S55 PT #2 - Equipment Sponsorship
#1
(This post was last modified: 08-04-2020, 09:54 PM by hotdog.)

This was on my list of PTs to do this season and it's a great coincidence seeing the Sponsorships thread being discussed last week! Perfect timing to do this one:

Your player has been approached for an equipment sponsorship. A company out there wants you to wear their gear exclusively out on the ice and will be paying you handsomely to do so.

Written option: What company is offering you the equipment sponsorship? How do you feel about switching companies for your new [skates/pads/stick/gloves/etc/]? What else has the company asked you to do to promote their brand - are you in any advertisements for the equipment? (150 words min.)

Graphic option: Show a scene from a print/billboard/TV ad starring your player advertising the newly sponsored hockey equipment. Must include player render, the equipment, SHL team or league logo, and whatever slogan/information is relevant for the ad.

The sponsorship can be from any real/fake company you like, but it must be specifically for hockey equipment, or something your player uses while playing hockey. (you are a hockey player!)

THIS PT IS FOR SHL PLAYERS AND SEND DOWNS. IT IS NOT FOR SMJHL ROOKIES.
You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.
This PT will close Sunday, August 9th at 11:59pm ET.
Affiliate claims from either PBE or ISFL are accepted but neither of those leagues have PTs this week so I guess you're out of luck lol.
If you have any questions/concerns, please PM me. Tasks with malicious intent will not be graded.
*hotdog's note - "where would you put an expansion franchise" is always the most commonly-suggested PT topic and I usually have to shrug it off because we can't always be doing that one but now with HO's announcement of expansion it's the perfect time to finally do it!! So that'll be coming up later this season, probably for PT#4*

Since winning the S54 Four Star Cup, Dwight Knights Agent's phone has been ringing off the hook. One sponsor in particular caught Dwight's eye. It was someone reaching out from Reebok. Reebok was looking to bring back the historic Swedish brand Jofa, specifically the helmets. Reebok hadn't produced any Jofa products since purchasing the brand over 20 seasons ago. Jofa was a brand titan during his youth, so seeing the brand lay dormant for for so long was sad for Dwight to see.  Wearing a helmet was a weird change for Dwight as previously did not wear a helmet. He generally lets his long locks flow but the offer to be the face of the return of such an iconic brand from his youth was too lucrative. Dwight knew he had to do it. The best part about it was when brainstorming ideas for revamped helmet slogans, the one Dwight suggested was picked. It was "When protecting your hair and dome, think Jofa."

Notable speedster and J MVP winner Jimmy Wagner was the hot commodity of the offseason for hockey brands. Everyone wanted the rising star repping their brand and his  phone was ringing off the hook once the offseason award nominations were coming in. Since Carolina, like most of the SHL, doesn't have an exclusivity deal for apparel Jimmy signed with Under Armour for the next few seasons to wear some of their insulating base layers and cozy outerwear.

On the ice, Wagner has always worn CCM skates, and was ecstatic when he found out they wanted to work with him for some of their promotional material for some of their new lightest models. The fastest skater in his league endorsing their skate was something that every company was looking for this offseason but CCM was lucky enough that the used skates the Austrian winger's dad found for him back in the day were theirs.

This morning my agent called me and told me he had a sponsorship opportunity for me and it was one that I cannot refuse. He told me that "Reebok" has wanted me to be a brand ambassador with them for their hockey stick. I would be getting a custom made hockey stick line in my name that would mirror the stick that I currently use with Reebok in the SHL. I ecstatically told my agent that I would love to endorse a Reebok hockey stick and especially since one was going to be made for me.

I am getting paid to shoot a commercial showcasing my shooting, stick handling and some posing with the hockey stick. There will be a behind the scenes video with Reebok development and myself going over what I want in my stick, the length, grip, colour and the type of flex I want it to have.

Reebok has also asked me to post on my Instagram and Twitter to promote Reebok and my new hockey stick that will be hitting the shelves in a few months. Looking forward to see my new hockey stick collaboration with Reebok coming soon!

Entering his 3rd season in the SMJHL, a Japanese hockey equipment startup reached out to Ryosuke Sato to test out their new equipment. The company Hikari Hockey sent out their newest skates, stick, and helmet for Sato to try during practice. Once he put them on, Sato immediately noticed how light the equipment was. Being a smaller, lighter player, removing additional weight from equipment really enabled Sato to move a lot faster. Plus, the performance that he got from the skates and stick were comparable to his original CCMs that he was using previously. One thing was for sure, he knew that Hikari Hockey was on to something.

With this, Sato and his agent agreed to a 1 season sponsorship deal with the company. Since Hikari Hockey was a startup, his agent felt that they shouldn't commit long term. However, hopefully with this sponsorship deal more players in the league and around the world will start to take notice of this new company. In this deal, they agreed for Sato to continue to wear and use Hikari helmets, skates, and sticks for the remainder of the S55 season. Additionally, Sato will be appearing in a couple of YouTube advertisements endorsing the brand. He will also be featured on the website as one of the players who uses their products. So look out for Hikari Hockey advertisements featuring Ryosuke Sato!

Despite TURG’s decently high draft position in the Season 55 SHL draft, not many companies have offered TURG a sponsorship. The brand that did send the defensively aware left wing an offer, was True Hockey. When TURG got the call he immediately set fire to all of his old gear. He continued his pyromaniac show until teammates Theo Kondos and Igor Victory told him that he didn’t have to do that.

As part of his deal with True Hockey; TURG is required to mention the word TRUE somewhere in each one of his tweets (minimum of 5 tweets per season), and must also only tell the truth (TURG’s own stipulation for the contract. He believes if he tells a lie his nose will grow like Pinocchio)

TURG TURG’s face also adorns a billboard in the shadiest part of Anchorage. Of course, TURG doesn’t really care. He drives by the billboard every morning (which has resulted in him being carjacked no less than seven times)

TURG looks forward to his continued partnership with True Hockey.

Wow, it is really time for my first big time sponsorship. All those points last season must be boosting my prospectus, because boy do I stink this season! I figure I'll get a stick sponsorship before anything, as I'm known for my stick work on both ends of the ice. It's of course not time for me to have my own signature stick, as I haven't even hit the big leagues yet, but Bauer decided they want me using their stick and theirs only, so they invest in me for the future. Although I don't get my own model, Bauer makes sure that I get a personal color way of one of their best sicks. The clean Green and Gold color scheme to match my Kelowna Knights threads, kids will be asking their parents for a Rotticus Scott stick every Christmas from now on. When I hit the big leagues, maybe I'll get my own skates and stick!

It was interesting to receive a call this weekend from the agent while in office looking at expansion details.  "Hey Strom, have I got a deal for you!".  Of course he's my agent so I listen intently.  "Brian Custom equipment is wanting you to sport their newest line of pads through the All-Star break this year.  They'll pay you $50k to do so!".  I've been a Bauer kind of guy for years and my pads are just fine.  I've seen some of the custom things that Brian has made in the past and wasn't overly impressed.

"Just through the All-Star break?", I reply.

"Just through the All-Star break."

"I don't suppose I get the option of saying no to this do i?", I ask my agent hoping that there's an out.

"Nope, unfortunately not.  I've already told them you would.  Oh, and don't forget my 2% cut of that as per our contract agreement."

"Fine, whatever." I say as I hang up the phone thinking to myself I really need to find a different agent, or just represent myself.  Oh well, looks like I'm repping Brian through the all-star break and then I can go back to bauer.

JURT is sponsored by Under Armour and their ArmourBite mouth guard. The sponsorship was offered to JURT after he lost a few teeth blocking a shot with his face last season. In his post-game interview, JURT had candidly said : "I just got up and kept smiling", and the company asked him to use this as their slogan.  Here's a transcript from the first TV ad they did :

JURT: Being a hockey player isn't always easy, you often have to sacrifice your body for your team. When it happens, you just have to get up and keep smiling!

Offscreen voice: And now, with UnderArmour's new ArmourBite Triple Turbo X Guard, you can protect all your precious pearls from damages caused by a stick, a punch or even a puck to the face!

Comparison between dental X-Rays of "Teeth after blocking a shot with the regular mouth guard VS Teeth after blocking a shot with ArmourBite Triple Turbo X Guard

JURT: AmourBite - Get up and keep smiling.

Hutton was reached out to by CCM over the summer, for a sponsorship. It was a pretty exciting moment, and he had obviously taken it. It was a brand he used for most of his life, with a few exceptions, but being able to be a face of CCM? It would be huge.

The main thing going on with the partnership is Hutton would obviously be getting their newest equipment to promote, but he would also get a custom stick and skate that would be sold to other CCM customers if they were interested. They have yet to be made, but it was already announced that 10 signed skates, and 10 signed sticks would be sent out to some lucky people if they bought CCM equipment from the website.

Lastly, Hutton would partake in a commercial, a photoshoot, and then an extra promotion. The commercial would be with other SMJHL players, around 5, showcasing their skills while representing the CCM brand. The photoshoot would include pictures for stores, as well is extra ads, and then the extra promotion video would go along with Hutton's custom gear release. Then, while not a part of his payday, CCM will reach out again once Hutton skates his first game in the SHL, for another promotion with the Specters.

Pornhub is offering me a new equipment sponsorship, they're giving me new gloves for the new season. They're cashmere inside with the same stuff they use in astronaut suits so I stay cool and can't feel much of anything if I get a puck to the hands or a slash or something, which some of these dirty guys do in this league, not naming names. They have the same colours as the Kelowna Knights, they're really a beautiful thing to look at and I can't believe pornhub would even sponsor me. The fingertips have the words P O R N H U B in bold letters so you know who sponsored them, although some people may fear for the integrity of the sport at that point, beggars can't be choosers, just check out my pornhub live, you'll see what I mean. I don't mind switching gloves for the new season, I think pornhub picked the best player to sponsor, I've got great hands and they're silky, These gloves will keep them fresh and ready at a moments notice.

They've asked me to do nothing but the licking between my fingers motion and the scissoring action with my new gloves.

You can see my on the pornhub live page, if you're not a member beforehand.

It was a surprising turn of events for Texas Renegades forward Kaarlo Kekkonen to receive an exclusive equipment deal offer from one of the biggest companies in the game in Bauer, but he certainly wasn't complaining. Kaarlo has worn Bauer gear for a long time, and the opportunity to be a part of the organisation's select group of players who are paid to endorse the company and wear their gear is a huge opportunity for the youngster. Although he hasn't exactly been the best performer on the ice this season, the Bauer representatives saw the ability that Kaarlo possessed and it's believed that signing him to a cheap deal at this stage in order to maximise their investment down the line was the main reason behind the move. The deal with Bauer includes some billboard appearances in Texas, and also leaves the door open for potential TV advertisements down the line. It's a great day for Kaarlo, and hopefully he'll be able to live up to the newfound hype of his Bauer deal.

Ever since he started playing hockey, Cal Labovitch noticed the palms of his gloves would need replacing more often than his underwear. Despite applying new tape to the buttend of his stick before every game or practice, his gloves would deteriorate at the same rate as a lump of sugar in a glass of water. After moving to Minnesota, Cal was approached by a representative of Buttendz grips. Buttendz grips replace hockey tape, both improving your grip and stick control as well as protecting your gloves. Cal has been playing with, and advertising the Buttendz grips since the start of the pre-season. Apart from his face on a huge billboard right outside the Minnesota Arena, Cal will be starring in a TV Commercial, as well as the company's youtube tutorials on how to apply and use the Buttendz grips. Should the product prove to be a success in North America, the plan is to launch more add campaigns all over the world starring Cal and a select few other players.
