Deep Dive #2 - St. Louis Scarecrows - Season so far and something about draft!

My second Deep Dive will scout Detroit Falcons main rival team Saint Louis Scarecrows. They had also very hard season so far. Only 15 win and 27 losses. It looks like Falcons and Scarecrows will fight together who will be Eastern Conference last team. Saint Louis Scarecrows made fewest goals at Eastern Conference, only 99 goals, tied with their rival Detroit Falcons. 42 of those made 4 different guys, Zbynek Dobrovsky (11), Young Logo (11) and Grapefruit Lizard (10) and Pavel Kharlamov (10). It makes over 42% (42,42%) of their all goals at regular season. It seems like Scarecrows have serious problem with their team depth. Rest of their players can't support their most effective players enough and it leads to serious problems as we can see.

Let's see how Scarecrows success Drafting. At S54 their first round pick at #7 was Colin Lambert and second round pick #15 was Cody Spinka. Defender Colin Lambert played all of their games at regular season so far. He summarized  6 goals and 14 assists, which means total 20 points. I think he was solid first round pick to Scarecrows. Lambert is also important part of Scarecrows defence core. He also developed very well with 660 TPE. It looks like their second round pick was completely wasted, since Cody Spinka isn't part of their team, since they decided release him due inactivity.

At S55 their first round pick at #2 was Xavier Doom and second round pick #22 Zbynek Dobrovsky. Xavier Doom was 2nd overall pick and he mades 6+11, 17 points. He also develop very well, with 423 TPE  he's 18. compared to S56 draftees TPE. This time also second round pick was successful, what comes to points, since Dobrovsky made 11+8 and only -1 at plus minus. He have 317 TPE and it's lower part of draftees class S56.

At S56 their first round pick at #12 was Borek Podlezi and third round pick #28 Victor Fedorov. Their newest first round pick seems to be completely wasted, again, since they decided release Borek Podlezi, who have only +6 TPE, since started playing. Suprisingly their third round pick was very successful since Victor Fedorov made 3+10, 13 points. He also developed very well with 246 TPE and he is 16. compared to S57 draftees TPE. He was definitely surprising gold pick to Scarecrows from round 3. It also looks like Scarecrows try to impress their new Draftable Free Agents, since they made 6 new contracts with them. We would definitely looks interested where they will go at S57 SMJHL draft!

I also have small interview with @Rangerjase, who is part of Detroit Management. I wanted to hear his opinion, as he have a lot of more view and experience how things work here in SMJHL.

So, @Rangerjase

Q: I make DD about STL and it looks like they had few completely wasted 1st round picks few seasons ago and recently, how common that's in SMJHL?

A: It is really a blind shot in the dark sometimes with First round picks in the SMJHL. When it comes to new creates you only really have a few weeks (or less) of activity to go off of and some basic conversations on discord with the candidate. You see a lot of re-creates get drafted higher in the first rounds because they have a longer history of site activity. There is always a chance of them going inactive, but most of those players are typically in it for the long haul and can max out their players pretty quickly in the SMJHL.

Q: If teams have few very poor draft years, what they can do to improve their team? Is signing a lot of DFA :s good tactic, as STL seems choose to do?

A: If teams have poor draft years its definitely a good idea to pick up some FA’s or DFA’s. Getting to know players a little earlier and solidifying your draft order is always a good option. In the SMJHL you are in a constant state of rebuild year over year. You only get to hold onto an active player for 4 seasons (if you’re lucky). Sometimes it pays off in a rebuild year to trade some high TPE players as rentals to grab some extra draft picks.

Falcons SKREEE MEDIA Falcons want send thanks to @Rangerjase for the small interview!
