CENTERS
Code:
Daniil Nikiforov
Goals   Assists  Points  PIM  PPP SHP SH%
18         21     39      16   6   1   17.82%    S55
3           14    17       8    1  1   4.48%     S54
This is a proper improvement from a rookie. Daniil Nikiforov doubled his point total. An issue the team should look out for- that 18% shooting percentage is likely to come down. It is partially a regression to the mean from the 5% Nikiforov shot the year before, but that is unlikely to hold up next season.

Code:
Domenic Alessandrini
Goals   Assists  Points  PIM  PPP SHP SH%
0            0      0      0    0   0   0        S55
8           11      19     12    6   0  10.53%   S54
Despite a very solid rookie campaign,  this player could not make the team out of camp. Domenic Alessandrini is no longer a Whaler.

Code:
Wile Coyote
Goals   Assists  Points  PIM  PPP SHP SH%
8           6      14     4    1   0   17.02%    S55
5           6      11     4     0   0   10.20%   S54
A little improvement from Wile Coyote on this season. A tiny bit of powerplay time (0:03 PPTOI) was added, we can look to see if that affects future seasons. Overall Coyote did improve adding 3 goals, but shot 17% which may regress next season.

WINGERS

Code:
Jason Desrouleaux
Goals   Assists  Points  PIM  PPP SHP SH%
16          7      23     10    6   0   13.79%    S55
7           8      15     4     1   0   14.89%     S54
Jason Desrouleaux was a riser this season. Given some powerplay time he answered the bell with 3 PPG and 3 PPA on the year. His shooting percentage stayed around even which is a good sign.

Code:
Devin Basher
Goals   Assists  Points  PIM  PPP SHP SH%
2           19     21     20    1   0   2.27%    S55
2           7      9      6     0   0   3.51%     S54
A big improvement in the assist totals for Devin Basher, but ouch, somebody should teach him how to shoot a bit. Nobody's shooting percentage should be that low back to back years.. Powerplay time didn't even do much for his numbers, the 5v5 totals improved his scoring in his second year

DEFENSE

Code:
Johnny Shuffleboard
Goals Assists Points Shots PIM PPP SHP SH%
  4      15     19     74   24  7   0  5.41%    S55
  4      17     21     76   24  3   2  5.26%    S54

Which one of these two is the better player? Hint: The wrong one. It's the second player.
Why would a player not improve on his rookie season? The Whalers may just be wondering the same question.  The player above, Johnny Shuffleboard barely changed his stats from S54 to S55. In S55 there aso is a bit of a reliance on special teams points. Shuffleboard may seem even worse next season.

Code:
Lonnie O'Donoghue
Goals Assists Points Shots PIM PPP SHP SH%
  4      11     15    70   34  0   0  5.71%   S55
  0      8      8     44    25   1   1  0%     S54
The last Vancouver rookie is Shuffleboard's partner Lonnie O'Donoghue. Coming off his rookie season where he basically did nothing, O'Donoghue became a higher impact player, putting up 4 goals and 3 more assists than his first season. He also took an extra 9 PIM. It may have been a long wait for the first goal, but he got it in his second season with the Whalers. You can't shoot 0% forever as they say.

This Whaler class is shaping up to be very good. A solid depth center in Coyote, a top flight center in Nikiforov (already paseed 425), a top flight winger in Devin Basher (already passed 425), a rising winger in Jason Desrouleaux (should be 425 for S56) a rising star d-man Johnny Shuffleboard (should pass 425 for S56), and a rising d-man Lonnie O'Donoghue.
Heading into their third season a young core like this makes Vancouver a very dangerous team. They have a full line of actives from this, the S54 draft, as well another center. A great draft by the Whalers can have this team ready for more than the quarterfinals next season.
