The TBB story as told through LOTR
#1
(This post was last modified: 06-19-2020, 12:42 PM by PremierBromanov.)

I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings and I know you are too. There are a lot of parallels between the Tampa Bay Barracuda and Lord of the Rings, real or imagined, and I am going to detail the story as best I can. The plot points should hopefully line up with our quest for the cup, and the destruction of the one ring being more or less a surrogate for that goal. Some of the timeline doesn't fit perfectly, so I've allowed myself some wiggle room.

Here are the cast and characters.

Bilbo Baggins (rip Ian Holms) - The old cuda guard

They've had their adventure already and they're leaving now. Theyve put it off for too long. However, upon leaving tampa bay and starting a new adventure, they've found they have been stretched thin, like butter over too much bread. In the end, they will go into the west never to be seen again. New adventures and new adventurers await.

Frodo Baggins - @Rankle James Ronlain

All S50 members of this team will be the main hobbits in the story of LOTR, because we embody the start of this epic story. Tampa Bay has not yet begun our quest to destroy the ring, we are perhaps not even to rivendell yet. We are merely the progenitors of this quest and we will have a part to play through the whole thing. We start with nothing but we will grow into a powerful fellowship. It is a humble part, and one that requires courage and endurance. Rankle embodies the nature of Frodo, being the one burdened with the ring. He is the first Barracuda drafted and so bears the part of seniority. He is quiet, humble, and courageous.

Samwise Gamgee - @fitted Michael Fitted

Fitted is represented by Sam, and only partially because his hair is red like a beacon of Minis Tirith. He too will have a big part to play in this quest, and arguably the most important in this whole story. Sam is not one for eloquent poetry, but often what he says is true in a way that is surprising, like a 10 year old making an innocent, yet profound observation of his surroundings. He is ever hopeful, ever positive, even in the face of great adversity. His plans include a return trip home. The quest isn't complete until he makes it back.

Pippin Took  - Me Tom Fiddler

Pippin is a trouble-maker to say the least. He recognizes the importance of this quest and yet they can't help but embody the spirit of what it means to be a hobbit. He are hopeful, even beyond logic, and always on the look out for a good time. He is also clumsy, foolish, and absent minded. He wants to be part of the important quest, to stand by their friends and protect one another, even without knowing exactly what that means. When this story began, Frodo and Sam had already begun their quest. But they ran into Merri and Pippin in Farmer Maggot's (@WannabeFinn) field and they joined the quest, not fully knowing the importance or the danger involved. He has a larger part to play later in the story as well, in a way only hobbits can. His words will get him in hot water and he will have to deal with the consequences.

Merri Brandybuck - @TomHanks Jacob Hamr

Like Pippin, Merri is a positive thinker who seeks to do good and have fun. He is the voice of reason between the duo and usually pays for Pippin's foolishness. Yet he remains a steadfast friend. He too will have a larger part to play. His power is lower than the rest of the fellowship, but he soldiers on nontheless, but his humility and courage will see him slay The Witch King just when you thought his part was over.

Gandalf The Grey - @MCP_ Jöörgüštrâäd DuBølk

MCP is represented by Gandalf, the old Wizard who has already played the part of one adventure already. He is the kickstarter to this whole quest. He discovered the ring with the hobbits and so sent them on their way. This is where our timelines are slightly mixed up. MCP's ejection from the GM role is the perfect parallel to Gandalf falling at Khazad Dum. For all the fellowship knows, he is fallen and is never coming back. But before his departure, he was the one steering the ship and demonstrated his ability to do great things. Will he return to the fellowship later in our story? Time will tell.

Denathor - @Ace Frans Eller

Every story needs a villain, and I know ace better than other GMs so he unfortunately gets to play the part of Denathor. Denathor is wise, perhaps one of the wisest in Middle Earth. It is said among the people that he can see into the future. However, Denathor sits upon a throne of lies (and smells of beef and cheese) and is merely a steward of Gondor, and not its rightful heir. Another will come to claim his throne and he will be reluctant to relinquish it. He has already sent his favored son Bomomir to claim the ring for Gondor. Perhaps his other son will find his way into this quest?

Boromir - @AndrewWarren13 Johannes Leitner

There is another in the fellowship who will depart from us early. Boromir is strong, courageous, and among the best warriors Gondor has to offer. He is loyal to his father, Denathor, and has been sent to Rivendell to claim the ring. Boromir has his heart set in the wrong direction, but he will see is folly before the end and recognize the return of the king. He will try to take the ring from the little ones, but a grisly end awaits. Still, Boromir is an important member of the party and losing him will be felt by all. He will redeem himself in the end. He may very well find himself to be Faramir in the coming seasons, assisting the hobbits in their quest.

Aragorn / Strider - @cpetrella Ambacas Cuddles

Due in part to his timing in joining the hobbits before anyone else and in part to his incredible skill and prowess, Aragorn is perfectly represented by trella. He is considered royalty and is the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor. Trella is too a form of Royalty, having GM'd in Carolina and leading his team to a cup. Carolina represents Aragorn's heritage. And now, the whole world wonders if Aragorn will truly retake his throne. Will the king return as general manager? Or will he try and fail to deliver the ring to mordor? Trella and Aragorn both lurk i the shadows, quiet and stolid, he speaks only when necessary and his words carry with them the weight and wisdom of a king. Every team needs a leader, this is probably it.

Legolas - @Rangerjase Zoltan Topalo

Every leader also needs strong support and nothing exemplifies both the talent of Legolas and the timing in our story like Zoltan. Just like Aragorn will find a larger part to play in this story, so too is Legolas chilling in Mirkwood until the fellowship requires him to meet in Rivendell. He is not yet part of the quest for the cup, but soon he will be and he will be a force to be reckoned with. His swift arrows will pock mark his enemies like so many pucks in the back of the net.  He sees far, and understands farther.

Gimli - @hockeyiscool Dwight Knight

Another strong support for the King, Gimli is solid as a rock and wise. His courage knows no bounds, and indeed his fear of being a coward is what drives him to action. He is prideful, as he should be, but will become humble as he finds new friends in the fellowship. The trio of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli is irreducible and each part leans on each other part. The king is nothing without his friends. And like Dwarves and Elves must feud, so too do Kraken and Falcons feud. But in the end, their differences will be put aside for the greater good of the fellowship.

Arwen - @peej2189 Panda Panico

A king also needs support in matters close to the heart. Behind every great man and woman is their spouse, and Arwen is better than most. Literally (that is, of literature) Arwen is a representation of Tolkien's wife, or rather a parallel to Luthien from the Silmarillion. Beren and Luthien are surrogates for Tolkien and his wife and Aragorn and Arwen parallel these surrogates. Thus, trella needs loving from a powerful elf. And Peej will meet the challenge. Arwen will not go into the west to fade into obscurity, but will remain with her King until his death.

King Theodin - @Matty7478 Matthew Forrester

Once we have wrested control of Matty from the evil influence of Grima Wormtongue (Newfoundland), he will be a great leader of men. Theodin is charismatic has great strength of character, yet will grieve like a man should: openly. His entrance into the story is also a little later, but he will play a great part in defeating Sarumon and rescuing Gondor.

Eowyn - @Jericson Elwulf Jericson

Eowyn is arguably the most courageous hero in this story. Her greatest fear is being caged, and she will do whatever is possible to prove herself a warrior worthy of a warriors death. She will enter the story later as well and will be instrumental in defeating The Witch King. She may not look like a powerhouse, but she plays a pivotal role in the quest for the cup. Unlike Eowyn, we shall not deny Jericson his time in the spotlight.

Eomer - @Wiad Ulrik Bergstrom

Similarly showing up in our story a little later, Eomer is a driving force in the Two Towers and the first of the Rohirrim to greet the fellowship and assist in their quest. While not as mighty as the rest of the fellowship, he still plays an instrumental part at Helms Deep and the rescue of gondor. Someday, he will also slaughter punks in the cubes and command the Bifrost for a time.

Gollum / Smeagol - @JSS Flacko Lagerfield / ???

There once was a hobbit who found the ring, hundreds if not thousands of years ago. Jss was part of the old guard of TB during their hay-day, and like gollum he covets the cup/ring. Someday he may return and seek to take the ring to mordor. Chances are pretty good given the amount of picks TBB has in the future. He came upon this quest as one player, but he may become another soon? He wants to be good, but even more he wants the ring and will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal, even betray his new friends.
