[X2 Media] SixNine's Draft Review
#1

****DOUBLE MEDIA PAYOUT***

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I am your host Akashi SixNine and welcome to the Simulation Hockey League network. Today we will be discussing the actual draft results from this afternoons draft. We will be reviewing the first round. So, buckle up and get ready for a doozy as we go through the first 16 selections of this year’s entry draft. This is part two of the two-part series.

Round One

1. Nicholas Owens
As we projected, Nicholas Owens goes first overall to the Buffalo Stampede. A really good selection for this team, as the try to maintain their high calibre of play in the Simulation Hockey League. Not much else to say here that was not already said in our initiating coverage of the draft. Best of luck to Owens and the Stampede moving forward

2. Alexander Wachter
Continuing our perfect streak, we had Alexander Wachter going to the Texas Renegades, and we were correct again. Wachter will be a phenomenal player for the Renegades as the foundation of them rebuild. A solid right winger that will probably play in the juniors another season before making the jump up to the Renegades team. Again, like Owens there is not much else to say here that was not already said in our mock draft.

3. Abel Skinner
Here we go! This is where our mock draft went wrong, and we see Abel Skinner making a HUGE leap in the first round and going to the Chicago Syndicate. Skinner was an outstanding SMJHL player, and the former first overall selection makes his way into the top 3 in the SHL draft. The Syndicate get a great player here who can easily bolster this team’s offense and be someone that they can continue to build the team around in the future. Great pick for both sides, and happy to see Skinner skyrocket up the draft board.

4. Zlatan Ibrahimović Jr.
Zlatan slides one selection and goes fourth overall to the Winnipeg Jets. Soulja has built some great players in the league during his tenure here with Yuri Boyka and Yuri Boyka Jr. (Both my draftees not a big deal) so you already know I am a little biased in this analysis. Soulja will be a great defenseman for the Jets and will be a cornerstone defenseman for them as they begin them rebuild.

5. Luca Del Vecchio
Just like our mock predictions, Luca Del Vecchio the Italian Stallion goes fifth overall to the West Kendall Platoon. After more analysis conducted with our team, it was clear that Del Vecchio was the successor to Beaujeaux Biscuit and would be taking over the reigns in net once he retired. As well, Zoone has a long history with the Platoon organization, so it would have been weird to see him be drafted somewhere else. He essentially was created as a replacement for Beaujeaux, so great pick for the Platoon as they find their new netminder for the future. We see Del Vecchio playing a few more years in the minors before making the huge jump up to the show.

6. Henrik Lundqvist Jr.
Lundqvist Jr. goes one pick ahead of where we placed him, and to the Texas Renegades. A little iffy pick on our end, as you left a top talent like Kenny Creller on the board there. Nonetheless, Lundqvist will be tested in the SMJHL this season after a lackluster rookie year. If he continues to develop properly in the Raptors system, he will be a great player for the Renegades, but we need to see some evidence of outstanding play from him to determine whether this was the right decision or not.

7. Kenny Creller
The Los Angeles Panthers get a massive steal here at seventh overall, as they pick up a guy who should have gone easily in the top 5. Creller fell one spot as compared to our mock ranking, which may be warranted given his inconsistent history of staying active. If he does stay active, Kenny Creller will be a great winger for the Panthers for years to come, and once he fully develops in the SMJHL he will be putting on a show in the big leagues. Great pick here.

8. Julien Villeneuve
Someone who was not even on our radar, Julien Villeneuve goes 8th overall to the Manhattan Rage. Julien played on the Halifax Raiders team with Abel Skinner, but only managed to score 17 points in his rookie season. His development throughout the season was falling behind the rest of his peers, however, he was able to go in the top 10 of the draft. Julien’s agent Adamantium has a good track record in the league producing former top defenseman Finn Kruger, who was a mainstay in the SHL history books. A little bit of a sleeper picks here, and a pick that caught us all at the SHL network off-guard. We wish the best of luck to both parties in the upcoming season.

9. Ruslan Zaporozhets
Ruslan climbs 2 spots to 9th overall, being the first Scarecrows player to be drafted this year. The North Stars get a great player here who has already been playing lights out in St. Louis, and with more time being given to him over the next few seasons, we can see this kid easily becoming a top player on the North Stars roster, joining the likes of Mika Kandinsky and Mikhail Lokitnonov as the top scoring units.

10. Stracimir Petrovic
Another individual who was not even on our mock draft, the North Stars select Stracimir Petrovic with their 10th pick of the draft. Petrovic was a great centreman from the Vancouver Whalers organization, only being behind Zlatan in rookie scoring on the team. He has a lot of room to improve and will be a great cornerstone piece for the North Stars franchise. We really like this pick for Toronto.

11. Elizabeth Doyle
Wow, so the Buffalo Stampede find their next goaltender in Elizabeth Doyle, climbing two selections from our initial mock draft. While it did not make too much sense in our initial mock to have Doyle go to the Specters with Cain in net, this does. With the Stampede looking for the future, they knew they needed a solid goaltender between the pipes, something they have not had since Jordin FourFour Jr. announced his retirement many seasons ago. Doyle will be a great goalie in net for the team and could break all the goaltending records that are currently in place in Buffalo.

12. Alex Petrenko
Petrenko goes in the exact spot we though he would go, and like we said in our mock draft, Petrenko falling so hard in the draft was a gift for the Pride. With 33 points in his rookie season, Petrenko joins an already loaded San Francisco Pride defenseman depth chart and could crack the roster in just a few seasons. He will most likely return to the SMJHL with the Outlaws for a few more years before making the jump to the big-league team. Good pick here.

13. Mitchell van der Heijden
Our biggest fall of the mock draft so far, Mitchell van der Heijden drops 9 spots to 13th overall and goes to the other expansion team – New Orleans Specters. Blues knows how to build a good player, and we think that the Specters got a steal with this selection here. As a rookie with 14 goals, the sky is the limit for this young player, and he will be a top player in the SHL someday if he continues with his development

14. Al Kayhali
The Hamilton Steelhawks go off the board and select Al Kayhali from the Halifax Raiders of the SMJHL. Kayhali had a decent rookie season, putting up 15 points in just about 15 minutes per game of ice time. He was 5th in rookie scoring on the team but was poor on the defensive side of the puck with a whopping -19 on the year, which could be attributed to poor play by the team overall. This is a little of an iffy pick by the Steelhawks, but only time will tell if this pick pays off at the end of the day.

15. Stan Hanson
Hanson drops one pick from our mock draft to 15th overall, but he joins a Texas Renegades team that has already had a pretty strong draft, joining the likes of Alexander Wachter and Henrik Lundqvist Jr. Hanson will be a great winger on the Renegades team, and this trio will be a force when they all come into their own with the big club. For now, the Renegades future looks strong, as they continue to develop a core pipeline of prospects.

16. Indigo Trevino
After a surprisingly lopsided trade just an hour before the draft, the West Kendall Platoon select Indigo Trevino from the Halifax Raiders. Trevino was close to being in the top 16 for our mock draft, but just slid out of the running. He put up 17 points in ~17 minutes per game of ice time with the Halifax Raiders, and was second in rookie scoring on the team. He has room to grow with an organization that was going through a rebuild and joins a great organization in the West Kendall Platoon.

That concludes our analysis of the first round of the Simulation Hockey League’s 51st entry draft. We congratulate all of the players that were selected so early, and to the ones who did not go in the first round, many of the top players in this league were late round steals, and many of those names in the Hall of Fame were also late round steals, so keep working hard and it will pay off.
Going back to our initial mock draft, here is what happened to the individuals that fell out of the first round.

8. Joakim Ohlund
This is not that big of a surprise to see Ohlund fall out of the first round, he was not very good in the SMJHL and it was a reach to put him at 8th overall going to the Manhattan Rage. Ohlund slid all the way down to pick 25, being picked up by the Toronto North Stars. He joins a strong organization that knows how to develop prospects, which may play into his favor. Nonetheless, this is not much of a risky pick at this point, and we wish both parties the best of luck moving forward.

10. The Stingray That Killed Steve Irwin
He went 17th overall to the Hamilton Steelhawks, joining his former team in what was a reunion meant to happen. Gooney is well known to the organization having played with two prior players here, and Irwin will excel with the Steelhawks system as he is very familiar with the team and the management team and should be a fantastic role player for the team in the years to come.

15. Luciano Vessot
A little surprising to see Vessot drop out of the first round given his track record while building players, however the Stampede get a big steal with the 23rd pick, after trading down from 21 to get him. Vessot adds more talent to this Stampede team who just seem to get better and better through late round drafting led by the man Tomen himself. Vessot will be a great player for the Stampede after a few more years in the SMJHL, and we know that other teams will be kicking themselves for not selecting him.

16. Thicc Cheezy
Thicc Cheezy fell two picks to the Minnesota Chiefs, joining a strong organization in which he can make a big impact in. We see him still going back down to the minors for a few seasons before making the jump, but we know he will have a good time in Minny with the ball king himself.

That concludes our coverage of the S51 SHL Entry Draft. We thank our viewers for watching the broadcast, and, we would like to thank the SHL bank for giving me money. Goodnight to all, and good luck in the upcoming season. : Steelhawks:
