Tall Grass Media Prospect Tournament Series presents:
Champions Squeak by Planes
____________

This season's prospect tournament has produced some amazing hockey, with a mixture of very close games and very lopsided ones. While Day 12's 12-1 curbstomping was certainly a notable game, high-octane overtime hockey is something the tournament sorely lacked in the first fifteen games. Fortunately, day 16's game between the Bravo Champions (4-0-0) and the Delta Planes (1-3-0) provided in spades.

First Period

The game began fast and close, as the two teams battled for possession for nearly ten minutes before a shot finally reached the back of the net. The goal was scored by Delta sniper Aakko Makinen with a laser of a wrist shot, assisted by defenseman Zeep Zorp, and gave the Planes momentum that lasted for about two minutes before Bravo fired back with a goal from center Nathanial Burden (assisted by Sven Svenson and Squid Actual). The Champions capitalized on their momentum, scoring another goal just over a minute later to give them a 2-1 lead. This goal came at the hands of Canadian defenseman Jack Kanoff, who sent one top shelf after being fed the puck by Tim Demmer. Bravo was able to hold onto their lead for over three minutes, but Delta made sure that their goal deficit wouldn't survive to see the second period by enlisting another snipe by Aakko Makinen (assisted by Miles Metcalfe and Zeep Zorp) to even the score at 2-2. A few more unsuccessful shots on net from both teams rounded out the period.

Second Period

Both teams seem to have an issue with starting periods strong, as the second period opened up with another scoreless ten minutes. This time the first goal didn't come until nearly eleven minutes had passed, but they were eleven great minutes of spirited hockey, with both teams throwing everything they had at the puck. In the end the Champions won the battle, scoring two unanswered goals four minutes apart (1st: Danny White, assisted Walter II; 2nd: Tim Demmer, assisted Emil Harmaajarvi and Lucas Hellquist) to give themselves a more comfortable 4-2 lead. Not to be outdone, Makinen fired a shot glove side and earned himself a hat trick for the Planes (assisted by Hoople and Metcalfe) with a pretty goal. About one minute later, Metcalfe scored one (assisted by Zorp and Makinen) and evened the score to 4-4 just before the period came to a close.

Third Period

The third period was more of the same, as it took over twelve minutes for the scoring to get going. Yet again the period was decided by two Bravo goals (Collin Brown scored the first and Nathaniel Burden notched his 2nd of the night), this time just 17 seconds apart. The Champions had a chance to run away with it here, but were shut down by the Planes who scored the first of two goals just over a minute later.  This time it was Ryan Hoople that did the honors, assisted by Matthias Birdstrom and Zeep Zorp. Just as before, Delta evened the score with less than four minutes remaining via a goal by Reid Sutherland, assisted by Magnus Liljestrom. Both teams fought to gain the upper hand, but the clock expired before they had a chance to and the game was sent to overtime.

Overtime

It was a short but sweet overtime, with Bravo winning the opening face-off and controlling the puck until Nate Telker notched the game-winning goal not even a minute in, assisted by Sven Svenson and Walter II.

Summary

Although this was a great match-up and a hard-fought game by both teams, once the second period hit the Planes were fighting to stay alive. Their valiant effort gave us some great hockey, and the first 10-12 minutes of every period were some of the most exciting seen in the tournament. However, the Champions' relentless hustle paid off with a very quick overtime win.

Individual effort was on full display for the losing Delta Planes, who earned all 3 stars of the night in spite of their overtime loss. Aakko Makinen took the 1st star of the night with his hat trick and one assist. Miles Metcalfe was the natural choice for 2nd star with his goal and two assists, and Ryan Hooples' 1g/1a performance rightfully earned him the 3rd star. The winning Champions had nobody to thank more than their goalie, Not Nictox, for the win. Stopping 40 of 46 shots with a sv% of .870, Nictox did good work shutting down the Planes' stars, giving the Bravo offense enough breathing room to eke out the win. Nathaniel Burden was their highest-producing skater with his two goals.

Final score: 8-7 Champions.

Prospect Tournament Day 5
Bravo Champions VS Foxtrot Trottyfoxes

Final Score: Champions 9, Trottyfoxes 3

Big Second period by Champions lifts team to 1-0 start in tournament

The prospect tournament started out with a bang for the Bravo champions as they delivered a dominating performance over the Trottyfoxes. The game started out with a flurry of scoring, with Collin Brown scoring just 19 seconds after puck drop for the Champions. The Trottyfoxes would respond just 26 seconds later with a goal from Ale Beru to tie the game. The champions would take the lead back yet again a mere 28 seconds later with a goal from Nate Telker at 1:13. The Bravo champions would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.

The second period would prove to be a big one for the Champions as they scored 4 unanswered goals in the first half of the period to take a 6-1 lead, with goals coming from Nate Telker with 2 more, Nathaniel Burden, and Danny White. Telker completed his hat trick at 10:26 in the 3rd. The Trottyfoxes would respond with a couple goals from Scott Hamilton and Luke Niemi to cut the lead to 3 goals, but they ultimately ran out of juice and could not keep up with the high-powered Champions offense. The Champions would go on to tack on 3 more goals to add salt to the wound before the finish of the game. Goal scorers include Walter II, Tim Demmer, and Danny white with his second goal on the day. The Trottyfoxes did manage to outshoot the champions 45-36, but they could not find the back of the net often enough.

It was a great effort by Champions goalie Not Nictox, making 42-45 saves, good enough for a .933 save %. A disappointing outing from Trottyfoxes starting goalie Jerry Huuveri, who only managed to stop 20-26 shots for a .769 save % before being pulled in the second period. Backup goalie Sam Lowery would do little to stop the bleeding, only saving 7-10 shots for a .700 Save %.

Three Stars of the game:
1) Danny White (2G 1A 3Pts)
2) Nate Telker (3G 3Pts)
3) Walter II (1G 1A 2Pts)

Day 10 of Prospect Showcase: Alpha Rococos vs. Delta Planes - Planes can't quite achieve takeoff
By Jan Parker Peters
For Superprospects

780 words as per site

Having dropped their first game of the showcase versus the Charlie Angels, the Delta Planes were looking to come back out with a statement game. They came close, but finally fell to the Rococos 8-7 and unable to even the score as the game came to a close.

First Period Summary:
The Alpha Rococos opened the scoring 2:30 into the period on a net-front tip-in by Clean Andrek Kostitsyn, assisted by Eric Hudson and Yompy Stearf who directed a point shot into traffic. The Delta Planes' first line then responded 2:41 later with a goal of their own. Aakko Makinen scored his first goal of the tournament at 5:11, assisted by the forecheck combo of Miles Metcalfe and Ryan Hoople. A couple of minutes later, the game was brought to a halt by a hotly contested goal by Antti Antinen that went to video review - the goal was later overturned due to the puck being kicked in by Antinen, whose protests went unheard by the officials.

The video review seemed to swing the momentum to the Planes' side as the first line of Metcalfe, Makinen and Hoople went to work once again, with Metcalfe scoring his first goal of the tournament at 10:16 off a big rebound created by Makinen's shot. Young Finnish sniper Aakko Makinen wasn't to be outdone either as he scored once more at 13:47 off a set play from the point as the puck went backdoor.

However, the Alpha Rococos found their footing and responded shortly thereafter with two goals from countryman Antti Antinen at 14:47 and 16:00 respectively.

An exciting first period with a total of six goals scored, and explosively exciting hockey at both ends.

Second Period Summary:
This period was all Rococos as they came out swinging, directing a total of 11 shots on net. The first goal didn't come until 9:32 of the second, when Kostitsyn beat A Jobin clean from the slot on a slapshot that was screened in front. Antti Antinen had his first hat trick of the tournament as the prolific goal scorer made it 5-3 Rococos just over a minute later at 10:33, and chased the besieged Jobin out of the crease. Zach Attack entered as the replacement goalie for the Planes and was promptly beaten by Jimmy Wagner who faked out the goalie before tucking the puck in gently at 12:37.

The Delta Planes didn't really register a shot on net until the last five minutes of the period, and Salomon Frosty wired home a one-timer pass from Valentin Kalashnikov at 17:24 of the second period, which would be the Planes' only goal of the period, putting them down 4-6.

The Delta Planes had several holes put in their wing by the Rococos, and didn't have much of an answer back

Third Period Summary:
A fired up Delta Planes squad came flying out of the dressing room, creating chances almost immediately and putting John Curtis to the test. A broken play would result in a puck that caromed off Salomon Frosty's skate into the back of the net at 8:44, and a video review later determined the goal to be good with no kicking motion determined to be present. Alpha Rococo's Kostitsyn would respond with a goal to complete his hattrick, and Miles Metcalfe answered back for the Delta Planes with a slick backhand move. Antti Antinen also completed his hattrick at 11:55 of the third period, making it two Rococo players with hattricks in the game and putting the Planes down by two goals.

With the goalie pulled, the Delta Planes scored at 19:30 to bring them back within one, with Wanesly scoring a goal from his knees after being cross-checked to the ice in the crease. However, the last thirty seconds passed without another goal as the Delta Planes directed everything they had on net, only to be denied by Curtis.

Great last-gasp scoring from the Planes but ultimately failing to even the game.

Final Thoughts:
This was a high-scoring, fast paced game with slick goals from either side, but the Planes defense failed to shut down the high-scoring Rococo squad and gave up too many goals for their players to claw back. A valiant effort for the Delta Planes that eventually came up on short on the runway.

Final Score:
Rococos 8 - Planes 7

Day 21
Foxtrot Trottyfoxes (2) vs Alpha Rococos (6)
Hello and welcome to sunny Quebec City, where it is a balmy 5 below. I'm Joe Frazier and I'm here with you once again to recap this afternoons action in the 52nd Annual SMJHL Prospect Tournament. You know, I say this every year, but this tournament is one of my favorite events of the year. To see these young men and women playing at the highest levels while they prepare for their Junior draft. We've had some great action here the last 20 days and today was no different! Let's jump into it shall we?

The first period was a doozy, with 7 total goals scored. Alpha broke the ice at 2:56 with a wicked wrister from Antti Antinen. Foxtrot answered and tied it up on a nice deflection from Scott Hamilton. Alpha started to run away with the game a bit, with 3 unanswered goals in about a 3 minute span. Pooks Halloway at 9:23, Thierry Parent at 10:35 and then Shame Rinne at 12:18.

Foxtrot took their timeout at this point to regroup and catch their breath. They also swapped goalies, pulling out Sam Lowery and putting in Jerry Huuveri. Lowery left the game with 4 goals allowed in 12:18, a GAA of 19.5.  Things started to look up for Foxtrot when Scott Hamilton struck again at 13:50 with a booming slapper that I don't think Jason Vorhees ever saw. He certainly didn't react.  But, 8 seconds later, right off the faceoff Alpha slipped one past Huuveri. Beautiful tic-tac-toe play, Vladimir Pokozov to Thierry Parent back to Pokozov.

Things got chippy at this point, a good bit of pushing and shoving but surprisingly no penalties called. The zebras got it sorted out and cooler heads prevailed.

The second period started with a bang 30 seconds in as Eric Hudson launched a slap shot past Huuveri on a beautiful point to point feed from Mike Dugan. It got quiet after that as both teams finally buckled down on defense and that's the last of the scoring. The 6-2 score would hold out till the end of the game.

Foxtrot got a little unlucky in the third period as they had 3 shots ring off the post. Goalies best friend. As they say here in Quebec, C'est la vie! A couple more Foxtrot goals would have made the game quite interesting.

Let's take a look at the Tim Hortons Three Stars of the Game.
Today's Third Star, with a goal and an assist, Alpha Defenseman Thierry Parent!
Today's Second Star, with a goal and an assist, Alpha Defenseman Antti Antinen!
And, Today's First Star, with a goal and two assists, Vladimir Pokozov!

Jason Vorehees picks up the win with 2 goals allowed on 33 shots, Sam Lowery takes the loss with 4 goals allowed on 18 shots. Jerry Huuveri played pretty well in relief, giving up 2 goals on 26 shots. Thierry Parent got the game winning goal, his first of the tournament.

The win improves Alpha to 4-2 on the tournament while the loss drops Foxtrot to 3-5. These two teams will meet again in 2 nights for a rematch, but first tomorrow's match up we have Charlies Angels vs the Delta Planes, so make sure to tune in for that.

That'll do it for tonight from Quebec City, we'll see ya tomorrow for more SMJHL Prospect Hockey! Good night!

Delta Planes vs Foxtrot Trottyfoxes
Day 14 of the Prospect Tourney

It’s day 14th of the prospect tournament and we’ve seen great flashes of future talent while other players are trying to find their footing. Delta Planes are coming into this game 0-2-0, trying to find their first win of the tournament and as well as many more in the next four days they play, they also are starting a back-to-back with the Foxtrot Trottyfoxes. Foxtrot Trottyfoxes come with a record of 2-3-0 as they hope to snag a win tonight and tomorrow before their long break.

FIRST PERIOD

It was a quiet game in the half of the first period, not many teams getting much opportunity until a bad line change from the Delta Planes leads to a two-on-one opportunity for the Foxtrot Trottyfoxes with a brilliant quick saucer pass from goaltender Sam Lowery, to forward, Luke Niemi who then passes to the defenseman jumping on the rush, Brad Smith, who hammers the puck into the net, with 11:42 into the game for his second of the tourney. Delta Planes however would not give up as they get on the board from a beautiful tic-tac-goal scored by Salomon Frosty, his fourth of the tourney assisted by Ethan Duncan and Ragnar Skallagrimsson at 16:32 into the first period. However the Foxtrot Trottyfoxes wouldn’t let that go easily with 1:05 minutes and seconds later, they get a nice cycle going on and from the point Ravi Gupta scores his first of the tournament, assisted by Ferda Shoresie from up the boards and Patric Twist who dumped the puck deep to start the whole thing. Foxtrot Trottyfoxes go up 2-1 in the first.

SECOND PERIOD

The second period was a bit more up to tempo with both teams battling hard for possession and crashing the net for rebounds. We wouldn’t have a goal until 14:42 minutes into the game by a goal scored by Alex Reyer, his first of the tournament from an amazing IQ pass from Casper Harnstrom, cross-crease for an easy goal, but the behind the net pass from Scott Hamilton made it all so much better. Delta Planes respond quickly, within 9 seconds they cut the lead in half by a quick short snipe from Miles Metcalfe, his third of the tourney from a pass by Aakko Makinen and another pass by Ryan Hoople in the neutral zone after the faceoff. 3:31 minutes and seconds later, the line that started the scoring first in the second period score again and this time it’s by Casper Harnstrom, his first of the tourney from the slot with the pass by Scott Hamilton and from that the pass from the point by Alex Reyer to make it 4-2. The score would remain the same heading into the third period.

THIRD PERIOD

The Foxtrot Trottyfoxes command the start of the third period with 3 goals in the first half of the third. Brad Smith, the defenseman scores with a slapper from the point, his third of the tourney and his second tonight, from a sharp pass by Jonathan Hunt who set him up, 3:32 into the third. 55 seconds later, Scott Hamilton scores on the rush, his second of the tourney and his third point tonight with the pass by Lligma Broomstick to make it 6-2. 2:54 minutes and seconds later, Brad Smith dangles by the defenders for a sweet crisp bar-down hat-trick goal, to make it 7-3 with the pass from the boards by Ferda Shoresie. Delta Planes wouldn’t be able to recover but would put one more goal by Tad McMinn, his first of the season tipped in, the initial shot by Reid Sutherland and pass to him by Valentin Kalashnikov. The final score is Foxtrot Trottyfoxes 7-3 to Delta Planes. These two teams will face again tomorrow night, great effort by the Foxtrot Trottyfoxes and Delta Planes continue their struggles finding their game. Foxtrot Trottyfoxes goaltender, Sam Lowery made 36 saves out of 39 and an assist for the win against Delta Planes goaltender, A Jobin with 40 saves on 47 shots.

Final Score
(FT 7-3 DP)

1# Star - Brad Smith (FT, 3 goals)
2# Star - Scott Hamilton (FT, 1 goal and 2 assists)
3# Star - Alex Reyer (FT, 1 goal and 1 assist)

Day 25 Prospect Tournament – Bravo Champions (10) def. Echo Ofthevoids (8)

Tournament exhaustion plagued both teams’ defensive play on day 25 resulting in a high scoring affair between the Bravo Champions and Echo Ofthevoids. Squid Actual (Burden, Svenson) opened the scoring with a controversial rebound goal that went to video review for possible goalie interference. The goal was ultimately confirmed after a lengthy review, resulting in a short delay as fights and a minor riot broke out in the crowd (18 arrests and 2 casualties). Veikko Vatippa (Hellqist) scored his second of the tournament just under 2 minutes later on a smooth wrist shot. After a flurry of activity by the Echo Ofthevoids, Danny White (Walter II) broke free on a breakaway and made no mistake of finishing with a beautiful deke after a slick stretch pass Walter II. Echo Ofthevoids heavy pressure continued, culminating with a blast of slapshot by Miro Slapskinnen (Cuddles, Grygera). Bravo Champions immediately responded with a beautiful tic tac passing play that left a wide-open Sven Svenson (Ubetcha, Burden) all alone with a gaping net. Walter II (White) and Danny White continued to demonstrate their sublime chemistry in the dying minute of the 1st period with a back and forth passing play goal for Walter on a 2 on 1 chance. The period ended with Bravo Champions holding a commanding 5-1 lead over Echo Ofthevoids.

Echo Ofthevoids came out strong after the break and their hard work paid off with Shlapp Shaht (Outlaw, Yskarov) finding the back of the net on a fluttering slap shot that went off a defensemen’s midsection. The Bravo Champions’ Jack Kanoff (Telker, MacGregor) showed his knack for scoring 3 minutes later with a five-hole goal from the slot. The goal ended Echo Ofthevoids’ Ryan Aaron’s night, who finished with 21 saves on 27 shots. The goaltending change energized Echo Ofthevoids and Slapskinnen (Wartooth, Grygera) and Shaht (Khristorozhdestvensk, Yskarov) both scored their second of the night within a minute and half of each other. Danny White (Walter II) responded only 30 seconds later in the pairs third combined goal of the night. Zoltan Topalo (Grygero, Slapskinnen) made an out-of-this world play for his first of the tournament to pull Echo Ofthevoids within two. Bravo Champions’ Jack Kanoff (Burden) (Svenson, Burden) was hungry for more goals and scored back-to-back one-timer blasts to complete the hat trick on great passing plays from Burden and Svenson. At the end of the period, Jonathan Blair (Steen, Ohira) banged one home on a rebound in the crease. The second period ended with Bravo Champions holding a 9-6 lead over Echo Ofthevoids.

The first half of the third period showed the fatigue of these young players, with both teams opting to grind out a dump and chase style defensive scheme. Echo Ofthevoid carried the play after the 10-minute mark, showing grit and desperation in making plays to try to close the gap. Gregory Stiemsa (Yskarov, Outlaw) made it a two-goal game on a nice dish to the middle from Yskarov. Tomas Grygera (Slapskinnen, Price) put even more pressure on the Bravo Champions a minute later on a redirection from a hard slap pass from Slapskinnen. However, the Bravo Champions were not willing to let this one slip away. Budding Swedish star Sven Svenson (Burden, Kuzel) cemented the lead with his second of the night and possibly the goal of the tournament. After a great breakout pass from Burden, Svenson dangled past two Echo Ofthevoids defensemen on a toe drag and went backhand forehand to find the twine in tight space. Svenson’s efforts earned him the first star of the night. Burden’s 5 assist night was good for the second star and Danny White’s 2 goal 1 assist performance curiously was good for third star, beating out Jack Kanoff’s hat trick performance. Allen Washington got the win for the Bravo Champions making 33 saves on 41 shots.

Charlie Angels close out final day of Prospect Tournament with massive victory over Alpha Rococos

It might have been a middling tournament for the Charlie Angels rookie team, finishing the 10-game tournament with a middling 5-5 record, but they went out with a bang, winning 10-4 over the first-place Alpha Rococos team that included two projected first-round picks for the upcoming SMJHL draft in Jimmy Wagner and Axel Meszaros. The game got off to a very fast start, as on the first play of the game, Angels winger Steve Harrington entered the zone, dropped the puck back for Angels defenseman Samuel Mains, and went to the front of the net. Mains took a wrist shot that looked to be going just over the net before deflecting into the goal. The Rococos protested, however, and video review showed that the puck had bounced off centre Rocco Berni's stick and gone in, which invalidated the early score. The quick-strike capabilities of this band of rookies proved to be too much, however, and two minutes later, Chris Cerullo came out from behind the Alpha net and found defenseman Erben Kasius with a quick pass. Kasius slammed the shot home to open the scoring for the Charlies. From there, the floodgates were opened, as right winger Viktor Erlingsson added the second goal of the game two minutes later. After a long period hemmed in the Rococos zone midway through the first period, Kasius got the puck at the blueline and fired it through traffic and into the net to make the game 3-0. Despite a second review initiated by an irate Rococos coach who believed that goalie Jason Voorhees had been bumped by Angels winger Brandon Burnett, the goal stood. The energized Angels then got two goals in 39 seconds from their second-leading scorer Paddy Kane O'Reilly II, chasing Voorhees from the net after just 13:25 and five goals. Backup John Curtis came in, and the Rococos seemed to get some life from this as they broke the shutout of Angels goalie Skyler Stevens, who got the start in this final game, on a goal by Love Beck. Despite the goal, the Angels went into the locker room after the first period pumped by a four-goal lead.

The second period was more of the same as the Charlie Angels came out flying to start the period. Three minutes into the period, Steve Harrington added his fifth goal of the tournament on a net-front pass from Erlingsson, and five minutes later, the unexpected happened. Rococos defenseman Thierry Parent had the puck at centre ice and went to shoot the puck into the zone. However, the puck hit the stanchion of the glass and landed on the stick of Viktor Erlingsson. The Angels had a three-on-one the other way with Harrington and Kasius trailing. Two passes later, the puck was in the net and hats were flying as Erben Kasius completed the rare hat trick from a defenseman. Kevin Trabs added on to the rout two minutes later with a goal to make the score 8-1 for Charlie Angels only halfway through the game. With the game more than out of hand, the rest of the period proceeded largely without event.

The beginning of the third period provided possibly the strangest goal of the tournament. With the score 8-1, the Angels had their fourth line out on the ice to start the period. Chris Cerullo won the faceoff and the puck was tipped back to defenseman Julian Kiveski. The rearguard wound up and took a long, knuckling slapshot from the red line that dropped about two feet before sneaking in under the glove of John Curtis. After this unlikely goal, Curtis was pulled in favour of Voorhees returning to the net, who mercifully finished the game. The Rococos would add goals from Thierry Parent, the enigmatic (Clean) Andrei Kostitsyn, and Love Beck's second goal of the game, while the Angels fourth line got one more goal on a rebound down low by Dusty Bender. With an emphatic 10-4 win to close out the tournament, the three stars were swept by the Charlie Angels, as Viktor Erlingsson and Steve Harrington, who each got three points in the game's first half before mostly being pulled in garbage time, and Erben Kasius with his hat trick, got the honours.

Echo Ofthevoids (9) Skate Circles Around Charlie Angels(4)

Period 1
The game was off to a hot start minutes into the first period with Echo’s Stiemsma ripping a quick wrister past the glove of Joe Simpson. Stiemsma quickly followed up the first score of the game by netting another score off a brilliant pass by Shaht on a 2-on-1 through the five-hole at the 8 minute mark.  Echo’s Ethan Price began dog pile and quickly brought the score to 3-0 only 49 seconds later for his third goal of the tournament. Despite the momentum swing, the Angels did not give up, battling back as Vince Chalut answered with two long-range goals from from the blue line under a minute apart, bringing the score to 3-2 to close out the first.

Period 2
If you thought the first period of action was exciting, the second period brought a flurry of energy and goalscoring that would decide the game, with a total of 7 goals scored in the 20 minute period. To start the action, the scoring gap was widened by Echo forwards Grygera and Teller leading off by lighting the lamp with goals a mere 10 seconds apart! These blistering snipes ended the night for struggling Angels net minder Joe Simpson. The goaltender Simpson ended the night with 18 saves on 25 shots and a .783 GAA in just over a full period of action. Despite Simpson’s reprieval, the scoring continued with Echo’s Shaht netting his third goal of the tournament with a heavy slapp from the right circle. Dusty Bender then added his fourth of the tournament on a breakaway thanks to a long pass on point by WIllaim Hartmann. The game was not out of reach yet, as Erben Kasius grinded to bring the Angels within two goals, before Echo’s Henrik Steen found the back of the net on a bang bang play from Ohira and Blair to drop the hammer on the penultimate goal of the second. To “cap” off the period, Gregory Steimsma was pelted by Hats from the stands as he recorded his first hat trick of his SMJHL career. The goal was assisted by Shlapp Shaht who was the primary assister on each of Stiemsma’s four goals this evening.

Period 3
Following the barrage of goals in the second, the third period was quiet, with a fourth goal scored by Stiemsma, and another assist by - you guessed it - Shlapp Shaht, who finished the game with four total.

Echo Ofthevoids goaltender Frans Eller recorded 39 saves on a total of 43 shots, finishing with  .907 GAA for his second win in three games.

First Star - (EO) Gregory Stiemsma with 4 goals
Second Star - (EO) Shlapp Shaht with 1 goal and 4 assists
Third Star -  Mirco Yskarov 2 assists?

Prospect Showcase Day 24
Another Wagner Hat Trick lifts Alpha over Delta to Extend Win Streak to 6
Delta Planes (3-3-1) vs Alpha Rococos (5-2-0)

Day 24 of the Prospect Showcase gave us a matchup against two teams looking to keep their momentum rolling after slow starts to the tournament. The Alpha Rococos came into the game boasting a 5 game win streak, after their 0-2 start. While the Planes looked to extend their 4 game point streak, which they've been carrying since dropping their first 3 games of the showcase.

First Period

The scoring was kicked off when Jimmy Wagner was able to deflect an Eric Hudson shot from the point through the legs of the Delta netminder, Zach Attack. Not 2 minutes later was Shane Rinne able to stuff the puck past Attack, after the goaltender gave up a juicy rebound off of a Vladimir Pokozov shot. Later in the period, a Rococos defensive breakdown gave Zeep Zorp the room to thread an outlet pass to Aakko Makinen, who found Ryan Hoople on the ensuing 2 on 1 to get the Planes on the board. However, Alpha wouldn't take long to answer when Rinne setup Pokozov within the last minute of the period, who rifled a one-timer past Attack to give the Rococos a 3-1 lead going into the second period.

Second Period
The 2nd period brought an explosion of offense, and not much defense at all. Axel Meszaros helped Alpha extend their lead to 6-1 early in the 2nd, with a goal and 2 assists in the first 10 minutes. Paul Atredies put in the first goal on a tic-tac-toe play from Love Beck and Meszaros. Shortly later, Thierry Parent found Meszaros with an outlet pass, which led to a breakaway goal. A couple minutes after that, Meszaros stripped Delta's Hoople of the puck and found Wagner for his second of the night. Following Wagner's second, the Delta coach decided he had seen enough of Zach Attack, and replaced him with A Jobin 8:55 into the 2nd. The Planes, perhaps rejuvenated by the goaltender change, were quick to try to close the gap when Ethan Duncan potted his first goal of the tournament, and less than a minute later Hoople was able to slide one past the Alpha netminder, Jason Voorhees, to close the gap to 3. A few minutes later, Wagner was able to complete his hat trick with a dazzling move through the Delta defense. Shortly after they finished clearing the hats from the ice, the Planes' Aakko Makinen was able to get his 10th goal of the tournament of a nice feed from Valentin Kalashnikov. However, the Rococos weren't satisfied with a 3 goal lead so Rinne found Pokozov again within the final minute of the 2nd to go into the 3rd up 8-4.

Third Period
The final period was pretty tame compared to the 2nd. Beck found himself on the receiving end of a Lucas Leclerc feed to give the Rococos a five goal lead at the 7:11 mark. The Planes then tried to mount a comeback when Aakko Makinen got his second goal of the game after Zorp setup a 2 man breakaway with another beautiful outlet pass. Reid Sutherland then got on the board 20 seconds later when his shot from the slot squeaked through Voorhees legs to bring Delta within three. But that was about all they could muster as the Rococos tightened up their defense for the scoreless final 8 minutes of gameplay. Alpha's Andrei Kostitsyn, who is undoubtedly clean, was held scoreless.

Final Score:
Alpha Rococos 9 (6-2-0)
Delta Planes 6 (3-4-1)
Three Stars:
1. Jimmy Wagner (Alpha) - 3g
2. Vladimir Pokozov (Alpha) - 2g, 2a
3. Axel Meszaros (Alpha) - 1g, 3a

Echoes Hold Off Metcalfe in Five Three Victory
The Echoes Ofthevoid met the Delta Planes on Tuesday's Prospect Tournament action. Both teams struggled in their start to the prospect tournament, making this game a possible turning point for either Echo or Delta. In spite of their struggles, both teams have had promising offensive production, with the Planes featuring Makinen, Metcalfe, Hoople and the Echoes primarily producing from Ethan Price and Slap Shaht.
The Echoes came out strong in the first period as the game immediately shifted into their offensive zone. They were rewarded early (1:03) as Tomas Grygera wristed it high blocker after the puck cycled to him from Zoltan Topalo and Martin Nemo. The Delta Planes managed to rally but Ryan Aaron held strong as the period ended with the Planes scoreless and Gregory Stiemsma taking a late point shot to put the Echoes up 2-0.
The Delta Planes came out in the second with a statement as Miles Metcalfe scored his first just 14 seconds into the 2nd period (2-1). The rest of the period, however, was all Echoes as they produced 2 goals from  Mirco Yskarov (at 4:03 and 15:58) and 1 from Zoltan Topalo (at 15:28). Zoltan, who has been accused of running a cult in the woods of California, received mixed reaction from the crowd when he managed to slap one in from the blue line to finish the period 5 - 1.

The Delta Planes came out in the third period with a sense of desperation as the period's shots were 7 to 1 Delta just 3 minutes into the first period. Miles Metcalfe one-timed one in on that rally at 2:57 to bring the Planes to within 3. 3 minutes later, Metcalfe completed the hatrick after completely undressing Echoes' goalie Ryan Aaron on a breakaway. The Echoes, after seeing their 4 goal lead shrink to 2, immediately called a timeout. Whatever the Echoes' coach told the players during that huddle worked, as the rest of the game went without incident, and the game finished 5-3.
The three stars of the game were
1 - Mirco Yskarov (Echo)
2 - Miles Metcalfe (Delta)
3 - Gregory Stiemsma (Echo)

Day 19 showcased an exciting matchup between the 2-3 Echo Ofthevoids and the 5-1 Bravo Champions. Coming into the day, Echo found themselves in 5th place in the tournament in points percentage, but a win against the top-heavy Champions would move them up to a tie for second place. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Champions were looking to continue their dominance as the top seed and favorites to win the tournament. The key to the game for Bravo revolved around getting the puck to their top four scorers (White, Walter II, Kanoff, and Svenson), all of whom would be the highest scorer on 3 of the remaining 5 teams in the tournament, while Echo would be focused on maintaining possession through physical play and faceoff wins, the only two metrics in which they outperform Bravo.

The first period was full of action the second the puck dropped, with Mohammed Cuddles showing off his slick stick handling in close to give Echo the 1-0 lead four and a half minutes in. Just under two minutes later, Martin Nemo and Tomas Grygera set up Ethan Price to make it 2-0, which was just the start of the exceptional nights that the latter two would go on to have. Following suit, the Champions scored 2 goals in under a minute themselves, with Walter II and Danny White each scoring and picking up an assist as well, to tie the game at 2. The first period ended with a bang, with three goals being scored in minute. Price and Svenson both picked up their second goal, while Shlapp Shaht lived up to his name, giving the Ofthevoids a 4-3 lead with a cannon of a slap shot from Vladimir Khristorozhdestvensk’s second helper of the game.

The second period saw more back and forth action, starting with Mattias Teller giving Echo a 5-3 lead. Bravo came storming back with two goals of their own, with Danny White picking up his second of the night, and Tim Demmer finishing a nice passing play set up by Veikko Vatipaa and Bradley Barkov. With the game tied at 5, Ethan Price picked up his hat trick goal as well as a fourth, while Tomas Grygera picked up the ‘Rocket League’ playmaker badge with assists on both goals for his third of the night. Both goals were set up with great neutral zone passing from long-time Finnish teammates Jukka Timonen and Miro Slapskinnenen respectively, each picking up a secondary assist. With his team up 7-5 and Bravo making a goalie change, Echo’s coach made the questionable choice to abandon the offense and try to close out the game by playing the trap, only generating 7 shots on goal for the rest of the game.

The defensively focused plan backfired, with Squid Actual and Svenson both scoring in the third period to tie the game at 7, with Bradly Barkov picking up a playmaking badge of his own with an assist on both goals. With all the momentum going to Bravo and a severe lack of offense being generated for Echo, overtime looked to be a sure thing. But with two minutes left in the 3rd period, Mohammad Cuddles ended the game the same way he started it, by burying a shot after deking by a defender, to give the final score of 8-7 Echo. Despite blowing four different leads, including three 2 goal leads, Echo was able to hang on to improve to 3-3, and give the top-ranked Bravo their second loss in a row.

Acute Attack from the Delta Planes Neutralizes Charlie’s Angels.
Day 22 Charlie Angels (5) vs Delta Planes (7)
Coming off only their second win of the tournament, the Delta Planes were looking to exact revenge on the Charlie Angels for their 7-9 defeat earlier in the tournament. The Planes top line would prove too much to handle for the Angels defence in a game that was much more one-sided than the final score indicated.
6 to 7 game pts st. AK
1st Period:
Wayne Ontariaboi opened the scoring four minutes into the game with a tap in goal off of Magnus Liljetstrom. Aakko Makinen picked up a secondary assist, extending his points streak to all seven games of the tournament. The Angels Steve Harrington tied things up with three minutes left in the period, but ten seconds later Ryan Hoople of the Planes gave Delta the edge with a rocket from the top of the faceoff dot for his 8th goal of the tournament.
2nd Period:
The second period opened with a bang as Makinen started the scoring eight seconds after the puck drop. Bentley Boogie responded less than two minutes later to bring the Angels back to within one. Wayne Ontariaboi’s second goal of the game started a flurry of activity in the middle of the second. Four goals were scored in the span of two minutes, with Jacob Rizzo potting his eleventh of the tournament 1:15 after Ontarioboi, Miles Metcalfe responding eight seconds later, and Hoople adding his second of the game 40 seconds after Metcalfe to open up the lead to 6-3 for the Planes.
3rd Period:
The third period was much less eventful than the second, with a pair of Angels scoring their second goals of the game. Rizzo 24 seconds into the period, and Harrington just shy of nine minutes in. Hoople completed his hat trick 30 seconds after Rizzo scored his second. After Harrington’s goal, the Planes defence tightened up and Delta goalie Zach Attack closed the door, sealing a 7-5 win and revenge for the Planes.
Summary:
The three stars of the game were the Planes top line. 1 – Ryan Hoople (3G,1A) 2 – Aakko Makinen (1G,4A) and Miles Metcalfe (1G,2A). Honourable mentions who also played well were Wayne Ontariaboi (2G,1A), Steve Harrington (2G) and Jacob Rizzo (2G). Makinen added the 5 points to his already impressive tournament. He finished the prospect showcase leading the tournament with 12-20-32.

Day 12 Recap: Charlie Angels vs Bravo Champions

The 12th day of the Prospect tournament saw both a lull in the Charlie Angels defensive abilities and a surge in the Bravo Champions scoring capabilities. Erben Kasius put one on the board early for Charlie Angels, but that was all we would see from their offense today. Nate Telker scored the first goal for the Bravo Champions at just over 8 minutes into the 1st period. The Bravo Champions would put two more in the net by the end of the period, including one more for Telker.
The 2nd period saw the Angels hold off the Champions for a mere three minutes before Chet Ubetcha brought the Bravo Champions score total up to four. Nate Telker would score his third of the night a few minutes later. A well deserved hat trick for the young prospect. The Bravo Champions would score three more before the end of the 2nd period to bring the score up to 8-1.
The 3rd period was much the same as the first two; the Charlie Angels defense constantly out of position and slow to get back on the rush. Jack Kanoff scored his second goal of the night while Squid Actual Sven Svenson, and Nathanial Burden scored their first and only goals of the night. By the end of the game, the Charlie Angels had gone through two different goals, the starter, Joe Simpson, being pulled out only 15 minutes into the game. Not Nictox had 40 saves for the Bravo Champions with a save percentage of 0.976. The three stars of the game were Nate Telker, Jack Kanoff, and Not Nictox. The Charlie Angels are reportedly reworking their defensive strategies after this disaster of a game. Be sure to check back in tomorrow for day 13 when the Charlie Angels play the Foxtrot Trotty Foxes.

Day 9 Recap

Champions dominate Foxes fast and early
Jack Kanoff and Tomass Veinbergs traded hat tricks but the former’s team was far superior.

For one of the earlier games in the prospect tournament, the goals came early with 8 being scored in the 1st period, 7 of which came from the Bravo Champions. Things were basically sealed when Jack Kanoff had completed his hattrick by 16:25 into the 1st period putting the Champions up 5-1. The game-winner would come from the 2nd star of the game, Walter II who finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists. Danny White was another Bravo player would also impress the crowd and scouts with a 2 goal and 2 assist performance, standing out amongst his peers in this high scoring game.

Neither teams’ defense appeared ready at the start and end of any of the periods with 12 of the 17 goals coming in during the first or last 5 minutes of the period. The Bravo Champions dominating majority of the game, also took advantage of this lapse outscoring their opponents 9-4 in the run-and-gun portions of the period. Overall the refs did not have much to do other than blow the whistle to start the game each the many goals as they ended up not calling a single penalty all game.

With that being said both goaltenders for the Foxtrotters did not fare well with Sam Lowery only showing a measly .200 save percentage in 5 minutes and 26 seconds of work. Jerry Huuveri had to carry the brunt of the work as well as rest of the net cleanup duties allowing 8 goals on 40 shots in the remaining 54:34. When asked about his and his teammates performance, Huuveri could only stare out aimlessly without much soul left in his eyes. The opposition on the other end, Not Nictox continued to a clean 3-0-0 record after this bout.

Three Stars:

1 - Jack Kanoff, Bravo (3g, 2a)
2 - Walter II, Bravo (2g, 2a)
3 - Danny White, Bravo (2g, 2a)
