Vienna, 10 November 2019.

While some of our players are still active in the Challenge Cup Finals the preparations for the upcoming S50 IIHF tournament are in full swing. We have called together our players to our training facility in Vienna to start training and preparations.

This IIHF season will be a special tournament for Austria as this will be the final season for some of our players. As much as it hurts to say goodbye, it’s also a beginning for a younger generation to leave their mark in international hockey.

Alex Light
His final tournament for Austria and his final tournament as captain. Veteran Alex Light will be surely missed. After this season he will have played 19 seasons for Team Austria. He leads all Austrians in points throughout these years. Currently he has played 219 games and scored 156 points.

Tigole Bitties
Tigole Bitties, an alternate captain, has played 175 games in 14 seasons so far for Team Austria. He has scored 42 goals and had 83 assists. His presence on the blueline is one that will be surely missed.

Richard Physt
In 10 seasons with Team Austria, Richard Physt has played 121 games and scored a total of 45 points. Richard Physt was often seen as an underrated player, but he had a huge influence on the team and on the locker room. He is hanging up his skates quite early in his career to focus on other things in his life.

With saying goodbye to old players we also welcome some new players in the Austrian roster for this years IIHF tournament.

Emiko Spector
We are happy to announce that goaltender Emiko Spector has recently acquired an Austrian passport and was cleared by the IIHF to play for Austria. Emiko used to play for Japan, but was a healthy scratch for the previous tournament. We are very happy to have Emiko Spector in Team Austria as our future number 1 netminder.

Welcome to the team Emiko Spector.

Thomas Vanice
Thomas Vanice has played 86 games for the Lethbridge Lions in the regular season and had a huge impact on the team in terms of scoring in S50. He scored 13 goals and had 13 assists. After playing two seasons in the SMJHL and for the WJC team of Team DACH, it is time to give him the nod to join us in Austria for the upcoming IIHF tournament.

Welcome to to team Thomas Vanice.

After getting the sentimentel stuff out of the way I proudly present the roster of Team Austria.
