S53 WFT #1 - Bold Predictions
#46

Mike Izzy - In their 19th seasons, one of either Robert Phelps or Mike Izzy will win one of the awards for the S53 season

I really think that Robert Phelps has a great chance to win one of the awards for this season. He is an absolutely wonderful person and he can really impress on the ice. I think he will be an awesome player to follow this year and he knows the sim well, so I expect a lot from him.

Quote: Luke - Toronto will win fewer than 7 games

AGAINST. Fewer in this case would mean 6 wins or less. We've already shown that we can score goals during the current preseason (and win! believe it or not) and to believe that we won't even get 7 wins is just too pessimistic. While there are certainly teams out there that we won't be able to beat, there are some that we can definitely win against. We might not be among the top teams out there for some time, but we should be able to pull of at least 7 wins just to prove you wrong. I'll make sure.

AGAINST: Phelps has moved to a 2nd line role as more of a complimentary player on Hamilton, so I doubt he will win any individual awards, unless you count the Littleton, then maybe. Izzy stands more of a chance on this one as he is still a top contributor on Calgary, but I think if I was betting on it I'd bet against either of these guys getting individual awards, they are on the decline now and I doubt either will be team MVP, let alone win major awards.

Against. @"luketd" what is that dumb take? You very well know that by watching the preseason games so far, this is what will happen to Tampa Bay, not Toronto.

Puolivalmiste - TEX goalie White Goodman will be Rookie of the Year
Right team, wrong player. Ivan Maximus (@thiefofcheese) is going to be centering the top line as a rookie. At about 900 TPE, his build is a good blend of Offense, Defense, and Skating. Mazimus should be able to play in a lot of situations for a Texas team desperate for top talent up the middle. The playmaker Maximus will surely benefit from playing on a line with scorers Andreas Kvalheim and Manuel Gotze and should rack up a high number of assists.

On the flip side White Goodman will benefit from a decent defense in front of him, led by Harvey Danger. But his sub 700 TPE as a goalie won't be enough to get it done on a team that doesn't figure to win a lot of games.

Goodman and Maximus both have great careers in front of them, but Maximus is in a much better position to make an immediate impact on the league and will turn some heads on his way to taking home Rookie Of The Year honors in S53.

> Katth - Toronto will not finish last in the league

Listen bud, if anyone is finishing not last in the league, it's the water dogs. Toronto WILL finish last, despite a bad showing this morning in a 6-1 loss. Cuda dogs will rise to the top of the toilet bowl and finish 2nd to last, while toronto finishes dead last where they belong

Puolivalmiste - TEX goalie White Goodman will be Rookie of the Year

I know that he put up insane numbers last year in the SMJHL, carrying an entire team on his back... but this is the SHL where the skill levels are insanely higher and there's no cap. Sorry White Goodman, but I think you're not going to get Rookie of the Year being ventilated by the SHL level shooters.

Quote:Katth - Toronto will not finish last in the league

AGAINST.

It's certainly a hot take as evidenced by the number of people who have selected Toronto in the Casino. Combined with the fact that the casino has set them to come out with the worst expected win rate at 10.5 and tied for the worst odds to win the Challenge Cup at 8-1, it's hard to not imagine them being dead last in the league.

While we're not able to see whether people have bid on over or under for Toronto reaching 10.5 wins, what we do know is that they're currently the highest bid-on team in the S53 casino with 18 responses.

Hard to imagine that people are itching for Toronto to be a huge underdog story with those odds and Katth making that hot take for this WFT.

Looking at their schedule for a second, they'll be expected to play:

6x games each vs Buffalo, Chicago, Hamilton
4x games each vs Manhattan, New England, Tampa Bay, West Kendall Platoon
2x games each vs Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Minnesota, New Orleans, San Francisco, Texas, Winnipeg

The teams in bold are the ones that are the teams that we could most realistically expect them to take a game or two off of. Unfortunately, they have only Carpy to speak of when looking at Toronto. Everybody else may not match up on the goalie side of things, but the overwhelming depth compared to any of these other weaker teams will still make it more likely than not that the odds continue to stack against Toronto.
They'll have a total of 16 games with these other teams, I could maybe see Toronto stealing a series here or there, but everybody else has the advantage of playing more games against the other weaker teams where they could have a better chance at a better record compared to Toronto who not only is the bottom feeder in their division, but only 2 other weak teams in their conference. Only Texas can make the same claim in terms of scheduling difficulty but comparing each other team to team, I still give the edge to Texas with their 5 players over 1k TPE (3 of which being over 1.4k) with Toronto having only 2 players over 1k TPE (Carpy at 1.3ish and Kandinsky at about 1.2)

bbjygm - Hamilton will do well and everybody will be very calm and cool about it when they do

Well obviously this is wrong because clearly based on the preseason streams there are still a lot of people upset with Hamilton. If Hamilton does do well there will absolutely be people who are mad

Quote:Luke - Edmonton will miss the playoffs

Is this some kind of joke? There's hot takes and then there's just saying something for a reaction. No one believes that Edmonton is going to miss the playoffs. Not with a stout top 4 defense and a very deep forward group led by superstar Tony Pepperoni. Get that garbage outta here.

JayWhy - “The Buffalo Stampede will finish just outside the playoffs, at 5th place in the East”

Buffalo is a roster with some of the most talent too to bottom. They’ve also proven year in and year out that they are still here to compete for a CC. I’m not sure if this comes from being a division rival, but this is not a bold take I see happening in the slightest.

Luke - Toronto will win fewer than 7 games

Damn Luke, you straight up crazy, have you seen who plays in net for the North Stars? It is literally impossible for Toronto to get fewer than 7 games with Harry Carpet in net. Pass me over what you've been drinkin'!

JayWhy - The Buffalo Stampede will finish just outside the playoffs, at 5th place in the East

I just don't see this happening at all. The Stampede have four centres over 1500 TPE. Their top pairing on the back end are both over 1750 TPE, and they have three more players over 900 TPE on defense. The wings are led by names that are still young and progressing like Alexander Selich, Nicolaj Muller and Aron Hernadivic, while Viktor Marius is old but still very good. The only weak point is the regressing Cedric Robinson in net, but those pieces on defense and up the middle should easily be able to carry Buffalo to the playoffs.

Even thought I think Toronto will finish last in the SHL this regular season, I just feel as thought winning less than 7 games is almost impossible, even if they aren't that good.

Fordyford - Hamilton will finish dead last in the league

AGAINST

This is an easy one to go against. Hamilton is built very well and has one of the highest TPE goalies in the league. If you take that and add in the fact that Toronto (who many consider to be the worst team right now) has an average of like 600 TPE per player, there's just no way I see Hamilton finishing dead last. They're a very good team and will finish as one of the league's best.
