S52 SMJHL PT 2 - Player Progression
#31

Chris de Siren

So far right now with my development I'm focusing on my fundamentals. I've invested a lot of time into working on my Scoring and Passing as well as my Defensive Awareness. Being on the third line currently puts a little more emphasis on the defensive side since our line is more focused on that than our top two lines.  All that being said my goal is still to produce enough effective scoring to help our line become just as quality as our top two. The best way forward in my opinion is to continue to work on the fundamentals (strength, skating, passing, defense) to enhance the scoring capabilities that I've worked on, then to finally move into higher territory for Scoring and Passing.

With that plan in mind I would, at 350 TPE, put the following stats together to round out my player development:

CK = Checking: 40
FG = Fighting: 25
DI = Discipline: 62
SK = Skating: 70
ST = Strength: 65
EN = Endurance: 60
DU = Durability: 50 (do not add TPE here, injuries are turned off)
PH = Puck Handling: 80
FO = Face Offs: 40
PA = Passing: 70
SC = Scoring: 80
DF = Defense: 75
PS = Penalty Shot: 40

OK. So. You want look inside Andrei brain? I show you.
First idea with 350 TPE is to put all in SCORING. Why? Because am andrei. I hit, i score.

BUT if i have 99 score, i only have 67 CHECKING. Not even 69. No good.
SO #2 i buy CHECKING up for 82 and still have 83 Score. Not bad.

BUT am andrei. Big man. Strong. Very strong. Need more STRENGTH !
SO #3 i put 72 ST and still have 80 for CH and SC

BUT league have stupid rules. need PASS for SCORE.
SO #4 i put 64 in pass for 84 in SCORE

BUT league have stupid sim machine. Need SK PH and other useless things
SO i put 70 in CH SK ST PH and have 65 for PA and 80 in SC

When i have more TPE i can put all in SCORING and  CHECKING after
good night

I have wanted to build a two-way center from the beginning and this build helps me achieve that.  Since it’s very unlikely I crack the top lines in my first couple of seasons, I want to focus on building up my defense as one of my primary attributes in order to help my club as best as I can.  After I’m satisfied with where my defense is, I would train faceoffs to again help out on defense and then train passing and scoring to provide a secondary scoring threat.  Since centers don’t really have that big of a checking role compared to the other skaters, I made it my weakness.  Endurance is fairly important, but not as important as others so it would be trained later.  I think that skating will be a bit more important than puck handling and strength to my player so that will be trained next.  Lastly, I would like to be a bit of a penalty shot specialist, but this is subject to change.  Overall, I think this is a fairly balanced build for a center that will help my junior club.

As a center, I want to be defensively responsible but as well have really great offense abilities too. Faceoffs will be important as of right now they’re not where I want them to be but it’ll be a progress to get there. As playmaker I feel like passing should be my best stat but scoring should not be too far behind. I’ll also want to have a decent skating and puck handling stats because I think that’ll help. I think fighting and checking aren’t really that necessary since I’m not an enforcer or a defender. Penalty shots aren’t as common so I don’t see a need for that. The two stats that are Endurance and Discipline I feel as if they aren’t as big as stats like Passing, Scoring, Defense, etc, so that’s why they aren’t as high but not too low. I really feel like this build is pretty good for a start and it’s even for the most of the stats across the board. Right now, I’m doing pretty well with 7 points (2g,5A) in 21 games played as a rookie on the third line.

Hello, my name ir Krišs Dārziņš, but for friends just Krish. I think this is one of the best player buildings, which is good at offense and also in defense. If you want to be a good sniper you also need to work at defense, and that is why my defense index is 75. For sniper type of player my scoring in this building is 80, it means that this player can shoot good quality shoots and score goals very often. Also if you want to score goals you need to handle puck good as well, for that I choose puck handling 75. I hope this will be my specimen to future when I get those 350TPE. I want to play hard and score a lot of goals to help my team reach highest results. But ice hockey is team game and only individual players can't to decide the fate of the game. Thanks for reading.

Checking - 40
Fighting - 25
Discipline - 62
Skating - 70
Strength - 65
Endurance - 70
Durability - 50*
Puck Handling - 75
Faceoffs - 40
Passing - 80
Scoring - 70
Defense - 75
Penalty Shot - 40

For my build, I want my player to continue to evolve into a pass-first winger, who can be paired with a natural scorer on a top line. I may not get all of the shine, but I'm okay with that as long as we are winning. I'll continue to focus on improving in the following three areas:

  1. Passing - If I had to identify an individual goal other than winning championships (not just 1, not 2, not 3...), it would be to lead the league in assists. Everyone wants to score, but Ziggy Tambo just wants to make his teammates better.
  2. Defense - I want coach to rely on me. I'll make sure I'm always in the right spot at the right time, on offense and defense. Winning is the #1 priority and giving up goals is in direct conflict with that priority.
  3. Puck Handling - I may be able to see the ice and know where my teammates are, but that doesn't mean much if I can't navigate around defenders to create those passing lanes.

I chose to go with this build because even though I'd prefer to score myself, sometimes helping out with passing can be just as valuable as scoring a goal in some aspects of the game. It might only look like a +1 and a point on the stats sheet, but a win can carry team confidence. I also felt like it was necessary to keep my scoring up to par with passing as well to make it so that I could  be on the flip side of it. Another +1 and point on the sheet, but it could be monumental in a close game down the stretch. With puck handling up close to the same as scoring and passing, it might make it a tad difficult to knock the puck out of my control which is a bonus to add onto it all. Face offs get a slight boost in the event of an out of position play, landing me in center ice for a moment. I don't want to totally screw up in a face off. That's likely going to be the build I try and reach by the time I hit 350 TPE.

I have two goals for Season 53, be an SHL team's top prospect and be awfully close to where Abel Skinner was when he began his second year of professional play.

Abel is currently second in the SMHL in points by a defenseman and we all know why. He moves the puck with ease, captains the powerplay, and isn't afraid to put pucks on net. I'm privileged to play with him in Halifax and believe me, I pick his brain every second I get. Abel is a little more offensive-focused than I would consider myself, but he's no slouch on the defensive end either.

A few days ago, Abel gave me some goals to work toward for this season into the next. He said my skating needed to be at or above what SHL scouts would grade as an 80. My puck handling and passing grades should be slightly above 70, but my scoring about mid-70. Lastly and perhaps most obvious, my SHL scouts need to view my defense as close to 80 as possible.

These are attitudes it takes to get into the earlier round of the SHL draft. Rest assured, I'm zeroed in on these goals and will grind and grind until I get there.

CK = Checking: 60
FG = Fighting: 25
DI = Discipline: 62
SK = Skating: 70
ST = Strength: 45*
EN = Endurance: 60
DU = Durability: 50
PH = Puck Handling: 80
FO = Face Offs: 40
PA = Passing: 60
SC = Scoring: 80
DF = Defense: 80
PS = Penalty Shot: 40

My ultimate goal for my 350 build is to get the most important stats to 80. I am a shoot first player which means my first focus is to get scoring to 80 and passing to 60 because you gotta maintain that 20 gap in Simon. My second focus is to get defense to 80 because defense is also an important stat, even for sniper forwards. My next focus is to get puck handling to 80. Puck Handling is a good stat to dump TPE into because it helps you maintain the puck better. I also would like to get checking to 60 so that I can throw on the occasional hit. And then skating to 70 because thats also a stat that helps with maintaining the puck but I do not think its worth it to get that stat to 80. Strength is my weakness so I do not want to put a lot into it, I think 45 is enough.

This build maximizes the use of numerical based magicks (see: Meme Magic) '69' is inherently a good and lucky number. Moreso outside of memes it is a balanced, pass-first shutdown defense-man build. My understanding is that Defense is one of the strongest stats in the sim currently so hence why it gets bumped one above '69'. I also understand that many of the other stats like endurance, strength and checking are not as valued but I think it makes the most sense for the kind of player I am trying to build. Hopefully this kind of balanced build gets more success in the next simulator. I also focused on some skating and fighting, this is so that my player has the agility to knock the opponents best and fastest skaters to the ground, and if they wanna catch some smoke after a big hit, they can get that as well. Kalashnikov is looking to be an all-around pain train that shuts down any offensive chances the enemy has.

At 350 TPE I would like to be a more well rounded player with a little bit extra in scoring. I would like to be defensibly responsible since, ideally, I would become a solid two way player who can comfortably play on the top six of any SJHL team. The biggest obstacle in achieving this build is that I don't know what I'm doing. I have, however, been reading a fair bit on how the different stats interact with each other, as well as talking to other members of my team. Something to note is checking, is it a good skill? Is it useful? I do not know. Luckily, it doesn't matter all that much if I put points into it, since being a well rounded player means I won't have any glaring weaknesses. When I get to the SHL, I plan to dump as many points into offensive skills as possible, such as scoring and puck handling. In the end, I should become a scoring threat on whatever team I land on.

At 350 TPE, I am hoping to be one of the best defensemen in the SMJHL, and if I am it will all be thanks to my buddy Tomen, who has imbued his sage advice upon me. It appears that he, like most, emphasizes the importance of defense and one of scoring/passing, as he has me set up with 80 defense and 80 scoring at the cap-out point. The build he suggested also has 76 skating and puck-handling, meaning I should be, essentially, and extra wing playing as a defender. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. Because that's what I want to be. With the new rules around the scoring-passing difference, I can't quite abuse the sim, but it does seem like keeping them apart by 20 is sort of the meta in the league right now, so that's what I'm aiming for as we wait for the FHM transition. To break it down attribute-by-attribute:

My goal is to be a puck moving defense-man in the offensive zone, being especially dangerous on the power play. To that end, I pumped passing up to 80. Positioning and responsible defense is also a primary goal for my player, so I decided that both a high defense and puck handling stat would be appropriate so i can be in the right place to take the puck, and the be able to keep it without turning it over. I chose to ignore the checking stat, as it is not part of my planned archetype and I would like to avoid unnecessary penalties. I tried to also get my secondary stats to a somewhat acceptable level, with Skating and Scoring to 70, as well as strength to 60 and endurance to 64. Once i'm allowed to move to a 425 tpe build, I plan on buffing my secondary attributes to get a better balance.

Ultimately, I want to have a permanent spot on special teams, PK and PP.  Early focus on Defense, Puck Handling, and Passing ensure I'll help shut down opposing teams chances, and help move the puck up ice to teammates for scoring chances.  Secondary focus will be in Skating, more defense, and a little boost to scoring.  If I want to be put on the special teams, I'll need to be sure to produce on the PP or help shut down on the PK.  Not worried about checking or strength; I shall not check nor be checked, as my superior Puck Handling and Skating will see me deftly dodge and skate circles around opposing players.  Hoping to have higher assists than goals, but about the same number of blocked shots as points.  I'd also like to keep clean with low PIM; can't help on special teams if I'm the one in the bin.
