Welcome all, to a very special night in Carolina franchise history. Tonight, we will not only celebrate the achievements of the past and put them to rest, but also celebrate the promise of an incredibly bright future.

Season 54 saw your Carolina Kraken as slow starters but still capable of winning important and competitive games. Headlined by a veteran leadership group of Jimmy Wagner, Keith Lee, and Frans Eller, they showed resilience game after game, and soon began to thrive as rookies acclimated to the league and the roster was joined by mid season acquisitions Stan Hanson and Sven Ykskaft. The surge that followed propelled the Kraken to an incredible second half of the season. Jimmy Wagner caught Ryuuji Minamino in the points race and came home with an MVP trophy, and he was joined in that voting by an underrepresented Keith Lee. Adam Friedland led all defensemen in points and took home the SMJHL Quilha Agante Trophy, while Sven was right there with him on the ballot. In total, Carolina saw their boys bring home 5 individual awards, 7 more nominations, and the top GM award, to highlight a season of incredible success.

A success capped off by an incredibly long 20 game postseason, and a new banner to add to the Spectrum Center.

The GM award itself is bittersweet as you all can imagine, because it is the final sendoff to one half of not only the best pair of GMs the franchise has known in its long existence, but one of the best the SMJHL has ever seen. cpetrella has more great things on his plate in the coming years in Tampa, but the city of Carolina and the entire Kraken organization will never forget what incredible achievements he obtained while here the last 6 seasons.

Thank you, @"cpetrella".

Beyond that, we’re seeing a saddening number of players leave the roster this offseason. In addition to the progression of Keith Lee, Frans Eller, Stan Hanson and Sven Ykskaft this offseason saw the offseason losses of Michael Lee, Zelma Zuntnere, and Moritz Muller. Carolina would not have been what it was last season without any of you. Thank you for your time and service, and we wish you all the success in your future endeavors in your careers. You will always be able to call this arena home.

With the departure of Keith Lee and Frans Eller though, new leaders must rise. Jimmy Wagner will reprise his role as Captain for one final season before leaving for the SHL, but new Alternates to stand by his side are necessary. With the new roster in place, the team as a whole selected two individuals to be new on ice leaders for the Kraken. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our newest letter-wearers…

VITEK VITECEK and CONNER HUTTON!

Both of these individuals have shown great character on and off the ice, and have shown immense love for the orange sweaters they put on night in and night out. I have no doubt that they will continue the great tradition of Carolina leadership, both here and in the future when they join their respective SHL teams in Chicago and New Orleans.

With our future solidified, both in our leadership and addition of four new Kraken ready to tackle the league - Adrian Ayers, Aleksander Kozlov, Grape Fruit, and Ragnar-Alexandre Ragnarsson-Tremblay, we can comfortably look to the past one final time for the Season 54 Kraken Team Awards, as voted by the members of that team.

Our first award tonight is the Kain Webb Award for Leadership, and our nominees are..
Dwight Knight
Jimmy Wagner
Keith Lee

The winner of the Kain Webb Award for Leadership is someone who has relentlessly pushed their team to greatness, both in leading by example and in elevating his teammates’ play. This player has mentored many of his younger Kraken at times, and is both a calming and energizing force in the locker room. This year’s Kain Webb Award for Leadership goes to…

JIMMY WAGNER
@sve7en

Our second award tonight is the Cristoph Klose Award for the Top Forward, and our nominees are..
Jimmy Wagner
Keith Lee
Vitek Vitecek

Despite the immense depth scoring from the roster, all three nominees spent a lot of time on the ice together. Their dominance as a top line was felt around the league, scoring en masse and dominating possession numbers night after night. Two of these players even saw their names brought up for the same league MVP title this season, and astounding feat brought on by the performance of all three. The Cristoph Klose Award for the Top Forward only goes to one however, and that is…

JIMMY WAGNER
@sve7en

Our third award tonight is Carolina’s version of the Quilha Agante Award for the Top Defenseman, and our nominees (much like the SHL version) are…
Adam Friedland
Ben van Dijk
Sven Yxskaft

The defensive core of Carolina redefined what defensemen in the league could be expected to do. These three could all be trusted with scoring from the blue line, and suffocating opposing top lines, and one man specifically stood out as someone who was near the top of the league in both. The winner of the Quilha Agante Award, again…
ADAM FRIEDLAND
@Bongo

The fourth award tonight is the Jordan Nugent Hall Award for the Most Dedicated Player, and our nominees are…
Conner Hutton
Dwight Knight
Jimmy Wagner
Dedication to one’s team can be found in a number of ways. Dedication in leadership, dedication to your brothers and sisters on the ice, and dedication to being the best player you can be. All three of these individuals demonstrated each of them at different points in the season, but one stood out above the rest. The last one to leave at night, the one always thinking about how to make the team the best it could be, there was noone who lived and breathed Kraken hockey this past season like the winner of the Jordan Nugent Hall Award…

DWIGHT KNIGHT
@hockeyiscool

The fifth award tonight is the Petr Klimek Award for the Best Two-Way Player, and our nominees are…
Adam Friedland
Keith Lee
Sven Yxskaft
It’s hard to not say these three were not the best examples from the entire SMJHL of the common ways to define a two-way player, and they each did it in their own way. Regardless of how you slice it though, all three of these players dominated the game with and without the puck. The winner though, is someone that went beyond anyone else in the league, sporting the best corsi and shot differentials, while racking up insane amounts of ice time. Noone made things happen across the entire rink more than this year’s Petr Klimek winner…

KEITH LEE
@TheDangaZone

The sixth award of the night is a personal favorite, both in name and what it represents. The Alonzo Garbonzo Award is a rookie award, but it’s unique to the normal SMJHL rookie of the year award in that it’s awarded to a rookie player who played well on the ice and had a great locker room presence. This award commonly reflects an incredible drive and an individual that truly embraced everything as soon as they stepped into the locker room. Our nominees this season are...
Axel Foley
Blunt Man
Conner Hutton

All three of these nominees were guys that hit the locker room and immediately had a positive impact. Despite being on the third pair or being a backup goalie, they all embraced their roles and the team as a whole, and they have all grown into their own this first season. The winner was a rock both in the locker room and on defense, and someone that carried a mature veteran persona despite the rookie label. They fully embraced the first gen they were paired from before they even laced up skates and elevated both of them to a level that we're excited to have for at least two more seasons. The winner of the Alonzo Garbonzo Award is…

AXEL FOLEY
@Mazatt

Our second to last award tonight is the Kurtis Hunter Award for the Team's MVP. The nominees this season are…
Adam Friedland
Dwight Knight
Jimmy Wagner
Keith Lee
All four of these players were dominant this season, and it’s hard to compare them evenly. Each of them provided value at both ends of the ice, generated offense that any team in the league would envy, and had their own incredibly clutch moments. The leading defenseman scorer, the leading playoff scorer, and two league MVP candidates is an absolutely incredible accumulation of individual accomplishment and a testament to everyone involved in assembling this roster. This season’s Kurtis Hunter Award goes to…

JIMMY WAGNER
@sve7en

It’s common for teams to end at their MVP, but Carolina does things a little differently. There is one award critical to how we exist as an organization, the Michael Fitted Award for the player who best demonstrates what it means to be a Kraken. This fairly new and nebulous award is best defined by it’s past winners, the one and only Michael Fitted and Jimmy Wagner. It commemorates the sportsmanship, dedication, and excitement shown by the winner, and truly represents both the passion we all have for the SHL/SMJHL as well as a love for their team in Carolina and the league as a whole. Our nominees for this season’s award are…
Conner Hutton
Dwight Knight
Panda Panico

All three of these guys make sense for this award, but it makes me incredibly proud to know that if I expanded the nominees at all, I would have to include four more people. The culture in Carolina has been something truly incredible, and every new addition seems to enhance it that much more. All three of the top three vote earners are first gen guys that exemplify all the characteristics listed before and have exploded with passion for the league. This year's winner of the Michael Fitted Award is…

CONNER HUTTON
@overdoo

Thank you all for coming out, thank you season 54 roster and teammates for another incredible season, and thank you all for making the SHL one of the best communities online.
Congratulations one final time to the award winners, the nominees, and to the entirety of the Carolina Kraken organization. Season 54 is over, and it's time to get to work.
