Ready for grading

Leo Bloomfield enters the room. He is once more wearing his Ireland suit. He looks around the room and waves to the reporters.

"Thank you for coming. Again. Let's get started."

Q: Bloomey, this was your first season in the starter role. What is your relationship with Suzuki and what is different to when you were Saarinen's understudy?

A: I think we're quite good mates with Suzuki actually. He's been teaching me some Japanese phrases and I've been teaching him how to sneak beer into his water bottle *laughs*. It was quite difficult for me to change into the role of the "master", but Suzuki made that job easier by being a great student.
With Saarinen, there was always some tension inadvertently, because of how the games were split up between us. But regardless of that, we got on quite well and I learnt a lot of things from Olli that I still rely on.

Q: Where do you see your own strenghts and weaknesses right now?

A: Well, people have been saying that I've got a pretty strong glove hand. I tend to agree with that. I would also think that I'm adequate at handling breakaways. Weakness wise, I believe that I still need to work on how I stop low shots. Something just isn't right there, maybe it's just a faulty technique. Next.

Q: Are there any specific goalies in the SHL (past or present) that you look up to?

A: I always admired how Ian V. and Peter Larson went about their jobs. Both fantastic players.

Q: What are your expectations for Ireland in the coming IIHF tournament?

A: I am a firm believer that we can make it once more into the knockout stages. We have sourced some excellent young, promising talent and our group of older players show no sign of letting up.
