Introduction:

In this game we see the Maine Timber go up against the Vancouver Whalers at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. In this game it was an interesting one for people who like a lot of penalties. The Whalers of Vancouver came into this game with an 8-29-2 record sitting at 18 points on the year. The Maine Timber had 28 points with a record of 14-27-0; both teams have been struggling on the year. In today’s game we will look at the 3 stars of the game and as well as go over each period and what this fun and interesting game had to offer.

First Period:

In the first minute of the first period, we saw our first penalty of the game the Maine Timber Mikkel Asmus Sondergard was called 2 minutes for hooking. The first period was a lot of trash talking between the two teams, each time there was a chance to talk some massive trash each team would do it. In was in the eighth minute into the game the next penalty from Maine again, Valentin Kalashnikov for holding someone from the Whalers teams stick. A minute into the power play the Vancouver Whalers scored the first goal on the night. Domenic Alessandrini scored his sixth goal on the year. Johnny Shuffleboard got the puck to Ryosuke Sato to set Domenic up for a pretty goal.

Second period:

The first period ended on Slimey Snail and Jesse Seppanen pushing and shoving each other by the bench and had to be pulled apart from their teammates. As soon as they got back onto the ice together which was first 30 seconds into the start of the second period, Jesse Seppanen slashed Slimey Snail off the faceoff, and got two minutes for slashing. A minute after Jesse Seppanen got out of the penalty box and Jesse and Slimey were going to the bench and Slimey Snail put his stick in front of Jesse Seppanen and he fell over her the stick. So Slimey got a two minute penalty for tripping. Oh… there was a goal in this period as well, Wily Coyote scored his fourth goal on the year, and it was assisted by Sammy Koa and Bud Light Lime Bud Light Lime. The Vancouver Whalers is up 2-0 on Maine Timber going into the third period.

Third Period:

SO. Well this third period was a fun period to watch. This game was bound to have something happen there were 11 penalties during the game until “THE BIG ONE” happened. In the 16th minute Slimey Snail and Jesse Seppanen were sitting at the on the bench and yelling and arguing over the second period penalties between each other. They lined up next to each other and well they decided it was time to fight. The two beat the snot out of each other. It was a beautiful sight. I always love a good fight. Both of them were still yelling at each other even going back to their penalty box.

Summary:

The clock hit zero on this fun game, and the fans of the Vancouver Whalers were happy with the win, but just SMJHL fans were so happy to see all this fighting, pushing, and yelling. At one point the goalies were yapping at each other, SMJHL fans were wanting to see a goalie fight, because that is what we love to see. There were two goals scored in this game by the Vancouver Whalers to win 2-0 bringing there points to 20. The 3rd Star in the game went to Bud Light Lime Bud Light Lime with 1 assist on the game. The 2nd Star of the game went to Alexander Roach had a game rating of 79; he had 3 shots on goal. He played very well. The 1st Star was goalie Name Redacted he had 30/30 on saves. He played out of his mind!

Comment 1: The Basement

Two of the worst teams in the league were matched up tonight, so expectations were relatively low for this particular outing. Vancouver was able to completely shut out the Timber while scoring goals of their own. This game was filled to the brim with sloppy penalties and fights, which added some entertainment value to a rather low scoring and otherwise unimpressive match. A win is a win at the end of the day though, and surely Vancouver will take this opportunity to build upon the success they had here. Hopefully going forward the Timber will be able to start turning things around as well.

Comment 2: Slimey Seppanen

Two players tonight really had it out for each other: Slimey Snail and Jesse Seppanen. Pretty much any time the two of them were out on the ice, someone was getting their shit messed up. Slashings, trippings, fights, we saw it all tonight. Perhaps there's a bit of a rivalry between these two players going forward. Certainly something worth keeping an eye on. If anything, these two give you a reason to want to watch the next game between Vancouver and Maine. Hopefully they can dial back the needless penalties a bit and make it a more skilled, competitive rivalry.

Comment 3: Who's That Goalie?

The Vancouver Whalers got one hell of a performance out of their goaltender Name Redacted tonight. He was perfect, posting 30 saves en route to the win and shutout. He truly stood on his head in this match. It does not matter how bad the other team is, it is never an easy task to post a shutout victory. Name Redacted was just the man for the job tonight, and if Vancouver can rally around their goalie's strong play, maybe he will find his groove and the team can go on a bit of a run to finish off the season. However, we all know how fickle a goalie's play can be.
