S52 Championship Week

The one attribute that I'm really excited about in FHM is passing. When I first signed up for the SHL, my intentions for Ulrik were to be a pass first D man that is really strong defensively. It quickly became apparent however, that STHS doesn't place tremendous value in passing and that just maxing out shooting was the winning strategy (literally). Now that we're moving to a new engine, I can once again focus on the passing area of the game. Ulrik doesn't need to blast slappers from the blue line. I would much prefer that he be able to make great stretch passes that set up his forwards for great breakaway opportunities.

4. Written, 3 TPE (150 words min.)
Ulrik's offseason schedule is as follows: Monday - Chest day, Tuesday - Chest day x2, Wednesday - Chest day x3, Thursday - Chest day x4, Friday - Arms day, Saturday- Leg day, Sunday - Rest day. And repeat. It's 24 hours a day training in the glorious house of gains! When Ulrik returns for S53, he will be tougher, he will be meaner, he will be badder. Size is the prize, swole is the goal, it's gains 'o' clock! It's time to go, I'm already late! When I see the other weak players on the ice I'll ask: "You call those pecs? I call those pathetics. You call those abs? I call those abnormals." Outside of pumping mad bars and becoming the swolest stud muffin in the SHL, I'll be working alongside my teammates in the optional team practices throughout the offseason. It may not sound like the most fun offseason but the road to domination is paved with blood sweat and tears.

6. Written, 2 TPE (100 words min.)
I'm all for the SHL trying to do their part for the environment and reducing its carbon footprint. I consider myself an environmentalist, recycling everything I can, reducing single use plastics, etc. However, I cannot support this measure to reduce air travel by using a single location for the championship and the reason why is our fans. For years, teams have experienced the thrill and excitement of playing in the finals in their hometowns with all of their screaming fans who have followed them over the years cheer them on to victory. We have seen these fans go ballistic as their team hoists the cup and we have seen thousands of tears as their team has gone home eliminated. We cannot simply abandon this tradition and these amazing memories. Instead we can reduce plastic use in the concessions stands and promote more recycling at stadiums.

And boy did they really have courage
Stood them up
Won the cup
And celebrated with a bowl of porridge

There once was a man named Corey
Who hoped to achieve true glory
He applied for the gig

And he will serve as the judge and the jury

1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?
I think that Luketd and DaftRaincloud will come out with the strategic edge. Both have proven themselves to be very competent managers that have really brought their team together and brought with them new and interesting ideas on how to run a team. While they are newer, I don't think experience is super important in STHS. I also think being newer will allow them to try new things, be bold, and come up with good strategies to get that win.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
I think we all know that depth wins championships but I think SFP's top two lines will simple outplay, outmaneuver, and crush the Rage. I don't think the difference in ice time is that different between the two teams so I think that SFP will have the advantage. If the ice time disparity was greater or SFP's top two lines weren't so good then I might have thought otherwise.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
Out of all of the teams in the SHL, I think the Calgary Dragons have the best logo. First, one of the main concern's with a team's logo is their team colors and the red and black color scheme is an absolute classic winner. Next, Dragons are one of the best mascots. They are fierce, they are cool, and they are mysterious and magical. You can't beat that color and mascot combo.

5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, © an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?
B. I would want a private meet and greet with Gritty. His cold soulless eyes meeting mine and captivating me, as I feel myself drawn to him. I want to feel the warm embrace of his outlandish orange fur that coats his enormous torso. I want to behold his menacing grin that no doubt conceals his sinister inner desires and feel his hot breath on my face. Then I'd ask him to tell me the secret behind the Flyers winning 9 of their last 10 games.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In this other dimension, the playoffs are held as double elimination.  For the sake of simplicity, the match ups that only happened in the shadow realm also line up with the regular season series between the teams.  Additionally, the bottom two wild cards enter into the losers' bracket instead of playing into the winners' bracket.

First, we introduce an extra two wild card teams to start in the West and East thunderdome at single elimination.  With no bias from the author, Winnipeg now makes it in and so does New England.  Calgary and Toronto are now also facing single elimination against the first round of fallen winners.

San Francisco now plays Los Angeles in the first round, but San Francisco moves on anyway.  NOLA still beats Edmonton, and from there the Western winners' bracket plays out as we saw it here.  The Eastern winner's bracket also plays out exactly as we saw it.

In the losers' bracket, Winnipeg draws the higher seeded Edmonton and Winnipeg gets thoroughly decimated.  Calgary draws Los Angeles and wins in 7 just like we saw it in the real wild card round.  New England draws Hamilton and just barely loses out.  Toronto draws Chicago but just barely loses like New England did.

The four losers need to narrow down to two for the next round, so they duke it out.  Calgary beats Edmonton; Hamilton beats Chicago.  NOLA and Buffalo fall but only Buffalo can survive.  That leaves Calgary and Buffalo for the losers' semi final.

Losers' semi is almost a dead tie.  In triple overtime, Buffalo edges out Calgary for a chance at making a run.  San Francisco loses against Manhattan as we saw, but now San Francisco has a chance to come back.  San Francisco crushes Buffalo and now we get the shadow matchup of San Francisco vs Manhattan.  Another almost dead tie, but San Francisco wins in double overtime for the shadow realm Challenge Cup.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

I am giving the Winnipeg Jets the worst odds, just absolutely abysmal.  However, that is only because I'm trying to make bank.  I can put some guilt free money down on myself and if we pull through, I will never have to write media again.  In reality, I think we could really make a run and it's anyone's game.  There are plenty of IIHF federation heads on our squad, so with enough brain storming, we could pull something together.

On the flip side, I am giving Hamilton the best odds.  If there is any team that can crack the new system on the inaugural season, I would pick them.  While we might be brain storming, I expect they are experimenting to find the best approach.  I notice that they don't have completed builds on the tracker, so maybe they are coordinating this effort internally and keeping it private.  All of this is total speculation that can really fill the word count.

By now, you're probably familiar with the attributes on FHM, and you likely have some sense of what type of build you're going to be aiming for with your player. What one attribute are you going to focus on most? Of all the attributes in the game, what is your player going to strive to be the absolute best at? Why are you picking that specific attribute above all others?

I feel that I'm now able to actually focus on defensive stats, instead of just maxing out everything to be all around good.  For one specific stat, I will strive for Defensive Read, although I am spreading my stats out to all my defensive skills.  I feel like this is what I wanted Defense to be in Simon T, except that Defense was very important for everyone not just my shut down defender.  Slip McScruff is going to be the biggest party pooper around and I love it.

While they won't be my highest stats, I'm personally very excited to invest in Bravery and Aggression as well.  I wish that we could put points into Leadership because I would definitely boost that, but I'm glad that I have control to make Slip stupidly brave.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

As usual, Slip McScruff is looking forward to IIHF.  He is coming off back to back Gold medals and is looking to repeat his Four Star Threepeat in the IIHF.  This time around, he is joined by Michael Fox who has been involved with the team for a long time but is now finally able to take to the ice.

Special to this offseason, he is stretching his legs to train in new ways.  Specifically, he is taking to the batting cages and staring down the machine to work on his bravery because he is now allowed to be braver than everyone else on the ice.

However, with all that going on, he will be quarantining between events to avoid the Bud Light Virus.  That basically means making tons of kraft mac n cheese, drinking gallons of beer, and playing animal crossing.  He tells me that the animal crossing is to train in aggression, but I'm not sure I believe him.

The SHL is taking a stand and trying to do its part in reducing its carbon footprint. One of the proposed ideas is to eliminate back and forth air travel during the Challenge Cup and Four Star Cup finals and instead hold all 4-7 games in one neutral, rotating location a la the Super Bowl. Are you FOR or AGAINST this idea? Why?

I am FOR this idea mostly, but with some minor tweak.  I agree that we should stop traveling back and forth between each game and killing the planet.  However, I don't think the location should rotate.  I think we should play it different and keep all of the playoff games in one specific facility.

There is something to be said about all the fans traveling to the one location every year, but we can prevent that too.  There should be large local events in each of the home cities to show the games and no one should be allowed to travel to the playoff arena.

The playoff arena will have no seating because it will be played up on the side of a mountain.  There will be a specific sheet of ice for each series, and teams will work their way up the mountain.  Meeting at the top for the finals.  This saves additional emissions because all teams arrive at the start of playoffs and don't leave until they are eliminated.

The one attribute that I'll be focusing on will be Reflexes. Seeing as I'm basing my player on Jonathan Quick, I'd want Markus to excel at the same things as he did in his prime. While he had good rebound control and glove speed, his most impressive skill was finding the one way to stop a puck when all hope was lost. Sure, some will say that he was relying on it too much, but at some point, you just have to accept that this is his goalkeeping style. So while I had Rebound Control and Hand Speed as strengths in STHS, the one thing I want to preserve and nurture the most is the uncanny ability to make an impossible save, which is what I saw in Reaction Time. The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

This is the first full season that Markus has spent in Minnesota, and the change in scenery has been very taxing, albeit fruitful one for the young Swiss. He was reunited with one of the leaders of the Switzerland IIHF team, Mathias Seger, and that presence alone put him at ease when he felt the pressure - which is normal for a 22 year-old being asked to become the uncontested starter of a rebuilding team. Nonetheless, it was a character building season with the Chiefs. When the regular season was over, he was approached almost immediately by the General Manager of the team, and the negotiations for a new contract were very quick and efficient. It calmed him, knowing that his showing secured him a spot in the big leagues for years to come. Markus still took the time to go back to Bern to enjoy his summer vacation to the fullest, before coming back to Minneapolis - St. Paul at the end of July. He started doing gym workouts with Noah Tedla, another member of the Switzerland team, and that helped him develop a new gear as far as stamina goes, which he found lacking in the latter stages of last season. He'll do everything to build a legacy in the SHL, and help turn the franchise around. (218 words)

AGAINST - this is folly. You can't strip the two cities of the major buzz and tourism boost that comes with hosting Challenge Cup Finals games! I'm all for reducing the carbon footprint of the league, but there are other ways to accomplish that same goal. We could start by taking out all meat from the arena menus? There are many healthy and delicious alternatives to meat, and most fans wouldn't notice the difference, as plastered as they are during the games. And then, we could also try to limit the number of single-use plastics distributed - that includes not only water bottles and plastic cups, but also some game-day memorabilia that is utterly useless, such as foam fingers. It's not much in the grand scheme of things, but every little bit helps. (133 words)

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.

In the spirit of my previous answer concerning the meat usage in arenas, I have the perfect pitch for the Manhattan Rage - the "Rage Against The Machine" combo! It all starts with a six inch long soy-based bratwurst, seasoned to perfection and prepared on the grill. You cut it in half, put both halves in a rye bread bun, and garnish it with French fries - and you top it off with strong mustard, mayonnaise, and Monterrey Jack cheese. That, my friends, is called a "machine gun" hot dog, and it's one of the most delicious and decadent things you'll have ever eaten. And as a side, you need the "rage" part - so why not serve it with 3 jalapeño poppers, in order to crank up the heat to 11! If your face is not flaming red after eating this combo, then you have ice flowing in your veins! Of course, this combo comes with a 25 oz beverage, to quench the thirst you will have accumulated after finishing your meal (we recommend water, soda is not really good for you...) All of this for a lowly price of 12.99$! (190 words)

1. In all honesty, I'd give the edge to experience in the case of two teams that haven't been in the final in over 10 seasons. I also do love me a team that has a lot of offensive contribution from the back-end. However, there's only one problem with that game plan - Peter Larsson's incredible play. If he sees the shot coming, he will stop it - plain and simple. And there's no amount of game plan that can change that. (80 words)

2. Of course, I would prefer my team to spread out the use of their forwards as evenly as possible as long as the score remains within reason. If I see my team trailing heavily, with the game still within reach, I'd start going a bit more top heavy. Would that we were allowed to strategize that way in STHS... (59 words)

3. I really appreciate the simplicity in the design of the Edmonton Blizzard logo. I think it's a very elegant, yet unassuming logo, with the wolf's head seemingly static, as if facing a heavy flurry of snow and wind. I'm also a sucker for two-tone blue color schemes, and this one is exploited to perfection, drawing the attention to the muzzle of the wolf at first glance, and then slowly expanding towards the outside. It's simple, but telling - exactly what any logo should strive for. (85 words)

4. As a metalhead and cartoon aficionado, you can probably deduce that the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse had a very strong impact on me, and is still a show I quote heavily. I had a literal fanboy moment as I squeed in delight, and immediately found my team for this series. (72 words)

5. Gritty is love, Gritty is life. I could simply copy and paste these words until I hit the 50 words mark, but I guess that would be flagged as low effort. I would absolutely enjoy a private meet-and-greet with Gritty - and Luke can come, too. As long as he doesn't disturb us too much. I feel that I should mention that it is certain, ABSOLUTELY certain, that I'm the bigger Gritty fan out of us two. No contest. What does he have, Gritty as an avatar and a face gen? Hah! Next season is definitely New England's time to shine. No longer do we live under the tyranny of Simon T -- we have been blessed to be taken in by the new, merciful sim god, Franchise Hockey Manager. This likely means that our stacked roster will finally be able to do something other than barely miss a wildcard spot despite having the highest average TPE in the league. We will be the powerhouse team that other teams will look to beat, unless our coaches end up rolling some very sub optimal strats (which I hope is not the case please @hotdog I beg you I can't take any more failure). In fact, the only reason why we would not be the favourites for the cup is because another team has vastly more experience than us in constructing FHM rosters and lines. This is entirely possible, but I believe in the FHM experts in our LR to guide us to the promised land. Also, worst odds go to the Toronto North Stars, because 1) have you seen their roster? and 2) @ml002 is a bad coach whose luck will run out at some point.

I'm going to give two answers here -- one serious and one not so serious. Starting with the serious one, my attribute of choice would definitely be offensive read. Since I'm building a relatively balanced quarterback, the most important ability for Guy Zheng is to be able to assess offensive situations (such as on the powerplay), and make the best decisions in order to enable my teammates to score. Of course, there are many other attributes that will need to be good as well in order to complement offensive read, such as passing and stickhandling. My non-serious answer is aggression, because it's always been my dream to build a complete caveman.

After a full season of grinding through every game, getting pucks deep, getting pucks on net, trying our best to get lucky bounces, outworking the other guys, playing with tenacity and grit, playing with skill and speed, and making sure our passes connect, Guy Zheng is ready to kick off his skates and rest for a little bit. Sure, he'll be spending a lot of time with skills coaches in order to adapt his game to the new style of play that is being applied to the league, but what he's looking forward to most is to just stay at home, sit in front of the computer, and play his favourite video game: Eastside Hockey Manager. Guy admits that it's an actual piece of shit game that only works half the time and doesn't make sense the other half of the time, but there's a certain charm to it that he somehow cannot resist.

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

If I were on the award committee, the player that I would likely nominate for an award in a future season is Dominic Montgomery. Although the recent advanced stats report that came out painted a pretty damning picture of his play (almost the highest number of turnovers in the league? @bilbo what are you doing get yourself under control), I'm sure with the FHM switch that is coming up, bilbo will be smart enough to actually go with a good build and put their hard earned teps to good use. Because of this, and the stacked defensive core of the Pride, I believe that being such an integral part of a strong team (with a good build as well) will lead to many Stevens and Biscuit nominations for young Montgomery.

I am against this idea. Before anyone reading this gets all outraged because they think I hate the environment or don't care about climate change, let me explain why I'm against it. I'm against it because I don't think it goes far enough. Climate change and the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is one of the biggest hurdles that humanity has ever faced. In a few decades, the wildfires that happened in Australia won't even be looked at as significant anymore. The acidification of the oceans and global catastrophe that climate change will bring will dwarf anything that we've seen so far. This is why I believe the league needs to take an even stronger stance on reducing its carbon footprint and hold every game (regular season and playoffs, for every team) in one single city in order to cut down on travel.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

Congrats [TEAM] (Manhattan Rage)! You did really well to beat [OTHER TEAM] (San Francisco Pride)! Reflecting back on the series, I think [PLAYER] (Alex Winters) really deserves the series MVP vote, solely because he scored the cup winning goal. Just like how I believe Lars Eller deserved to win the Conn Smythe because he scored the cup winning goal in the NHL for the caps back in the historical 2018 Stanley Cup finals against the historic Vegas Golden Knights team. However, there is also a case to be made for Jax Aittokallio to win the series MVP, because he scored the game tying goal that lead to the Rage's 3 goal rally to close out the game. Similar to the analogy above, I wouldn't have been mad if Devante Smith Pelly won the Conn Smythe because he scored the historic game-tying goal in the last game of the cup finals.

3. The transition to FHM attributes will be difficult. I built an all around player up to this point and was happy with the outcome; I plan on using the same techniques with this new attribute system. One reason I did so well over the past two years was my combination of skill in passing and scoring. Most people in the league focused heavily on one of the two while I evenly distributed my points. Considering I played with two of the best scorers in the league in Cal and J Mac, My versatility complimented their elite offensive skill. While i do plan on working on both passing and scoring, I am going to focus most of my points in passing. I want to show up on the score sheet as much as possible, and being paired with scorers like them hammering my passing attribute is the best thing for the team.

4. After entering the playoffs as the one seed and going out in the second round, Luke and the Falcons were disappointed with the outcome of this season. Of course coming off a near last place finish the year before, the progression from one year to the next was very impressive. The top line of Luke, J Mac and Cal turned out to be one of the most explosive lines in the SMJHL. All will most likely have at least one more year with the Falcons and I see even more of an improvement among them. I'm very excited to eventually play for the Blizzard, so i plan on having a restless offseason. I, of course, planned a romantic trip to the Bahamas with my smoking hot girlfriend because you know you have to. But once I get back from that I plan on working straight through to the start of the season so i can surpass my point total from last year.

6. I agree with this idea to make the Cup finals in one neutral place. I've been waiting for all professional sports to do this because it makes more sense to have all of the games at one location rather than making them fly back and forth all week. There are many upsides to doing this. Eliminating the need to travel will allow the league to have games on a more frequent basis; most NHL finals games are played every other day, but if the teams don't need to travel they can throw in an occasional back to back. This will make seasons shorter which the NHL, and NBA, need to enforce badly. It could also make the finals series have a sort of Olympic feel. Having it in one location will make it feel more like a week long event rather than feel like individual games. I believe it will make the entire series more exciting.

8. One idea that I actually heard first from my girlfriend involves an exchange of money for a service rather than a product. It is a constant struggle to obtain food and drink at sporting events. Most people pick the wrong time to get up whether it's because of the line being long or because they missed an awesome goal. Her idea was that there could be an app that worked almost liked uber eats, except it allowed you to purchase food and drink from your phone to either be delivered to your seat or brought to the top of the stairway at your row. The stadium would gain extra revenue from the lazy fans that didn't want to get up and from the fees the workers pay for working at the stadium. It will open up many more jobs around the country and could turn into enormous profit for the stadiums.

1. In this timeline, the Hamilton Steelhawks had actually gotten past the Buffalo Stampede, and eventually went on to become the Challenge Cup Champions. This is where things get interesting: after their win, they win again next season. And again. And again. This happens until S347 where the Steelhawks lose to the Omaha Crop Children (relocated from Seattle after what we would consider today the Tampa Bay Barracuda relocated to Seattle on 14 separate occasions) after a 1-0, 7 OT Game 9 (the playoff format expanded after reaching 256 teams). After the series, the withered remains of Aaron Wilson and Dale Miller finally turn into ash after playing the finals with only 1 TPE put into scoring. The Hamilton Steelhawks, who had been ran by Simon T himself, then relocate as the Saskatoon Saskatonians and play out their days as the SHL withers away, eventually leading to Aaron shutting down the site after he's done with maintaining thousands of players.

3. I will be mainly focusing on Defensive Read, as that was one of the things I forgot to update in my initial build. As for my goals with Joln, I'm planning on having him be a really good defensive defenseman, and hopefully gain some Bojo Biscuit Trophies along the way. For me, I'm also wanting to be strong with getting the puck out of the opposing team's sticks and get it back to my team as soon as possible, if not carry it down the ice for a celly. In the end, I'm very excited to see how FHM treats me.

4. Joln DuBolk will be spending the offseason training. After recording the most shots blocked in the league last year, he realized he can be incredibly good at his job and decided to put on more muscle for that extra Grit/60. He'll fly to Sweden in order to get swole and get naked in a sauna, just so he can lose all that water weight he's been putting on. He'll play in one of the mens leagues and completely dominate all the SHL wannabes that never truley made it, and celly them each and every time. After returning home, he'll get together with SHL legend Andrew Joycon and begin the training regiment he developed, which has been determined to be one hundred percent successful, being a mix of crossfit, body building, Pilates and Zumba. Being a big guy, he'll be slow as hell and get yelled at by Karen, who had yelled at a Starbucks employee that they wouldn't get her double shot pumpkin frappe with extra caramel, even though they stopped selling it 6 months ago and is coming back in a month

7.
Aaron Wilson opened up FHM at last
In order to put Simon T in the past
He put scoring was high
Their playoffs were "nigh"
Turns out they were last

Tampa Bay has many a beautiful face
In S50, they came in 2nd place
Before switching clients
Their GM was suppliant
Of limericks and grace

1) Let me tell you about my boy Luke: he made the Whalers a contender until I came along, and even though he's a filthy Eagles fan, I respect him as a manager in this fake hockey league, so I'll say the JayWhy and Luke duo as the team with the advantage.

15. For me as a person who hadn't really followed the series since I was drowned with college stuff, I say it goes to Luke Thomason. Besides being one of the best players in the SHL today and being a key component of the Manhattan Rage, he is also a very cute, very sexy, and I want to caress his cute face. Jesus Christ I want him so badly, I can explode. That aside, it should absolutely go to Luke Thomason, given the player is great and the guy behind him is just as great for the site and the Rage in general.

2.) Hockey is a random ass sport where one bounce can ruin an entire season's hard work. I'm sure Vegas have some models that are reliable albeit not perfect, but now I'm meant to be in charge of placing odds? Well, f it. I'm sure all the bettors will still eat up whatever I say so why not be biased and make the Chiefs the team with the best chance of winning. With Gibbles as GM, I'm sure the magic pixie dust he has will turn the "cursed" team into champions, especially with the talent coming up this season. As for the worst team? Well, wouldn't this be a good time to shit on Hamilton, right? Surprise, I'll make Manhattan have the lowest odds. Luke Thomason is probably drinking to the point where he's got a dad bod right now and not even clapbombs to the stomach will make him puke it all out. Down goes the ship with him a voila, the Rage will be raging no more.

3.) As a mobile d-man, I would like to zero in on positioning. Of course, I want to be faster than Sonic on ice, but skating is broken down into acceleration, speed, agility, and balance, and rightfully so. Positioning strengthens a couple of characteristics. If I want to be able to lay a clean hit, intercept a pass, use my stick to break up a play, (etc.), I'm going to want to be at the right place at the right time in order to make that defensive action. From there, I can use my skating ability to transition and help out offensively by making the right pass or even carrying the puck out of the zone if I can.

4.) Ever since that S51 IIHF Tournament, I've been longing the chance to rep the red and white again. The locker room is great, my teammates are so talented, and truthfully, when we're all locked in, I think we can make it back to the Final. We've added Nick Connolly (hi @shutdown) to add to the roster that's got a whole lotta potential. Boy, oh boy, I just want to get that gold medal around my neck. Besides aspirations for more hardware, I'm looking to train hard, get my body right, and keep improving. The d-men at Minny are always up for some training and their work ethic is what keeps us all together honestly. We all love hockey and want to be the best hockey players we can be. Geoff Moore *is* an old man, though, so we might have to take it easy on him, or else he'll end up wanting to use botox over his face moisturizer.

5.) If he keeps growing as an offensive forward, I think Phineas Gold could win the Sergei Karpotsev award. Gold has a lot of tools in his toolbelt. He can pass well, dangle well, and he's got a really good shot on him. Averaging a point every other game as a rookie is pretty impressive when logging third-line minutes. It might be a bit preposterous, but if he were to play on the top 6, hell, even alongside a point-producing superstar like Luke Thomason, he could make magic happen and reach point-per-game numbers in the near future, possibly even next season. The sky is the limit for him.

6.) Boomers will probably cry cause this breaks tradition, but I think it is a great idea. We are all hockey players, but also citizens of the world. It is our job to take care of the planet, and reducing our carbon footprint wherever we can is always good. Since we don't know who will get to the Challenge Cup final beforehand, to make it fair to both sets of fans, I think one addition we could add to making the venue neutral is allowing a certain amount of "home", "away", and "neutral" fans so that way the atmosphere still feels like the two teams are playing in their respective arenas.

14 (5).) This one is a no-brainer for me. I don't plan on making any hockey sticks out of maple, birch, oak (etc.), so I'll have to pass on a chainsaw lesson. Grapes are a cool snack, but an all-you-can-eat buffet of one fruit screams trash and I don't care about who grew the grapes or where they might've been imported from. DaftRaincloud is a great guy and show-host, but god knows where the award presentation ideas come from. Gritty is a class act, an icon, and someone all of us should aspire to be. Catch me in Philly with Mr. Thomason any day of the week.

This reality is just one of the infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
In this reality, Toronto North Stars have a perfect season. 50-0 and undefeated in the playoffs. This reality, rebuilding teams are champing every year and Toronto North Stars have gone back-to-back-to-back-to-back-back. They are the ultimate champs in this reality, and they have just added TOP prospect First-Name Last-Name and are now guaranteed to win for the rest of eternity. At this rate, the SHL will just be renamed to TORONTO, since they are championing all the time in this reality. All this infinite reality talk is reminding me of Rick and Morty; SHL edition. But also, in another reality, Toronto goes 0-50 and has been rebuilding for years, at this rate the team is going to fold or relocate. So which reality is the real one? I think a season somewhere in-between, a decent year and maybe a good run in the playoffs? Stay tuned next episode to see where Rick and Morty travel next.

I am not big into odds and all those nerd analytics but what I do know, next season Toronto is going to win it all. No satire or sarcasm, they just traded for mega-superstar “First-Name Last-Name” and are now going to go 50-0 next season. This team has been rebuilding for a few years but now it is all going to turn around this next season. But in all seriousness, I think Edmonton has a decent chance at making a run this year. Even though I was traded, I am excited to see how they do because they have a solid roster. I am excited to go against those guys and I hope Toronto can make a decent run ourselves. It’s hard to predict next season because of the sim switch, so we don’t really know how all that is going to work out, but I am excited for this new chapter of the SHL.

I am looking to make an Auston Matthews type player build; focus on scoring but also playing a heavy-bodied game. I am not sure how this is going to translate into the sim, but that’s the vision I have for my build. In my final season in juniors, I started to develop into what I wanted for my player. I finished with almost 50/50 splits in goals and assists with less than 10 PIMS all season. I would like to get my scoring up and also lay more hits. This last season I was lacking in that department, and I think it affected my goal scoring.

TPE TPE TPE! This offseason like the rest, I am wanting to gain as much TPE I can. With the sim switch coming up, and my rookie year in the league, I want to have as much TPE possible to improve my player. I was just traded to Toronto and they have some ice-time open, so I am wanting to be in the best position to help my team. I also want to take some personal time and relax for a while. It’s been a long season with WJC and then the regular season/playoffs. Maybe go on a vacation somewhere remote and just go off the grid for a while, obviously still training though. I am not big into a lavish offseason, just concerned with my performance next season. Champions are made in the offseason, and I want to develop as much as I can. So this offseason, lots of training but also relaxing and taking it easy.

Why? AGAINST! Home ice advantage can be a huge thing in the playoffs and have it at a neutral location for more than one game would be a hassle for the fans. Also, I don’t think it will actually reduce the carbon footprint because more fans will drive/fly to the neutral venue for multiple games and that is causing more pollution. Also, I feel like it would be punishing the fans and I think it works for the Super Bowl because it is only one game, having a whole series would just not make any sense. Players have certain routines at home and they would be closer to their families.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
In this alternate reality, the New Orleans Specters win their first game seven as a franchise, making their first Challenge Cup Final sine their inaugural season. Nothing changes on the Eastern side, however, as the Manhattan Rage find themselves in the Challenge Cup Final as well. This matchup isn't one of bad blood as the SHL may be used to. This is a matchup of good friends and hard working competitors, and it would have been reflected in the series overall. There would not have been any fights, and any penalties taken would have been purely accidental. This series would have ended up going to seven games as well, putting New Orleans in an uncomfortable spot seeing as how this postseason finally got them their first game seven win. Wanna make it even more spooky? Game seven in this reality would be tied 7-7 and go into 7 overtimes. The game winning goal? Aleister Cain, somehow..... Makes you think what kind of voodoo magic they had cooking up.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?
Putting bias aside, the best casino odds for Cup winner next season with the move to FHM would have to be the New Orleans Specters. Wait.....didn't I just say I was putting bias aside? Let me explain. This is a team who has seemingly been cursed despite their best voodoo tactics to counter it. Having the highest TPE goalie in the league hasn't helped them in the years of STHS. They boast a solid and improving defensive corps led by Kaspars Claude and Lyle Odelein III. Charlie Serpe and Sean Stevenson Jr aren't defensemen to be taken lightly either. A forward corps led by Lil Manius and Nicholas Williams should see their top end scoring take a jump as well. They may not have the strongest regular season, but this is a team that is built to last. The worst Cup odds? I hate to say it, but the Toronto North Stars. This team is still in the midst of a rebuild and has had some of the worst showings in league history in preliminary testing.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!
Michael Fox has slipped and fell into a trench of complacency lately and has struggled to climb out of it. This offseason, however, Fox will be spending all of his time working on getting himself truly in game shape heading into the FHM era. Fox has been on the cusp of a breakout for what has felt like an eternity, and it can all be traced back to the fact that he has simply not put the work in to get better. Going back to his roots, Fox will spend his time focusing on his stickwork, puckhandling, skating, and agility. Long removed from the glory days of running through other high school kids, Fox has found a new love for the game and looks poised to take the league by the throat and throw down. For all of the doubters out there, and especially to those who have been calling for it: the time has come. Keep an eye out for the Specters budding star.

1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?
2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
1. While there is no strategic edge in Simon, as we all know there is a certain level of randomness that simply cannot be accounted for, the supposed edge in this matchup has to go to the team that uses a more analytical approach: Manhattan. LukeTD is know for how strongly he takes analytics into account, and I think the end result proved that more teams should look deeper into the statistics when building their lines.
2. While the 40-40-15 approach is good for individual games with no extenuating circumstances, this is not a good approach for a full series. The players on the top end of the 40-40 lines are going to burn out much quicker than the players on any of the 35-33-32 lines would. Looking back on the series, I again think this is the correct choice to make as Manhattan came out on top.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.
Peter Larson, without a shadow of a doubt. While a 4-2 W-L in the series isn't as impressive as a 4-0 or 4-1, Larson's play throughout the series is something that, without it, Manhattan would not have come away with the Cup. Throughout the course of the series, Larson stopped 194 of 206 shots for a save percentage of .941 and a GAA of 2.00. Looking at the two losses specifically, Larson stopped 63 of 67 shots for a save percentage of .940 and a GAA of 2.00. Under normal circumstances, these numbers are more than enough to earn your team a win. The losses weren't his fault, and the wins would not have come without their brick wall in net. Peter Larson is 100% the series MVP, and there is no close second.
