From Dates:
2019-10-04 to 2019-10-26
(3/30/20 to 4/4/20)

Here at the Simulation Hockey Network, we will be bringing you our weekly 3 star standouts, along with the weekly team power rankings (most recent version here). These are the players that our committee selected as not only putting up some of the best stat lines for the first week of the S53 SHL season, but also players that have been a key part of their team’s success. Without further ado, here are the 3 SHL stars of the week (thanks as always to @sve7en for the graphic).

Wolfpack Wolfpack Wolfpack  1st Star: Ola Wagstrom (NEW)  Wolfpack Wolfpack Wolfpack
| 16G-8A-24P | +14 |
It won’t come as a surprise to many of you that the phenom out of New England, who was very often the first pick in fantasy pools, lit it up in the first week of the season. With an astounding 16 goals in just 12 games played, Wagstrom also tacked on 8 assists. That 2 points per game pace finds him in the league lead, 2 points ahead of teammate Slap McShotty. Wagstrom is all over the league leaderboards, and is currently top 10 for forwards in: goals, points, game rating, corsi and +/-. Wagstrom’s potent offensive ability has propelled the Wolfpack to 1st in the Eastern conference, as well as number 1 in the SHN’s weekly power ranking.

Specters Specters  2nd Star: Sebastien Primeau (NOL)  Specters Specters
| 4-3 | 1.84 GAA | .94 SV% |
Despite just the 4-3 record, Primeau has been nearly impossible to score on to start the season. He’s posted an incredible 1.84 goals against average along with a .940 save percentage, good for 2nd and 1st in the league respectively for goalies with 3 or more games played. Additionally, Primeau is 1st in the league in goals saved above average (GSAA), an advanced stat that more or less determines how many goals a goalie has saved their team by playing better than the league average goalie. What makes his numbers even more impressive is that NOL has been playing very high tempo games, so Primeau’s numbers aren’t inflated by a defensive system in place, and he’s come away with this great stat line while facing just under 31 shots per game.

pride  3rd Star: Charlie Schieck (SFP)  pride
| 5G-13A-18P | +15 |
It’s just a coincidence that the 3 stars are a forward, goalie, and now a defenseman, because Schieck deserved the 3rd star designation regardless. At a 1.38 points per game pace as a defenseman, he’s tied for 6th in the league in points, and is first among defenseman with a 5 point lead just 13 games into the season. Similar to Wagstrom, Schieck finds himself top 10 amongst defenseman in: goals, assists, points, corsi, relative corsi, +/-, and PDO. San Francisco currently has a league leading 23 points, and Schieck’s ability to anchor the blue line and contribute offensively plays a big part of that. Despite SFP’s league lead in points, Schieck is still 3rd in the league in relative corsi, meaning that him and fellow SFP defenseman Ray Bork are key factors in actually driving play for the team, and are stand out reasons that the Pride maintain the first place position.
