Hello and welcome to Fever's Season 55 Minnesota Chiefs draft review! Today I will be taking a look back at the Season 55 Simulation Hockey League Entry Draft and reviewing all of the selections that the Minnesota Chiefs made throughout it. I will gauge how good (or bad) each selection was for the Chiefs and talk a little bit each selection, including that player's potential future in Minnesota. The Season 55 SHL Entry Draft took place on Wednesday evening, July 15th in an unknown to the public location but it was thought to be held at the home arena of one of the SMJHL or SHL franchises. The entry draft is always an exciting time for SHL draft prospects and management teams alike and Wednesday was no different, with a fairly deep draft class ready to hear their names called to the draft podium.

Devin Basher - Right Wing - Vancouver Whalers

The Minnesota Chiefs held an early draft selection, seventh overall to be exact and it has been no secret that they need some good, quality forward prospects in their pipeline. The Chiefs elected to select Vancouver Whalers right winger, Devin Basher. As of now, Mr. Basher has accumulated 350 hours of training under his belt and has worked hard to improve his game as much as possible. The Chiefs were very happy to pick up Devin in the draft in the number five slot and his already became acquainted with veterans and rookies of the Chiefs locker room, showing that he is a good presence there already, even though he is still a young player. The Vancouver Whalers finished dead last in the SMJHL standings during Devin's rookie season in Season 54 but he still put up some decent numbers. He was able to score 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points, with a -15 plus/minus rating, 6 penalty minutes, a single hit and 38 shot blocks. The Vancouver Whalers failed to qualify for the Season 54 4 Star Cup Playoffs and thus, Basher has no playoff statistics to show for himself. We expect Devin Basher to develop into an elite level two-way forward but he needs more time in the SMJHL to ripen and grow his game before that can happen. Expect him to spend another season or two down with the Vancouver Whalers before he is called up to make a big impact at the SHL level!

Alex Marshall - Right Wing - Maine Timber

The Minnesota Chiefs next selection in the Season 55 SHL Entry Draft came midway through the second round, with the number 26 overall selection and they decided to go with another winger, in the form of Canadian right winger, Alex Marshall from the Maine Timber. Marshall currently has spent 364 hours of the training room and the Chiefs have to very happy to get him where they did. The Maine Timber finished last in the East Division of the SMJHL in the regular season and I would have to say he had himself a good rookie season. Alex posted 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points in just 42 games, adding a -18 plus/minus rating, 39 penalty minutes (including 3 fights), 72 body checks and 2 shot blocks. Much like Basher, Alex Marshall and the Maine Timber were not a part of the Season 54 SMJHL playoff tournament, and thus has no stats to show. Alex Marshall has also been a great addition to the Minnesota locker room and we are very excited for his future. Another season or two down in the SMJHL with Maine shlould do him good as well, but he looks to have the potential to be an elite power forward at the SHL level!

James Boxman II - Center - Anaheim Outlaws

The Minnesota Chiefs were back on the draft board in the third round with the 35th overall selection, and after selecting two wingers, they elected to go with a centerman at this pick. The selection came in the form of British born, James Boxman II of the Anaheim Outlaws of the SMJHL, who currently has spent 296 hours in the training facility. James played just 36 regular season games with the Anaheim Outlaws, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points with a -10 plus/minus rating, no penalty minutes, 13 body checks and 6 shot blocks in about 7 minutes of ice time per game. The Anaheim Outlaws finished second place in the West division and made it all the way to the 4 Star Cup championship series, eventually losing in 6 games to the Carolina Kraken. Boxman averaged about seven and a half minutes of ice time per night during the playoffs and scored 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 16 games. He added 4 penalty minutes, 2 body checks and 3 shot blocks with an even plus/minus rating. With an increased role in Anaheim in Season 55 and beyond, James Boxman II should see a jump in his offensive stats as well as defensive stats. The Minnesota Chiefs should be very happy with this selection and would like to see Boxman develop into a great player for their future!

All in all, the Minnesota Chiefs have to be very happy with the outcome of their Season 55 SHL Entry draft as they selected three youngsters with very bright futures for the organization and it will be interesting to see how they develop for Minnesota. That's all from here today and we hope you all tune in next season again!
