might fit.
