S54 SMJHL PT #6 - MVPs
#31

The best line in the smjhl this season would have to be my line and how well we all played together. Firstly the center of the line Trey Nets who was playing as a counterattacking center was always ready to jump on the puck and get down ice quick and get some pucks in the net. Nets finished the season with 10 goals and 7 assists with a plus minus or +6 with only 10 Penalty minutes all around a great center and line mate. At right wing on the line we had Pavel Kharlamov playing Setup Man mostly, always looking to pass the puck and set up shots on net finishing the season with only 4 goals but 10 assists and a plus minus of -1 and with 20 penalty minutes double what Nets had. To Finish the line you had myself Young Logo, with only 4 goals i had 17 assists and a plus minus of +5 and for a rookie i think this is a great start of what i can do in the league. I finished the season with 10 penalty minutes and would like to drop it too 0. So by far this is my favorite line rightnow and were just ready for next season to get more pucks on net.

I enjoyed a lot playing with Jesse Seppanen and Victor Ball on my wings. It helped me a lot to be able to play with another Finn, and together with Victor we mesh really well on and off the ice. We all are good with the puck, and unlike me, Jesse and Victor are also great shooters. We all also top 10 in rookie forward scoring, me having 7-14-21, Jesse 9-12-21 and Victor 8-10-18. However, despite solid offensive numbers, it can be seen from the stats that we have a lot of things to improve, especially on the defensive side of things. Having 40 % CF% is not a good look.
I really look forward to next season, as we will all be one year older and stronger than this year. With Roach leaving us, there will be a huge hole to fill offensively, so there’s a lot of motivation for our line to improve over the offseason. We need to be more reliable but also to score a lot more goals.

A last-minute add to the St. Louis Scarecrows roster was the two-way, pass-first right winger, Brandt Underton. When Blitz reached out to Underton to ask if he would be willing to suit up for the Crows, it came with a bit of a stipulation. Welcoming him to the team would require him to play out of position and suit up as a defenseman. Luckily for the Crows, Underton was more than willing to accommodate. Throughout my rookie season, I had the privileged to play alongside several D-partners, but the player who I shared the most success with was also the one I played with the longest. Brandt and I did our best to anchor the Scarecrows third D-pairing through strong skating and puck-possession skills. As the season progressed, we solidified ourselves as a consistent pairing on the team and were rewarded with more ice time. We both ended the season averaging 15 minutes or more a game. Underton was rewarded for his patience and hard work after the trade deadline. After St. Louis signed defenseman DFA, Teylora Petrov, Underton was put back to his natural position of right wing for our playoff push, and stayed there during the playoffs.

As Big Terry often played for the Colorado Raptors' third defensive pairing, he often had to face up against other teams' third and fourth lines. This made Big Terry extremely familiar with every team's depth forwards, however, there was one that Terry feared the most when he looked at the calendar. This would be the dynamic fourth line of the Newfoundland Berserkers. This line featured Niccolo Livius, Lassi Suhonen, and the S54 first overall selection, Liam Slate. The three players combined for forty-five points and were a plus twelve. This all was achieved whilst playing less than ten minutes a game makes the line even more dominant in comparison to fellow fourth-liners featured on other teams. This as well as a very strong defensive core for Newfoundland made them a very difficult team to play for Big Terry and the rest of the SMJHL and with most of their players returning, Newfoundland will be even scarier in the next season.

Do you have any clue how crazy the Rotticus Scott, Jaska Seppala, Rocco Berni line was to play against? It was like playing against Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl with a broken Xbox controller somehow plugged into your SNES. That is how unfair it was to play against this team. Seriously, the three of them are all in the top five in points for the entire season. How are you supposed to play defensive against that? I had to drink four shots of Jack Daniels just to get through that game. One for each period and then another after I threw up during a line shift in the third period.

Wait. It was six shots. I took two on the bus ride to the game. Thank god I was so drunk I barely remember that game. It is like a nightmare for Sven.
It is almost as painful as watching terrible Norway national hockey team try to play hockey.

Marshall started the season on the 4th line, rotating with a few other wingers in and out of the lineup. As a result, he only played 42 games this season. During which, he played with four different players. For the first half of the season, it was Bob Poppinfresh at center, and either Jax Gracie or William Reynolds on the opposite wing. They didn’t have much success, but about halfway through the year, Poppinfresh was dropped from the team, and Reynolds stopped receiving ice time. In the back half of the season, newly acquired free agent Alexander Kozlov would be Marshall’s regular center-iceman, while Gracie would be the other winger. They would start playing together consistently (no more rotating in and out of the lineup) and have some success together. Despite their limited ice-time (they still played on the 4th line), they produced some offense together, and weren’t all that bad defensively. Kozlov is a perfect example of that, being just a -2 since he arrived. This is pretty good considering the Timber were the second worst team in the league. All-in-all Marshall’s season wasn’t anything to ride home about, but it got better once he started playing with Kozlov and Gracie on a regular basis.

If you are talking about the best defensive pairing in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League this season look no further than the Vancouver Whaler's second defensive pairing consisting of Lonnie O'Donoghue and Johnny Shuffleboard. They were defensive specialists this season, one could even say savant-like, with Lonnie posting a -19 plus minus and Johnny -25 plus minus. These guys were among the league leaders in stopping any and all shots from getting even close to the goal this season and you can tell that by the stats. Another way that these two were incredible defenseman was their offensive contribution. Lonnie O'Donoghue posting and absolutely ludicrous 8 assists and 0 goals for a grand total of 8 points. Johnny on the other hand posted an actually no meme 21 points. He had 4 goals and 17 assists which was the highest scoring defenseman on Vancouver, and the 3rd highest scorer on the team all season. This is obviously cap my player was terrible and I feel bad for Johnny Shuffleboard for having to be on a pairing with me.

Kelowna's top line is the best line that I have played against this season in the SMJHL. Jaska Seppala, Rocco Berni, and Rotticus Scott were just on fire this season. Jaska Seppala led the entire league in goals scored. He also had the best plus/minus rating in the entire league among forwards. His 180 shots on goal were, also, 1st in the league. Rocco Berni was a strong two-way center, notching 47 points and a plus-25 rating. Berni had considerably more takeaways than giveaways and 58 blocked shots. He was the defensive rock upon which this line was built. Rotticus Scott brought the physicality with 82 hits. He was the line's muscle and grinder in the corners. He really tied the line together and made it a complete package. On the backs of Seppala, Berni, and Scott, the Kelowna Knights finished at the top of the league. For Kelowna to go on a deep run in the postseason the Knights will need this line to continue their elite production.

Oh man heck yeah. This pt is good man i like writing about this stuff for sure. Now i have played on a lot of good lines this season in the smjhl league. i have also played against other good quality top tier lines in this smjhl season league. one of the best lines that jason desroulx played on was this one im about to tell. his other winger was hartmann. big guy with strong feet to push off the ice. good speed and a good shit to go with that good speed. the center ice boy was nikiforov. man let me tell you about this big center for vancouver whalers. this guy is letahl on the dot. he does not lose draws. really easy guy to play ice hockey with. he sets you up real good and just makes life easy for the boys out there on the hockey rink. What a rush it was playing ice hockey with these ice hockey players. hope all my future lines are this good hahahah

When talking about MVPs of this season, it's hard to argue against the top line of the Kelowna Knights, with Jaska Seppala, Rocco Berni and Rotticus Scott.

Seppalla is definitely the goal scorer on that line, scoring a total of 27 in the SMJHL Regular Season. Berni and Scott both had more assists than goals, but that speaks to how good those 3 players were due to their chemistry. When you have a line this solid, it's hard to bet against them in the SMJHL Four Star Cup Playoffs. There is a reason that the Knights finished 1st in the league, and it is off the backs of the three dynamic players that make up the top line for the Knights. Like others have said before, if the Knights want to make a deep playoff run, they need all of these guys to show up for the Playoffs, and if they do, there's a good chance that the Four Star Cup will belong to them.

Far and wide the most annoying line to play against for Balzams was Newfoundland's finest. The combination of Ryuuji Minamino, Matthew Forrester, and Patric Twist was the most devastating offensive onslaught for a defensemen to shut down. And Shut down is a loose term. The three of them finished 2nd, 8th, and 15th respectively in league scoring. Twist has raw physical attributes that allow him to out maneuver and win battles of attrition. His ratings of 13 in Speed, Stamina, Strength and Balance are some of the highest in the league. Minamino is the same story, with 14 Stamina he can out duel any defensive parring. His 13 Shooting accuracy shows his deadliness in the offensive zone, with 25 goals to show for it. A 0.5 goals per game is enough to make anyone groan at the prospect of facing him. Forrester's 38 assists highlight his incredible playmaking ability, allowing for astonishing plays that leave the other team mesmerized. Through and through that line up is one that will give Leonids nightmares for years to come.

As backup goalie for the Kelowna Knights this season, I had the opportunity to have many great defencemen play in front of me and allow me to have 10 wins in 11 starts and an unbelievable stat-line. Adam Scianna and Devin Williams were my favorite pair to have in front of me for two simple words. Shots blocked. Combined, they had 133 blocked shots, which means that those pucks are not coming towards me and saves me from having to have an additional bruise in the morning. This number is more than twice the amount of the 2nd line (60 combined shots blocked) and nearly 100 more than the third pair (45). Thanks to their bravery and testicular fortitude to get down and block a 90 mph shot without the pads is something, and I am happy to be able to be their backup goalie this past season and wish them the best of luck wherever they end up next.

Neg Rep trained with many different people throughout the season, but the best training partner he had was certainly James. James & Neg Rep would destroy the weight room together, leaving no stone unturned and sweating all over the equipment around the gym. But off the ice, Neg Rep & James were a superb duo keeping in constant touch over AIM messenger.

Steve typing a nice IM to Neg Rep

Their chemistry outside of the gym was just as nice as their chemistry in the gym! It was so nice for Neg Rep to have a friendly pen pal to keep himself entertained while watching reruns of The Golden Girls. Out of all the training partners Neg Rep had throughout the year, Steve was certainly the best. He is definitely Neg Rep's pick for MVP training partner.

For me, the best line is an emotional one: it's Joorgustraad DuBolk and Ulrik Bergstrom. These two, while only a bottom 4 option, showcases some of the best synergy the league has seen. Both are Swedes, and have met each other on multiple occasions through Joln DuBolk. When Bergstrom was traded to the outlaws for their current run for the cup, both were ecstatic to know they would be placed on the same line. Once the pair showcased what they could do together, the coaching staff saw what they could do. While Joorgustraad still has a ways to go in terms of defensive prowess, he's getting better and better by the day, allowing Bergstrom to take the lead in most situations. Both have the vision and finish, so they have switched off duties every now and then, making the duo very hard to deal with. It also helps they can throw the body quite a bit too.
