Overview:

The Anaheim Outlaws entered the Pacific Coliseum the 2nd overall team in the league, they were on their 35th game and their record at the time was a strong 23-9-3. And they were without a doubt up against their toughest opponent, the undeniable top team in the league, the 29-8-0 Vancouver Whalers. The Whalers had in fact already faced the Outlaws once just earlier in the season, and as expected the matchup concluded in a dominant 4-2 victory for the Whalers. Though the Outlaws certainly looked to flip the script for the upcoming game.

Summary:

And flip the script they certainly did, the Outlaws seemed to be on fire from the start. It took just 3 minutes and 11 seconds before Anaheim scored their first goal from just their very first shot on net. The opening goal came off a deflection in front of the net created by Thomas Rose for his 13th goal of the season. The shot came off an Michael Scotch Slap-shot from the point, also earning his 11 assist of the season. It didn't take long for the Outlaws to strike again, just 22 seconds later they scored off their 2nd total overall shot on net. This goal came off a breakaway created by two key passes from Thomas Rose and Ryu Jones earning their 19th and 20th assists respectively. The breakaway goal was scored by Farley Hank of all skaters who earned his 5th goal of the season. The next goal was also scored by the Outlaws with 1 minute and 9 seconds left in the frame. The goal was jumpstarted by a Vancouver slashing penalty from Luffy Richard. And from the opening faceoff, all it took was James Boxman faceoff win and it was all too easy for John Donair to put the puck into the back of the net. In the 2nd frame, the Outlaws offense was largely derailed by 3 Anaheim penalties. And though the Outlaws managed to keep the Whalers with 0 goals through the first two periods, the pressure eventually broke through in the 3rd frame in which Vancouver scored their first and last goal of the game. With 2 minutes and 24 seconds into the last frame, Rotticous Scott, while earning his 18th assist, passed the puck to waiting Lonnie 'O Donoghue in front of net, who scored just his 2nd goal of the season by putting it past the previously perfect Keisuke Suzuki. The rest of the last period went scoreless until in the last 38 seconds, Herbert Andrews scored his 10th goal of the season on an open Vancouver net.

Review:

While the Whalers massively outproformed the Outlaws in Shots, Hits, and Takeaways, in the end it proved the Outlaws simply capitalized much better and move the puck around much more efficiently. And while goalie proformance likely played a definite role in the win for the Outlaws, it is worth mentioning the Outlaws were resting their main goalie Vincent Mietitore, and subbing in their replacement Keisuke Suzuki.

Key Anaheim Players:

Thomas Rose - G: 1 / A: 1 / +/-: 2  / SOG: 5 / PIM: 2 / TOT: 18:13
Throughout the game Thomas put up a pretty huge proformance for the Outlaws, though he played a key role in the first frame in taking the lead early for the Outlaws, both scoring a goal of his own, and setting up a teammate.

Ryu Jones - G: 0 / A: 2 / +/-: 2  / SOG: 1 / PIM: 0 / TOT: 20:16
While Ryu Jone's two assists came off a secondary assist, and a primary assist on a open net, Jone's presence on the ice far outweighed his two points. With contributions such as 3 Shots Blocked, 1 Takeaway, and Game Rating of 71, it's clear why Jones made this list.

Keisuke Suzuki - SA: 42 / GA: 1 / SV: 41  / SV%: .976 / GR: 100
I would have liked to see anyone predict a backup goalie out of anyone to put up a perfect game rating against what is undeniably the best team in the league. Regardless Suzuki without a doubt deserves this spot.

Approved, +5 TPE @Beebob
