S50 IIHF HOF Ceremony
#1

Hello everyone, and welcome to the second Hall of Fame Ceremony for the IIHF Hall of Fame. My name is Mutedfaith, and I'm your host for tonight.
Congratulations to all nations competing in this years IIHF World Championships, where the medals were picked up by:

Gold:  United Stated of America  Usa
Silver: Germany Germany
Bronze: Canada  Canada

Last year we saw an inaugural class with 7 inductees out of two rounds into the, then brand new, IIHF Hall of Fame. The voting for this year was done over one round, with separate ballots for defenders (including goalies) and forwards. Each of the 8 committee members voted for a maximum of five players on each ballot, and ranked them one through five. Players were awarded points (10, 7, 5, 3, 1) based on their ranking. A minimum of 35 points is required to be inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame.

First, let’s start with the honourable mentions for those who missed the induction by no more than a hair:

Spitfire (D) – 33 points

Wearing the number 16 jersey, Spitfire proved solid in defense for the Irish National Team. His was present on the blue line for five consecutive gold medals between S42 and S46. Spitfire is a member of the triple gold club, but despite being ranked first twice, he missed the Hall by two points.

Jack Durden (F) – 32 points

The USA born playmaking center Jack Durden led the United Kingdom to a gold medal in S41. Picking up 9 goals in the process, he is tied for second place for most goals in a season during the 10 game era. Jack is a member of the triple gold club, but the all-time Renegades points, assist and goals leader fell just short of induction into the Hall of Fame, despite being ranked first twice.

This brings us to the inductees for the S50 IIHF Hall of Fame.

Toivo Kosonen (D) – 38 points
This former SMJHL all star got ranked first by three of the eight committee members. He is a member of the triple gold club, with gold medals on the IIHF World Championships of S30 and S37 and holds second place in the IIHF Most career shots blocked, with 274 blocked shots. And now, he is also a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame.

Jasper Clayton (D) – 37 points
Jasper Clayton won a gold medal on the S41 IIHF World Championship as a defenseman for the United Kingdom. Ranking third in most career shots blocked with 260 blocked shots, and laying down 50 hits in S38 (tying for 5th place in most hits in a season during the 10 game era) he is widely regarded as a solid defender. However, his 5th rank in most career assists with 101 assists shows that he has had a very productive career in the offensive department too. He also has an IIHF award to show off to his friends and teammates, after being named IIHF Top Defenseman in S33 and now he gets inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame as well, being ranked first by 2 of the committee members.

Chester Cunningham (F) – 46 points
With an impressive 4 out of 8 first ranks, this Norwegian right winger won 6 medals with the Norwegian National Team, including the S35 gold medal. He was named IIHF Top Forward twice in his international career, receiving the award in S24 and S29. He is ranked 5th for most career points, with 165 points. The 46 points that got him inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame are a new record, beating the previous record of 40 points by 6.

Nikolaus Scholz (F) – 36 points
Born in Neumünster, Germany this playmaking center was involved in 20 IIHF World Championships. The German National Team claimed 6 medals during these 20 seasons, with gold medals in S30 and S36. His 103 career assists in 229 games played rank him 4th for most career assists. None of the committee members ranked him first, but getting votes from 6 out of 8 of them earns him a spot in the IIHF Hall of Fame anyway.

Maximilian Wächter (F) – 35 points
The Austrian winger was ranked first by only one of the committee members, but was ranked by all but two of them. His 483 hits put him in 5th place for most career hits, and he got a taste of the gold in S33 when he took the top spot in the IIHF World Championship with the Austrian National Team. He cut it very close, but eventually made the 35 points required and is therefore now inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame.

And that was the last of our five inductees. Not quite as much as the seven we saw in the inaugural season, but every single one of them very much deserves his spot in the IIHF Hall of Fame. We congratulate the winners and wish all of those who weren't selected good luck in next years ceremony.

Hey that's pretty cool, Kosonen had some good tournaments with Finland. Also, I never realized he was the quickest to complete the Quad Club.
