S52 Awards Ballot
#1

Hey SHL, I'm back for another season of awards ballots. I'm not gonna get into all the write ups and extra details because I'm really busy with school right now but I figured I should at least drop my nominations like always.

Ron Mexico Award (League MVP)
1. @RomanesEuntDomus Philipp Winter Panthers  - Winter had a standout season in S52 with a league leading 56 points, coming in at 12 points more than his next teammate as he led the Panthers into the playoffs. Winter also had a strong all around game this season putting up 128 hits, 187 shots, 11 blocked shots, and over 250 minutes of special teams time making him absolutely vital to LAP at all times. His underlying stats certainly complement this performance as he had a 55.58% CF%, and 72.7% IPP.

2. @Tomasnz Peter Larson Rage  - Larson was brilliant in Manhattan's crease this season with a league leading 0.921sv%, an insane 22.31 GSAA, 5 shutouts, more than double the next best goalie, and 24 wins as he backstopped Manhattan to a first place finish in the Atlantic division.

3. @Kylrad Daniel Smeb syndicate  - Smeb was a huge part of Chicago's success this season, putting up 54 points and an astounding +21 to go along with 19 blocked shots, and over 270 minutes of special teams time. He posted a 52.% FO% making him a key part of Chicago's ability to gain possession of the puck in key parts of the game and on top of his great numbers, he finished with an average of 25.45 minutes per game making it clear that Smeb was integral to Chicago's 3rd place finish in the Eastern Conference.

John McBride Award (Best Goaltender)
1. @Tomasnz Peter Larson Rage  - There's not much to be said here that wasn't already said in the Mexico nomination, he led the league in several important categories with a 0.921sv%, 5 shutouts, and 22.31 GSAA. His 65.12% quality start percentage was second only to Tibuk Soonika for goalies with at least 30 starts and his 24 wins were good enough for 4th in the league.

2. @chetib Tibuk Soonika syndicate  - Soonika's solid season saw him backstop the Syndicate to yet another 3rd placed finish in the Eastern Conference as he put up a 0.916sv% to go along with a shutout, 1497 saves, 15.84 GSAA, and a league leading 65.91% QS%.

3. @Carpy48 Harry Carpet Stars  - Toronto may not have made the playoffs but they would've been a heck of a lot worse had it not been for Harry Carpet's 0.915sv% and his league leading 1604 saves to go along with 2 shutouts, 13.35 GSAA and a 63.64% QS%.

Methodology: Take cutoff of top 5 in Sv%, compare GSAA, GPS, SO, QS%, Shots faced, GAA, Wins in that order of importance.

Scott Stevens Award (Best Defenceman)
1. @notorioustig Tig Murphy Steelhawks  - Murphy had 46 points which was good enough for 2nd among defensemen, he also had a 54.51 CF%, 883 zone entries, 78 hits, 129 shots, 84 blocks, 1.087 STL/TO ratio, and over 220 special teams minutes, making him the perfect all around defenseman.

2. @jRuutu Ensio Kalju Wolfpack  - Kalju came a little lower in points than other defensemen with 41 but stood out more in supporting stats with a 55.02 CF% and 2.53 RelCF%, a 1.18 STL/TO ratio, 693 zone entries, 79 hits, 104 shots, 59 blocks and 250 special teams minutes for New England this season as he stood out in a talented blue line.

3. @Grapehead Charlie Schieck pride  - Another player to stand out in a talented backend, Schieck led all defensemen in scoring with 48 points but his possession stats hurt him, just barely making the cut with a 50.63 CF% after sporting a negative RelCF%, he had a well rounded season with 736 zone entries, a 1.16 STL/TO ratio, 48 hits, 93 shots, 69 blocks, and over 240 special teams minutes.

Methodology: Take cutoff of top 10 in D scoring, cut any player with CF% < 50% *and* RelCF% < 0, compare zone entries, hits, shots, blocks, STL/TO ratio, special team minutes in that order of importance.

Ryan Jesster Award (Best Rookie)
1. @Rich Bobby Lane Stars  - Bobby Lane's historic rookie season comes second only to his teammate Mika Kandinsky's rookie season with his 46 points putting him 2nd in all time rookie scoring. Lane had all around contributions for Toronto adding 88 hits, 208 shots, and 10 blocks to his totals. His underlying stats show just how valuable he was to the North Stars this season with his 5.4% CF% and 80.7% IPP making it very clear that he carried his team as a rookie.

2. @KlusteR Markus Tegernako Chiefs  - Had it not been for Lane's insane rookie season, Tege could've been the favourite to take home this award posting a 0.910sv% with 2 shutouts and 1424 saves on a bottom feeding Minnesota team. He also had an impressive 6.16 GSAA and 52.27% QS%.

3. @rangersbruinslightning Jake Primeau Renegades  - Jake Primeau was one of the few bright spots for Texas this season with his 35 points being good enough for 3rd on the team, Primeau was a key player for the renegades playing over 250 minutes of special teams. He also had a ridiculous 7.43% RelCF% meaning Texas was definitely a much better team with him on the ice.

Jeff Dar Award (Best Two-Way Forward)
1. @Boomcheck Cameron Carter II syndicate  - This should be an easy win for CC2 who may have had a borderline MVP season, he finished with one of the highest single season hit totals of all time with 255 while putting up 51 points, 11 blocks, 111 minutes on the penalty kill, and a 51.78% CF%.

2. @karey Viktor Marius Stampede  - The former Dar winner had another Dar like season in S52 putting up 46 points while racking up 227 hits and blocking an incredible 20 shots. Marius also played 96 minutes on the penalty kill for Buffalo and had a 55.42% CF%.

3. @raymond3000 Andreas Kvalheim Renegades  - The young Texas power forward had a great season with 214 hits and 51 points to go along with 14 blocked shots and an astounding 6.92% RelCF%, Kvalheim could've finished 2nd or even mounted a challenge for first had it not been for the fact that he didn't play at all on the penalty kill.

Methodology: Take cutoff of top 10 hitters for forwards, points, blocks, pkm, cf/relcf% in that order of importance.

Bojo Biscuit Award (Best Defensive Defenseman)
1. @MCP_ Joln DuBolk Barracuda  - DuBolk led the league in blocked shots with 101, making him the only player with triple digit blocks, he also had 128 hits, 942 steals, and 120 penalty kill minutes, making him the clear favourite for the award.

2. @SDCore Corey Kennedy syndicate  - Kennedy was a defensive stalwart for Chicago this season, blocking 85 shots and adding an impressive 938 steals to go along with his 90 hits and 108 penalty kill minutes.

3. @hhh81 Cassius Darrow Stampede - Darrow had somewhat of a breakout season after not only putting up impressive point totals but becoming a strong defensive player for the Stampede with 81 blocks and 842 steals, Darrow may not be the physical type of defenseman but his 132 penalty kill minutes show that he's extremely important defensively nonetheless.

Methodology: Take cutoff of top 10 shots blocked, then compare steals, hits and penalty kill minutes among remaining players in that order of importance.

Aidan Richan Award (Most Improved Player)
1.  @CanadianDuck Steven Moyer pride - The runaway favourite for the Richan, Moyer finished 2nd in the league in scoring with 55 points, surpassing his previous career high of 33 by a long shot on his way to establishing himself as one of the league's elite forwards as he helped lead San Francisco to a strong season.

2.  @ztevans Nikolai Evans Barracuda  - Evans took advantage of an increased role on a week Barracuda squad and had a breakout posting 43 points, 20 more than his career high while adding 88 blocks and almost 300 special teams minutes in a season that saw him go from average depth defender to Stevens material.

3.  @Trautner Michael Scarn Stampede - Long buried on the 3rd line of a loaded Buffalo offense, Scarn finally got his time to shine in S52 as he benefitted from his increased role by putting up 45 points, surpassing his previous career high of 30 and establishing himself as a key piece in an already loaded Stampede forward group.

Lance Uppercut Award (Best General Manager)
1. @Grapehead & @DaftRaincloud San Francisco Pride pride  - On top of their big ticket item acquisition of Piotr Czerkawski, the Pride's management's seasons of building finally came to fruition in S52, seeing them take home the President's trophy, they also had an excellent S52 draft and made an important move to shore up their D depth by acquiring Tokek Takshak.

2. @Wasty & @JT3 Los Angeles Panthers Panthers  - LA's management didn't hold back this off season with some aggressive moves to add 3 big time stars to their rosters; GOD McZehrl, Troy Mclure III, and Mikhail Lokitonov. Their hard work paid off as they saw the group they assembled claim a playoff spot despite being in a difficult division.

3. @"ThatDamnMcJesus" & @Waters Hamilton Steelhawks Steelhawks - After winning the Challenge Cup, Hamilton's management didn't sit on their hands and did what they could to try and ensure a repeat, adding Knute Knurtsson and Tampa Bay Barracuda superstar Flacko Lagerfield on their way to a 1st place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Joe McKeil Award (Best Coach)
1. @Grapehead & @DaftRaincloud San Francisco Pride pride  - After several seasons of poor coaching saw them massively underperform, including a disaster S51 where they ended up with the 1st overall pick despite having one of the league's best teams, San Francisco finally got it right this season in the coaching department as their coach managed to bring together the team's new pieces to lead them to a President's Trophy win.

2. @ml002 & @UrsinZ Toronto North Stars Stars  - Probably the complete opposite of San Francisco, Toronto has been blessed with exceptional coaching lately and this season was no different as a mix of good coaching and Harry Carpet saw them finish in a playoff spot in what was yet another season of over performing for the rebuilding North Stars.

3.  @Kylrad Chicago Syndicate syndicate - Tasked with getting a team without any mega stars in a playoff spot from the league's most brutal division, Chicago's coaches were up to the challenge as they led Chicago to 63 points, good enough for 3rd in the league, and good enough to see them have a better season than some teams like Buffalo who had much bigger stars in the lineup.

Damian Littleton Award (Most Dedicated Member)
1. @golden_apricot - With Teddy getting the Ono, I'm not sure anyone comes close to apricot for the Littleton this season, he led the way on the switch to FHM for the juniors, doing most of (all?) the FHM file work and testing for the SMJHL, none of this would be possible without his contributions.

2. @Kalakar - I know we said we were going to stop with the Littleton noms for the simmers because they're "just doing their jobs" but Kal did way more than just his job this season, simming for both the SMJHL, and IIHF, while keeping a side league for the SMJHL GMs, and manually looking through every J team's roster to find players with mistakes in their builds when he found out the updaters were having problems.

3. @SDCore - Another member who has worked tirelessly on the FHM switch, Corey spent the season juggling the testing and logistical work of the FHM switch while balancing the responsibilities of the SHL commissioner and so even though he won the Littleton last season he deserves the recognition for it again this season.

Just a little side note for this one, not putting Teddy in my nominations doesn't mean that I don't think he deserves it, he obviously does but with so many people deserving of some recognition this season I think it was right to spread out the recognition and show some love to all the people who work hard to make this league what it is. We wouldn't have a lot of the great things that we have here without Teddy including the FHM switch and he was rightfully honoured with the Onoprienko trophy for that this season. There might be some people who think he should've received both, that's your opinion and a valid one, unfortunately for you I don't care enough about your opinion to hear your pointless comments about it. I don't wanna diminish any of the amazing work Teddy does for the site at all, had we not agreed to give him the Ono he'd obviously be in here.

Anton Razov Trophy (Playoff MVP)
1. @Tomasnz Peter Larson Rage  - This is a no brainer as Larson's playoff performance can be described as nothing short of brilliant, putting up an astounding 0.932sv% and 2 shutouts in 19 games as the league's best regular season goaltender continued his domination in the playoffs, leading Manhattan to a Challenge Cup title.

2. @"luketd" Luke Thomason Rage  - Thomason led the way for the Cup winners putting up 22 points in 19 games and playing over 100 minutes of special teams in what can only be described as en excellent playoff campaign for the veteran forward.

3. @Tomen Alexander Selich Stampede  - Had Buffalo made the finals, we'd probably be talking Razov winner but Selich's ridiculous post season puts him in the unusual position of being a Razov worthy nominee without playing a single game in the Challenge Cup finals, his 25 points in 15 games was not only a ridiculous scoring rate, it was also the highest amount of points in the league despite not playing the final round. Selich's brilliant postseason was a key in helping Buffalo send the defending champs packing.
