Twitter Requested Media, Part 3

(This post was last modified: 01-16-2021, 03:40 PM by dogwoodmaple.)

A couple weeks ago, I posted this tweet  and it received an overwhelming response.  Because of that, I've decided to split this article into multiple parts as we start the Twitter Requested Media series.

What could be more fun than talking about some of the league's most notable players?  Nothing!

And two notes:

  • I wrote this over multiple days, so some players stats might be a little out of date.
  • This piece is noticeably shorter than the last two - I didn't want to go too long between the articles so we'll do more of a rapid fire in the coming days!

LW Vlastislav Malik – Kelowna Knights @leafs1997
We’ll get part three started here with Kelowna’s Vlastislav Malik!  Malik had a fantastic regular season for the Knights, finishing with 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists.  Malik’s goal mark was tied for second most on the team, helping pace one of the league’s most potent offenses.  The Czech star also was dominant on the power play for Kelowna, totaling seven PP points and six assists, which was good for third most on the team.  But VM wasn’t just a star on the offensive end.  Malik finished the year with 87 hits, putting his 6’5” 227 lbs frame to good use.  Regularly disrupting opponents’ attacks, Malik flew back on defense and was one of the most consistent players Kelowna had on both ends of the ice.  Whether on offense or defense, opposing teams have to constantly account for Malik’s whereabouts on the ice thanks to their quickness, incredible instincts, and precision skating. If opponents are not careful, Malik can take over the game in an instant for the Knights and can be an unstoppable force in the SHL.

LW Nikolaj Boyle – Vancouver Whalers @zaynzk
Next, we’ll highlight one of our standouts from the S58 class – Nikolaj Boyle of the Vancouver Whalers.  In their rookie season in the J-league, Boyle put up an impressive 21 points on the year.  With nine goals scored and 12 assists, it’s clear that this Latvian forward can do it all on the offensive side.  Boyle is also quick to help out on D, thanks to a strapping 6’4” 239 lbs build that gives them more than enough power to be a force on that end of the ice.  Boyle has registered 34 hits and 41 blocked shots, which is even more impressive when account for their time on ice (14:54 per game).  Boyle flies around, always taking advantage of the opportunities for a timely hit or to sacrifice their body to prevent a shot on goal.  When it comes to building a franchise for the future, Boyle checks all the boxes when you’re looking for a big, fast forward who can do anything and everything on the ice.  Look out for this Whalers’ future – between the incoming trophies and numerous accolades, Boyle will be a household name at the next level.

LD Bjørn Jakobsen – Quebec City Citadelles @siddhus
For our next highlighted player, we’ve got one of the most physically imposing players in the entire league.  Bjørn Jakobsen of the Quebec City Citadelles stands 6’11” and weighs in at 300 lbs, making them an absolute terror the minute they set foot on the ice. Their incredible size isn’t the only thing notable about them, however.  Jakobsen finished the regular season with an incredible 34 points and an eye-popping +22 plus/minus.  On the year, Jakobsen had 14 goals and 20 assists, which just proves their worth as a dominant player in the offensive half.  On defense, it’s more of the same.  Jakobsen has registered 70 hits and based on their size, makes me feel terribly sorry for the recipient of each of those 70.  I can’t imagine the terror seeing a 6’11” 300 pounder headed to clean your clock, and just that factor alone has led to an impact on the opponents’ offense.  In addition, Jakobsen has blocked 56 shots for the Citadelles and has made it their job to be a shutdown defender as well as one of the engines of the QCC offense.  If you want an up close look at an elite two-way talent, head to Quebec City and feast your eyes on this star.

LW Jonny Tsunami – Maine Timber @Jonny Tsunami
Back to Maine!  We head back to the best SMJHL franchise and Jonny Tsunami of the Timber.  It didn’t take long for Tsunami to make a major impact in the league and they continued that play through the entire regular season.  Despite being a rookie, Tsunami finished with an incredible 32 points, which ranks fifth on the Timber.  Their 19 goals puts them in the top 25 among all players, which has a set the stage for a potential Rookie of the Year award for our very own LW.  The most impressive stat from Tsunami this year has to be their shooting percentage, though.  Of players with at least 50 shots, this rook ranks 3rd in the entire league (16.67%).  Whether it’s short, well-placed shots, rockets from the outside, or anything in-between, Tsunami can get it done.  And despite only one season in the league, it’s clear that Jonny Tsunami is one of the premier scorers in all of hockey.  No matter what the defense throws at this young sensation, Tsunami is always up to the task and has proved to be a goalie's worst nightmare. We could be looking at a future MVP and all-time great with the one, the only, Jonny Tsunami!

LW Rotticus Scott – Hamilton Steelhawks @RotticusScott
For this next player, we head up to the SHL with Rotticus Scott of the Hamilton Steelhawks!  Scott has been dynamite for the Steelhawks and has been a major reason why they finished the regular season with the most points and goals scored in the league.  On the year, Scott had an incredible 59 points and was paced by 25 goals.  That number ranked fourth on the squad and were due in large part to Scott’s 13.74% shooting percentage which was second best among all Steelhawks.  But Rotticus isn’t just an offensive juggernaut.  With 101 hits this year, showed off their prowess as a force on defense and has distinguished themselves as one of the top two-way players in the league.  One of Scott’s best stats is the miniscule amount of time they spend in the penalty box. Despite playing more than 18 minutes per game, Scott had just 12 PIM on the entire year.  Discipline, focus, and hard work has helped establish this elite Steelhawk as a star in the league and someone with an incredibly bright future.  This 6’0” 200 lbs Canadian is an elite talent and has a skillset that any young forward should emulate.  What a player!

RD Jimmy Jimmy – Carolina Kraken @Gumbaman
Next up we head to Carolina for their RD Jimmy Jimmy.  Jimmy has been an assist machine for the Kraken this year, racking up an impressive 24 dimes on the season.  The elite defensive player also tacked on four goals, proving they’re not just a one-trick pony when it comes to helping out on the offensive end of the ice.  And on defense, it’s more elite stats for this 6’4” defensive player from Alberta.  Jimmy has a team-high 141 hits this year and has rattled the bones of virtually every forward in the league.  Overall, Jimmy is one of just five players with 24+ assists and 125+ hits, proving their worth as an elite talent.  But let’s not forget all those shots Jimmy managed to block this year – 108 of them in total.  When you factor in Jimmy’s other-worldly passing, incredible instincts, and overall fantastic play on defense, it’s hard to find a better player patrolling the back half of the ice.  Jimmy can do it all and will be a household name sooner rather than later.  Carolina always has a chance to get back into a game when this playmaker is on the ice.

G Frans Eller – New England Wolfpack @Ace
Goalie time!  Here we’ve got our first goalie of the series with Frans Eller of the New England Wolfpack.  On the season, Eller has posted an impressive .913 save percentage and is in the top 10 in that category among goalies with at least 40 starts.  Not only that, but the 6’9” 260 lbs Dane is one of just eight goalies in the league with at least five shutouts.  Whether it’s stopping long distance rockets or turning away the quick shots and deflections, Eller has all the skills you look for in an elite goalie.  Eller also ranks fifth in the league in total saves, which just further proves that this New England net man isn’t just a high ceiling player, but a goalie that’s exceptional game in and game out for the Wolfpack.  Eller’s a master with the glove, a savant with the stick, and has some of the best reflexes around.  If you’re lacing ‘em up against this stout goalie, you better bring you’re A-game.  No freebies when Frans Eller is between the posts.  You've got to earn every goal and hope that you simply get lucky and sneak one to the back of the net.

RW Rhys Pritchard – Toronto North Stars @notoriousTRON
From New England, we take the short trip to Toronto and Rhys Pritchard from Great Britain.  This North Stars winger had a phenomenal regular season and continues to cement themselves as one of the league’s best players. On the year, Pritchard finished with 47 points, which ranked fourth on the team. With 19 goals and 28 assists, it’s clear that the offense runs through Pritchard every single game in Toronto.  It isn’t just the points that sets Pritchard apart, though. Despite playing nearly 22 minutes per game, Pritch only spent 12 minutes in the penalty box, which is downright amazing.  The 6’2” 215 lbs winger can always be counted on to fill just about any roll for the North Stars, including being a massive help on defense. On that side of the ice, Pritchard has flashed their skills with 117 hits (2nd on the team) and is just one of 20 other players with that many hits and at least 47 points.  Offense, defense, cleaning up the glass, you name it and Pritchard can take care of it.  One of the best two-wayers in the game!

LD Nat Emerson – Baltimore Platoon @Thelastheraclid
Next, we highlight one of the best defenders in the league with Nat Emerson of the Baltimore Platoon!  But where to even start with Emerson’s outrageous stats from this season?  Emerson is one of just six players with 200+ blocked shots and 100+ hits, putting them among the elite of the elite in all of hockey.  On the season, Emerson finished with 233 blocked shots (5th most) and 113 hits and led the Platoon’s defense night in and night out.  Emerson also more than pulled their weight on the offensive end as well.  They’re the only player with 40+ points and 192+ blocked shots and can stake the claim as one of the best all around players in the SHL.  Another thing that sets Emerson apart is their incredible stamina and incredible workout regimen.  On the season, only one player spent more time on the ice than the 6’4” 250 lbs American, just further proving that they’re an elite player every single night on the ice.  When you factor in the stats, the talent, and the day-to-day high level play, you’d be hard pressed to find a better all-around defensive player than Emerson.

G Name Redacted – Manhattan Rage @Skeleton Party
We finish up this short piece with another goalie!  This time, it’s Name Redacted from Manhattan, and what a goalie they are!  No player with more than 20 games played has a goals allowed average as low as Redacted, who averaged a miniscule 2.08 this year.  Not only that, but nearly one-third of all their games in the net resulted in a shutout!  They’re second among all goalies in that category and are clearly one of the top goalies around. With a 20-4 record, they also simply just know how to win.  From quick reflexes and precision passing, to SportsCenter-level glove saves and flexibility, Redacted is a name to watch for years to come as one of the most promising players to line up between the posts.  The best attribute that sets Redacted apart from others has to be their positioning.  They’re never caught out of place and always make the opponent earn it when they attack the net. We might not have had any goalies in the first two parts of this series, but man are we highlighting two of the best here with Eller and Redacted.  Good luck scoring!
