Pregame
The Halifax Raiders entered the game coming off of a 6-1 thumping of Detroit. The Raptors were coming off of an equally impressive destruction of the Anchorage Armada, a 7-2 beat down. The Raptors were 11-5 coming into the game and the Raiders entered at 10-6. It looked to be two teams doing well and ready to compete.

First Period
Colorado came out hot, lighting the lamp for the first time at the 1:17 mark. Denver Wolfe intercepted a pass from Finn-Rhys and the Raptors made the Raiders pay for the costly turnover. Bo Kane scored the even strength goal with assists from Denver Wolfe and Derek Bohne Jr. The Raptors wasted little time in getting on the board again. Bo Kane netted his second of the game with assists from Emeka Valentine-Okoli and Denver Wolfe picked up his second helper 3:16 into the first. The teams traded some further back and forth, but the Raptors killed a penalty from Anthony Archer which seemed to light their fire further. Ja'Aj Coitus-Wagg potted his fourth of the year with assists from Daniel Kuster and Anthony Archer at 10:34 into the first after Kuster won the race to a free puck in the corner. Jaakko Jarvinen was signalled for tripping and went to the box and the Raptors responded with their fourth goal of the period, a powerplay goal from Denver Wolfe with Bo Kane assisting at 15:14 in the period. The Raiders had seen enough from Biz Nasty for night and he was yanked. Monty Montgomery came on in relief in attempt to prevent any further bleeding. It looked as though things were going to get chippy after Sydney Mahoney was sent to the locker room for a nasty Spearing incident 10 seconds later. Thankfully, the Raiders were already depressed beyond belief by the first period barrage from the Raptors and the incident passed without ado.

Shots: Raiders 4, Raptors 11
Score: Raiders 0, Raptors 4

Second Period
Whatever reaming coach did in the locker room didn't inspire much in The Raiders as they again came out flat and played a poor second period. Emeka Valentine-Okoli smoked his seventh of the season past the outstretched glove of Montgomery with an adept assist from Bo Kane 4:24 into the period. Tempers were high on the Raiders and Monty Montgomery was tagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty 11:48 into the period. Again, it seemed as though things could explode into gore any moment, but the Raptors took a look at the scoreboard and did not respond to the instigation. The Raiders did manage to kill the penalty, but all hope was already lost. Calogero Crudelli swiveled his hips and snapped his 13th of the year past a sprawling Montgomery who was forced side to side by some neat passing from Emeka Valentine-Okoli and Heat Siecker at 16:22 in the period. Bo Kane went to the box for high sticking, but the Raiders were not able to capitalize.

Shots: Raiders 4, Raptors 10
Score: Raiders 0, Raptors 6

Third Period
Someone must have reminded the Raiders they were playing a game of hockey and not competitive napping as they finally awoke from their full-game slumber to come out with some feeling. Despite playing better in the third the only saving grace for the game for the Raiders came with under two minutes to play when Karl Krashwagen scored his seventh of the season to break-up the shutout. Thicc Cheezy and Adam Barron assisted. It was far too little, far too late and the Raptors stepped away with the convincing win.

Shots: Raiders 10, Raptors 15
Score: Raiders 1, Raptors 6

Key to Success
A lack of tenacity and a desire to win the races cost the Raiders throughout. Poor play all around from the Raiders caused them to collapse as a unit. The Raptors took full advantage of the Raiders numerous turnovers and lack of cohesion to race ahead to an insurmountable lead. Even when the Raiders turned it up in the third, the Raptors exceeded them at every step.

Three Stars:
1 - Bo Kane (COL) with 2 goals and 2 assists, a plus 4 on the night, was a well-deserving first star.
2 - Emeka Valentine-Okoli (COL) with a goal and 2 assists, a plus 4 on the night.
3 - Denver Wolfe (COL) with a goal and 2 assists, and a plus 2 on the night.

Comment 1: It turned Nasty
The game was not fun for goaltender Biz Nasty of the Halifax Raiders. The Colorado Raptors eat him whole in less than twenty minutes. Everything started with two goals by Bo Kane in less than two minutes. He was helped by Denver Wolfe, Derek Bohne Jr. and Emeka Valentine-Okoli on those two goals. Seven minutes later, it was Ja’Aj Coitus-Wagg’s turn to beat Biz Nasty with the help of Daniel Kuster and Anthony Archer. The final jab to Biz Nasty came on the power play. At 15 minutes in the period, Denver Wolfe, helped by Bo Kane, sent the Halifax Raiders on the bench.

Comment 2: The Mahoney Case
It’s not every day that you see a game misconduct given to a player. It’s also not every day that you see such a blow up in the first period. Turn out that it was too much for the third paring defensemen of the Halifax Raiders, Sydney Mahoney. After seeing Denver Wolfe score on the 9th shot of the Colorado Raptors and ousting their goaltender Biz Nasty who allowed four goal, Sydney Mahoney decided that it was enough. Barely ten seconds after the period resumed, he decided to try to slow down the Colorado Raptors offence by attacking the manhood of his current Nightmare, Bo Kane. After crushing some jewels, that the referee clearly saw, Sydney Mahoney was ejected.

Comment 3: The caps stayed on the fans head
Two goals to start the period. Bo Kane managed to score twice under a minute. One time at 1 minutes 17 seconds in the period and the second time at 3 minutes 16 seconds. This was his two first shot in the game. This meant that Bo Kane had exactly 56 minutes and 44 seconds to score a hat trick. And it’s not like he didn’t try either. Well, he didn’t have a lot of opportunities, if I am running the numbers, but I know he tried at least twice after that. The first time, it was defenseman Jaakko Jarvinen that blocked his shot and the second time, the goalie Monty Montgomery caught the puck in his glove and didn’t give him a rebound. This mean that Bo Kane added two more chances to do his hat trick and didn’t manage to cash in.

Dark Horse

A lot of sports are flawed in that the only people that ever get recognition are the ones who amass points. This is why defenders and goalies don't get the recognition they deserve although they put their body and soul to protect their team. The dark horse of this match who did not get one of the stars is without a doubt Emiko Spector, the man himself. Emiko Spector is a veteran in the league as he was drafted in the S47 SMJHL draft and decided to stay in the SMJHL for 3 seasons nows. As you can imagine he has earned a lot of tpe through his hard work and training to put him at the top of the league. He is arguably one of the best goaltenders in the league playing for one of the stronger tier teams in the SMJHL right now. In this game alone, Emiko Spector only conceded one goal in the 18 shots he faced, giving him a save percentage of 94.4%. He also has 12 wins at this point in the game, making him one of the goalies with the highest win ration. Emiko is a giant Japanese on the ice standing at 6'5" and as you can imagine he carries those asian genes which give him crazy agility and reaction time. He is also a strong contender for the best goalie award.

Plug of the Game:

Here we go again, as we begin the Week 4 edition of POTG and we start off with a doozy.  I'm going to give it to two players this game, considering one was thrown out of the game just a few minutes after it began. Sydney Mahoney of the Halifax Raiders, just about halfway through the middle of the first period took a spearing penalty and received a major & game misconduct, causing the Raptors to get a huge powerplay on which they scored twice.  No worries though, as Biggus Lickus took the crown for the remainderof the game as he posted a -4 rating (a team low), no points, no shots, and winning just 8 out 18 faceoffs.

Domination

The Colorado Raptors completely dominated Halifax and made them look like boys against men. The Raiders have to be completely embarrassed after such an awful performance. They were really off their game and Colorado pounced. The Raptors buried them early with 4 goals in the first, allowing none on their own end. All of their players were ready to go for the kill and were really driving the offense from the start. They never looked back from there and coasted to victory. They made sure to get a few more goals to add insult to injury and I imagine they were gloating and laughing in the locker room after this one, what a blow out.
