Manhattan’s Big Trades Since the S54 Draft – An Infallible Astrological Analysis
By Moonbeam McCoy, Assistant Diviner, NY Post

We are a little past midseason in SHL Season 56.  The standings are falling into place and playoff matchups will soon be determined.  It is a time where the fates transform from predictions to tangible results.  The preseason prognosticators are either lavishing themselves with praise for correctly reading the tea leaves or trying to frantically explain away why their divinations have gone so far off the rails.

I figure, as most writers are focusing exclusively on predictions involving the current season, I would take a little more of a wholistic approach to the construction of Manhattan’s roster.  This will aim to look at some of the recent Manhattan Rage trades that have shaped the current team and the team of the future.  We will take a look at assets acquired, assets traded away, and assets drafted with the plethora of draft picks exchanged.  I will be limiting my analysis back to the S54 draft as dark clouds in my mind currently prohibit me from divining anything useful from trades before that. I also will not be focusing on picks that were traded multiple degrees away from Manhattan, there is far too much chaos in the ether at that point to divine anything useful.

So without further ado, I will gather my crystals and my sage and allow the cards to divine the outcome of these trades.  I will be using a typical Question/Answer diamond spread to determine the pros, cons, and an overall decision on whether the player will work out.  It will not determine the winner of a trade, each player will be independent.

Trade 1:
MAN Receives: TOR S54 3rd  (Becomes [Name Redacted])
TOR Receives: MAN S54 3rd (Becomes Patricia Reichardt), MAN S56 4th (Becomes PASS)

This trade essentially became a swap of S54 3rds with the S56 Reddit draft being a bust.  [Name Redacted] has played 3 SHL games, going 2-1 with a 2.33 GAA and a .868 sv%.  Patricia Reichardt has gone inactive and has not played any SHL hockey.

Name Redacted

Question: Neptune
Neptune, the seventh and farthest planet from the sun, represents both what is hidden from us in darkness and our wildest fantasies.  It generally represents our dreams, what is abstract, and our strength of spirit.
In this case, it seems to make sense that our question will be around whether Name Redacted can live up to his dreams to be a stellar SHL goaltender.  It also seems to call into question whether he has the strength of spirit to slog it out for close to 15 seasons in order to achieve his dreams.  Will he give up, or will he persevere?

Pros: Sagittarius
Sagittarius is the mythical adventurer of the zodiac, always optimistic and looking for new adventures and horizons.  The energy is that of an eternal student, striving to understand and become better on one’s journey.  Generally carefree and outgoing, Sagittarius strives to live life fully and bring along any who care to share in the adventure. Sagittarius dreams big and aims high.

This is a great omen for [Name Redacted] in response to Neptune.  Specifically addressing the dream aspect, this card seems to indicate that [Name Redacted] has big dreams and will strive to achieve them.  It also suggests him to be an eternal student, whether that is learning more about the game or striving for more and more TPE.  It suggests that he is of affable nature, which will do him well in making friendships in the locker room and across the league.

Cons: Mercury
Mercury is the planet of thought, focus, and communication. It is typically tied to a person’s awareness of what is going on around them and their ability to strategize a solution to whatever comes their way.  The planet’s speedy motion around the sun represents our ability to think on the fly and guide ourselves through second to second interactions with the world.  As a great messenger of myth, Mercury also represents our ability to communicate clearly and properly.

This card infers that [Name Redacted], while affable and easy to talk to, may have issues communicating needs and asking for help.  He should be sure to focus on communication as a core tenet of how he approaches the game.  There are a great many hockey minds in this league, and he should be sure to learn all he can from each of them.  This also ties in neatly with the awareness aspect of Mercury… [Name Redacted] is new to the league and may not be aware of much of what goes on.  Communicating with a mentor and asking for help may be his best way to overcome any issues here.

Finally, as this card represents a person’s ability to make decisions on the fly, this may not bode well for him as a goalie.  Goalies are asked to respond on reflexes alone at many points, and if he does not have the ability to quickly react to the play, he may find himself out of the league before he really even gets a chance.  Simply put, Mercury may represent that [Name Redacted] is fucking bad.  He may need to put in extra time at the steroid immersion clinic in order to make up for the fact that he is horrible at hockey.

Answer: Virgo

Virgo is the embodiment of perfection, or the quest for it.  Virgo is the vanguard of hard work, critical introspection, and attention to detail.  Virgo is quick to notice flaws and work to fix them. Virgo is quick to point out anything that is wrong, not out of malice, but out of honest concern for the wellbeing of themselves and those around them. Virgo trashes the notion of lip service and will always follow through to achieve absolute perfection.
There is only one way to read this…. [Name Redacted] is going to work out perfectly.  He certainly has his flaws, but his quest for perfection will not be in vain.  As read previously from Sagittarius, [Name Redacted] will adventure and seek truth through his career.  As long as he is mindful of his flaws and works hard to learn what he can and fix his deficiencies, he will become a perfect fit for the Manhattan Rage.  Manhattan should be excited to have made such a trade.

Patricia Reichardt

Question: Neptune

Just like [Name Redacted], the question surrounding Patricia Reichardt’s success is a question of whether she is dreaming high, and whether she has enough spirit to persevere in this league.  Furthermore, will it help Toronto achieve their dreams?

Pros: Cultivate Strength (Reversed)

Cultivate Strength presents as a reassuring message of self-belief.  It represents inner strength, patience, tolerance, and perseverance.  It shows the ability to continue through immense struggle.  It is a reminder to focus on the things you want to happen, rather than things that you do not, even if it means taking a longer path around.  The power of this card comes from knowledge, wisdom, tolerance, and understanding, rather than from physical force.  Being reversed, this card calls attention to itself, a particular area of focus to meditate upon, perhaps as something that is lacking, or maybe exaggerated.

Patricia Reichardt has not updated in a few seasons and sits at 242 TPE, which appears to be the opposite of perseverance and is most likely the reason for the card’s reversal.  Unless there is a striking reversal in her activity levels, it appears that this is most likely a bust of a pick.  On the surface, this appears to decidedly not be a “pro,” however, the guardian speaking through this deck has chosen to show it as one.  Many possibilities exist for why this may be a good thing…perhaps there would have been team discord in the locker room due to different personalities or competition for spots in the lineup.  Perhaps she would have been a piece in a bad trade for Toronto.  It remains to be seen, but in the context of Toronto’s push for the cup, this seems to be viewed as a good thing by the spirits.

Cons: Libra

Libra represents the scales of balance.  Energies of temperance, grace, and fairness emerge from this card.  It strives to find balance among all energies, and naturally senses good and evil.  While Libra tries to find harmony among all things, in its quest it can also be incredibly indecisive, more focused on weighing options and comparing outcomes than choosing one.  Eventually, a well-thought-out decision is made, but not before causing wear on those around them.

Patricia’s Libra can be thought of two ways.  Firstly, Patricia strongly took balance of work and life into consideration.  The life of an SHL player is extremely demanding, and after a long period of consideration, Patricia instead decided to focus on life outside of hockey.  Libra can also call out indecisiveness in this context, as Patricia waited until after her SHL draft to disappear completely from the game.

Answer: Mars (Reversed)

Mars is the planet of action, passion, and drive.  It represents our core ability to get things done.  It is bold, confident, and active energy.  Mars speaks to the ambitious power of an individual.  In reverse, attention is called to this card, whether it be a lack or overabundance of this fiery red energy.

Clearly, the reversal in this case speaks to how the answer to the question is antithetical to Martian energies.  Patricia Reichardt simply did not have the drive to continue along in her SHL career.  Whether it was for a lack of dream or spirit or for a wholly other reason is unknown, but it is at least tangentally related to her spirit.  Luckily for Toronto, this was a low pick and most likely a flier that she would regain a normal level of activity once drafted, so this is not too big of a loss for them.

Trade 2:
MAN Receives: Geoff Moore
BAP Receives: Derek Bohne Jr., SFP S55 3rd (Traded to Buffalo), Man S56 2nd (Traded to Min), Man S58 2nd

Geoff Moore

Geoff Moore comes in halfway through his career at 694 games played across all leagues, with 111 goals and 306 assists for 417 total points.  Following a season with the Rage he was exposed for the expansion draft and taken by the Atlanta Inferno.

Question: The Moon (Reversed)

The moon is our closest celestial neighbor and as such holds great sway over us compared to the planets.  Aquatic in nature, the moon represents the flow of our internal sea of emotions.  She is the aspect of intuition, instincts, and the subconscious.  The moon controls our inner world, constructing our emotional reactions and life patterns.  In reverse, the Moon calls attention to itself as requiring extra attention.  It can represent a blockage in emotional energies or perhaps an overabundance of them.

While the other readings up until now have primarily dealt with the question of dreams and the spiritual fortitude to achieve them, this reading seems to be more focused on the emotions of Geoff.  The reversal of the Moon seems to indicate that the issue is serious enough to be called out.  This seems to be questioning whether Geoff can keep his emotions in check as he goes through this series of trades and transfers.

Pros: Awareness and Protection

Awareness and Protection presents itself when one is attempting to or has connected with powerful spiritual knowledge.  It represents being open to receive the wisdom and energies of the universe.  The price for this openness, however, is vulnerability.  One who opens themselves up to the tempestuous energies of the universe must be on guard for hexes and other negative energies that might shadow themselves behind the wisdom and awareness.

In Geoff’s case, this appears to represent and awareness that he was brought in perhaps temporarily as an addition to the current Rage team.  It projects a maturity to understand the situation, to make the best of the opportunity that is given, and the emotional temperance to understand that being exposed for the draft is nothing personal, and there is opportunity for him to succeed on that adventure as well.

Cons: Aries

Aries the ram, the great initiator of the zodiac, flame-hearted, fast and furious.  Aries is the aspect of action-oriented people, leaders who act first and adjust later. Exceptionally good at starting things, but often leaving them varying degrees of unfinished. Bold and headstrong, if not balanced by a level of emotional maturity an Aries can result in brash, self-centered behavior which can stress relationships with others.

In this spread, Aries represents Geoff’s compartmentalization of the season into a single event.  He wants to go hard and win a cup but may not be so willing to forge solid friendships for fear of losing them in an expansion draft.  He’ll work hard and fire up the team, and bullheadedly try to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat but may not have a complete emotional connection with the rest of the team.

Answer: Divine Inspiration

Divine Inspiration represents new beginnings, great expectations, potential, drive, and ideas.  It is the source of creativity.  He is the muse.  From Divine Inspiration, the genesis of all endeavors are possible.  It represents the opening of gates and the conscious awareness that the obstacle has been removed to allow a full sprint toward a creative goal.  It is a positive and powerful omen to receive from a reading.

This is incredibly powerful and for Geoff. The guardians indicate that through Geoff’s careful understanding and openness, and through his fire and hard work, he will find his path. He aspires to be a star SHL player, and the universe has plenty of inspiration to provide should Geoff remain open to it.  This reading projects that Geoff is going to be a constant Challenge Cup contender.  Do not expect him to just roll over in his later years.  Geoff has the ability to reinvent himself for the job as long as he keeps his mind and spirit open.

Derek Bohne Jr.

Question: Opportunity for Change
This card indicates that one is at a crossroads…either physically, mentally, or spiritually. It is a call to make changes in at least one of these aspects.  It represents exploration, change, and expansion.  This card often appears as an omen for one to stop and take stock of alternative possibilities in one’s life and to truly consider whether one of them may be a better path.  Often the obstacle of achieving greatness from good is not the failure to intuit where the greatness is, it is instead the fear to make the change. This card is a striking call to action and begs one to view change not as an obstacle but as a personal duty to oneself.

In Derek’s case the guardians seem to be speaking toward a possible opportunity to change either physically or spiritually.  As he left the Rage in this trade, Derek was not known for frequenting the gym or extra practice sessions, topping out at 755TPE 7 years into his career. This card seems to beg the question of whether it is in him to change, to start working out and gaining TPE to further his career. Additionally, one might question whether his spirit is fulfilled by hockey, and whether he aspires here in the SHL or elsewhere.  Perhaps the change may not be one of physicality and may not be one of location, but perhaps of focus in life toward family, hobby, or other vocation.

Pros: Child of the Universe

Child of the Universe is the spirit expressed as wonder, awe, exploration, and anticipation.  It is the seed at the moment of growth, full of life and unlimited untapped potential. It is numerologically related to the number zero and represents a clean slate with boundless potential for growth and success. It is the most powerful card in a celestial deck as it expresses that even the greatest triumphs are born of little more than an idea derived from nothingness.

This is a fantastic omen for Derek and very succinctly describes his situation.  While it would be quite a feat for him to pull off a Hall of Fame career, he could still put together a solid career if he worked to change his training regimen and started to earn more TPE.  His slate has been blank for a while, but that only remains a zero if one allows it to.

Cons: Saturn

Saturn is the furthest planet from Earth which is visible by the naked eye. As such, Saturn represents the boundary of what is earthly from that which is abstract and incorporeal. It is a celestial teacher which teaches us lessons on boundaries and limits. It represents pragmatism and responsibility and karmic life lessons. Saturn is also a barrier which, while it must be respected and keeps us grounded, also must be broken through from time to time in order to achieve higher dreams and goals.

In Derek’s case, he seems to be comfortable within the earthly side of Saturn. He is comfortable sacrificing greater dreams and visions of hockey glory for a grounded experience in the league. He values the friendships and comradery which are part and parcel of the locker room experience much more than chasing cups and glory.

Answer: Journey

The Journey represents the path one has taken throughout their life. From birth to death, we are all on a journey, and the Journey reminds us to reflect on the twists and turns of what has been one’s personal quest through life. It reminds us to remember the grand times as well as to reflect and learn from the times we came up short.

For Derek, this represents a level of introspection he must have to come up with his answer. I predict that Derek has been fine with how his SHL journey has been so far and is not keen to change the way he is. However, he should know that there is still huge potential in him should he reflect on his journey and decide that his path needs to change.

Trade 3:
MAN Receives: Ola Wagstrom
NEW Receives: Rainbow Dash, MAN S55 1st (Guðmundur Kristjánsson), MAN S56 1st (Teylora Petrov), MAN S56 3rd (Traded to LAP)

Ola Wagstrom

What else can be said for Ola Wagstrom, Manhattan trading for a 2000+ TPE scorer is the definition of going in.

Question: Fate

Fate is in the palm of your hands, now it is time to take action.  This card signifies that one is in sync with the universe. It is a positive, karmic card.  It is representative of fortune and fate being on one’s side.  Fate spells out that things are in alignment, and it is up to the person to take stock of their recent life and analyze all the synchronicities that have led them to this point.  This will show what the universe has planned and what actions can be taken to capitalize on this fortune.  Can Ola, who has worked so hard to align their career for this moment in many ways, analyze what needs to be done to cross that line and achieve a Challenge Cup?

Pro: Mars

As mentioned in another reading, Mars is the fierce energy used for achievement of goals.  It is the fire that gets us up in the morning and drives to better ourselves and work toward our dreams.

This is a very obvious pro for Ola, who is a stellar TPE achiever in the 2K club.  His drive and dedication to the game have been apparent to anyone remotely paying attention.  This is quite obviously Ola’s biggest pro, and is 90% of the reason he has come so far and is continuing to challenge for Cups.

Con: Shower of Abundance

The universe is showering its abundance over you, be open to receive it.  It is an omen that your prayers for material abundance have been heard by the cosmos. This indicates that one must trust that the great machinations of the universe are working in sync with your desires, and that one must be patient and open while the Universal Law of Attraction provides your abundance either directly or through opportunity.

Showing in this position, it shows that Ola may not be fully trusting or open to the idea of bounty being provided by the universe, and may choose instead to only trust in his own two hands.  Should victory not be swift, he may find himself frustrated, and rather than keep his eye on what is aligned in his life, may seek to change things to “right the ship.”  This opens the possibility that he may take himself out of alignment with the abundance directed his way.

Answer: Explore

You are being divinely guided to seek new lands, to explore new territories, and to venture into the unknown.  This card suggests that one should diligently study the way of their heart and follow it as closely as possible.  It is an omen that one’s introspection should be trusted above advice from others.  One should carve out their own path rather than following in the footsteps of anyone else.

This seems to point to the fact that Ola, with a ton of TPE at his disposal, has an opportunity to build himself unlike others and still succeed.  While he should indeed work with Manhattan to achieve with his team, he understands what will bring him success.  In order to stay aligned with his coming bounty, he needs to stay the course that follows his own journey.  The universe is working in lockstep with that, and both he and Manhattan will find success should Ola continue this way.

Rainbow Dash

Question: Waning Crescent

This card represents inner strength, compassion, generosity, boundaries, and releasing all that no longer serves you.  This is the harvest moon, the end of a chapter awaiting a light to illuminate the new way forward.  It is a meditative omen, asking one to recognize the end of one chapter and to discard that which may be holding you back from finding or succeeding in your next chapter.  It also begs one to be on the lookout for what the next phase will be…to inquire of yourself and the universe of where your journey will take you next.

For Rainbow Dash, the Waning Crescent represents both the closing of their time in Manhattan as well as illuminating that Rainbow Dash is quickly approaching the end of their career.  A S44 create with 873 TPE left, it will not be long before they are replaced by the younger prospects.  Can Rainbow Dash gracefully transition into and through the end of their career and into life post-SHL?

Pro: Leo

Leo is the lion. Ambitious, loyal and proud.  Leo is a powerful presence which exudes warmth, support, and enthusiasm to all.  Leo is driven by their desire to be loved and desired.  They want to be admired, they want to be the first person that someone calls when needing support or advice.

Leo as a pro for Rainbow Dash suggests that during this transition they will continue to be a positive influence on those around them, and will strive to help make the transition as easy as possible.  Rainbow Dash will not be bitter about the end of their career, and will instead work to make it a fulfilling time in other ways, supporting their team and the young prospects coming up.

Con: Sagittarius (Reversed)

As mentioned earlier, Sagittarius is the adventurer, seeking exploration and knowledge, a great leader on the quest for the next great thing with any who wish to share in the adventure with them.

A reversed Sagittarius in this position indicates that Rainbow Dash may not actively be looking for their next chapter.  They may simply be too busy with their current team responsibilities, or they may be denying the fact that their career is really going to end soon, and that there is an after to consider.  There may be some introspection required in order for Rainbow Dash to fully appreciate what will happen in the coming months and to start illuminating their path forward.

Answer: Balance and Harmony

This card is the energy of unity and balance as well as communication and honesty.  It is an omen that there is a powerful urge in the universe for union within the situation  This is a situation that is centered on a need to maintain harmony.  If centered, there is an opportunity for one to shape wild forces of the universe into something useful.

For Rainbow Dash, this answers whether they will transition gracefully into post-SHL life.  Their constant desire for harmony within the locker room despite the tumultuous forces surrounding the end of their career will allow Rainbow Dash to shape their future into something powerful and constructive. There is no need to fear what comes after, even if it can be painful to look at.  Rainbow Dash will do wonderfully during the last bit of their career and into retirement.

Guðmundur Kristjánsson

Question: First Quarter

In this card the Moon is 1/2 and increasing in illumination. It symbolizes strength, determination, concentration, decision making, re-evaluation and a commitment to action. The seeds you have planted in the past - whether they were happiness, comfort, abundance, prosperity , or creativity - are almost ready to give birth into your world be patient as you watch your seeds root deeper and grow.

The question for Guðmundur is simple.  He has worked his whole life to get to this point.  He is a great prospect, a fantastic earner, and looks to be ready to make a splash into the SHL.  However, the First Quarter suggests that he may be walking a knife’s edge at this point.  Does he have what it takes to take that final step into the SHL and allow his illumination to grow? Or does he waver and instead step into the darkness?

Pro: Mercury (Reversed)

As mentioned in a previous reading, Mercury is the planet of thought, focus, and communication. It represents one’s ability to study the battlefield and strategize. As the great messenger, it also represents effective communication.

When Mercury is in retrograde, communication is challenged. Specifically, this represents that Guðmundur speaks the totally metal Icelandic language, and that his name is a pain in the dick to spell out on a keyboard. While somewhat annoying while trying to pump out an 11th hour media article, these are both awesome things that will win him adoration and keep him grounded to who he is.

Con: Pluto

Pluto is small in mass, but large in influence and potency. It is traditionally a negative omen of death and transformation. Things can get ugly when Pluto appears, so it is best to keep an open eye for destructive, transformative forces that can be channeled to work in one’s favor.  Pluto also represents the subconscious, the dark and shadowy secrets of our personal underworlds.

This seems to indicate that things may be tumultuous for Guðmundur in the coming years. He will need to keep an eye out for powerful transformations in his life and work along with his teammates to make sure that whatever emerges from the ashes is to the benefit of him and his team. This does not mean that harm will become him, just that he needs to be aware of potential dangers and be ready to work around them.

Answer: Pisces

Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac. It represents the culmination of the other eleven.  Pisces are dreamy creatures who focus on their own inner journeys. Strong and empathic, Pisces are natural visionaries who ditch the status quo and instead will their dreams and intuitions into reality.

For Guðmundur, this is an omen that he needs to be introspective and understand his own desires and dreams, and trust that the universe will guide him as he forges his own path.  He will need to rely on his team and be aware of the teams’ needs of him, as empathic reciprocity is the key to maintain balance with the universe.  Should he stay true to himself and his dreams…should he stay tightly knit with his teams, there is no reason to fear that Guðmundur will fall off into the darkness. There is every reason to believe he will have huge success and be a star in the SHL.

Teylora Petrov

Question: New Moon

Each New Moon is a clean slate filled with fresh prospect, high hopes, and powerful energies of inspiration that are here to help you align with your dreams. It is a sign that changes coming - set your intentions and listen closely to the spark that calls you to new positive future direction. This card signifies that it is time for a new beginning. It is time to focus your energy and get ready to take a leap of faith.

This card raises the question of whether Tey is really ready and willing to make the plunge into the SHL.  Just reaching 450TPE, his period of growth in the SMJHL is over, and he instead will begin staring at that pool of TPE rising, wondering what to do with it.  That is his blank slate.  When it comes time to make the jump to the SHL, will he be able to intuit the proper training to undergo to be ready?  Will he listen to what the energies of the universe tell him?  Will he be prepared to step out into the unknown and achieve in the greatest hockey league in the world?

Pros: Jupiter

Jupiter expands our awareness. It guides the way in which we open our minds. It is the Guardian of our abstract minds, our human spirit, and philosophes. It is a benevolent planet that drives us to expand and flourish in positive ways. Jupiter Lords over our sense of optimism, luck, and the type of opportunities that come our way. It consistently asks us to take a step back from the situations we often entangle ourselves in, and instead to look up from the limited details of our everyday lives in order to foster a wider perspective.

This indicates that Teylora has a very open mind.  He is not caught up in the tactical, day to day drudgery, and is instead wide visioned and focused on seeing new opportunities on the horizon.  More content to be headed in the right direction rather than to be the king of right now, Teylora has the vision to effortlessly navigate a tumultuous and confusing SHL career.

Cons: Neptune

As mentioned in an earlier reading, Neptune represents our dreams, what is abstract, and our strength of spirit.

For Teylora, this may indicate that while he has his vision set on the horizon, he may have issues thinking outside of the concrete or in forcing his own desires on his trajectory.  He may be more keen to go with the flow, to take the safe bet rather than try to dream up something nonconventional that may work better in his favor.  Teylora may want to spend this time in the SMJHL reflecting on his own desires and dreams in order to make sure that he is heading toward them, rather than helping to drive someone else’s dream to fruition.

Answer: Taurus

Taurus is the bull. He symbolizes stubbornness and determination, the refusal to give up, and sense of will that will see one through until the end.  This energy is brazen, yet not careless. It is deliberate, predictable, stable, and low risk. It steadily pushes forward and lavishes in the fruits of its labor.

Teylora Petrov is simply a player who will not quit.  While not likely to be flashy or abstract, he seems prepared to become a stable, powerful player and earner for the New England Wolfpack. There is no concern that he will not be able to transform his blank slate into something amazing, Teylora appears to be blessed with the stubbornness and determination to push himself to a very successful SHL Career.
