GAME SUMMARY
The struggling Newfoundland Berserkers find an opportunity to get some momentum back with a game against the Carolina Kraken. Carolina find themselves at he bottom of the East division but may be able to steal this game if the Berserkers fail to figure out what has been holding them back from the likes of Detroit and St. Louis.

First Period
The 14-15-3 Newfoundland team gets off to a rough start, much like many of their first periods over the season. The more-aggressive Carolina squad and the rocking Charlotte crowd seems to get to the heads of the young Berserkers. Newfoundland finds themselves with an early powerplay opportunity (it would be the only one for the game!) but are unable to convert. Back on the ice with full strength, Carolina controls the puck for a few minutes before finally finding the back of the net. Linus Grimstad makes a perfect cross-crease pass to Michael Lee who gets his third of the season under Cale Amundsen's arm. The rest of the period would go on with the physical play of Carolina dominating the Berserkers who would barely manage to keep this game 1-0.

Second Period
It seems the intermission talk from Coach did not help the young guns whatsoever. Newfoundland come to the ice looking weak and are quickly out-paced by Carolina once again. Despite the physical play of Carolina, their players manage to stay out of the box and are easily controlling the offense. This becomes even more apparent when the Kraken get another tally. Much like the first play, Ambacas Cuddles breaks into the Newfoundland zone and makes a quick pass to Lee. Lee is quick to dish it across to Stein Nilsen and the pass gets right by a slow Jack Klompus. Amundsen doesn't have time to get across and the puck meets the back of the net for the second time. Newfoundland calls an early timeout after this and it seems the Coach barks at his team to be more physical. This spells penalty trouble for Newfoundland as they take three minor penalties to close off the period. Thankfully they manage to kill all the penalties and head into the deciding period trailing 2-0.

Third Period
The third did not see much change from the rest of the game. Carolina continued their physical play and Newfoundland was struggling to get a response going. Thanks to the stellar play from Cale, the Berserkers were able to turn things around in the middle of the third. On a nice break Patric Twist fires a quick shot on the Carolina goalie. A rebound bounces away right to the stick of Guy LeGrande who makes no mistakes and sends home the first Newfoundland tally of the game. The crowd quieted down from here on, nervous that Newfoundland could make a comeback. It wasn't meant to be as the physical Kraken continue to knock the puck loose, leading to no further chances from Newfoundland. This one ends with Carolina scoring a massive upset victory over Newfoundland 2-1.

FINAL SCORE:  Kraken 2-1

THREE STAR REPORT

Third Star -- NL Patric Twist -- 1 assist
Third star honours go to the Berserker's Patric Twist who got he preliminary assist on the one goal of the game for his team. Despite Carolina dominating majority of this one, Twist ends the game with a solid 68 offensive game rating, one of the best for his team.

Second Star -- NL Cale Amundsen -- 40 saves, .952%
One thing is for sure, this could have been a lot worse for Newfoundland if it wasn't for the stellar play of their goalie. Cale has been the MVP for Newfoundland this season and this game is a fine example for that argument. It is an absolute shame that Cale did not get the all-star honours but one could argue that Cale may be up for goalie of the year at the end of the season.

First Star -- CAR Michael Lee - 1 goal, 1 assist
Normally you don't see a defenseman leading the offense for their team, but that was the case tonight. From dominating defensively with some big hits and takeaways to sneaking past he opposition in the offensive zone, Lee was doing it all tonight. The Kraken saw an A+ performance from this player and they will be hoping to see more of this for the rest of the season.[/b][/b]

1. Cale Amundsen puts his team on his back for the win
Amundsen was absolutely incredible against the Carolina Kraken putting up an impressive .952 save percentage and forty saves along with only allowing one goal in the Berserkers two to one win. He was able to completely shut down the Kraken’s offense and was surprised he was not named the first star in this game. This stellar goaltending performance is not a rarity as Cale has consistently put up big numbers in net this season as a rookie goaltender and helped Newfoundland win games they had no business winning.  If Cale continues at this pace he should be heavily considered for the goaltender of the year and rookie of the year awards.

2. Carolina Kraken physically intimidated the Newfoundland Berserkers all game long

Right from the drop of the puck the Kraken set the tone for the game with their physical play, almost tripling the Berserks hit totals in the end with their twenty five hits to Newfoundland’s eight. The Kraken’s physical play got the Berserkers frustrated early on and throughout the game, leading to some penalty trouble for Newfoundland. Carolina’s physical play also limited the Berserkers offense and it made difficult for them to generate a lot of offensive zone scoring chances. In the end however, it was not enough as the Berserkers were able to pull off the win.

3. The Newfoundland Berserkers dominated the faceoff circle
A big part about gaining possession of the puck starts with winning face-offs and the Newfoundland Berserkers did a lot of that this game with twenty five faceoff wins to seventeen for the Kraken. This allowed for the Berserkers to dictate the pace of play and keep control of more puck possession throughout the game. The top two centers for the team, Matthew Forrester and Guy LeGrande, led the way in the face-off dot winning nine and seven draws respectively. This allowed for the skilled elite wingers of the Berserkers to have more opportunities to make a play with the puck on their sticks.

Rotti's Roundup

A New-Foundland Identity
These Berserkers are on a non-stop roller coaster ride this season. Winning games they should lose, and losing games they should win. Tonight was no exception to their wonky ride, as they drop a very winnable game against the Kraken. Most of their wins have been on the back of the goaltending, and their offense just can't seem to mesh like a team should be at this point of the season. Is it time to panic? of course not. Time to be worried? That could be closer to the situation. The Newfies need to figure this thing out before the end of the season.

Kraken the back of the net
Thes Kraken just won't give up. If you aren't going to make the playoffs, might as well drag some teams down with you, right? The Kraken really threw a wrench into Newfoundland's wheels here, and even if it doesn't knock them down too much in the standings, it has a mental effect on a team. Going into a game confident and somehow losing is always a killer to a team's spirit, and tonight was no different. The Kraken may have a great team in the future, and with spirit like they have right now, they may have something special in a season or

Killa Cale
Man, you know when a player on the losing team ends up as the one to talk about post-game, they balled out. Kale Amundsen looked like an impenetrable wall for the Berserkers this game for 38 shots. A .952 save percentage is unbelievable, especially at this level. When your team is getting dominated physically like Newfoundland was tonight, it's tough to stand on your head in net. Kale had no issue doing that, putting up the performance he did was a heroic type effort, even if he ended up taking a loss. Cale joins the Rotti's ones to watch for the rest of the season, the first goalie to be added to the team.

Cale Amundsen
Cale Amundsen fighted till the end but it wasn't enough. Carolina Kraken won this game with 2:1 while Amundsen saved 40 of 42 Kraken teams shots. More than 95 percents saved. Sad to see them lose just because of Amundsens performance. He gave all his heart in this game but it's hard to win if team scores only one goal in sixty minutes which you have to play. Big props to this legend but I am really sad to see them not even getting one point in this game. At least Cale Amundsen got second star title but lets be honest - he would rather choose just to win not be first second or third star. it is how it is

Scoreless Bersks
Newfoundland Berserkers were scoreless two periods. They were trainling 2:0 after fourty played minutes. Only in the half of third period Berserkers found a way how to at least get one puck in to Krakens net but that is not enough. They lost this game with one goal deficit- 2:1. I think that scoreless first two periods was the biggest problem for them. If they would score faster they would find their game and maybe even take victory versus Kraken but now it is already too late. Kraken takes important two points and leaves Berserkers in shock phase

3 Stars

1st Star - Michael Lee (CAR) - 1 Goal - 1 Assist

- In what was a lower scoring affair Lee carried the kraken offense to the win. Taking part in both goals for his team in what seems like a cruise control win for the kraken in the advanced stats, went a long way to nabbing him the 1st star.

2nd Star - Cale Amundsen (NL) - 40 SV - .952%

- Putting up an effort that on most nights would have rewarded him with a win, Amundsen unfortunately would have to settle for a consolation prize of 2nd star after being peppered with shots in the 2-1 loss.

3rd Star - Patric Twist (NL) - 1 Assist

- What a twist as M Night Shamamamamalan would say in most cases, but this wasn't something that should come as a surprised to anyone after his performance in the unfortunate loss for the Berserkers.

Game Recap

A game of many tales is the best way to describe this one.

In what was a clinic of shots, hits, giveaways and face off losses for the Kraken, was made into a close contest for the Berserkers. New foundland isn't really light years ahead of the last place Kraken but still is standing a little more rounded than them on paper. The game was an interesting mix of high pressure for the Kraken and timely chances for the Bersekers. The game felt like one the Kraken deserved to win taking it all in, but the berserkers just sort of hovered and refused to go away. Like a playoff game where even with your team dominating you still sit there clenching hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. The late goal made things tense at the end, but the Kraken did hold on to take this in regulation and pick up 2 points.
