The Maine Timber are looking good headed into the season. We are a very young team and as expected that means we will have some growing pains moving forward. Some games we look like studs and then the next we can look flat. Finding that consistency is going to be a season long battle that I think its a battle we will win. It will be a season of highs and lows, but as a locker room we will prevail and have a good season. One of our most important players this season will be Thicc Cheezy. He's a star winger and likely playing his final season in the SMJHL. He's a fantastic leader for this team and his input and guidance will be why this team succeeds on ice. Another important player for our team this season is going to be Alexander Roach. Its his second season and he has made massive strides in his offensive game this off season. We have a wealth of young centers on this team and he can be a big part in helping us transition through our first year since he just finished his. A third important player on this roster will be Leo Bloomfield. As the backup goaltender he has to be on top of his game and be able to step in and play at his highest level whenever he gets a game. He gives our starter a night off, but he has to be able to perform at a level that still gives us a chance to win. Overall this season will be super exciting and the start of an amazing future for the Timber.

The Carolina Kraken are a team at the beginning of a dynasty. The Kraken are coming off of the loss of 6 key players to their offense and they reloaded. It would be easy for me to talk about how crucial veterans Jimmy Wagner, Velveteen Dream, Michael Lee, Eller and Cuddles would be to the teams success. However the teams success is going to be up to the growth and development of the nine newly signed rookies.
Starting with Panda Panico, standing at 6 ft 4 in 245 lbs is a big bodied presences who isn't afraid of contact. He's a force to be reckon with and goaltenders around the league will hate seeing his butt park right in front of them opening up holes for Vitek Vitecek. Panda will be a stable part on the second line. keys to success will be the depth of the third line. Currently Stein Nilsen, Yukikami, and Kwame Dakari; Nilsen and Dakari are the focal points of success. I like to call these two thunder and lightning. Nilsen's lightning speed leading them into the zone followed by Dakari's thunderous shot from between the circles that'll be terrorizing kids in net. This will be a duo to look out for. I wouldn't be surprised towards the start of the season to see the Kraken struggle a little only to find their sea legs and making a strong push for the cup in playoffs.

As a rookie, it's difficult to comment on the expectations of the upcoming season for the Anaheim Outlaws. Coming from across the pond with little knowledge of the league, I do know they are coming off a championship season. With that brings added pressure to perform out of the gate. There are many new faces in the locker room and they will be looking to the veterans that remain with the team for guidance. Not only on the ice, but off it as well. A couple vets being looked upon to do just that:

Rhys Pritchard, named the newest captain of the Outlaws. Being named the captain of any team is an honour and Pritchard is the right man for the job. His calm demeanor in the room will help keep the rookies focused, but he isn't afraid to hold players accountable. Just what the team will need this year.

Alex Petrenko, the last remaining veteran defenceman on the roster. It goes without saying how much his experience will help a young d-core. Paired with highly touted rookie defenceman, Emilia Bergman, Alex will be there to show her the ropes and develop into a elite defenceman.

Separa Borro, will look to be consistent when called on. Backing up a goalie like Strom Chamberlain may be viewed as no easy task, but it couldn't be a better opportunity to watch and practice with that caliber of goaltender every day.

Coming into this season, Carolina has had a lot of turn over, losing a lot of veteran players to the SMJHL. Last season we had many 3rd and 4th year players. This season we're looking at a roster full of rookies with only 1 player in his 3rd season.

Right off the bat who is expected to lead our squad is easy. Jimmy Wagner will be good and we need him to be so. A true #1 centre in this league and a leader on and off the ice. He sets the example to follow in terms of work ethic.

Next up, clearly, as an inexperienced team we need our boy between the pipes Frans Eller to stay sharp and help us steal some games.

Velveteen Dream is the next key member to the Kraken. Being able to chip in some offense will be sorely needed and he's got the talent to help us do so.

Lastly, however I'd also add that our rookie class in totality may be the most important piece of our team. We all need to do what we can do to improve and help this team take things to the next level. Without that, the 3 players mentioned above won't stand a chance. We need a true team effort.

Vancouver is positioned for a rebuilding year. There are a lot of rookies in key positions on the roster, which makes the season tough to predict. If the rookies come together well, Vancouver could very well make the postseason. If they underperform, it will be a very long season. The following three players’ results this season are going to have a huge impact on whether the team does well as a whole:

1. Sven Yxskaft – The shining star on a decimated defensive roster, Sven is in a unique position to help out rookie goaltender Cal Covid with his rebound weakness. When Sven has a good game, it should give the Whalers the shot in the arm they need to secure victories.

2. William Hartmann – The speedy left wing needs to find a way to produce and make up for some key losses in wing talent. He’ll be given ample opportunities, he needs to perform to give his team a chance.

3. Cal Covid – I hate to put myself in here but as the starting goalie, the team’s chances to win rest directly on Cal. If he can put together decent performances, the Whalers have a hope. If he shits the bed, might as well pack it all up.

After losing important players in the offseason, the Carolina Kraken will be looking to rebound in Season 53. While they’ve made a couple of free agent signings lately, their key players to watch right now will be the ones who are moving into the limelight after the departures that the team recently faced.

First up is Velveteen Dream, who has recently moved into the #1 center spot on the lineup after Carolina lost its entire top 6. The Dream is a prospect in the New Orleans Specters system, having been the 28th overall pick in the Season 52 draft. He’ll be looking to make his mark in his first full season playing center.

Next is Frans Eller. Eller was a rookie last year, but is quickly moving from backup to starter after last year’s starter, Mike Hroch, moved up to the SHL to play for the New England Wolfpack. Now the 6’9” Dane will be looking to guide the Kraken forward between the pipes. Carolina will be looking to rest Eller from time to time to make sure he doesn’t fatigue too quickly over the course of the season, but make no mistake - Eller will be very important to the team’s success this season and in the foreseeable future.

Finally, another player to watch will be team captain Jimmy Wagner. While the defense, particularly S53 2nd overall pick Ambacas Cuddles, absolutely deserves a mention, the loss of the team’s top 6 means much of the Kraken’s forward corps will be key to whether or not they achieve success. Wagner has handled the pressure of playing on the first line and wearing the C well thus far, leading the team with 7 points in 7 games.

Coming into this season the Newfoundland Berserks are poised to be one of the top teams in the SMJHL. They have a good mix of veteran send downs and promising rookies which will be curcial for the team’s success this season which will be highlighted below:

1. Right Wing - SLATT Potts: The captain of the Newfoundland Berserks is entering his third and likely final year in the juniors. I expect Potts to be one top point scorers in the league as he has an overall skill set that is far superior to most other players in the league. He should be a big part of Newfoundland’s offense this year.

2. Goalie - Cale Amundsen: This rookie goalie will have high expectations after being selected thirteenth overall. He has been given the starting reigns in net and will have to play up to his potential against older more experienced players in order to help the team be successful this year.

3. Defense - Jukka Timonen: Returning for his second season in the juniors Jukka is developing into a franchise defenseman for the Berserks and should see time on the team’s top pairing as well as important roles on the penalty kill and power play. He will be heavily relied on for the team success from the back end.

Many have predicted Carolina to sit at the bottom of the standings - with the most rookies in the league, this definitely isn't a stretch. However, regardless of the Kraken's playoff hopes, the Vets are on the spot for leading the 8+ rooks to keep in the game, and possibly make a late season run at a lower seed.

Firstly, the top forward on the team - Velveteen Dream - must quarterback this team to success and lead as an example. He is a seasoned vet, and the only player maxxed out to their junior potential. He must mentor rookie centre Bobby Bergen, as he will be awarded many minutes in his rookie campaign.

Secondly, Ambacas Cuddles. If Carolina has any strength, it may be their well-rounded defence. Cuddles will mentor future superstar Adam Friedland on the blueline - who knows, maybe these two will play on a pairing one day.

Third - Jimmy Wagner - this guy may be here for another year or two - When Mr.Dream gets the callup, Wagner may be "That" guy. The leadership torch will surely be passed to Wagner - I expect Wags to lead by example.

The Newfoundland Berserkers are looking forward to a strong season with high expectations. With prospects racking up TPE and a stacked frontline of already capped players, the Berserkers have a lot to look forward to and will look to depend on the following players:

Cale Admundsen - One of the goalies for the Berserkers has already had a highly impressive few games with the team at the start of the regular season, and will surely get his time in.

SLATT Potts - The captain of the Berserkers will look to be a strong, reliable locker room presence and is a player who knows how to get the most out of the team he leads.

Steve Harrington - One of the alternates leading under Potts, Steve is one of the capped out wingers who is certain to make a splash on the stat sheet every game, with his strong shooting ability and mind for playmaking.

Think this is going to be a surprisingly big year for the Armada. A lot of people have doubted our draft and roster before the season but pre season showed that we definitely are here to compete. Without further ado here are , in my opinion, the three biggest players that need to be successful for Armada's success.

Obviously captain Mitchell van der Heijden is going to have to continue his ridiculous pre season into the regular season. He is one of the highest TPE's in the league and in his probably last season in the juniors, he's going to want to bring the S53 championship to Anchorage.

I think 2nd line center Santtu Rasanen making a big improvement in his 2nd season will be a massive boost to the Armada. Having 2 dangerous lines is always a must for championship caliber teams.

For my 3rd player I'm picking Matt Sawful, the Armada's 2nd OA pick in the most recent draft. With many defensemen having left the team, having a big rookie year from our top draft pick would be a huge upgrade to our young defense core.

We are just about 10 games into the SMJHL Regular Season and the Newfoundland Berserkers are are sitting at second place in the East division with a record of 6-2-1. The team is looking phenomenal so far but if they want to keep this pace they are going to need the strong performers to keep it up. Here are the top three players who will lead Newfoundland in their post-season push.

Ryuuji Minamino - Newfoundland's leading scorer has been the reason that the offense has been lights out so far. Minamino is leading the team with 6 goals so far this season and on this pace so far, it's hard to believe he won't keep it up. With over 30 shots this season and a 18.25 shooting percentage, expect the puck to keep finding the back of the net.

Jukka Timonen - Juke is definitely Newfoundland's top defender. Dominating at both ends of the ice with three goals, six points and a whopping +8, he will be expected to continue to lead the way for the rest of the season. Newfoundland's new defenders are struggling with the pairing of Jack Klompus and PBJ Souppan being a -8/-9 pairing, maybe Juke will be able to guide the future core pairing.

Cale Amundsen - Possibly the biggest surprise of the season is the dominate performance in the crease that they are seeing. Cale is tied for a league leading two shutouts and constantly puts on strong performances. He has a game rating average of 75 and is someone who can be trusted to get the Berserkers out of some tough spots.

For the next season there are a number of players who are going to be key pieces for the Newfoundland Berserkers’ goal of being successful. The first player who is important towards this mean is Finnish left defenceman Tinke Jutila, while of smaller stature he is a key defensive piece who has great positioning and reading of the game, while not the best offensively he makes up for it with his ability to hold up the puck with his handling ability. The next piece of the puzzle is American right winger Red Arrow a player who lives up with to his name with blistering speed and the ability to get open in seemingly impossible situations, while not having great range on his shooting he makes up for in the way in which his shots are so accurate. Finally the last player to be discussed is the Ukrainian Centre Mats Marner who improves the small core of centers that the team has dramatically as not only has he got the ability to pass the puck around and read the game offensively he is also great on the defensive side of the game as well being aware of that side of the game as well as being able to make hits and stop shots making him a great two way player.
