Jimmy Slothface

This is what we call going all in. the Panthers are trading 2 first round picks and a S46 in Borromini Cannellini, TPE 1149 for Jimmy Slothface another S46, TPE 1964. So probably worth the upgrade. Slothface is signed for two seasons in LA, while Cannellini is a pending UFA (or at least I think, from looking at NOLA budget page?)

New Orleans is 10 points behind Calgary in the Western Conference, while LA is 24 points out. As such this trade seems to make no sense, why would a team so far out trade 2 future picks? While Slothface is signed for next season, there is little guarantee that LA wins anything this year, and that would leave Slothface as a pending UFA.

Slothface is a better player than Cannellini by quite a bit though. Slothface has 17-32-49 line, good for tied for 12th in the league in points. Cannellini has just a 6-7-13 line, and advanced stats don't show him as a particularly good player (Corsi 39.7%, Fenwick 38.5%), while Slothface advanced stats are very good (Corsi 62.9%, Fenwick 62.7%).

The two first round pick are meant to cover that difference. Seems about right. But why is Los Angeles trading their future away for 2 seasons of Slothface?
Now, there is to keep in mind LA also has their own pick in S58, and NOLA did not have a pick in S58 which made that a crucial part of the swap. The S60 pick is the first S60 first rounder to change hands.

RAPID RESPONSE: Trade value seems about right, 2 seasons of Slothface for 2 firsts and a lesser player. The odd part is why NOLA didn't want to push for a long run in the playoffs and why LA thinks they have a chance this year. Trade seems even, but seems backwards. NOLA is the team that should be looking for a rental, not LA.
