if i was a free agent with a big contract who wanted a job in a time where teams had trouble signing big contracts, i would simply not be an unrepentant dickhead to every other team in the league (and people on my own team, sometimes) for two straight years.

I think a good example of this is Jiggly. I don't think Jiggly necessarily did anything wrong, they weren't racist, homophobic, not even remotely. All-in-all they were a good person. They were just a bit... Annoying? And locker room dynamic is so important it's hard to add someone who might knock off the balance of a discord channel into a team. Add on top that Cain is expensive and teams have goalies, and it became a hard sell. I'm sure there were 2-3 teams that looked into it that were strapped. The other teams stayed away due to LR dynamics. It's a unique situation for sure. I don't think it's entirely Cain's personality and I don't think it's entirely his salary. It's a super awkward combo of both

recovering from a condition that affects only yourself directly is not the same as saying a homophobic slur which affects an entire community

I don't personally still hold a grudge over it but there are plenty of people that do and its slash's job to prove himself, not everyone else's job to forgive him.
