BBP’s Thoughts on Returning to the SHL

BBP’s Thoughts on Returning to the SHL
I bid you hello those I know and those I know not yet,

I started my time in the SHL three months shy of 8 years ago. Many things evolved during my time here and much more has changed in the SHL since I left in 2017. When I joined the junior league was known as the NWJHL, North West Junior Hockey League, featuring my original team the Price George Firebirds. I went on to join the SHL for I believe S9 with the Manhattan Rage. After that I went through three active players, defensive d-man Benoit Charlebois, Alexandre Daigle and Alexander Charlyb’y. I also made a brief return with Tommy Bartlow but he never had the career any of the other three achieved.

Now with the change to a new sim engine I find myself drawn back into the site that started my love for simulation leagues. During my time here I won two Challenge Cups with the Texas Renegades, served as a Co-GM for Texas and for the St. Louis Scarecrows of the SMJHL, while also taking up coaching duties for Team Sweden on the international circuit. I also was an updater and backup updater for the site on a logistics level. Since I left the SHL I was a “AD”, a general manager really, for a two time champion junior side on the SBA, won many championships as a player and had a player reach the HoF. Basically I was way more successful over there than I ever was with my gimmicky players on SHL.

So to tell it straight I really left the SHL when the “new” update scale came in. I have no idea how many times it has been tweaked since but as I remember it when I stopped being able to update an attribute by at least one every week I left the SHL. I felt the amount of effort being put into any build lacked reward. I put so much TPE into attributes that did not directly have a statistic. I could spend two weeks getting my skating up for example and just hope I generally did better. I hated the sim and when it took more work to be good I left.

I hope FHM changes that. I want to see results from the work I put in. Week to week I want to be able to at least look for something. Honestly, I think I will. We have takeaways now, thank god. We may even have advanced stats like Corsi if I understand the system we are using right. Any advanced stat will be impacted by the “invisible attributes” that don’t directly correlate to a statistic.

The community here is absolutely massive. It has grown and grown and grown. I look around and recognize very few names in the comment sections and in the activity thread lists. Now I know people have changed names, btw its kind of because of me that you have to pay for that now... sorry... my whole team decided to change their names to variants of bbp involving the letters b, p, q, d... basically it made the bankers rage quit...

Basically I’m excited for what my 3rd go on the site has in store for me. Hockey has always been my number one sport… I hope SHL can become my number one sim league again.
