Ep 3 : Halfway There
Wooooooaaaah, livin' on a prayer!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Already half of the season is passed. Some people decide to see it negatively, but I'm a glass half-full kind of guy, the remaining games to be played and progress to be made can only be full of surprises. Half season also means trade deadline. This Sunday, at noon, will be the deadline for new players to join the S57 draft class. After that, the stage is set for the current draft class to excel as the next generation of players to eventually play in the SHL. Of course, the trade deadline will also be an opportunity for actual trades to happen. A change of team can be a big factor for a prospect on how hard he trains, what attributes he upgrades and how his stats are impacted. So stay tuned for any trades occurring in the SMJHL as they very well may impact the outcome of the rankings! Previous articles [1] How are prospects evaluated? Part 1 : Link [2] How are prospects evaluated? Part 2 : Link Weekly Article [3] The SHL GMs Scouting Process Thanks to anonymous tips from renowned sources in the SHL community, let's take a closer look at how and when the SHL scouts will start making decisions on how they will use their picks. As you may know, some SHL GMs have already reached out to some prospects, to gauge the personality and potential fit in their rosters. If you haven't been contacted yet, no need to panic. Most scouting done now isn't necessarily reaching out to the prospects, but it's more about acquiring data about the future players. For instance, some GMs have automatic scouting tools to scrape data and gather as many information as possible on players. Information such as bank account, most recent post, last online and total TPE. Any data that translates to activity and hard work is registered. Of course, that is the longest process. After that, GMs will evaluate which players would fit their needs and they start contacting players. Usually most of the contacting is done at the week of the draft or the week before, so keep working hard to impress those GMs and remember there's no need to panic if you have not been contacted yet. As we get closer to the draft, trades, signings, retirements and much more will influence SHL GMs needs. It's also worth remembering this before checking out the TPE rankings. Expect the S57 SHL Draft to be full of surprises and the rankings probably will not reflect who will get picked by who accurately, but the big picture of the "Best available player" in terms of TPE is depicted in those rankings. Talk about working hard. Mihailov went from 52th in the rankings, to 37th, and now 26th. The Vatican native is showing constant progress and clearly wants to be noticed in the upcoming draft. The free agent is aiming for a top spot in the draft, and he is getting noticed for sure. Despite playing under 10 minutes on average this year, Mihailov has a GR, OGR and DGR* of above 50. We can only imagine him getting more ice time and have a good boost in stats with such improvement. Keep an eye on Anton Mihailov until the end of the year!

Welcome to the top 10, Dwayne Gretzky! The Trenton native showed great stability since drafted in the SMJHL as 17th overall. We saw him ranked 19th in week 1, then 16th in week 2, but did not expect the huge leap in the top 10. The Berserkers left winger is aiming to be picked in the first round with such improvement, and you can bet the SHL will notice the progress. Gretzky did the most with whatever he had. Playing only with 7:50 of TOI, he has 6 points and a mind-boggling 14.29% shooting percentage. Who knows what he can do with more ice time? Whatever stats he may register in the coming weeks, Dwayne Gretzky is close to the 250 TPE mark and is sure to be a contender for the 1st pick in the S57 Draft.

A big leap in the rankings for the 28th pick overall in the S56 SMJHL Draft. St. Louis drafted not only a hard worker, but a tremendous player on the ice. Fedorov has a GR of 60, and a 65 in DGR. Add to that 10 points in 26 games, and you get a complete player in his first year, with much more to offer. The Moscow native is a proven SHL member in the community, he has shown active in the past and in the present, and this will make him a very interesting prospect in the draft. No doubt such a quality could make him a possible top pick if he keeps up the hard work, which there is no doubt. Keep an eye on Fedorov on the ice, in training, and in the community.
BONUS ANALYSIS
Now the "Prospects to watch" section is dedicated to the week's biggest leaps in the rankings and remarkable hard workers. Due to this, however, some of the higher prospects are forgotten sometimes despite their strong work ethic. There is one player in particular who deserves an analysis for sure.

I had to check 2 or 3 times if Jon St. Ark really was a first year player. St. Ark has been constant as a top 5 pick, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the conversation for 1st pick overall. The Vancouver Goalie is active, constant in his TPE updating, but mostly WHAT. A. SEASON. SO. FAR. 0.930 SV%. 1.61 GAA. 10 wins in 13 games. 74 GR. The numbers speak for themselves. The goalie from Austria has a strong positioning, and is displaying some elite goaltender skills as such a young age. Make sure to follow the Whalers games, as Jon puts on a hell of a show on the ice.
CLOSING STATEMENT
Thanks for reading, and I hope you appreciated this week's edition. As we keep going into the season, I will concentrate more on the constant TPE gainers more than the rankings changes, to put the spotlight on the higher picks as we approach the draft. The beginning of the season is fun to see the rankings change drastically every week, but as we will slowly see more steady rankings, the storyline will set more in place and I will include more analysis of the top prospects as the drama of who the first pick will be will unfold. As always, feedback is appreciated and taken into consideration. Thanks for the comments in the past weeks.
