S55 PT #2 - Equipment Sponsorship

When CCM reached out to me about a sponsorship I was beyond thrilled. I have been using CCM gear for all as long as I can remember and it has always been my go to choice whenever I need to replace any gear that has broken down from the wear and tear of SHL play. It was an easy choice seeing that no company had ever reached out to me about a sponsorship deal before. CCM and I worked closely together as to how to best promote the brand and do some good for the community. In the end we came to setting up some hockey camps in the Baltimore area and donating a whole bunch of gear for kids that may be unable to afford it. With how I play CCM also developed a special line of shin pads and shoulder pads to help better protects players that block a ton of shots and love to take the body. The advertisement for the new line is just me standing there and getting blasted by pucks for thirty seconds and skating away no worse for wear. Check out the new line when it drops!

In a surprising turn of events, Fox Racing announces that it is starting its own line of hockey gear. At first, most people just assume its stuff like practice jerseys or socks, small stuff that you wouldn't really notice. But then, one day, the first Fox commercial people have seen in years is seen in the first intermission of that week's SHL Primetime matchup. The SHL player that was selected to represent the brand? None other than New Orleans' own Michael Fox, and honestly, there isn't a more fitting representative for the brand. Decked out in the obvious Fox brand skates, gloves, stick, helmet, and visor, its easy to see the visual appeal of the brand. Not immediately noticeable is the Fox brand shorts, chest protector, knee pads, and elbow guards. Fox represents the brand with pride, and hopes that the brand is here to stay in the hockey realm.

Quote:Written option: What company is offering you the equipment sponsorship? How do you feel about switching companies for your new [skates/pads/stick/gloves/etc/]? What else has the company asked you to do to promote their brand - are you in any advertisements for the equipment? (150 words min.)

I was thinking of coming up with a fictional brand as a sponsor for the SHL. So, let's say the brand is called... Claymore. It's a two handed sword, and the idea would be that since a hockey player's stick is their weapon, the company would make sticks.

Adam would be more than happy to switch companies, as he hasn't been happy with the way his current equipment has been handling for him. Too many times have his passes been off the mark or shots missed the net solely because of the manufacturing of his gear. Maybe this new sponsorship with Claymore will give him that extra edge with which he can climb back up the points leader boards.

Since the claymore sword is something from the medieval era, maybe the company has him decked out in full plate armor at the announcement ceremony. It’s hot as shit, and he’s stuck in a suit of iron as the press asks him about his thoughts on the brand’s quality and craftsmanship. In the end, it’s worth it though, because they do make good hockey sticks and the sponsorship money doesn’t exactly hurt.
After a quick stay at the hospital for heat exhaustion, Adam’s looking to get back out on the ice with his new two-handed weapon. ■

For players who are poor of eyesight like Minamino is, to help with the difficulty of trying to play with corrective lens (for example contacts) and hoping they don’t pop out after a big check or some physical scrums, VisionVisor is a optometrist certified vision corrective lens made custom for the players who are born with less than 20/20 vision and hope to play without the handicap of tradition corrective vision tools. In order to promote their brand, Minamino shows up in commercials that involve him in typical eye-sight challenging scenarios, such as being in the back of a classroom, reading out what’s on the board, helping somebody who’s dropped their contact lens and finding it for them, all while dressed in full gear and wearing the VisionVisor, demonstrating its clarity and ability to help him see with full vision in all kinds of situations.

Honestly, Minamino usually prefers glasses anyways because contacts are annoying to spend time with and who wants to touch their eyeballs ugh. So going from glasses to a visor and never having to touch my eyes is a win in my books.

During his entire tenure with the Anchorage Armada so far Thorbjörn Gunnarson has been loyal to the brand CCM. His helmet, skates, and sticks have all come from the Canadian hockey giant, and there was even a publicized clash between Gunnarson and the Armada's equipment manager during the season when they tried to issue Warrior branded gloves for the entire team. Thorbjörn insisted on wearing his own CCM gloves with the team colors on instead, and after many weeks of back and forth eventually the equipment manager relented and the young Norwegian was allowed to wear his preferred brand. Due to the publicity of the situation CCM approached Thorbjörn with the opportunity to star in a series of online banner ads for their new line of hockey gloves. The gloves that he is sporting in the ad feature the Armada branding on them, and as a nod to the situation with the equipment manager there is a small pile of burning Warrior gloves behind him in the ad.

Sketchers has gotten into the sports game and have provided me free skates for the rest of the season provided that I play in the things. Needless to say they don’t hold up more than a few sessions. My productivity is down because I can’t go anywhere. I have ten point at the halfway mark of the season which is way off my average for last season. Honestly, I can’t wait to be done with the skates. They’re not even paying me that much but I can’t badmouth them too much or they’ll pull the money. I’ve been in a few magazines and they had me model a few shoes for the back to school sales. It’s been a miserable experience and one that I want to forget. Honestly, this whole season has been pretty forgettable for me so far and these cheap skates are just a metaphor for that. On to better sponsorships in the future, hopefully.

Well, Ronlain isn't too partial to any of his equipment aside from his stick brand. He's been using the same brand since he was 12 years old and it's done him well this whole time. It would be real hard for him to want to give up on the same brand and model of stick he's been using for about a decade now, but it certainly could make for a good opportunity. Ronlain is a goal scorer, no doubt about it. He's gonna be slamming the puck into the back of the net in the SHL for seasons and seasons to come. So I think it could be quite lucrative for him to partner up with his favorite stick brand and see if they can make him a custom style stick that really fits his needs and helps him keep racking up the goals all season long. It's a deal that really works out for both sides I think.

Guomundur Kristjansson was offered an equipment deal by Warrior, and he decided it was best to go that route. He is pretty excited as before he was using CCM, however the thought of having an equipment sponsorship was only something he dreamed up until recently. Now the promotional material is pretty great for Warrior and Kristjansson, since he is icelandic. Warrior created a commercial with Kristjansson on a viking longship along side vikings rowing in full hockey equipment with his stick, running into battle with the hockey stick and using the gloves and equipment to block enemy weapons. In the end Kristiansson stands at the top of a hill posing in his warrior equipment, with the icelandic flag tied to his hockey stick. While an elaborate commercial, it hopefully drew some attention to the brand.

Now it is difficult switching to new equipment especially mid season such as this, and perhaps that is the reason behind his on ice performance, but a statement from Kristjansson about his equipment had shown that he was extremely happy with this switch and has no problem finding his new normal with the equipment he was given.

So much to Phineas surprise, when it was time for him to get equipment this year he was reached out to by a company he never thought would tell him that they have gear exclusively for him. He was reached out to by PetCo. In an impressive and ambitious project by the premium pet company they reached out to Phineas to pioneer the brand. With their new patented Armadillo* line they expect to create lightweight, durable solutions to hockey gear. After using Bauer for so long, Phineas was willing to give it a try as he was hurting for new gear and he's never one to shy away from something new.

To promote his choice when he switched, Phineas was asked to do a photo shoot with his dog ice.  After much shampoo, bubbles, and playing in the water. The photo shoot was completed. It was to no one's surprise that the majority of the shots almost exclusively featured Ice. When the promotional photos came out though, they ended up getting some shots of Ice looking like royalty and Phineas proudly displaying the gear. All in all, we want to see how this gear helps out this season.

if i got to choose any sportswear company to be sponsored by it would definitely be adidas. they have, in my opinion, some of the nicest athletic wear out there and it would be a dream to get free swag given to me by them and ALSO paid by them to wear it. that's a total win win. preferably, they'd offer me the chance to design my own clothing line/my own shoe/hockey gear. it would be pretty cool to be involved in the creative process and kind of have my own thoughts and creative designs come to life. not sure that adidas would want to do that though since my player will most likely cap out as a good 2nd line winger at max. maybe a commercial would be cool too but i'd much prefer to have my own line of gear. maybe with the sponsorship money they give me i'll finally be able to afford some extra tpe i've been slacking on

Pornhub has decided it wants to enter the hockey space with its own set of equipment. They decided for a marketing purpose they wanted to target young players in the league who have a sex appeal. One of those players is Bo Kane who is having a breakout year with the Edmonton Blizzard having 27 points in 21 games. Their pitch is they want to play with the internet meme of when someone's mom walks in to their room while they are watching a video of something cool or "dirty" and she asks what they are watching and they say Pornhub instead. The first ad will basically be that with the teen watching Bo Kane highlight reels. They will be strictly entering the industry with just a hockey stick and they will be having a release party which will consist of many of their famous female actresses throughout the event.

You see many players rocking the same old stuff - CCM mitts, some Bauer skates - hell, maybe even a Warrior helmet if they're feeling particularly spicy - but this season, old brands are making a comeback - I've been approached by JOFA, EASTON, and I'm ashamed to say - even Winnwell. But, I've decided to sign with EAGLE. For those of you familiar with EAGLE, their mitts are so filthy. I remember back in the hay day... Eko Van Otter wore eagle mitts and was mercilessly bullied for it. They called him a "badly dressed geekzoid". He ended up dropping Eagle from his repertoire, as he couldn't stop crying.

However, EAGLE has offered me big bucks - Basically, I'll be sporting some silky orange, white and black EAGLE mitts with the Kraken insignia attached - the new EAGLE Century 9000x twig with custom Friedland curve (lefty), and an EAGLE bucket.

EAGLE has also given me creative control over my skates - I'm gonna customize the laces and shells accordingly. Not gonna miss my run of the mill CCM bucket.

I've never attempted a graphic, but I haven't never forgotten this sweet picture of the Great One from the 80's.  Couldn't pass up using this gem, even with my non existent graphic skills!  Here's the link to the original picture of Wayner in all of his glory:

Toner has never been a massive name during his SHL career, so he usually never had the biggest endorsements or equipment sponsors. When he first got nominated for the Stevens back in S46 he got a call from his agent explaining that CCM was looking to become a sponsor. He wasn't one of the main guys on the commercials or anything crazy like that but he made an extra couple hundred thousand per season by being a "CCM athlete". Once he actually took home the Stevens in S49 some other brands came calling such as Warrior and Bauer, but Toner decided to stick with CCM as they had treated him pretty well over the years. They did however give him a pretty hefty extra bit of money and he even got to be one of the main faces in a couple commercials after that.
Outside of equipment Toner has had a few sponsorships over the years, one such being Down Drake Beard Oil, who he repped way back in an SHL PT. He was also sponsored by King of Donair during his time playing in Halifax, which was amazing in the fact that he got free donairs whenever he wanted, and not so good because he was often in hot water from his coaches because of it.
