So, it’s not exactly a secret but, S52 was my final season at the helm of the SHL Casino and as part of the PT team. I want to thank everyone that bet, followed, commented, suggested, or just had a good time with the Casino from its debut season until now. It’s been a seriously entertaining time for me to be able to work on it from the start and watch it grow and flourish. It could have never happened without the support of a guy like @Mike Izzy who helped me hash out so much related to the Casino and then fought to help implement it with me. It means a lot that we worked so hard for this my friend, and it’s incredible what it has become in just a few short seasons. And to the man @hotdog who let me go full bore on the Casino, knowing it was my baby, and that I treated her better than I treated myself.

Unfortunately, we all have real lives and, in my case, my mental health has become a problem. I’ve cut back on some things regarding this and other sim leagues going forward in the hopes that I can stop hiding from my problems online and face them properly. Please, if you are having health issues, mental or otherwise, seek help. If not for your own sake, but for the sake of those that care about you, support you, and love you! We all have issues in life and it’s important to face them down and not bury them down inside yourself, but I digress.

Since the creation of the Casino in S48, over 900 million SHL dollars have been wagered on the Casino, and the majority of people who have placed bets have walked away with a profit. It was absolutely a learning process for me with the odds and simont fuckery that always threw things off season after season, and I’m sure the amazing @Grum will have a fun time of his own with the transition to FHM6 and how those odds will change.

What I am confident of is that the Casino is being left in very confident and capable hands. I put a lot of time and effort into the Casino to get it to the point where it primarily ran itself beyond offseason odds creation and media posts to keep people up to date. It also helped that the incredible @"luketd" was able to formula up a bunch of sheets that made the data extrapolation a hell of a lot easier for me, and everyone in the Casino team going forward and I really appreciate that.

The addition of the Pick-Em league was a rocky start for the Casino overall. Starting as a survivor league that crashed and burned hard in just three sims (thanks Minnesota) I discussed the future of the Pick-em league with the PT/Casino team and the users that participated and swapped it to a points based league going into Season 52. It also expanded the first Casino function into the SMJHL, which was nice to see the action there, and although both leagues had a bit less involvement than I hoped, it was a nice addition overall I believe for the SHL overall.

Another thing I want to thank everyone for is that because of my work on the Casino, I was nominated for, and won, the Littleton award for being the “most dedicated member”. While I never did it for the accolades or recognition, I certainly was honored to have received the award. For the start I wanted to create a fun betting environment that created a good amount of league based content and also made people pay more attention to games/teams that are not their own. I believe, personally, that it absolutely increased the amount of interest in the entirety of the league and I hope this continues. Even teams that are not your own can be fun to follow, whether you like them or not.

So In closing, I want to thank each and every member of the SHL community that helped the Casino become a massive part of every season. It started as a dream and became a monster that, going into Season 53, will likely have handled well over 1 billion SHL dollars! For my part, now I feel comfortable betting on the Casino, so I’ll be a part of the growing wagers going forward. Be good SHL community, I’m honored to have contributed to this league and to have known so many of you in this way.
