Team DACH S57 WJC Roster Announcement

(This post was last modified: 01-20-2021, 03:42 PM by Rancidbudgie.)

Hello everyone! It is the pleasure and privilege of CountChocula and I to represent DACH as the GMs for the S57 World Junior Championships! Without further ado, here is the DACH roster for this season’s WJC!

Forwards:

Theo Kondos ( @Ohtaay ):  Austria
This is Kondos’ final WJC tournament before moving up to the Texas Renegades, and he’s hoping to make it count. One of the most driven players on DACH these last few seasons, Kondos will continue where he left off last tournament on the top line, where he led all DACH forwards in scoring, as well as finishing in the top 10 of tournament scoring during the round robin.

Dee Centreman IV ( @grok ):  Germany
The powerful pivot debuted for DACH last tournament after transferring to Germany, anchoring any place in the line up I shifted them to, be it 3rd line or1st. A defensive-minded center, Centreman IV was a possession force on the ice last tournament, and will also look to build on last season’s strong performance.

Rikki Petrov ( @AndrewWarren13 ):  Austria
One of the infamous Petrov siblings, Rikki recently transferred to Austria, and now makes his debut for DACH as a high-octane two-way center. Rikki will be shouldering more responsibility this tournament than he did on UCORCAL last season, and adds to DACH’s already scary center depth

Anton Mihailov ( @Mr.Finland):  Switzerland
Speaking of center depth, Mihailov is back for their second WJC tournament after making their debut last season, jumping to 2nd-line center as an SMJHL rookie where he amassed 5 points in the round robin.

Luukas Lilja ( @retuperkele ):  Switzerland
Another sophomore DACH center, lilja transferred to Switzerland like Mihailov, and also found strong minutes as a rookie, splitting time between 2nd-line winger and 3rd or 1st line center. Lilja is looking to repeat another sound two-way performance and add an offensive touch to a defensively responsible team.

Thomas Rose ( @bigbluex02 ):  Switzerland
The prime sniper and power play scorer on DACH last WJC, Rose emerged for his third tournament for DACH. Rose’s stock has only gone up since he was named to his first DACH squad as a S56 rookie, and now he already has led the Powerplay and goal-scoring categories for DACH in his emerging career. While already a huge contributor, Rose is still young yet, and DACH may be fortunate enough to have him for one more tournament after this one.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser ( @Asked Madden ):  Austria
One of four S58 rookies from last year’s WJC squad, Hundertwasser leads the S58 branch of the continuing DACH youth movement, and the future looks strong for both Austria and DACH, even for seasons after this one. Expect Hundertwasser to have a larger role in generating offense this tournament for the team.

Jonas Caspari ( @jakey.peach ):  Switzerland
The wrecking ball on skates returns to their usual spot for DACH, shutting down opposing scorers and grinding their way to success. Caspari locked in to the shutdown line last tournament, and returns again to the same role this time around. After having a season where they were traded by both their SMJHL and SHL team within a matter of days, Caspari is being relied on still to be a stabilizing presence for DACH.

Leon Schweingruber ( @DApolloS ):  Switzerland
Another of the S58 class, Schweingruber made the cut last season and made their debut as an undrafted SMJHL rookie last season, and played a remarkably mature defensive game as the 4th-line pivot. Looking to carve out more ice time from an already deep DACH squad, looks for Schweingruber to appear more frequently on the ice, and see more special teams time.

Kermit Murphy ( @notorioustig ):  Germany
A recent transfer to Germany, the young and powerful pivot has royal blood in their veins, being related through means that are ambiguous and foreign to me to the great Tig Murphy. The young forward will make their WJC debut for DACH this tournament, although likely on the wing due to the great center depth the team has this year.

Paul Binder ( @CaptainCamel ):  Austria
A S58 draftee making their first WJC appearance, Binder rounds out a deep forward group with a much-needed scorer’s touch. While likely receiving limited minutes due to the strong core of forwards from earlier draft classes, Binder is the beginning of a youth movement that ensures a strong DACH team for seasons to come.

Yan Dolff ( @lordbolo ):  Switzerland
Another key piece in the S58 DACH storm, Dolff edges out other active competitors for the role for having a swift and skillful scoring touch. The young Swiss winger will make his WJC debut this tournament with something to prove, and only more room to grow.

Defense:

Jonas Kahnwald ( @Festinator ):  Germany
Leading the blue-line corps for DACH in Jonas Kahnwald, who in their first tournament for DACH two seasons ago resulted in a Rookie of the Tournament Award. Kahnwald led all DACH players in scoring last tournament, as well as being tied for 6th in tournament scoring overall. Skilled at driving the play, Kahnwald is still only a S56, and even will all the accolades and results, may very well be back again next tournament as well.

Michael Withecheck ( @sakrosankt ):  Austria
Another top defenseman that still has some youth, Withecheck has embodied the role of shutdown defenseman for two seasons previous to this tournament for DACH, and while he will still be a defensive force, it cannot be understated that Withecheck has a deep well-rounded game that can be suitable for a variety of tactics. The big Austrian will see top-pairing time with Kahnwald, with whom chemistry has already been developing for two tournaments in the making

Bud Weiser ( @budweiser ):  Germany
The heavy-hitting defenseman once again graces DACH with his size and penchant for bone-crushing hits. Weiser is a physical but incredibly defensively responsible as well, with 18 blocked shots in last tournament’s round robin, as well as leading the SMJHL in blocked shots two seasons ago.

Arsene Leclerc ( @spooked ):  Switzerland
A blue-line star on the rise for Switzerland, Leclerc transferred to the neutral nation before last tournament, and made their debut for the team, immediately establishing themselves on the Powerplay, a role they will likely see themselves in an increased capacity this season.

Jimmy Nutcluster ( @eagle_brand ):  Germany
After rusting plenty of Jimmies for DACH last tournament and the Falcons last SMJHL season, Nutcluster steps into a larger role of responsibility while keeping his trademark rough-and-tumble game to the team. Opponents had a hard time dealing with DACH’s physicality last season, and Nutcluster is here to make sure it doesn’t get any easier.

Zayne Rotzbua ( @inverted ):  Austria
Appearing last season for their DACH debut as an undrafted S58 rookie, Rotzuba will likely reprise his role as defense-turned winger, and the blueline is once again stuffed and his heavy-hitting game lends itself well to the shutdown wing. As an undrafted rookie, he still came 2nd in the entire tournament for hits, and look for that style of play to be encouraged once again.

#A-Rye Izzy ( @Mike Izzy ):  Austria
The young superstar for Kelowna, #A-Rye follows in his father’s footsteps representing Austria internationally. Appearing in his first WJC, Izzy will likely be stuck behind the established blue-line depth, but not for long. Look for the new Izzy to be a cornerstone of the DACH defense for seasons after this tournament.

Finn von Murphenstein ( @r0tzbua ):  Austria
While just missing out on the final cut last season as an undrafted S58 rookie, von Murphenstein has proven he belongs on the national roster, and will make his debut for DACH and the WJC this tournament. Looking to build on a strong rookie season with the Kraken, expect to see Murphenstein on the 3rd pairing this tournament.

Narboza Manyhands ( @nyumbayangu ):  Switzerland
Although from out of town, Manyhands is declared nationally for Switzerland for eligibility purposes, and will complete the bottom pairing for DACH this tournament. We are excited for the young player to experience their first WJC tournament with us, and hope this one and the many more to come are an enriching human cultural experience!

Goalies:

Nicolae Antonescu ( @Rancidbudgie ):  Switzerland
Making his final appearance in net for DACH, Antonescu gets his one and only shot to take the main reins, after being behind now-Calgary Dragon and young superstar Cale Amundsen for the last few seasons. After this tournament, Antonescu looks to step up to a backup role on the senior Switzerland squad, and make his SHL debut next season for the San Francisco Pride.

Jon St. Ark ( @Arkz ):  Austria
After backstopping Sweden on loan last tournament, St. Ark returns home to represent DACH for the first time this tournament. The heir apparent in net, St. Ark is set up to take the lead for the next couple of seasons after Antonescu departs. Having already proven themself to be a WJC calibre starter, splitting time gives DACH once again a capped tandem the subject of envy from many a team.

Congratulations to everyone that made the squad!
