3-4
WC: 783

The Halifax Raiders who are coming off of a 5 game losing streak enter this game with a record of 11-12 while as Lethbridge boast a record of 11-12 as well but unlike their opposition have won 2 of their last 5 games.

First Period

The Halifax Raiders start off the game with a bang. The first score of the game comes at the 6 minute mark by Karl Krashwagen off of passes by Haley Knight and FR Finn-Rhys. In the coming 10 minutes, the game would be back and forth between the two teams but luckily for both the other would not be able surpass their defensive efforts leading to a scoring drought. That is until we hit the 16 minute mark where off of a face off victory by Julien Villeneuve, the Raiders are able to take possession of the puck. After each team trade pass interceptions, Julien Villeneuve is able to get a clear shot off that just barely misses the net, but fortunately for them their rookie defenseman, Abel Skinner, quickly retrieves it and is able to put the puck into the net. In the last few minutes of play for the first period, both teams would be able to orchestrate offensive pushes but both would end in vain.

Current Score: 2-0

Second Period

Right as the second period starts the Lions go on the offensive, trying to comeback from their 2-0 defecate. After a relentless barrage of shots in only the first minute of play, Niklas Fuhrberg is able to score the first goal of the period after retrieving the free puck from a stopped shot by Jules L'Eclair. After some great defensive play from the Lions after their goal they are able to take control of the game once more, moving the puck into Raider territory. The Raider's defense seemed strong at first but Hugh Jazz is able to get a shot on goal that is deflected by his teammate Luca Veccelli to tie the game up 2-2. After their an exciting first few minutes of the period, the pace of the game slowed down until just before the 13 minute mark where Jack Wilson would be called for a minor penalty of holding. This seemed to wake up the Raider's offense a bit, launching an attack on the Lions weakened defenses. However luckily for the lions their goalie, Markus Tegernako, would be an unpassable wall, stopping 3 shots dead in their tracks. Just as Jack would be able to hit the ice once more, the Lions would go on the offensive after heroics by their goalie. At first it seemed Raider's goalie Monty Montgomery would answer back with his own 2 saves but after a pass by Jack Wilson to Niklas Fuhrberg a puck is able to get pass him. After the third Lion's goal of the period it would be a goalie showcase with both goalies topping two shots each, resulting in no further goals for the second period.

Current Score: 2-3

Third Period

With the score of 2-3 the third period would start off quietly as both teams offenses aren't able to get past the opposing teams defense. Things start to pick up however as we get to the 7 minute mark. With Halifax down one with only 13 minutes of the game to go, they launch a barrage of shots onto the Lion's goalie. Unfortunate for them however they would be stopped by the Lion's defense, most notably their goalie, Markus Tegernako, with 3 stops of his own. Just as it seemed hopeless for Raider's as the Lion's once again took possession of the puck, Sydney Mahoney would be able to intercept a pass and deliver the puck right into Lion territory after passes between Timmo Kyllonen and Atlas Rush. With the defense still rushing back to their side of the court, Atlas Rush would be able to get a clear shot off and tie the game 3-3. As we hit the halfway point of this period the Lions would be able to quickly move the puck onto the Raider's side of the court after some quick passes, but a shot by Cody would be stopped by Monty Montgomery resulting in a faceoff. Fortunately for the Lions, Luca Veccelli would be able to win the faceoff and quickly pass the puck to Hugh Jazz for a Lion's goal. After making the score 3-4 the Lions would use that momentum to take over the period, giving the Raiders not a single chance to come back but no goals would be scored for the rest of the night.

Final Score: 3-4

Plug of the Game:

The 15th and final episode of POTG for this season ends in a quiet matchup, where the Lethbridge Lions hosted & ousted the Halifax Raiders. The game saw Lethbridge fall behind 2-0 early but rallied back to win 4-3 in regulation, and today's winner is a previous one... Indigo Trevino. The depth forward for the Raiders wins POTG for the second time this season, after yet another disappointing performance. Over 17 minutes of ice time, including nearly 3 of them on the powerplay, he registered a single shot but no points, and finished with a team-low -3 on the evening... all coming in the second period, during the Lions rally.

Losing Streak

This was the sixth loss in a row for Halifax. That's absolutely awful and it sort of has been snowballing. The more games you lose the less confident you are, and Halifax is really spiraling out of control. It's like they're just going through the motions. They wanted to snap their losing streak against Lethbridge, but came up one goal short and will have to wait until the next game to have another chance. Their coach needs to take a deep hard look at the team and make some changes right now, because clearly something is very wrong for the Raiders. They can't just sit back and expect things to magically get better.

Raiders' Coaching Staff Drop The Ball -

The Raiders started off strong tonight with a successful deployment of their top forward unit. 2 goals on 11 shots and a successful defense of the Lions offense through the 1st set them up to potentially end their long-drawn-out losing streak. The coaching staff, however, had different plans and seemingly sabotaged the team's chance to win through their line deployment. The Raiders 1st line ended up with 13:43 of ice time. Compared to the 2nd line (15:47) and 3rd line (14:53), the Raiders had their best group of players on the ice the 2nd least amount of time tonight, allowing their weak bottom 6 to defend a much deeper Lions lineup.

Defensive 3 Stars
1- Cal Clucker: 2 hits, 2 blocks, +1 and an assist was a great night for Cal Clucker who skated almost 4 minutes on his teams penalty kill unit as well
2- Jakob Hamr: Any + at the end of the night is a good indication of defensive play, 2 hits a shot block cements the fact you sacrificed for your team to protect your win
3- Akira Ren: Even though Ren tacked on a hooking penalty 30 seconds into the first period, they made up for it with 2 hits and a block with over 21 minutes of play

Tame Game
Low physicality in this game really allowed the teams to skate more and work on their breakouts, with a final score of 4-3 it looked like both teams could have tried to shutdown their opponents a little more than they did but if the game stays close then it's hard to pick a focus. Lethbridge ended up taking 3 penalties this game, 2 of which were for hooking, which just shows that they needed to skate a little bit more, the only hiccup in physical discipline was the call against Hugh Jazz who got picked up a roughing penalty during play in the neutral zone.
