Whalers Draft Recap

Now that the dust has settled on the draft and players have finally been updated for the first time I thought this would be a great chance to write a short recap of the Whalers draft class.

With the eighth pick in the first round the Whalers selected Dee Centerman IV. Grok seems to be a very active member in our locker room and as a recreate this was a very smart and safe first pick. DC4 is a Center and currently has 225 TPE, which is good for 2nd most in the class at this point. At this early stage in his career Centerman has focused on Defense and Physical attributes, so don't expect a lot of goal scoring from him, but pair with the right Wings and his line will be a force on both ends.

Next up with the twelfth pick in the draft and the final pick of the first round was none other than my player Kobo. Currently at 208 TPE, which is good for seventh in the class currently. As soon as my salary comes in I'll be purchasing the Equipment/Coaching and gaining 20 more TPE which would actually put me up at #1, so hopefully that happens soon. Kobo is an Offensive minded Wing that might pair well with Centerman who is defensively minded.

With the thirteenth pick in the draft the Whalers took Defensewoman Sarah Burke from user Kyamprac. With 192 TPE Burke has the fifteenth most TPE in the class at this point. It looks like Kyamprac has built Sarah to be a steady presence on both ends of the ice with good passing ability as well as doing an excellent job of keeping the puck away from the goal on the defensive end. Kyamprac and I are both on the PPT team in ISFL, so it's fun that we got drafted to the same team here. I look forward to receiving lots of passes from Burke as Kobo strives to score many goals.

After a long break for the Whalers due to a forfeited pick the team was back up for the thirtieth pick where Rikki Petrov was selected. From user AndrewWarren13 who I know mostly as the legendary San Jose SaberCats player that brought them to glory many seasons ago with his quarterback. He's still on the team now as a wide receiver that I have to stop from catching passes as a cornerback for the Second Line. Anyways, in this league Rikki Petrov of the famous Petrov family is a Center with 206 TPE. That's good for ninth in the class, which means he was a huge steal at 30th overall. His focus so far seems to be on distribution of the puck on offense and getting the puck back on defense. Like myself, he hasn't purchased Coaching yet, so look for him to climb even higher in the draft class TPE Ranking list.

Three picks later at thirty third overall the Whalers grabbed another steal in Valtteri Kauppinen from user Pythonic. He's at 195 TPE after his first update which is good for thirteenth in the class. He's also not paid for any Coaching yet, so he'll probably be higher than 13th soon. Kauppinen is similar to Kobo in that he is much more focused on scoring goals than the defensive end of the ice. Kobo and Valterri will definitely be having a friendly competition to see who can score more goals this season.

Just four picks later at thirty seventh overall the Whalers got another huge steal in defenseman Zebulon Leavitt from user Kraagenskul. Currently with 208 TPE is good for eighth best in the draft class. Leavitt may be the most likely pick from this class by the Whalers to start a fight and every team needs that guy. He's heavily invested in defense and physical attributes and doesn't seem to care much about the offensive side. Burke and Leavitt may be a great defensive pair if that's the way it shakes out on the depth chart.

Clint O'Conner was picked from the fifty eighth spot and he hasn't done anything since creating, so unfortunately it looks like he's going to be an inactive player unless he decides to come back.

King Leaf was the last pick by the Whalers at seventy third overall. He's a goalie and had earned a few TPE, but might also be inactive.

Overall I think this is an excellent haul for the Whalers. Two center, two wings, and two defense persons make up the core of this draft class and they all seem to be ready to make an impact on the team straight away. Look for this class to be the backbone for the Whalers success in the next few seasons. It'll be interesting to see if we can make it to the SMJHL championship with this group.

Great piece! I think we got a ton of value out of our draft picks and I’m looking forward to seeing them on the ice.

"Leavitt may be the most likely pick from this class by the Whalers to start a fight and every team needs that guy" We might see a few more points into the fighting attribute now...
