First Article Bonus - S58 Draftee Jonny Tsunami LW Introduction
#1

Jonny Tsunami is a world class surfer from Honolulu, Hawaii, who is one of the top ranked surfers in the world. Jonny Tsunami has won multiple surfing events, not only in Hawaii, but also around the world. The most cherished event that Jonny Tsunami won was in Hawaii, where all the best local surfers rode the waves to win the Tsunami medal, a prize given to the best surfer in the state of Hawaii. Jonny Tsunami had to move to the mainland after his father accepted a new job out there. Jonny looked to replace surfing with snowboarding and although it was fun, it did not provide him the same rush. At first, he was also not fond of the snow and the cold, but he eventually came to accept and love the weather change compared to Hawaii.

Jonny Tsunami never had a career or even an interest in Hockey. He is currently a star for the Dallas Dynamo in the Pro Baseball Experience (PBE) Minor leagues. Jonny was drafted by the Major League Team Indianapolis Apex in the 2nd round. Jonny Tsunami is currently having a career year for the Dynamos, leading his team in runs, home runs and stolen bases. Jonny Tsunami hit a rut during the season, and was looking at other sports to get his mind off his bad slump. Jonny Tsunami would normally go to his indoor surf spot in Dallas on off days, and there he met a very famous NHL player, Corey Perry (he's a saint). Corey Perry was going to get a surf session in on his own like he did when he was back in Anaheim and noticed Tsunami and they traded surfing tips that day. Perry said if he ever wanted to get his mind off of baseball, he could come by the rink to learn, and maybe that would get his baseball game back to normal. Jonny Tsunami took that shot and met Perry a few days later after going 0/5 in a recent loss.

Jonny Tsunami, was TERRIBLE on skates. Unfortunately coming off a Stanley Cup loss, Corey Perry wanted to spent the whole day on the ice to get his mind off the defeat and ended up spending the whole day with Tsunami, as he knew that he was coming off his worst game of his baseball career. He first taught Tsunami how to skate. Jonny Tsunami picked up things fairly quickly, and although the speed was not there like he is on the baseball field, he showed above average strength, and agility, although having no balance whatsoever. Corey Perry, as we know, is known for his offense so he went through shooting a puck with Tsunami and various drills with him. Without Perry telling him what to do, Jonny Tsunami showed a knack for getting to the right spots to get his shot off, showed incredible accuracy picking out the corners with ease, and most impressively was able to one time shots only after 15 minutes of teaching/practicing. Corey Perry was so shocked and impressed, and mentioned that Jonny Tsunami should try out hockey.

There was an off day in the PBE, and Jonny Tsunami saw an ad for SMJHL tryouts, and called Corey Perry to see if this was legit or not. He indeed said the league was real, and mentioned that he could get a shot in the American Hockey League if he wanted, but he would have to quit PBE. Jonny Tsunami did not want to quit baseball, so he asked his coach to see if he can make the two sport thing work in the SMJHL. He got the blessing from his coach and was able to try out for the SMJHL draft that was coming up. There were 32 players at the tryout, which was actually a draft combine of sorts, and Jonny looked to prove himself. He was outclassed by nearly the whole field, due to the other players having played their whole lives. However the scouts did show some love for Jonny Tsunami. Scouts noted his strengths of getting open and shooting accuracy, and even offensive read, something Corey Perry suspected but was unable to tell from a one on one session, and all the weaknesses were defensive related, since Jonny Tsunami is TERRIBLE on defense in the PBE, it only made sense that it would transfer to hockey. Scouts expect Jonny Tsunami to be a power play savant, and he could be a great player as time goes on. Jonny Tsunami was shocked by this. He thought he would be the worst player in the try out since this was his first time ever playing organized hockey, let alone be on the ice with more than one person.

Jonny Tsunami now looks to split his PBE off days between surfing and hockey in the hopes of getting drafted by a SMJHL team. Jonny has no idea of any of the teams in the league, but hopes to get drafted by one of these teams and eventually get to learn more about the game of hockey and the league itself. Jonny looks to become an elite offensive player, who mixes it up and agitates the other team, similar to his friend/mentor Corey Perry. Jonny mentioned surfing helping with him being able to get open as overcrowded surf spots, you have to make your way and find an opening sometimes to get the wave you want, and that also surprisingly helped him with his offensive reads when he played 5v5 in the tryouts. Jonny still has a lot to learn on the defensive end (basically everything there is to learn about defense), and most importantly needs to learn how to stay on his skates, as his balance might be the worst scouts have ever seen (makes sense when he's never played team hockey before and has barely ever been on skates in his life). Without any sort of hockey knowledge, it's amazing Jonny Tsunami has even made these types of strides in the short time of playing. Jonny hopes to get drafted and further develop his hockey talents, while retaining his baseball talents. One day, he hopes to have his self-proclaimed "Jonny TwoSports" nickname chanted all over the internet. The potential is there to be great in baseball and hockey, it's now up to Jonny to realize it.
