When St. Louis won the draft lottery, fans were ecstatic, as they had their eyes on prospect Jean-Locke Zidane. Despite the help of their new rookie, the Scarecrow’s performance is lackluster, being 11th in the league. The defenseman is however performing well in St. Louis, with 4 goals and 19 assists in 55 games. He currently plays 22 minutes per night for his team. He’s the 2nd defenseman in point for his team, behind Lambert. Surprisingly, he’s actually the player that play the most on his team. He spends most of his time on the power play, and a bit on the penalty kill units. Overall, he’s a workhorse for his team.

Detroit surprised everyone in the draft. They had the 2nd overall pick, but also managed to acquire Quebec City and Colorado picks. This allowed them to get three highly touted prospect in Luc Blouin, Pavel Jeziak and Kermit Murphy. Despite the fact that they sold a few older players, Detroit management managed to work wonder with their players, as they currently stand third in the east with a record of 26-23-6 (which actually equal to 7th in the league). Their three prospects are actually close in points, with Jeziak having 12 goals for 25 points, and Blouin and Murphy with 24 points each, mostly assists. Defenseman Blouin, unlike the others, really thrive in the power play, where 10 of his points come from. He’s getting an average of close to three minutes a night on the power play.

Forward Jeziak and Murphy get about 1 minutes each on the power play. In the regular night, the forwards play 14 minutes or so while the defenseman play 23 minutes. Funnily, defenseman Blouin is the person who shots the most between the three rookies, with 100 shots, 2 more than Jeziak. Murphy, on his side, is having the time of his life being the physical forward. He has 188 hits, the most on the Detroit Falcons, and 50 shots blocked. It’s however being reflected by the time he’s spending on the penalty box, with 68 minutes since the beginning of the season. It’s the proof that picking those three players from Detroit actually paid off greatly for them and we can easily see them becoming pillars in the future for the Detroit Falcons. It’s going to be interesting to see what those players will be able to do next season, where I’m expecting them to be even more productive.

To round out the top five, the Kelowna Knights picked #A-Rye Izzy, son of famous Mike Izzy of the Calgary Dragons. The Knights are currently playing well this season, currently fifth in the standing. However, their rookie defenseman is having a bit more trouble. Despite playing 19 minutes a night and on the penalty kill, Izzy has 15 points in the season. This is good for 4th to last in the team. I would say, however, that he’s super impressive on the penalty kill, where he has a goal and two assists. Most of it is actually bad luck, to an extent, since he has a shooting percentage of 5.81%.

Approved, +5 TPE @Vandy
