Task #4: 3 TPE (Word Count 183)

Upon landing in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Vaseline Podcalzone was immediately informed that he’d be expected to help out with charity and public events whenever they are available. Podcalzone, having grown up in the more rural city of Vladivostok, understands what it’s like to live a non-luxurious and less fortunate lifestyle. Most of his hockey equipment was bought second hand during his youth hockey career. Therefore, during the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League pre-season, Podcalzone attended a charity event hosted by the Jumpstart for Kids charity, whose goal was to help communities and kids who do not have the money to be able to afford to play youth sports. Podcalzone was there to sign autographs for kids, ask questions from any reporters who were present, and also helped out with some activities that the charity had set up. This was Podcalzone’s first real experience with that playing in a North American market was like, and he is very happy to see that there are charities that help those in need, which are not nearly as common in his native motherland.

Task #8: 3 TPE (Word Count 176)

Vaseline Podcalzone’s rookie season was quite productive, to say the least. Sure, he didn’t produce many points, but at the very least, he provided physicality and injected energy in the Berserkers’ lineup. Playing on the 4th line for most, if not all of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League season, the Russian right winter averaged just under ten minutes of ice time per game. This meant that Podcalzone made the most of every shift that he got. Statistically, Podcalzone was able to put up a pair of goals and a handful of assists for a total of 8 points on the season. It wasn’t anything to get too excited about, but given his sheltered ice-time, it’s better than nothing. Podcalzone’s goal for next season is to step up his game and significantly increase his point production. The Newfoundland Berserkers will likely have many of their top players graduate into the SHL, so Podcalzone will likely get more ice time, and have to step up in a bigger role for the team, likely on the third line.

Task #9: 2 TPE (Word Count 101)

Look, lumberjacks are skilled with cutting down trees, but they aren’t trained to invade and colonize like a group of vikings are. Vikings were trained as youth in preparation for invading and conquering territories. They are literally built for war, and no matter how hard lumberjacks swing their axes around, the vikings swing harder, and with bigger axes as well. Plus, don’t lumberjacks need an insane amount of maple syrup and flapjacks in order to operate? Well, all you need to do now is take those away from them and they won’t even stand a chance against a horde of vikings.

Task #12 3 TPE (Word Count 181)

If you look at Vaseline Podcalzone’s numbers, at first glance, you would not be impressed. Podcalzone, playing only 8 minutes per night for the Berserkers, only put up 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists) in the regular season for the Berserkers, playing on the team’s fourth line. However, this is a player that wants to get better, and is hungry to do so. Podcalzone may not be putting the puck in the back of the net as often as his other teammates, but he is an absolute workhorse that tries to get better. Additionally, Podcalzone is someone that gives it his all in every shift, and does the little things right. Look no further than the Season 55 playoffs, where Podcalzone put up 4 points in 17 games, which would have been on pace for 12 points in a regular season. Additionally, Podcalzone laid down 20 hits (on pace for 60 in a regular season), and also had two fights, including a fight in Game 6 that fueled the Berserkers into scoring four unanswered goals to win the Four Star Cup.

Task #13: 4 TPE

Question A (Word Count 58): I’m going to go against the curve by selecting my fellow Berserker rookie, Jonas Kahnwald, for the best name out of either team in the finals. It’s not a name that is a painful pun, and it not only sounds like a real good hockey name, but a name that I could definitely see a real player having.

Question B (Word Count 94): Despite being a Berserker and knowing that Cale has been a crucial part to our organization, I feel like Bloomfield has played a huge part in getting the Timber to where they are. While Cale has had the offense to back him up on some days, it feels like Bloomfield has had to play a much harder game. That, on top of the fact that he has played more games than Cale because of Newfoundland’s BYE, means he’s had to play more and carry his team hard through an additional round of the playoffs.

Question C (Word Count 67): Ultimately, Carolina’s downfall was not being able to carry the momentum fully. They had a huge win against us in Game 6, but ultimately collapsed when it mattered in Game 7. Had they pulled through in that one game, they would have been in the finals. The same could go for the Knights, as they needed their players to step up against that red hot Maine team.

Question D (Word Count 67): Without a doubt, the surgence of Mats Marner for the Berserkers played a huge role in our successful season. In season 54, Minamino was the player that carried the Berserkers to the top of their game, but with Marner stepping up to become another deadly player in the Berserkers’ top 6, it has led to this team turning into a powerhouse, most notably with the power play.

Task 2 (2 TPE)

It's game one of the 4 star cup finals. Fans have started filing into the arena for the upcoming huge game against the Maine Timber. As they make their way to their seats, they notice signs proclaiming it to be a surprise fan appreciation night, and that the fans all have surprises waiting for them on their seats. They file their way in and on their seats, they find some awesome looking commemorative viking helmets for the fans to wear! It is made in the Berserkers colours, and on the back it says "s55 Eastern Conference Champions." The big surprise is that whenever the Berserkers score, the horns on the helmet light up red. A fascinating touch that fans are sure to enjoy for many seasons to come.

WC: 129

Task 3 (2 TPE)

We're comparing the rookies from the s56 draft class in this years 4 cup finals! Maine has one rookie in Calvin Hobbes while Newfoundland has 2 rookies coming in. From Maine we have Calvin Hobbes. In the regular season, Hobbes finished with 4 goals and 11 assists in 15 games and was a -3 while averaging 9:18 in icetime, not bad for his rookie season. in the Playoffs Hobbes currently sits at 2 goals and 3 assists while +2 in 16 games.

From Newfoundland, Jonas Kahnwald finished with 6 goals, 9 assists and a +19 rating and Vaseline Podcalzone had had 2 goals and 6 assists with a +2 rating during the regular season. In the playoffs, Kahnwald currently has 3 assists and is a +9 in 9 games while Podcalzone has 2 assists and an even +/- rating.

WC: 139

Task 8 (3 TPE)

My first season in the SMJHL was a very fun one. I very much enjoyed getting to know all my teammates in Newfoundland and learning my way around the sight. Even doing all the point tasks and media articles brought me some joy. For Jonas, I think he did really well in his first season. I was hoping that I could build him into a player that would not be an anchor to such a strong Newfoundland team that would be gunning for a championship, and he definitely was not! I think he could have taken less penalties, but overall looking at the advanced stats, the team actually performed slightly better with him on the ice than with him off. Now whether that may have something to do with being such a deep team, so playing with better players against weaker opposition, who knows. But 6 goals to lead all Newfoundland defence in goals, and another 9 assists while playing on the 3rd pairing and virtually no special teams time is very good. He also led all rookies in +/-, which while being a not very important stat is impressive nontheless. I was hoping he would hit 20 points but I also realize how difficult that would be for a rookie defenceman to do. 15 points is still pretty good. Next season Jonas aims for the stars again, hoping to reach 25 points.

WC: 232

Task 11 (3 TPE)

Jonas will be spending part of his off-season at the World Junior Championships, as he recently received the call that he had been selected for the DACH team! Very excited to compete in his first international tournament and he is hoping to have a good showing there and hopefully bring home a medal of some colour. The team is very young and has some inexperience further down the lineup but Jonas believes that they can still perform well. I will also be prepping his 350 build for the start of next season, hopefully getting some test sims in and seeing what works best for next season. Not much is expected to change in his situation/playtime, as Jonas will still be behind a very strong defence in Newfoundland, but there may still be some added responsibilities, such as more opportunities on the powerplay perhaps.
Also will have to do some media and bring in some moneyy, looking to take advantage of the 2x draft bonus.

WC: 165

Task 12 (3 TPE)

Next on our pre-draft scout report, we will be looking at Newfoundland Berserkers rookie defenceman Jonas Kahnwald. Drafted 15th overall in the s55 SMJHL draft, the rookie put up a very good 15 points in his rookie season, leading all Newfoundland defencemen in goals with 6. He also led all rookies in +/- this season with a rating of +19. Jonas has shown to be prolific in the offensive zone this season, often joining the rush and creating chances and havoc in the offensive zone. He is one of, if not the marquee offensive defencemen in the upcoming draft. While he did mention that he wants to be good at both ends of the ice, he certainly could do with some more work on his defensive game. While not terrible, it was decidedly unimpressive, although his giveaway to takeaway ratio was very good, finishing the season with 6 giveaways and 12 takeaways. His defensive game saw an improvement as he developed towards the end of the season, and word is he is looking forward to developing his defensive game and also his physical attributes for the start of next season. He is currently ranked 2nd amongst all rookies in TPE, so don't be surprised to see Kahnwald snatched in the first round of the upcoming draft.

Task #2 - 2 TPE (112 of 100 words)

For Fan Appreciation Night, the Vancouver Whalers are celebrating their star goaltender Name Redacted with our very own Whalers branded foam censor bars! Blacked out with the word [REDACTED] in white bookended by Whalers logos, this censor bar is a unique crowd engagement toy and Vancouver’s answer to the giant foam finger. Fans have taken to Instagram and Twitter with selfies of the censor bars over their eyes, posting on our hashtag #REDACTED with friends, family, and even pets. Even the team has gotten in on the social media frenzy, posting their own selfies with the REDACTED censor bars and handing them out to fans outside the arena on press availability days.

Although he is a recent transplant to the region, Whalers center Dee Centerman IV has immediately become an icon in local volunteering and outreach. Centerman IV was recently spotted handing out school backpacks to children with Share Vancouver, a local homeless outreach program. At the Special Olympics British Columbia Vancouver annual meeting in July, Centerman IV was listed for a keynote speech on the role of professional and semi-pro athletes in promoting and supporting disabled and neurodivergent sports organizations. Our reports show Centerman stayed after to bump elbows and solicit big-ticket donors. Not to keep all his work behind closed doors, Centerman IV also held free master classes for British Columbia Special Olympics’ figure skating and floor hockey classes back in Winter. Between directly supporting the local community with donations and volunteer time, and supporting the Special Olympics with his specific skillset, Dee Centerman IV has already shown he is a strong supporter of the region and the people of Vancouver.

From a functional standpoint, having all 12 teams in playoffs makes a lot of sense. As a junior player, there’s a lot of value in getting playoff experience and having an equal shot when you get to grow so much in a single season. That said, the cross-conference play in the first round and the wacky semifinals seeding does devalue the regular season experience quite a bit. Coming into semifinals as the third seed is way better than finishing first or second, and having a team all the way on the east coast win the western conference title is...bizarre. There will always be growing pains with any playoffs change, but I hope the league is taking notice for some improvements in S56.

Although the Whalers got swept out of the second round, there is a lot to be excited about in Vancouver. First, the team is losing very few players to call-ups. Most of the team is sticking around, and will have another full season of experience under their belts. Star goaltender Name Redacted, defensemen Slimey Snail and Ryouske Sato, and forwards Luffy Richard and Bryce McMahon all project to play a senior season with the Whalers. Meanwhile, all seven of Vancouver’s rookie forwards saw huge jumps in performance towards the end of the season and project to be huge players right out of the gate in S56. Just looking down the lineup, Vancouver looks to play like Newfoundland or Carolina in S55--with a huge group of talented skaters on day 1, hoping to make a huge impact early and bank points for a high seed. The only question is managing expectations: will this talented, young team be content with a third round exit, or is it cup or bust for next season’s Whalers?

Practice. I’m spending most of my offseason practicing. Training, working with coaches and specialists, improving my diet. I want to get better, so I am working on my game as much as possible. On the ice, I have been working with some world class players from my region as well as my mentor Cedric Robinson in drills and scrimmages. I got the chance to play on the WJC roster, so I will have some extra practice there as well. Off the ice, I have been working with my old U-16 coach on some stickhandling exercises and strength training, and with a personal trainer to up my strength and agility. With my huge Vancouver rookie contract, I was able to hire a dietician to optimize my food choices and increase my muscle. In what spare time I have, I’m splitting it between playing video games (not sports titles, I get enough of that in my regular life) and volunteering for Share Vancouver and the BC Special Olympics.

Task 2: The fan appreciation day should be held to commemorate this season's success so I think the best game to do that will be on the home opener next season. I think a fitting gift would be a foam finger but since it's the Kraken, it will be a foam Kraken tentacle. Each fan would receive one on their way into the stadium to celebrate the deep playoff run and also to celebrate the start of the season. This gives each fan a commemorative piece that they can return to future games with and is easily recognizable as Carolina Kraken merchandise.

Task 3: Kyle Sutton vs. (Clean) Andre Kostitsyn. These are arguably the top offensive players on each team represented in the finals and will be key to whoever wins the championship. Both players are shooting at blistering percentages at 25.49% and 26.32%, respectively. More impressively, Sutton has kept this up for 16 games, accumulating 13 goals. If the Maine Timber have any chance to upset the Newfoundland Berserkers, he will need to keep producing at this rate throughout the series. Kostitsyn has the better supporting cast but if he disappears this series, it opens up the opportunity for Sutton and the Timber to take advantage of this lack of production.

Task 4: Grape Fruit has decided to work with the Charlotte school system to help donate school supplies to teachers and underprivileged kids. Many kids do not have the resources to get all the materials needed for a successful school year so this will ease the financial burden on these families. Additionally, teachers often have to pay for their student's supplies and their classroom supplies so they are always in need of more resources. Teachers already do not make enough for the pivotal role they play in so many children's lives and this predicament only financially strains them more. The goal is to allow teachers to have all of the things they need to be at their best to instruct the future generations. Also, this will allow kids with less available to them to not be caught behind due to factors beyond their control. Grape Fruit hopes to continue this throughout his time at Carolina at multiple schools within the area to spread the benefit as far as possible.

Task 5: Kyle Sutton - League leader in points and goals by a wide margin. There seems to be no hotter player right now and sometimes it's about who's hot and who's not. (Clean) Andrei Kostitsyn - One of Newfoundland's best players and as someone who played him in the previous round, he seems to score a lot and that helps teams win games. Guy LeGrande - Another player who seems to have elevated his game from the regular season. Leading Newfoundland in points and averaging over a point per game, seems to be rolling in the playoffs. PJ Souppan - Perhaps deserves to be on this list for name alone. Playing big moments on the blue line, he seems to be involved at the critical moments of the game. Will Windsor - He is contributing quite substantially for the timber and leading the league in points for defensemen. This is a great area to have this amount of points coming from. Cale Amundsen - He doesn't have the best numbers of the goalies in the final but he has won arguably the biggest game in game 7 against the Kraken, the clutch factor is evident.

Task 6: I think if Anchorage matches up with any other lower seed team, they have a good chance of advancing in the second round. Quebec and Vancouver were both beaten handily by the top two teams in the league but Anchorage should have had no problem if that was their match up instead. Even coming into this round, Anchorage had 20 more points in the regular season than Maine so according to those results, it doesn't make much sense how Anchorage lost. I still believe that Carolina and Newfoundland would advance regardless of the lower seed team they played as they just showed too well in the regular season. It seems if any team had the potential to upset them it would be Maine as they did to the Armada. Additionally, I don't see either Quebec or Vancouver beating any of the higher seed teams either and the only way one would advance is if they played each other.

Task 8: I was very happy with my performance this season. I overall contributed nearly twice as many points as I thought I could so that was very exciting. I think the best way to improve for the coming seasons is to gain more TPE. This may be trivial but staying on top of things like PTs and managing the bank account are a little more involved so that's my biggest task. I expect to step up at least one line next season due to players leaving but I'll still operate the same, gaining as much TPE as possible. I started pretty late so I've got my work cut out for me to reach some of the higher members of my draft class. I'm super excited to be drafted and hope I can prove to be a valuable asset to the team that drafts me. I'm looking forward to stepping up for the Kraken next season, for a more immediate goal.

Task 10

If you are a player for the Nevada Battleborn, there really is a lot to look forward to in the next season!

The Battleborn are a very young team having been part of the expansion in the SMJHL last season and the thing that stands between the team and success is the age of their team. This means that by the time they come back next season they will be much more able to compete and will have a chance to win the Four Star Cup.

Experience is never a bad thing and that will help too as the team was able to experience their first SMJHL playoff series this season too.

It’s going to be exciting to watch the Battleborn play next season and I think that we are going to be a team to watch. Let’s see what the GMs are able to do between now and this season to make us even better and more ready to win!

Code:
Task 11

There is not much time between the end of the SMJHL playoffs and the SHL draft but I am planning on spending time recovering and healing after the season before it is time to do it again!

It will be nice to be able to go home and spend time with family and friends after being away for so long playing in Nevada. I want to spend a lot of time working on improving for next season so that I can come back and be a better player. Nevada had a hard season but I want to be a better player who can help his team more when it’s time to come back for another try!

I will also try and coach some of the young players in the area I grew up in. It’s important for me to give back to my community and it helps me learn by teaching others!

Code:
Task 12

Alexis Vermette is an interesting prospect in the SHL draft.

He has spent the season playing for the Nevada Battleborn in the SMJHL and was one of the best rookie scorers in the league playing on the teams second line, but he is not valued among the top prospects in this draft. This is because some scouts think that his development is behind the other players in the S56 draft and the history that his agent has had with managing players in the SHL.

If a team takes the risk of drafting Alexis I think that he has a high ceiling and has a lot of potential to score goals and play as a good player at the SHL level.

He is not the best prospect in the class but his skating speed and scoring touch should mean that a team thinks he is worth taking a chance on in the draft!

Code:
Task 13

A. There are many great names in this playoff series but the one that stands out the most is Hennesey-Gallchobhar O’Mcguinness of the Maine Timber! I am a big fan of Ireland and Irish names so this one ticks all the boxes for me and I hope that he plays strong and lives up to his name!

B. This is hard to say because both goalies have been unbelievable but I think that Leo Bloomfield has been the most important player for the Maine Timber so I would give him the edge! He has done everything that the team needs to win all season so I would give the Timber the edge in goal!

C. The thing that they would be able to do better would be score goals! It is a simple way of looking at it but both of the teams were finding it hard to score goals and crack the goaltenders they faced which will always make it hard to win a series. If they had both made it to the finals it would also have been a fun series!

D. The key player for the Newfoundland Berserkers in the regular season is an easy choice! Because Mats Marner was able to lead the SMJHL in scoring he was definitely an important player for his team and helping them be successful during the regular season. There are other candidates on the team too but I don’t think they come close to him!

Task #2 - 2 TPE
An expansion team in Nevada faces challenges, including fielding a solid crowd at home games. The inaugural season was a difficult one but the folks of Las Vegas came out in droves to support their new hockey squad and the Battleborn are very excited to show their appreciation with 'Horn Hats'. Baseball caps with foam ram horns on the sides branded with the team logo and 'thank you' printed on the back adjustable strap, which will be given to each ticket purchaser for the opening home game of season 56 in Nevada. A reusable rallying cry that will undoubtedly recur during the season, most likely near the end of the season as a playoff primer.
Word Count: 115

Task #4 - 3 TPE
I'm a part of two charities off the ice, one in Calgary that was started by my grandfather from his time back in the day with the Dragons and we've just turned it into a family affair. It offers help to different parts of Alberta in the form of clothes, food and other supplies to help the less fortunate. We fund raise money and goods and then my family uses their trucking business to deliver the donated items to different parts of Alberta. We're looking to expand out to Saskatchewan and BC but for now we're just focused on helping out Alberta. Since getting to Nevada I have started a charity to help addicts. Vegas has it's share of addicts who battle with gambling, drinking and drug use and seeing these people around us has pushed me to try and help them get the resources and help they need to get clean. It's still in the early stages but we've seen some payback in the form of AA/NA meetings contacting the organization with comments that the added help has helped them get more people clean and a lot more returning for six month coins. I'm really happy to see the efforts paying off and it's nice to make a change in my new home.
Word Count: 215

Task #5 - 3 TPE
C - Mats Marner - Post-season play means top lines get focused on more defensively, but Marner has a lot of offensive upside as he led the league in the regular season and in a dream team situation it's impossible to look him over as the top option at center.
LW - Kyle Sutton - On an absolute tear in the post season, Sutton is leading the league in goals, points and shots on goal. An absolute offensive dynamo who would do well being paired with Marner and Kostitsyn. He does well to back check in his own end and has 31 blocked shots in the post season which helps generate breakouts.
RW - (Clean) Andrei Kostitsyn - Kostitsyn is a phenomenal two way player and has been one of the leaders for the Berserkers this season giving them some second line scoring. While he doesn't have as many blocked shots as Sutton, he has a very responsible nine takeaways to three giveaways.
LD - Will Windsor - Windsor is the best all around defenseman in the league being a leader in Maine in points, plus/minus, ice time, defensive grade and blocked shots. Seventy six blocked shots in twenty two games is an insane amount and Windsor is a beast in both ends of the ice.
RD - Adrik Baranov - Baranov has been another big defensive force for the Timber with a +14 rating to go with twelve points and right around nineteen and a half minutes a game played. Not necessarily the best defensive player with only three blocked shots and nineteen hits, his offensive prowess makes up for that.
G - Leo Bloomfield - Bloomfield has played in seven more games then Newfoundland's Cale Armundsen and has pretty well equal numbers over those extra games which leans to him being the more consistent goalie. Facing over four hundred more shots and posting a slightly higher goals against average but a better save average makes Bloomfield the better choice overall.
Word Count: 321

Task #7 - 2 TPE
I think the new format has some ups and downs, but this is also my first season back in a long time so my opinions aren't that informed. I think it's nice to have every team participate in the SMJHL as the junior level at it's core is less about competition and more about growth of our players. I think that's changed a bit since my time originally in the league as more send-downs are playing for longer, but it's important to have new members not sit around for 2-4 weeks with nothing to do and I think all teams playing for longer achieves that and gives all members more to write medias about and more reason to check into the site. Obviously the seeding issues aren't ideal but it's the first iteration and I'm sure things will be worked on to smooth out the process.
Word Count: 146

Task #8 - 3 TPE
I feel I performed well and I was unsure of what to expect being drafted by an expansion team with a very shallow roster. I put up 19 points and was third in the league in blocked shots so I can't complain at all. For me it was important to prove to myself and the league that I had the drive to claim all the possible TPE I could get and make sure I was staying committed to training and doing PTs and on that front I absolutely nailed it. I did every single opportunity I could and have been very active in my locker room and done some medias so I can end the season knowing I did my best. For next season I just need to keep rounding out my build, which I already planned out and are happy with with the 350 cap for my second season. I'll be able to do that at the start of the season so I'll be ready to go for next season with my planned build and I think that will pay bigger dividends for me in S56.
Word Count: 187

Task #10 - 3 TPE
Nevada has a ton to look forward to next season and we're all very excited to get it underway. From the top to bottom we have a ton of super active players and we'll be at the 350 cap soon, along with a couple of the senior players coming back to activity or pushing harder. We have two active goalies and a stud starter in Weaver, we have six active defensemen who will all be pushing for the 350 cap very early in the season and some potent offensive weapons up front like including some exciting guys like Chad Danger. On top of that we have the second overall pick in the draft where we'll be for sure looking for another forward to fill out the team and we can start pushing out some more inactives. We as a squad are all fully invested in the team and improving and I think we can legitimately be a threat to make it deep in the playoffs for next year. Last but not least we get to see Weaver's Battleborn Reports return once we get back to play which is always exciting.

Task #4 - Charity (3 TPE)

As a fresh rookie, Lemo was immediately immersed into the team’s schedule of various charitable events and activities in and around the city of Anchorage and sometimes even in the farther regions of Alaska, when the game schedule has allowed it. Due to Lemo himself having had personal experiences with some skin disorders and diseases like acute atopic dermatitis and psoriasis since early childhood, he has asked the team  charity event planners to make that area his priority, focusing mostly on dermatology wards in children’s hospitals and talking to kids there to give them confidence in overcoming the troubles that they may face due to their illnesses, assuring them that with the proper mindset they can still achieve their goals, whatever they may be. Lemo feels that his own battles in fighting his way through initially being picked on in school due to his skin ailments and later finding ways to keep playing hockey at an ever increasing level and intensity despite the wear and tear that hockey gear also puts on the body’s largest organ could serve as a motivation to kids currently undergoing those battles themselves.

Task #8 - First season (3 TPE)

Joining the league some time after the season had already started, Lemo Pihl was lucky to get signed almost right away by the Anchorage Armada. Because if the team’s surplus depth at left wing, which is Lemo’s natural position, he was given a depth role as a fourth line center. Although the team as a whole did very well in the league this season (statistically their best regular season to date, in fact; apart from sadly losing to the eventual finalists Timber in the first round) Lemo is not entirely satisfied with his own performance. Hoping to at least provide a reliable defensive presence on the fourth line, he instead ended up with a hefty minus rating and some ill-timed giveaways (the final one leading to the series-losing OT goal in the playoffs). He did however improve his stride over the course of the season and looks ahead to next season with optimism, looking to continue advancing his skills and usefulness to the team.

Task #10 - Team looking forward (3 TPE)

The loss at the hands and axes of the lumberjacks of Maine Timber was indeed like having a tree fall on our collective heads in Anchorage. Coming into the series off our best regular season ever, with the league’s best goalie this season leading the way, though by no means underestimating the skillfulness Timber team, we were still expectant of finding a way to overcome them in the end. But despite everything we tried, the result was a soul-crushing Game 7 overtime loss after leeding the series 3-1 already three games earlier.

Looking ahead, though, we still have reason to be optimistic for next season. We should not have too many of our core players leaving the team in the coming off-season and the bottom part of the lineup will be more experienced and looking to up their levels of play across the board. We also trust that our star goalie Scoochie will put the disappointing playoff performance behind him and return to the spectacular form he showed throughout much of last season. If not quite, though, our backup tendy Chimkin Tendy should also be another year improved and better able to provide solid relief starts in case things should take a downward turn at some point.

Task #11 - Offseason (3 TPE)

It was a shorter than expected playoffs for Lemo and the Anchorage Armada and now they have plenty of time to mull over what went wrong and why they weren’t able to finish the series against Maine victoriously in any of the three games that they had the chance to. Ending up giving away the puck for the attack that ended the series in Game 7 overtime, Lemo especially feels like he should have been able to do better to prevent this outcome. But he understands that you can’t turn back time and keep holding on to past failures and what matters is what you decide to take from those and how to move on. And what Lemo decided to take as a lesson from this abrubtly ended postseason run is that you can’t take anything for granted before it has actually been achieved and he just needs to keep working harder to ensure that things go the way that he and his team need them to go.

Now in the offseason, Lemo looks forward to fielding queries from SHL scouts and managers and hopes that his earnest but down-to-earth approach on things will convince someone to draft him and maybe some day give him a chance in the real big leagues.

Apart from that, he will be spending most of the offseason at home in beautiful Estonia with his wife and newborn child, but also working out with his personal trainer daily to ensure that he will be in even better shape when it’s time to assume his duties aboard The Boat.

Task #12 - Scouting report (3 TPE)

Lemo Pihl joined the league just as the S55 regular season had gotten underway, missing out on the first two games. Luckily he was signed as a free agent very soon after joining and found a fourth line role playing center on a strong Anchorage Armada team. His template while starting out was the counterattacking forward and that is still his goal - to update towards a balanced build that would make him useful at both ends of the ice. He is dedicated to being a team player first and foremost and has no qualms about putting in the work on lower lines before hopefully working his way up the depth chart as his career progresses.

Lemo has been lucky to have the advantage of the best advice from the Armada coaching team and they have mostly had the same ideas for his progress as he himself. He has been doing the weekly PTs diligently, although he did miss some of the opportunities by joining the league just after the regular season had already started, and has added around 100 TPE during his first season in the SMJHL.

If looking for a slight downside to Lemo Pihl, then it might be his rather low monetary earnings, due to him currently not having too much extra free time left in his life to churn out any media pieces. So it looks like his update progress might become perhaps a little bit slower than some young phenoms, but a reasonably steady one, at least.

Task #3: 2 TPE
Let's take a moment to compare the two starting goaltenders, Cale Adumson, and Mat Smith, from a very lopsided round 2 series of the Newfoundland Berserkers versus the Quebec City Citadelles. In this series, Adumson and the Berserkers defeated the Citadelles four games to none, but the series was really closer than this, and to see this let's take a look at the goalies. Adumson is of course still playing and competing for that Four-Star Cup, and so far these playoffs he has a 10-5 record. Smith, on the other hand, is sporting a 4-6 record. Once you look past this though, things look much closer. Adumson has a .922 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average with 387 shots against, while Smith has a .920 save percentage and 2.98 goals against average with 352 shots against. Both goalies have also been pulled once, but where things really get set apart is Adumson's four shutouts, three of which came in his series against the Citadelles, to Smith's none.

Task #4: 3 TPE
When Quebec City Citadelles starting goaltender Mat Smith is not stopping pucks, his favourite place to be has become the SPA de Québec, an animal shelter in Quebec City. This is where Smith volunteers on his days off, taking the time to walk and exercise the animals, play with them, groom them, and just in general spend time with them. When asked, Smith said he does it because he is passionate about the well-being of animals, and claims he gets as much out of it as they do. This makes sense, since Mat Smith is officially a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, and so it's good for him to socialize. We went through what a day at the SPA looked like: 8 to 8:30: Breakfast. 9 to 11: Exercise, in this case a walk up and down Mont St. Anne. 11:30 to 1: Grooming and cleaning. 1:30 to 4: General play time. 4:30 to 5: Supper.

Task #5: 3 TPE
Centre: Mats Marner (NL): This shouldn't be a huge surprise. Mats Marner was absolutely dominant in the regular season, with a league-leading 32 goals and 62 points in 50 games played. He slowed down slightly in the playoffs but still Marner is a great player for any team to build around.
Left Wing: Victor Ball (MET): Victor Ball has been playing as 2nd line left winger in Maine, behind Kyle Sutton, but Ball goes on this team because he is much more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, which means that his play would compliment Mats Marner extremely well. Ball also adds grit to this line, with 42 hits in the playoffs alone.
Right Wing: Ryuuji Minamino (NL): Minamino is on this list mainly because of his insane chemistry with Mats Marner that we saw in the regular season. With Minamino and Ball's playmaking abilities, Marner's goal scoring abilities, and Ball's grit, this line would be unstoppable.
Left Defense: PBJ Souppan (NL): In the regular season, nobody ate up more minutes than Newfoundland's PBJ Souppan. He also showed his incredible offensive abilities. In the playoffs, his offense dropped a bit, but his defense became a lot stronger and took its place.
Right Defense: Valentin Kalashnikov (MET): Kalashnikov is among the best defensemen in the league defensively, and he also has decent offensive ability. He is also able to play big minutes, and would be an excellent compliment to Newfoundland's Souppan. Souppan's offensive abilities combined with Kalashnikov's defensive abilities would be reminiscent of Erik Karlsson and Marc Methot in the National Hockey League.
Goalie: Cale Adumson (NL): Maine's Leo Bloomfield is currently doing better in the playoffs, with a .930 save percentage against Newfoundland's Cale Adumson's .922, but in the regular season Adumson was much, much better. He had a .917 save percentage to Bloomfield's .902, and had a much better record at 26-8-5, including 6 shutouts, compared to Bloomfield's 18-17-3, with only 2 shutouts. And speaking of shutouts, Adumson currently has 4 in these playoffs while Bloomfield only has 1.

I enjoyed this new format, I have no point of reference to other formats since I wasn't around for any others but I liked this one. Every team being in the playoffs was good because long offseasons are no fun, and the main reason to join a simulation hockey league is to have fun. Having every team in the playoffs also allows for upsets like Quebec over Anaheim in round 1, which just makes things more interesting. The bye system was interesting since it ended up being the #5 seed that had the bye instead of the #4 seed, so I would maybe make it the top two teams in each conference instead of the top team in each division. The conference finals also being #1 versus #2 and #4 versus #6 was strange, and so maybe something should be changed there. All in all though I enjoyed these playoffs and wouldn't complain too much if the format remained the same.

Task #8: 3 TPE
Overall I'd say this season went pretty well. I'd split it up in three sections, the first being the first three quarters of the regular season, which were good, the last quarter of the regular season, which was awful, and the playoffs, which were amazing. Before the start of the season, I set goals for myself, and I ended up meeting just one out of three of them. I wanted to have a save percentage above .900, which I got with a .905; I wanted to have a goals against average below 3.50, which I missed with 3.91; and I wanted a shutout which I didn't get. Missing the GAA goal can be blamed on the last quarter of the season that I mentioned earlier, as I was well below 3.50 before I started to fall apart at this point (I was also sitting around a .916 save percentage). Now the playoffs were great because this is when I cemented myself as starting goaltender, and I also was able to help my team win a series. Unfortunately in the 2nd round we got swept by the Berserkers, but I was happy with my performance, as I got a .920 save percentage and 2.98 goals against average. (Anyone can read more about how my season went here)

Task #9: 2 TPE
A group of vikings would beat a bunch of lumberjacks in a fight pretty easily. Vikings are trained warriors, complete with weapons and armour including helmets with horns on them (I know real vikings never actually wore helmets with horns on them but it's still bad ass). On the other hand, lumberjacks, while strong from cutting down trees, are just your average people with woodcutting axes, plaid jackets, and beards. I'd also argue that the vikings' beard game would be much stronger. I will say that I think the strongest and best lumberjack could probably beat the weakest and worst viking, but with an average one from each side, it would be no contest for the viking.

Task #10: 3 TPE
For season 56, the Quebec City Citadelles will have much to look forward to. Most players on the team were drafted into the SMJHL in season 55, so the TPE gains this offseason will be great and by the midpoint of next season, the Citadelles should be a team of mostly 350-capped players. The Citadelles will be losing one major thing that will hurt their team greatly, star centre Alexander Roach, but the player progression from the rest of the team should make up for this loss as they try to build on their successes from season 55. By the time season 57 rolls around, Quebec City will have become an absolutely dominant force, with no important pieces being lost at the end of season 56. Most of the team at this point should be getting close to their 425 cap, which means that almost all of the Citadelles roster will be made up of star players. One way to look at this team is that season 55 was an earthquake which will cause waves in season 56 and a tsunami in season 57.

Task #11: 3 TPE
This offseason, Mat Smith will be busy spending time working on his attributes, such as his blocker side, glove side, positioning, rebound control, recovery, low shots, and of course reflexes. He will be looking to come back next season stronger than ever so that he can achieve the new goals he's set for next season: A save percentage above .910, goals against average below 3.50, and at least one shutout. He's also gonna be playing for team British Islands in the World Juniors so look out for him there. In real life, I'm starting the first of three semesters of university after spending the last three years in college for marketing. The end goal here will be to get my honours bachelor of commerce, with a focus on marketing. If any SHL GMs are reading this, this won't really affect how active I am here too much, you should definitely draft me.
Word count: 152

Task #12: 3 TPE
No matter where I (Mat Smith) go in the season 55 SHL entry draft, I want to be seen as a draft steal. This is often the case with young goaltenders, as seen by National Hockey League legends Dominik Hasek going in the 10th round in 1983, Henrik Lundqvist going in the 8th round in 2000, and Pekka Rinne going in the 8th round in 2004. The list goes on but I'll stop at 3. I want to be seen as this type of goalie that comes out of seemingly nowhere and takes the league by storm. My account being created during this season will also probably make me go a little bit later, since I won't have quite as much TPE as someone who made their player a couple weeks earlier, or the reputation of someone who's been around for years and has gone through the careers of other players. To whichever team that drafts me though, I will be able to add a solid presence in nets though, especially in a few seasons once I am a little bit more developed, and I can be active in a locker room.
Word count: 192

Task #13A: 1 TPE
Coolest name in the series has to be Berserkers' backup goaltender Júnior Guarda. He is only barely part of the series, playing less than a minute in relief of starter Cale Adumson, and allowing a goal on his only shot against for a save percentage of 0 and a nearly incalculable goals against average, but "Júnior Guarda" literally translates to "Junior Keeper," which is exactly what he is for Newfoundland. His name will be even better in a few seasons too if he's able to become a starter.
Word count: 88

Task #13B: 1 TPE
I'd give the edge to Leo Bloomfield for MVP, as he has the highest save percentage of any goaltender with over 3 games played in the playoffs, with .930. Adumson comes close with a .922, and a better goals against average, with his 2.01 to Bloomfield's 2.50, but goals against average is more of a team stat. Another point in Bloomfield's favour comes from the fact that he has played 22 games in the playoffs and has never been pulled, while Adumson has played 15 and has been pulled once.
Word count: 90

Task #13C: 1 TPE
For Carolina to get past Newfoundland, they would have had to figure out how to get under Cale Adumson's skin, since they did well to limit the chances of star players like Mats Marner, they just couldn't figure out how to get the puck past Adumson as much as they needed. For Kelowna to get past Maine, they would have had to figure out why Leo Bloomfield is playing so much better in the playoffs, what made him play poorly in the regular season, and use this to score at a higher volume.
Word count: 93

Task #13D: 1 TPE
The key to Newfoundland's success this season was absolutely centreman Mats Marner. He was an incredible goal scorer with a league leading 32 goals, and proved to be a non-one-dimensional player with 30 assists on top of that, to also lead the league in points with 62. The key to Maine's success this season was their role players, as they had people like Valentin Kalashnikov who wasn't afraid to drop the gloves, and rivaled Quebec's Boris Petrov for best enforcer in the league.
Word count: 83

Task #14: 3 TPE
The Newfoundland Berserkers have won the Four-Star Cup, let's go back and take a look at what went right for them. First off, they changed up their lines, which was a risk, and sacrificed explosive star power for more depth. In the regular season, centre Mats Marner and right winger Ryuuji Minamino were Newfoundland's top scorers, and there was a significant drop off after that, but after shuffling the lines, the Berserkers found that their regular season depth pieces such as left winger Steve Harrington, right winger Andrei Kostitsyn, and centre Guy LeGrand led their team in scoring. Next, goaltending remaining consistent through the playoffs was a huge factor in their victory, as Cale Adumson was able to top a .917 save percentage and 2.06 goals against average from the regular season with a .924 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average in the playoffs. Finally, the playoff format helped the Berserkers as they started off with a relatively easy matchup against the Quebec City Citadelles, which boosted everyone's confidence moving into their round 2 matchup against the #2 seeded Carolina Kraken. This was enough momentum to get past the Kraken in 7 games, which also boosted the Berserkers' confidence moving into the finals.

Requirements: 150+ words.

Overall, I think Sarah Burke had a pretty good season with the Vancouver Whalers. While she didn't hit any of the milestones for the season (which was a little disappointing from a personal perspective), I think she still had a worthwhile impact over the 50 games she played on the blue line. She had the 7th most takeaways for the Whalers, and also logged 36 hits and blocked 35 shots. Burke also had an impact on the offensive side of the puck, notching 4 goals and 9 assists on her resume, finishing the regular season with 13 points. In round one of the playoffs against the St. Louis Scarecrows, Burke set the tone for the sweep that was to come by scoring the first goal for the Whalers in the first game. Her performance during the rest of playoffs could have been better, but it was an exciting moment nonetheless. Going forward as Burke continues to develop, I hope she can nail some of those milestones and really prove her worth to the team in more ways than one.

Who would win in a fight between an actual real group of Berserkers (Vikings) and a squad of Timber-making Lumberjacks? Would the brute force of the Vikings win out, or would the honed skills of tree-cutting give the other axe-experts an edge? All variables for said fight are up to your discretion.
Requirements: 100+ words.

It's laughable to think anyone would choose timber-making lumberjacks over a group of Vikings. For one, Vikings are actual trained warriors with proper weapons who specialize in raids and strive to exploit others' weaknesses and find glory in battle. Let's say for a moment that lumberjacks have a chance, though. Vikings are also lumberjacks - where do you think they got the wood to build all of those amazing boats, sculptures, and cool wagons and stuff? If I had to pick between a Viking that has experience with a sharp axe but knows how to use it on more than just wood, and a normal lumberjack who probably hasn't had to wield an axe outside of the woods, I would definitely still pick the Viking to win.

It was exciting for Sarah Burke to make it into the playoffs in her debut season with the SMJHL. Getting blown out in the second round was a little bit of a letdown in some ways, but almost a relief in others. It was a whirlwhind of a rookie season with a lot of ups and downs, so she was really looking forward to getting some alone time to herself to reflect on things - especially before the excitement around the SHL draft really vamps up. While she's spent a fair amount of time talking to some prospective teams for the big league and getting some more training in, she has also taken several opportunities in the off season to just get to know Vancouver and British Columbia overall a little bit better. Some of the highlights in her relaxing off-season so far include a visit to the Butchart Gardens, going on a whale watching tour, and spending some time in the mountains out near Whistler.

Dear diary,

Last month, the Citadelles hired me as head of marketing. I lied on my resume and listed my mom as a reference under "head of marketing - bell canada". My first task was to come up with an item to give the fans during our home games during the playoffs. I thought we would be eliminated in four games so I made something pretty expensive. It was a fur hat, made of synthetic fur of course, in the shape of an owl. So I guess it was more of a feather hat... except the feathers weren't feathers. They were fur.

Anyway, the team didn't lose in 4. And I lost my job. They might have to raise the price of tickets to cover the losses. I'm sorry.

Task #7 - 2 TPE
This season has seen a new 12-team playoff format introduced, which has come full of wacky surprises such as Eastern conference teams playing against Western conference ones before the finals, and a semifinals seeding of 1st vs 2nd  /  4th vs 6th. What is your opinion on the new format? Good or bad?
Requirements: 100+ words.

The point of the SMJHL is to keep people invested in the league so as such I think the idea of having all the teams in the playoffs is a good one. However, it makes the regular season seem kind of useless. It's true you get a better matchup if you finish higher in the rankings but there should be a bigger reward if you don't finish last. It's a pretty minor problem I have with the format though because I think it does keep people more invested if their team is competing for a longer period of time.

I do not enjoy seeing eastern and western teams play against each other, to be honest. I think the league should focus more on building rivalries and those are usually more intense in the playoffs. If you always face the same franchises, it's easier to "hate" them than if you play against a different team every season.

Task #8 - 3 TPE
You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Being a rookie on an expansion team, it was difficult to have goals. I was also the team's first defenseman picked so I was going to have a lot of work to do. With that in mind, I think my -30 is acceptable but I don't want this to happen again. With a little more experienced defense and goalies, I don't think it will but I don't want to kid myself either and think it will be much easier in our second season. Cutting that +/- in half would already be sweet.
There are a lot of things I have to improve to be better. First, I'll need to block more shots. My defensive partner, Yuuto Kira Cloudera Jr., blocked something like 4 times as many shots as me and as a defenseman that was used as much as I was (second most used player on my team), it's embarrassing that I couldn't even get one blocked shot per game. I would also like to get a litttlllee more hits, even if I don't plan on making that a huge part of my game.

Task #10 - 3 TPE
So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

I don't think anyone saw the Québec Citadelles challenging anyone this season, let alone reach round 2 of the playoffs. Although we will be more competitive next season, I think there's still a lot of work to be done to truly be in the talks for the Four Star Cup.

We have needs at every position but I think our most immediate one will be on offense. We're losing our point leader and by far most experienced player, Alexander Roach, who is going up to Buffalo. It's much deserved for him but other people will have to step up to fill the hole he'll leave in our roster. With guys like Tres Sombreros and Zdenko Beranek really stepping up especially later during the season, I think fans have to look forward to what their second year players will do but also the rookies we'll pick up in the draft this year who will have a bigger role than on most other teams.

Task #12 - 3 TPE
Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S56 draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?
Requirements: 150+ words.

A prospect I was excited about before the start of the season was Jasper Maximov of Ukraine and it seems I wasn't the only one since he was drafted as early as the second round by the newly founded Québec City Citadelles. I say was because he failed to meet my expectations this year by being, to put it simply, extremely average.

Just being the son of one of West Kendall's greats, Maria Maximova, put him on the radar of many scouts and experts but he doesn't have the same potential in both ends of the ice as his mother did. He is interesting to watch on offense and he has a great mind to create plays, especially on the powerplay, but I wonder if he'll ever develop in a competent defenseman in his own end. It's difficult to judge because he played on a brand new team so scouts in the SHL will be unable to judge him with the more experienced team he'll get this season.

I see him as a high risk pick for any team but if he can be grabbed in later rounds, he could also be a nice surprise.

I think the best way to give back to the supporters of Nevada is comprehensive booklet of our inaugural season. Since this is our first season ever, I think it’d be a good way to memorialize it, giving the players a spot in team history during a tough start to the organization.

The other bonus to this is fans can get to know the players more. Included in the booklet are pages devoted solely to the backgrounds of every player. This is especially useful since quite a few of the Battleborn players joined thru signings that occurred in the middle of the season. The ultimate hope is that this drums up interest in the players going into the teams second season.

After the first few games, I talked to our merchandising director in Anchorage about an article I wanted to push and promote, a spiral-bound notebook. The cover has the logo all over it, and the faces of this years rookie class are on it too. The reason was easy, I wanted to make it easier for the scouts to remember what guys they have to watch. That way, they get reminded who the really important players are on the ice for them. Though I‘m not sure how many scouts bought the notebook in the end. But the spiral-bound notebook is seen in every class in each and every school in the surrounding of Anchorage. And of course I have one for myself.

Task#4 – 3 TPE

In my home-village in Austria, I‘m also a member of the volunteer fire brigade. At the moment, we are renovating and extending the fire station, as it‘s already pretty old and it got way to small for a proper use. To fund it, we made a charity event before the start of the season. It was a big barbeque to help raise some money. In my village, I‘m of course well known, as everyone knows everyone and the news already spread, that I‘ll start my very first season in the SMJHL. As I was just entering the first season, there wasn‘t much I could do to help raise the funds, but it was a fun event. When I came to Anchorage, I immediately tried to get into contact with the local fire brigade, as it is something I really care about. I attended another charity event there, to help raise the awareness for the heroes in read. In Anchorage, it was far more a factor that I was there, as many kids took the chance and attended this event. I think on that day, the fire brigade found some new fans and maybe future helpers, because I attended it. I‘ll definitely continue to support them.

Task #5 – 3 TPE

My dream team of the finalists this year:
Goalie – Leo Bloomfield: It‘s a tough shot between Cale Amundsen and Leo Bloomfield, but Bloomfield gets the nod. Amundsen had a slightly better regular season, but since playoffs started, Bloomfield popped off.

LD – Mikkel Asmus Sondergard: Sondergard scored 30 points this season, out of them are 22 assists. That‘s a defender you like to have, being a threat in the offense and playing really well on defense. He got an average defensive grade of 74.

RD – Tinke Jutila: Jutila had a very impressive +26 this season, and scored 22 points. He has only 14 giveaways and recorded 25 takeaways. That‘s a player you can rely on.

LW – Kyle Sutton: He is the leader of the Timber. He scored 20 goals and 21 assists, I think any team would be happy if they could call him their player.

C – Mats Marner: No way around building a dream team and not taking Mats Marner as your center. He‘s most probably going to win MVP this season, with 32 goals and 30 assists.

RW – Ryuuji Minamino: Marner‘s genious partner is Minamino, who was the one who came closest to him. The most assists in the league, he is just too good to replace him with any other player on any roster.

Task #6 – 3 TPE
We in Anchorage played the best season in the West. We battled with Kelowna for the first place, and with a strong finish we set apart and only finished three points behind the #1 team in the league. Now that we don‘t follow the East-West separation in the playoffs anymore, we got to play the Maine Timber after our first round bye. They finished 3rd in the East with 53 points. That‘s league wide only the 6th place, tied with the Anaheim Outlaws. Taking a look at the standings and thinking about a playoff in each conference first, we would have faced the Outlaws, if 4 teams make the playoffs and face each other, as we would have been the #1 seed vs #4. But the mode is another one. It doesn‘t matter, we should have won the duell against Maine either way, with the seasons we played up to then. We outshot them in every game, and even led the series already with 3-1. Bloomfield turned into a beast and didn‘t let us score anymore, whereas Scoochie turned his MVP worthy regular season around and wasn‘t able to keep the goal clean anymore.

Task #9 – 2 TPE
You ask me how a fight between an actual group of Berserkers aka Vikings and a squad of Timber-making Lumberjacks would go? That‘s an easy one I think, and it‘s not the Berserkers who would be able to come out with a win. Just think about it. On the one side, there are axe-wielding wildlings, known for their brute force and strength. Sounds scary indeed. But on the other side you have Lumberjacks, and Lumberjacks aren‘t just axe-wielding monstrosities. They have more in petto than just some lame axes. Every heard of chainsaws? You know how long the sword of a chainsaw can be in timberworks? That range of a modernized weapon will be deadly for the Vikings, who are specialized on close combat.

Task #8 - 3 TPE
I believe I performed well but not better than that. Simonsson had an incredible start to his SMJHL career, posting up 11 points in his first 19 games. It looked like he was poised to hit near 30 points on the year from Detroit's third line which would be an absolute feat. Unfortunately that did not happen. As Detroit faltered so did Simonsson, posting up only 5 more points in the remaining 31 games. He looked tired, but not just that, he looked like he was forcing his play. Simonsson ended the year with a 6% shooting percentage and around 100 shots only resulting in 6 goals. He was firing everything on net in an attempt to drive offense, but ultimately it did not matter. Simonsson expects next year to get his stamina to a point that he can go an entire season without falling off. Get a better shooting accuracy to convert those shots. At a normal shooting percentage of 9% let's say, Simonsson would have an additional 3-4 goals to add to his point tally putting him near 20 points. As well, more likely shots get into better areas for the rebounds putting more assists into his total too.

Task #10 - 3 TPE

This team is so young, so vibrant, and ready for anything. Detroit was a dominant force recently, and now are coming up to a downswing, as many of their top players have graduated to the SHL. In the recent two years the team has picked up some insane talent, but the talent is raw, and it is young. The SMJHL has changed over time, no longer can a young team take the league by storm, it takes time. Players are now spending 4 seasons in juniors, meaning the older players will always reign supreme over the young ones. This means rebuilding teams will take 3-4 years to truly be competitive. Detroit is exactly that, they have so much experience and building times to look forward to. The team is young and hungry and I believe in the next 2 seasons they will be lead to a Four Star Cup built on the experience of their young players in the moment. Nour will help lead them to the promised land

Task #11 - 3 TPE

Yngve Simonsson has not gone home since before the end of last season. Having played in Sweden junior divisions for the last few years he has not been far from home, but that changed in the offseason prior to him actually joining the SMJHL. Yngve planned to enjoy his offseason, train, observe the SMJHL draft from home (at the time he did not expect to go in the first round). Instead he got a call from the Sweden World Junior squad asking him to join the team. That raised his draft stock and gave him some valuable playing time before the season started. Because of that, he hasn't had a chance to relax. With Detroit knocked out of the playoffs early, Simonsson enjoyed a few well deserved weeks at home with his family, able to regale them with stories about playing in North America. The fun was short lived however, as again he got a call from Team Sweden to join them for the World Junior Championships in the coming weeks

Task #13 - 4 TPE
A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).

Liam Slate. The reason Liam Slate has the best name is because it is the name that was given to the cutest boy of all time. Now I agree, nothing to do with the player itself so let's break down the name. Liam comes from the old Irish name Uilliam. Who doesn't love the Irish? Other than the English. Also, Slate comes from Slate!

B. Leo Bloomfield and Cale Amundsen have both been fantastic these playoffs, putting up numbers that can make a case for either to be the playoff MVP at this stage. Who has the edge in goal for this series?

I'm gonna have to go with Cale Amundsen on that one, Bob. You know why? I'd say it's mainly because Newfoundland won the series 4 to 2 which caused Amundsen to win the series giving him the ultimate edge over Bloomfield. Also his GAA was lower which is great to see. Amundsen has a lower SV% but does have to face less shots and was big when it counted

C. You're in another timeline where Carolina and Kelowna are the two cup finalists. What went right for them in this timeline's semis compared to ours where they lost?

The big change for Kelowna would be that they win game 7. Ultimately, in a series, if you lose game 7 it's going to mean that you lose the series. As such, I'm going to say that game is in MUST WIN territory. And for Carolina, I'm going to have to say winning game 7. While game 7 isn't the be-all-end-all for a series, I believe winning it would have provided them with a much better chance at advancing to the SMJHL finals.

D. We've been talking about the playoffs, but it's performance throughout the season that helped even get our finalists into the playoffs here. Who was the key player to success for either team (or both) during the regular season and why?

Mats Marner is the biggest factor to Newfoundland during the year, his season was incredible, giving life and strength to NL the whole season with 62 points elevating himself above everyone else in the league. For Carolina it was absolutely Grimstad's ability down the middle to provide strength and scoring when they needed it most.

Task 5: 3 TPE

Right Wing - Andrei Kostitsyn Berserkers
Very good shooting percent (22.2%) for best Newfoundland scorer in playoffs. 8 goals together with 9 assist tied him first in Newfoundland with 17 points averaging him one point per game.

Center - Mats Marner  Berserkers
Who wouldn't have best offensive player of regular season in his team. In playoffs he still got very decent 14 points (6G + 8A) with game rating 62 in 17 games.

Left Wing - Kyle Sutton Timber
Player that was hot almost whole playoffs. 26 points (16G + 10A) in 24 games put him on top of scorer list and a big reason why Maine got to finals. Shooting percent 23.5% is also awesome for a guy that fired 68 shots (most in playoffs).

Right Defender - Adrik Baranov Timber
This seems to be best right defender (tbh there are few better LD both teams). 12 points (5G + 7A) with massive 56 shots (1st in all defenders) and +/- at +12 makes him perfect partner for defender with awesome defensive ratingthat is listed bellow.

Left Defender - Will Windsor Timber
A guy what had 100 defensive game rating in two playoff games and 75 defensive rating in whole playoffs. 13 points (3G + 10A), +/- at +14 and 84 blocked shots (2nd best in playoffs had 45). All this numbers makes him a must have defender playoff dream team.

Goalie – Leo Bloomfield Timber
Goalie that leads in almost all statistics aspects (yes he also played by far most playoff games) and a biggest reason why Maine got that far. You just can't overlook that he had over 0.965 SV% in more than five games and whole playoff SV% of 0.928% stopping more than 800 shots and game rating 81.

Task 8: 3 TPE

In Preseason I got my first taste of hockey and was almost completely lost. Playing in 4th line I didn't get any point, but did got some experience and confidence for regular season. In 3rd round of regular season I got my first point and started to get hungry for hockey and points. Regular season was long and tiring, especially since soon in season I was moved into 3rd line and logging much more ice time. I had some ups and downs, but I found out that playing hockey is what I want to do for my living in future. Regular season ended for me with 17 points (5G + 12A) and very good faceoff win percentage. Since I played in newly established team, team and I started playoffs very motivated to get out first playoff win. In first round of playoffs against Anaheim I played best hockey of my short career getting 4 points (2G + 2A) in six games. Very good performance in second playoff game brought me 3rd star of that game. In second round of playoffs Newfoundland showed me in four games why I still need to work a lot and improve since easily swept us with 4:0. Overall I am happy with my performance and improvement in my rookie season and very motivated to get to next level in near future.

Task 10: 3 TPE

For sure there are exciting times in front of Quebec City Citadels. As expansion team 4-star cup next season is probably an illusion; most of Quebec players are rookies. But lots of those rookies are training very hard. If they continue to do so and with some luck in this years draft Quebec can be serious 4-star cup contender in two or three seasons. For next season Quebec should continue to improve and goal would be to keep core of all those young players together, keep them motivated for training and also earning some money on side. As a team, players will need to take load that Alexander Roach (who was by far greatest player) was carrying ,on their shoulders. Improving defense and make life easier for our goalies would be important too. With better skills, better performances will come, motivation and self confidence will only go up. More points will also bring higher playoff seed and better chances to progress into finals. But to win 4-star cup you need to be able to win against any team that comes across.

Task 11: 3 TPE

After Quebec had been eliminated in 2nd round, Jst Maro had enough of ice, skates and low temperatures and just wanted to go somewhere warm. First stop was Africa where for one week he walked barefooted on beach, swam in warm sea and enjoining warm and dry weather. Whatever happened at bar and his bungalow at night will stay in Africa and is not for public. After relaxing and setting his mind of hockey he traveled to his home country Slovenia. Parents and friends were very happy to see him. Finally home made food was on plate, familiar tasting beer in glass and no wonder Jst Maro gained a pound or two. In Slovenia Jst Maro did something that he dreamed about for a long time, that is parachute jump. Flying with plane was the easy part while jumping out of it with only backpack is scary, but Maro boldly jumped out and enjoining one of best 15 minutes of his life. Week before off season will be over Maro will fly back to Quebec and go to gym to get back in shape.

Task 13 b: 1 TPE

They both had an awesome playoffs but I will have to go with Leo Bloomfield. Since he was playing for weaker team his numbers are out of this world. His 800+ saved shots and 0.928 SV% earned him game rating of 81. On average he faced 10 more shots each game (36-26) that is why he have higher GAA but it is still just a bit above 2.50. I believe his contribution to team to reach finals was larger than Amundsen's.

Task 16: 3 TPE

Verification: massive
