2-1
WC: 512

Anaheim enters this game 3-7 while St. Louis holds a record of 5-5. In their first meeting of the season Anaheim looks to turn their slow start to the season around while St. Louis tries to keep the momentum they gained from winning 4 of their last 5 games.

First Period
In the first minute of play, each team immediately get a shot off on the opposing teams but both attempts are in vain getting stopped by the other teams goalie. This back and forth play would be the story of the first period with each team trading shot for shot. Luckily for both teams their defense and goalies don't allow a single puck to get past them.

Current Score: 0-0
Shots: Anaheim: 8 - St. Louis: 5

Second Period
The second period starts right where the first left off at with both teams scrambling to get the first score for the game. As we hit the 7 minute mark the first penalties for each team are given out with Barret Blackwood getting called for hooking and Henrik Sapotchik getting called for roughing. With Anaheim losing one of their defenseman, St. Louis goes on the offensive but their offense just isn't strong enough after the lost of Blackwood. However after stopping Anaheim's responding offensive push, they are allowed another chance and immediately capitalize on it. After a missed shot by Ruslan Zaporozhets, Mattie Brunton is able to recover the puck and score the first goal of the game! Unfortunately for fans the second period would close without another score from either team.

Current Score: 0-1
Shots: Anaheim: 5 - St. Louis: 10

Third Period
As we head into the third period with just a single point difference, Anaheim looks to mount a comeback while St. Louis tries to extend their lead or at least hang on with their single point. The back and forth play of the first two periods seems to continue until we hit the 11 minute mark where after a series of face offs between each team, Anaheim is able to take control of the puck and orchestrate an offensive push. At first it seemed like St. Louis had it under control but after a blocked shot by Marques Brownlee, Leonid Kofix comes in and is able to get the puck past him! After a few shots by St. Louis, Anaheim would take possession of the puck and respond with 10 shots of their own, but unfortunately for them all 10 of them either missed the net or were blocked. Just as it seemed Anaheim's momentum was killed, Nick Connolly is able to get one last shot in, but his shot would be deflected..... into the goal by Leonid Kofix for his second goal of the game! As Anaheim takes the lead the rest of the game would end with only one more shot by each team resulting in a 2-1 Anaheim victory.

Final Score: 2-1
Shots: Anaheim: 10 - St. Louis: 4

THREE STARS

1st Star - Leonid Kofix Outlaws played a starring role in a massive win for the Anaheim Outlaws. The left winger scored both of Anaheim’s goals (both of which were scored in period number three), showing off his clutch gene by bringing home the win for the Southern California outfit.

2nd Star - Mattie Brunton Scarecrows is a name most people haven’t heard ever, but the defenseman let you know he’s here in a big way in this game, scoring the only Scarecrow goal (one that seemed to grab them the game until Kofix’s star showing).

3rd Star - Ivan Maximus Outlaws had the secondary assist on Kofix’s first goal and played a solid game throughout, as he also had 4 shots and 2 hits for a victorious Outlaw team.

Kofix - Anaheim’s MVP?

Leonid Kofix is a name that most have never really heard of. The left winger, who currently plays on Anaheim’s second line, is a quiet, unassuming lad off the ice. But on it, he’s a force to be reckoned with, and it showed with his fantastic performance in this game. Kofix scored both of the Outlaws’ goals in a massively important 2-1 win over the St. Louis Scarecrows. The Canadian youngster scored on 2 of his 5 shots for a shooting percentage of 40% during the game, and played well defensively, with a +1 plus-minus. He was definitely the MVP of this game for the Outlaws, who seemed to struggle without him on the ice last night. A great game for young Kofix, and he should be happy with the way he played.

Is Marques Brownlee In Trouble?

It looked to be a routine day for young Marques Brownlee. The starting goalie for the St. Louis Scarecrows, Brownlee had looked good both during the season and in this particular game, saving all 13 Anaheim shots throughout the first two periods. And then some sort of switch flipped in his brain. He looked less sure of himself, and conceded two fairly late goals (11 and 14 minutes in respectively) to lose the game. Yes, questions can be asked about the lack of performance from the Scarecrows’ star top line of Bruchevski - Hernadivic - Blackwood, but Brownlee seems to have mental lapses at the worst of times. He needs to grow more confident in himself or else he’s in some massive trouble.

Low Score

You have some games where's this lots of goals but this was a stalemate for a lot of the time. Anaheim had to dig deep and hold on to a very tight lead, which their defense deserves credit for not crumbling under that pressure. One goal leads, the other team still has hope and thinks they can come back, so you have to fight to not give it all up. A lot of teams have high powered offenses that just go to scoring contests in juniors, but these two teams showed poise and composure and plenty of patience. They are very refined and seem to be playing like pros which is a good sign for their players' futures.

Defensive 3 stars
1- Nicholas Owens: Nick Owens managed to sneak this one out with 2 hits, 2 blocks and a +1 rating on the night.
2- Rath McLeod: 2 blocks and a hit was enough to make his way into the defensive 3 stars. With a 0 rating, he didn't really produce anything for his team, but stopped the Scarecrows from doing the same
3 - Tucker Centennial: Being on the losing team but still doing well defensively is a personal victory. With 2 hits and a block, Centennial did his part in preventing the Outlaws from running away with the game

Bad Discipline

In a tie game, you should keep a level head. You don't want to give up bad penalties and give your opponents better chances to score. As the Scarecrows moved out of their zone midway in the 3rd period an errant pass caused Ruslan Zaporozhets to panic and take a bad hooking penalty which resulted in the Outlaws taking a 2-1 lead which they held to win the game. Both teams had 3 penalties, one of which was a coincidental minor for roughing. In a game as close as this one, any mistake could prove costly, as Zaporozhets found out

Captain Clutch
Leonid Kofix is the obvious choice for Captain Clutch. After a slow first period and a dismal second, the Outlaws needed someone to step up and get them back into it. After 11 minutes passed in the 3rd period, Kofix took it upon himself to be that man. Scoring one goal at even strength, then capitalizing on a power play goal after a bad penalty by the Scarecrows he put the Outlaws ahead with under 6 minutes left to play. He finished up his stat line with 2 goals, 5 shots with over 3:30 on the special teams.

When the last man stands tall

Everyone loves to see a high scoring game with a lot of chances, as long as you aren't the coach of one of those teams and of course when you aren't the poor man between the pipes. In this game the goalies had their big day, both showed a excellent performance. Patrick Niederreiter from Anaheim with 1 goal against out of 19 shots for a save % of 0.947. Marques Brownlee his counterpart down the ice dressed in a St. Louis jersey got 2 goals out of 23 shots for save % of 0.913. It wasn't a game with a lot of shots.
