Sim Day 11: Luffy Richard
#1
(This post was last modified: 08-07-2020, 04:50 PM by Moreorless89.)

Hello Whaler faithful, you Keyboard Warrior is here once again to bring you the sim that was, and the way we were. We have an interesting slate of games today as the Vancouver Whalers visit the hated Kelowna Knights who have had their way with the Whalers like my father had his way with a rack of ribs. But we must have faith in our Whalers because if we combine our faith streams, the universe will reward us with victories and free bowls of Rowdy Ramen.

So that is our first game: Vancouver Whalers at Kelowna Knights. Our second contest is Carolina Kraken at Vancouver Whalers. So this should be an interesting day.

One of the questions we will be answering is: will Luffy Richard keep up his goal streak? Let's take a look at the sim that was on this fine August day.

Well, for the first fifty-five minutes of the game, the Whalers put up a hell of a fight, keeping the score one to one. Unfortunately, Luffy Richard was on the ice for that lone goal, ending the night a minus-1, while taking two minor penalties and losing the only face-off he took. Something his teammates are not happy about. In the last five minutes of the game, the Kelowna Knights exploded for 3 goals that dashed the Whalers' hopes for revenge as they fell 4-1.

Luffy Richard's state line included three blocked shots and three hits, showing he was very active on defense, but his offensive output fell short, and thus could not help swing momentum for the Whalers.

Also of note, the new Whaler winger, Markleeslo Hopscotch, made their Simulation Major Junior Hockey League debut in today's game, accruing one blocked shot and seven minutes and twenty-six seconds of ice time. Welcome to Vancouver, may your harpoon be ever ready.

The Carolina Kraken comes visiting the Vancouver Whalers who will seek to make a meal out of the oversized octopus. Let us see how the game went down, shall we?

And I am sorry to report that the Whalers fell to the Kraken 6-3, blowing several leads, and allowing two empty-net goals. Once again, the Whalers seemed to run out of steam at the end of the game, though it was a hard-fought battle. Luffy Richard ended the game a minus-1 with a minor penalty and losing the only face-off he took (where have we heard that before?). That minus-1 is not the full story as Luffy Richard had another strong defensive game, having two blocked shots, two hits, and three takeaways. He also had two shots on goal and a missed shot that failed to generate offense, though his other line-mates did contribute.

I sat down with Luffy Richard at his stall as he was saging his equipment once again. I asked him how he felt about his play, and he was happy with the effort he put forth, but is not happy with the outcome. He feels if he is to be a true defensive threat, he has to put the opponent on their heels and score. He can block shots and hit everyone, but if the puck is in the Whalers defensive zone there is the possibility of the opposing team scoring. He wants to work on his break out which means he wants to be faster, pass better, work on puck possession. He wants a greater takeaway to giveaway ratio, and he hasn't been happy in that area, though today did see him in the positive there.

well, that is all for this day. Until next time, Whaler faithful,

Keyboard Warrior,

out.
