S56 SMJHL PT #3 - Adversary Analysis
#31

Hugo Grönroos is currently enjoying his time in the Alex Moran role for the Zerkers. However, unlike the hard partying back up quarterback character of Blue Mountain State, Grönroos isn't actually a netminding savant that hangs out in the wings for that trickle down pussy. No, Grönroos actually just sucks out loud and it doesn't matter who they play. Hugo donates W's to all the less fortunate squads out there. He's a whole soup kitchen between the pipes. Kelowna? He takes the L. Vancouver? Hugo loves oceanic conservation. Maine? The only thing cringier than their goal song is Hugo's attempt to keep it from playing. You see, Hugo has no rivals. No adversary, no thorn in his side. He stands alone at the bottom, King Plug. An incomparable wall of swiss cheese. Hugo works to one day reverse the role he's found himself in, to climb the ladder, but he's a realist. For now, he chips away at the glacier he faces, accepting his role as professional sieve. Things change though. Things change fast.

The Kelowna Knights have had a bear of a time dealing with the Vancouver Whalers this season, dropping all 4 matches versus the club to date. Being outscored 17-6 across the 4 matches has shown the Knights that defeating the Whalers is a difficult task indeed. And while Cian McFelter was able to score against the hated Whalers in their last match, a 4-1 defeat, the Knights continue to struggle against them. One of the reasons for these struggles might be the strength of the Whalers defensemen. With their best being a 800+ TPE RD and several others being over 500+ TPE, their ability to shut teams down is complimented well by their play in the offensive zone. The Knights are improving as much as possible, but it seems they will need to work that much harder to beat their rivals out in Vancouver in any of their three remaining matchups.

The Quebec City Citadelles had a rough start to the Season 56 SMJHL Regular Season, starting off with three losses in a row on the first day and subsequently two more over the following 2 days. 3 of these 5 losses ended up being decided by one game, which kept the teams spirits high despite the difficulty of taking 5 losses to start the season. As the season progressed, however, the Citadelles have started to slowly rebound and work their way up the standings. Now at 24 games played, they have an underwhelming 8-14-2 record, but considering their start this is a vast improvement. Quebec as a team didn’t seem to struggle against one particular team or player, but rather they seem to get in their own way a lot of the time. Examples include rookie free agent, Mikael Koskinen, who has had a shit start to his career putting up 2 points in 24 games. However, player like Stan Q. Next and Jst Maro have taken this team under their wings and have led the team in scoring. Goaltenders Tyler Ward and Mat Smith have also contributed a lot to the team, shutting down the opposing teams attack regularly.

Wen Baters and the Detroit Falcons would have plenty of games to choose from on the poorly side, and they had multiple games early in the season where they completely failed to score, but a big one was against the Anchorage Armada where the team got blanked while conceding 4. While this isnt the worst result on the scoresheet, a shot deficit of 50 to 18 is pretty horrendous. For Baters specifically, he did almost nothing on the ice offensively, took a penalty in the 3rd period and had a DGR of only 62, which is pretty mediocre to below average for a defenseman of his caliber. Some players did much worse, such as Mikhail Borisnoff, Tyler Burnett and notably the usually reliable Oskar Baldus, all having less than a 50 game rating. Overall, it really personifies the early season struggles of the Falcons that has snowballed into the horrible season the Falcons are so far having.

Farley Hank has had pretty decent start to his season, while his overall game rating has been pretty mediocre, and his offensive game rating has been pretty disappointing overall, his defensive rating has been definitely something to be happy with. Though it has seemed that despite the Outlaws lead in record over the Anchorage Armada, Farley Hank has consistently performed worse against the team versus any other. The teams has also been pretty much neck and neck against each other with a record of 2-2 against each other. The first being a total blowout by the Anaheim Outlaws scoring 7-1 over the course of the game. And despite this Farley Hank had a overall game rating of just 53, though he did manage to pick up an assist during the game. His next game against the Armada would be another Outlaw win though Hank would have just an 43 overall game rating.
