These are our power rankings.

16: Tampa Bay Barracuda: Barracuda

A lot could be said about how Tampa Bay’s preseason has been. One thing that has to be said is that their lack of depth kills them. Duke Duckworth, Michale Fitted,Ender Zavala, James Rolain, and Bernard Freeman are all above 7.5 GA/60, while all of them are under 2 GF/60. Their top end players do score goals though, which is better than what Toronto can say, but they keep on getting outscored by 4 goals per game. They are the 2nd lowest Goals as a team though, so they cant carry the team. As a team they almost reach 2500 CA, while only 1200 CF. Their goalie in Benjamin Blue has been playing good with the hand he has been dealt, but the defense is not there for Tampa Bay.

15: Texas Renegades: Renegades
Texas has gottan better as the preseason went on, but still lacked a lot of things. They had the worst CA of a team in the SHL, and 14th most CF, and they had the 3rd lowest goals scored. One thing that is doing well for them is the physical side, as Gotze and Kvalhiem have above 20 hits. They also have Harvey Danger and Noah Brusky with over 20 Shots blocked. So there are building blocks there for Texas. Also they got decent goaltending by Patrick Niederreiter this preseason.

14: Toronto North Stars: Stars
Harry Carpet will have a very sore back at the end of the season with the amount he will have to carry Toronto their couple wins. Having the lowest goal scored, in both of their wins Carpet kept the goals allowed to 1, which allowed them to win. Having the worst Corsi For in the SHL, they are expecting to tank this season, they do have some good players in Lane, Kandinsky, and Kuster that is looking to be some up and coming performers for them.

13: West Kendall Platoon: Platoon
From the bottom teams, the Platoon are probably the best one, while having a lot of close games, they also had a lot of goals scored(better than half of the teams). Though that being said they very good Power play were a major part of that. With the Corsi side, they were slightly below average on both, so they are playing decently well for the position they are in. One weakness for them is their goalies, Beaujeaux Biscuit and Luca Del Vecchio  who have put sub-par GAA and Del Vecchio having very bad SV% as well. On the bright side they had the league leader in points in Nicholas Klaus with 15 points, and Petr Mikulak with 8 points behind him. They also have 8 players over 10 hits.

11: Minnesota Chiefs: Chiefs
Minnesota is looking to be a decent team this season, but with some bad underlying numbers. They have the overall lowest rating team, and a concerning high percentage of forwards with overall ratings at or below 12. They have one of the worst overall corsi in the SHL  as well as one of the lowest Goals scored in 5v5. Defensemen Seger and Moore seemed to be the best skaters on the team, but goalieTegernako was the real star. 2nd in save percentage, 1st in GSAA by a mile, and 4th in goals against despite the teams 4th worse corsi against. So we will have to see with the bigger picture on how they perform.

11: Winnipeg Jets: Jets
WPG had an up and down preseason, winning all their victories by at least 3 goals, and losing all of their defeats by at least 2. They actually sported just under average team corsi, and were even right up there with New Orleans. Their wins did all come from teams ranked lower than them here, but you can't fault them for doing what they were supposed to do against weaker teams. They didn't score at a great rate, and their powerplay was one of the worst in the league. Goku Muerto had one of the best game ratings in the league, and Slip McScruff was the grittiest player all preseason, but their best showing might have been out of goaltender Leblanc, who had the 5th best SV%, and 4th best GSAA.

10: San Francisco Pride: pride
San Francisco had an interesting preseason, having some blowout losses to WKP and Buffalo, while playing well against teams like Calgary, and New Orleans to an extent, they faced some tough opponents. They did in the end have a good team corsi, but slightly struggled to score goals with it. Looking at their team ratings are slightly bizarre. They had one of the lowest defensive rankings, but their actual defensive core has a lot of highly ranked players. So maybe their builds are offensive or physically focused more than defensively? Speaking of defense, Charlie Schiek and Ray Bork played very well in the preseason, and they got above league average golding out of Nadeau.

8: Buffalo Stampede: Stampede
Slightly tough outting for Buffalo in this preseason. They didn't score a tremendous amount of goals, and seemed to struggle on the powerplay. They have the second highest corsi for, but just slightly above average corsi against. They have a very highly defensive and physical team, and two of the elite talents in the league between Passamus and Scoop. They trotted out the lowest rated goalie tandem in the preseason, however despite that, Robinson played well above average, probably thanks to their great defense and good offense. A well rounded team with below average TPE goalie. Luckily they do have a young goalie coming up, so we will have to see in a couple seasons how that goes.

8: New Orleans Specters: Specters
Faced against a lot of tough opponents(MAN x2, SFP x2, CHI and LAP) while only facing against 1 of the "weaker teams" in TOR) Their wins were close and could have gone either way, which can be shown in their team corsi, they were below team average in both Corsi for and Corsi against for the team.  They scored a good amount, but their defense allowed the game to be closer than they probably want. They have a a mix of high rated players and lower rated depth, however their team build is pretty balanced. Lil' Manius was all over the preseason,  a lot of assists, highest relative corsi(comparing to their team), had a positive Takeway vs Giveaways, all while laying the body for 19 hits(and only 2 PIM). For goalies, Cain struggled in the preseason, but with tough opponents it can be expected.

7: Calgary Dragons: Dragons
Calgary seemed synonymous to MAN this preseason. Both extremely high rated teams that I expect to perform even better during the regular season. CGY has a worse defensive core, but the highest rated offensive stats in the league. They were in the elite bubble of team corsi, and Vilde was one of the best goaltenders in the preseason. A concern for them might be that their elite offense put up a terrible showing in even strength goals, only higher than some of the teams that are consensus bottom 5. Could be unlucky from the sample size, and that if they continue to play like this then the goals will come.

6: Manhattan Rage: Rage
As one of the most balanced and skilled teams in the league, MAN at 6th is actually an underperformance, but not a concern since the preseason sims were going well until the last double header. MAN was tied for 3rd in goals scored, had a strong corsi ratio, and all their losses (with their starting goalie) were kept to very close games. One thing that they will need to work on is their power play, and Larson did not play the best this preseason. They have a great group of defenseman that can help out on the scoresheet, and will be looking to play strong this season to defend their title.

4: Chicago Syndicate: syndicate
They're still likely to be a better than average team. They're offensively focused, throwing an above average amount of shots and goals on net, but weren't great defensively, which might have even been an overperformance since they have one of the lowest league defensive ratings. They have 2 of the top 10 point scorers from the season, but a below average goalie, so they'll make for some fun games to watch, and some high scoring games(see 10-7 win over NOLA). Their biggest weakness would be defense, and I think Soonika will turn it around. But they definitely looks like a very offensive team.

4: Los Angeles Panthers: Panthers
I feel like LA had a quiet, underrated preseason. A great team corsi, got amazing goaltending, and have probably the most balanced teams builds in the league. With no one really knowing how to predict FHM, that could benefit them. They finished tied for 5th in points, with a pretty balanced strength of schedule.

3: Hamilton Steelhawks: Steelhawks
Realistically probably performed the 'best' in the preseason as a team, but have to knock points from them for facing an incredibly easy schedule(MIN x2,  TEX, TBB, and to a lesser extent WPG). However, they got the job done that they were supposed to, finished high in scoring despite a lower PDO, and ran away with the lead in corsi, both team and as individuals (which go in hand). It will be an interesting test to see if they can carry this over into the regular season, since overall they don't have as many highly rated players as some of the teams below them. Also to mention having a very good goalie in Kryyst, he should be performing better in terms of SV% soon once the sample size gets bigger.

2: New England Wolfpack: Wolfpack
Finished tied for 1st with the most points in preseason, but get the edge over some of the other teams in terms of strength of schedule. They had to face EDM, BUF, CGY, and CHI. They also had some of their most highest scoring games against teams like Texas and Toronto though. They had High corsi, PDO, goal differential, and most goals scored in the preseason, with the help of a very good power play. They have good depth and a lot of individuals who stood out in the preseason including Dick Clapper, Ola Wagstrom, and Eko Van Otter. I think their one real weakness would be goalie, as it is not as highly rated as teams around them, but their forwards should be good enough to soften that blow.

1: Edmonton Blizzard: Blizzard
Edmonton finished as one of the top teams in the preseason, and had a much harder schedule to do so. NEW slightly edged them over in most categories, finishing with better coris, PDO, and goal differential, however Edmonton's performance against a bit more tougher teams, a better goalie in tommy tuck, made them the #1 pick in terms of our group.  Edmonton had some great players on their team, with some great underlying numbers help, we felt like Edmonton slightly edged New England out of the #1 spot.

These first two graphs simply show each team’s place in the standings after each game they played. The first graph shows the cumulative preseason points, while the second graph shows how far ahead/behind a team is relative to the league average points per game

More Team Graphs

The boxplots show 'bulked' data for each team in the corresponding stat on the y axis. (The only stat that's not intuitive is that average rating refers to each player's FHM attribute ratings averaged into one value). The boxplots encapsulate all the player's for each team and group them into one object. Each dot in the boxplot (or outliers outside of them) represent a player on the team, and what value they performed at for the specific stat. The box captures the 25%-75% range of all player data, the 'whiskers' extend to show the extreme players, and any dots outside are outlier points (outliers really mean nothing in this scenario, the point isn't for statistics as much as just visualizing the range of each team). The line in the middle of each box represents the median value for each Team, broken down by position. The horizontal dotted lines represent the league average value for the stat in question for each forwards and D. Basically, we can think of the boxplots as the distribution or range for each team and position for whatever stat we're looking at

These two graphs depict how highly rated each team is in certain categories compared to the rest of the league. These ratings aren’t based on TPE purely, but rather how each player spent their points and upgraded each ability, basically their player build. The first graph, the polar chart, shows how highly rated each team is on average in the 4 skater categories on the player builder, as well as average goalie ratings from their builds.

Agreed, it ended up being such a simple change but made the graphs make so much more sense, thanks for pointing it out! HAM absolutely crushed it in corsi team-wide.

we honeslty think its just bad matchups and chicago playing a full enforcer lineup when we played them. it for sure is correctly represented in the rankings i think, maybe could have dropped us a bit further down because i think good teams will roll the bad ones, but this is a great project yall are taking up.
