Krivokrasov Free Agency Decision
#1

Well, here we are.

Throughout the day today I narrowed down my free agency search from 12 teams to 3. Whether it was cap space, general manager a poor fit, or a needed change there was something that held me back from picking either of the nine teams. But we have no arrived at my final three teams, Calgary, Manhattan and Texas. Each of the three teams brought a lot to the table but I'm pretty confident in my decision.

From the beginning of my free agency, I had two teams in mind, with both remaining in the hunt. Each of those two teams impressed me enough to keep them in the running until now. A third team, who also joins in this hunt was incredible with their pursuit and it came to the point where I had to strongly consider them. It was that appealing.

Why I would sign with the Dragons

Calgary is up and coming, but they are not your typical up and coming roster. The Dragons have some long term fun and exciting members, along with a new collection of energetic guys, which fulfills criteria number one for me. Jamie was always the first person to send me a PM when I came back to the site and is one of my better friends here. I also love Gorlab and Vermy, two guys who chirp a lot on here and I always love that. Ofer is also a long time friend, who has done a pretty nice job with the Dragons on a management perspective. The Dragons, being up and coming, have plenty of room for a forward about to enter his prime. I know I'd have big minutes in Calgary, which, again was appealing to me.

Why I wouldn't sign with the Dragons

Calgary is certainly a friendly looking destination, but of the three teams remaining in the hunt, they pursued me the least. I'd say their management more expressed their interest than went after hard as the other two teams and a couple that I already eliminated did. I want to be a priority and a key piece and I wasn't sure that I was viewed as that way in Calgary.

Why I would sign with the Rage

Ocho has been a guy I've talked with about every which thing for probably the better part of 10 seasons now. We broke in as junior GM's together and I got to know him through some trade talks. We got promoted to SHL Co-GM at right around the same time as well, and became closer friends through those negotiations and have been pretty tight ever since. Diamond Ace is someone who I have always viewed as one of the best GM minds in SHL history and his interest in me and pitch to me was short but strong. Ocho put an incredible push to get me in. Were circumstances different, I could've seen me signing here from the beginning and dodging this process. He was that good. While there are a few TPE Monsters here, I think I would slot in nicely. The core of JNH, Wong and Yousef is top notch, but Ocho stressed that they wouldn't play together. You really can't beat the chance to play with one of those guys.

Why I wouldn't sign with the Rage

While the core looks great now, what are we looking at in two seasons? JNH will be gone and Wong and the Bluk's could be looking to leave as well once JNH does. This team is as stacked as any for the near future, but will they have the pieces past that. I believe I will be ready to step into a franchise player role soon, but I want to be one of 3-4 franchise players, not simply the only piece, or one of two. I think Ocho has the ability to keep the team competitive, but without those members, I would be hesitant that the locker room and on ice product would still be top notch.

Why I would sign with the Renegades

The Gades are a perfect choice for any person and seemingly especially so in my shoes. Texas has an all star goaltender, a top of the line defense, but seem to be very young up front, with plenty of room for improvement. The Renegades are primed to contend now with the veterans that they have, but luckily for me these veterans are not ones that will get in my way. In terms of locker room.....wow. These guys came at me hard. It was not just the GMs that approached me, but 6-7 members of the team all came at me with lengthy messages. I always felt like a priority to the team members there. Some members came in with more than one message even if I didn't respond, which I didn't to many people simply because of the volume. I was a cool feeling.

Why I wouldn't sign with the Renegades

The Gades seem primed to move forward, but they are also right now at a cross roads. This team could go in a couple of directions and while either could be great for me, they could also hurt me. Do they have too many players around my ability level, that could surpass me if I struggle in the sim? Do they have too many veterans who could leave and diminish the quality of the locker room or the on ice product? Or do they have too many big personalities that could over shadow me, even though I am friends with many? Will any of these situations happen? Who knows. But when you have an open playing field, it's something you have to consider.

I had a statement from 2 of these 3 GM's to include with their section but they are no longer in my PMs :(.

I'll preface this decision by saying that I know I'd fit in with any of these teams. I had two teams in mind from the beginning and a third pushed hard to get themselves firmly in the race. But at the end of the day, one situation simply rose above the others. So next season, I will be playing my hockey with the...............

Renegades TEXAS RENEGADES Renegades

These guys were incredible in making me feel like a priority and showing me exactly where I would fit into their lineup. I think their locker room seems like an incredible place that I'm excited to be a part of. I'd like to thank the Dragons and Rage for their pursuit, you did make it difficult. I had Calgary as the front runners in my pursuit from the beginning but Texas made the best move. Manhattan was really close man. Ocho had me pretty sold, but the supporting cast in Texas is what drove me home. A player on a different team messaged me to tell me I should sign in Texas, that's how much he enjoyed his time there. Those kind of things struck a chord.

Excited to be a 'Gade! I'll answer questions here too!
