4-Games of Highlights

Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion Welcome to another edition of SHL Tonight, SMJHL edition. I am Always Getting Haxed bringing you tonight's highlights. Tonight there were four games on tap. So lets get things started. GAME 6: KELOWNA KNIGHTS (1-1-0) vs REGINA FORCE (0-1-1) :force: The Regina Force were looking for payback after losing to Kelowna in a shootout in their previous meeting. They would score first as Bronsen Zerchai scored on the powerplay a little more than 7 minutes into the first period. Things were looking good for Regina as the Knights seemed to be undisciplined from the drop of the puck. But less then 3 minutes after Regina took the lead, the momentum had swung as the Knights scored a pair of goals 45 seconds apart. With Damien Giannotti scoring his first goal of the season, followed shortly by Daniel Acker's first goal on Kelowna's own powerplay tally. The second period, however would be all Regina, as they would score their first of four goals in the opening 25 seconds of the period. With Hermoine Granger notching his second goal of the young season. After coincidental penalties early in the period, the next four, and if you include the third period, six penalties would be called on the Knights. Jordan Lacouture would score his first goal just past the half-way mark in what would be the game-winning goal. This would also lead to Kelowna pulling their starting goalie, Aboud Chamas, after he gave up 4 goals on 15 shots. The last two minutes of the period saw both Granger and Zerchai pick up their second goals of the game, with Zerchai's again on the powerplay. The third period would see the Force control the pace for much of the time, as they out shot Kelowna 13-6. Mo Lester would add another powerplay goal to the Regina side, to become the final score of 6-2 Force. Mitch Kostur played fairly solid in net making 21 saves on 23 shots, for Regina's first win of the season. Bronsen Zerchai scoring one of his two powerplay goals. 2 Goals: Giannotti (1), Acker (1) Goalie: Chamas 11 SVs (L) Record: 1-2-0 :force: 6 Goals: Zerchai (1, 2), Granger (2, 3), Lacouture (1), Lester (1) Goalie: Kostur 21 SVs (W) Record: 1-1-1 GAME 7: KELOWNA KNIGHTS (1-2-0) vs VANCOUVER WHALERS (1-0-0) The Knights didn't have long to dwell on their loss to Regina, as they had to play Vancouver in short order. Vancouver's only game of the season was a 4-2 win over these Knights nights earlier. The period was fairly even as the Knights learned to play a more disciplined game and stay out of the penalty box. Unfortunately, for them the Whalers had a 2-0 lead after the first. Goals from Marius Jeremiassen III and Thomas King would give the Whalers another early lead against the Knights. The second period would start of with Kelowna climbing back into it 12 seconds in, on a goal by Kenton Kane, his first of the season. But that would be as close as the Knights would get to tying the Whalers, as Jay Robinson's second goal of the season near the half way mark, gave Vancouver its 2 goal lead back. With a little less than 5 minutes left in the period it would extend to 3 goals, as Ingus Grigorjevs scored his first on the powerplay, while Kane sat in the box. This goal would also lead to Aboud Chamas being chased for the second game of the night, as he again allowed 4 goals on 15 shots. The third period saw the Knights try with a furious comeback as they out shot Vancouver 10-3, but Kayl Kuzie would find a way to beat Whalers' goalkeeper Mike Schmidt, who made 25 saves on 27 shots to go to 2 wins on the season. Jay Robinson scoring for Vancouver. 2 Goals: K. Kane (1), Kuzie (1) Goalie: Chamas 11 SVs (L) Record: 1-3-0 4 Goals: Jeremiassen (1), T. King (2), J. Robinson (2), Grigorjevs (1) Goalie: M. Schmidt 25 SVs (W) Record: 2-0-0 GAME 8: :force: REGINA FORCE (1-1-1) vs DETROIT FALCONS (1-0-0) This is the second matchup of these two teams, with Detroit taking the first game 3 to 2. This game was just as tight as the first with the teams nearly equal in opportunities all night long. The Falcons would jump out early, nearly 2 and half minutes in, Janis Vitols would score his first goal of the season. A little more then 3 minutes later, the Force would tie the game as Turd Ferguson, Jr. scored his first. Detroit would score a very late goal with a little more than 30 seconds left till the end of the period. Valts Pavasars would score his second goal of the year, beating Force goaltender Mitch Kostur. The second period would see Detroit get a shot advantage over the Force as the Force became undisciplined. Detroit was given 4 powerplays but were unable to beat a solid playing Kostur, who was the Force's best penalty killer of the night. Regina, too, was unable to capitalize on their only powerplay of the period, and the 2nd would end with no change to the score line. The third would see an advantage in play and shots to Regina, but saw Detroit score first. Eric Hudson would score his first goal of the season a little more than 11 minutes into the period. The Force would make the game interesting as the scored with 5 minutes left in the game, when McLovin (who comes up with a name like McLovin, and goes Cher with it?) popped home a powerplay goal for his first of many goals this year. Zerchai picked up his second assist of the game, and his fifth point of the night, between Regina's two games. Even with a very late penalty to Detroit, Regina couldn't find the tying goal to get past Detroit's netminder, Colin Schmidt. Eric Hudson scoring his first goal of the season. :force: 2 Goals: Ferguson (1), McLovin (1) Goalie: Kostur 19 SVs (L) Record: 1-2-1 3 Goals: Vitols (1), Pavasars (2), Hudson (1) Goalie: C. Schmidt 21 SVs (W) Record: 2-0-0 GAME 9: :impact: MONTREAL IMPACT (1-1-0) vs ST. LOUIS SCARECROWS (1-1-0) This would be the third consecutive game between these two opponents. The first two games were high scoring affairs, with both teams winning a game and scoring a combined 14 goals. Lets see if any bad blood was spilled, and if any defense showed up for tonight's match. In the first the Scarecrows would dominate the period, out shooting the Impact 10-3. But it would see them on the wrong side of the scoreboard, as Billy Derlago notched his first goal of the season past St. Louis backstop, Jackson Weekes. The first would also see our first fight in the young SMJHL season, as apparently James Ryan (St. Louis) and Eric Scheib (Montreal), couldn't agree on where to go for dinner after the game. Apparently, they decided to go to Ryan's restaurant, as he won the bout. The second frame would see St. Louis again out shoot the Impact, but only 10-8 this time. The period was marked by stellar goaltending at both ends of the ice. As both Weekes and Montreal starter, Dymo Ranjan, who was looking to bounce back after being pulled his last game, stood on their heads. However, the end of the period was marred with more blood being spilled, when Jonathan Kane took a major for boarding, and put St. Louis behind the eight ball. The third period would play pretty even, thanks to Kane's major penalty, giving Montreal over 3 minutes of powerplay time to start the period. This would also lead to the only goal of the frame, as Matiss Kokins scored his third goal of the year, 26 seconds into the period. From there, Weekes would allow no more goals, but neither would Ranjan, who would record his first shutout of the season. Dymo Ranjan making one of his 28 saves en route to a shutout. 0 Goals: Goalie: J. Weekes 16 SVs (L) Record: 1-2-0 :impact: 2 Goals: Derlago (1), Kokins (3) Goalie: Ranjan 28 SVs (W) Record: 2-1-0 ALWAYS GETTING HAXED'S 3-STARS of the NIGHT
