S58 PT #1 Empty Arenas

Before every game we blast katy perry and get super psyched while also shooting pellet guns at pictures of Tom fiddler boy do we hate our captain. After were done doing that we all do a big ole sniff of salts and throw the rausinbag around so we can white stuff on our face. But seriously we take tons of pre work out while doing our stretching makes for some Intense yoga as we hit the mat and get stomping around. Not many can do it like the cuda and bang nd beat drums the way do. Recently cuddles has been bringing in a professional speaker to roast us and get us mad. We also go on twitter and read what the haters say and that truly gets us ready to fuck shit up. All in all inlets a weird year with 0 fans but well get through this and once again be a team others shall fear. Bye now

The Baltimore Platoon have come up with a number of ways to get the players pumped both before the game and during it. We have gone in and set up speakers which play a recording of what the fans used to sound like in the arena. The speakers are just loud enough that the players can hear them in the locker room and feel as though its the real thing. We also have been blasting the music in our locker room louder then before. But the biggest thing thats been helping us has been our "Hype Man" as the players call him. We brought on a Psychologist whos a specialist in athletes mental state. His entire job is to get the players motivated and hyped up for the game. He give the pre game speech and speaks in period breaks, chooses the locker room and pre game music, and works with each player so that they can be as hyped and focused as possible before each game.

It has been tough without the fans, a lot of us feed off that energy and use it to give us the extra push. We've had to be our own fans here in Kelowna, cheering each other on and rapping our sticks against the boards from the bench. That said, one nice thing is that you really can shout encouragement form the bench. Without the fans we can hear each other and are able to offer words of encouragement or advice and it has enabled us to be a part of the on ice action even while we're waiting for our line to be called. What had really been tough is our inability to all get together and hang out like we used to. Chilling on a fellow Knights couch and duking it out in Smash Bros or taking to the track in Mario Kart has been sorely missed. Fortunately the vaccines are rolling out and we hope that soon we will be able to party once again, and the fans will be able to return to their seats and give us their energy.

The Scarecrows, missing their usually sold out arena, struggled to get motivated for games at the start of last season. Leading them to be bottom of the pack at the mid season point. It wasn't until Scottish free agent, Daryl Urquhart, signed before the the Scarecrows started to improve on ice. This was in no small part due to the Scotsmans insistence on bringing in his local teams pre game ritual.
Each member of the team stands "taps aff" whilst another member of the team gives them a big fucker of a red hand print on their belly. The soundtrack for the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns play in the background. Everyone getting fired up screaming hooting and hollering, ready to take the ice.
If anyone is still showing any nerves pre game they get that sweet sticky nector made by monks. Otherwise known as buckfast, tonic wine chockablock filled with caffeine. If that doesn't get them going they're a lost cause.

Let's face it, it's hard to get yourself worked up for the game without fans. However, that's the job, right? We're paid millions of dollars to be ready to go and to give it our all. I appreciate the team pumping in some crowd noise, and some of them playing to the empty arena on the big screen. It just isn't the same, you know.

Here's the thing that isn't talked about though that is very important. Without all the fans in the arena, it's colder than ever there. Sure, the ice is great for the most part. It also means when you're sitting on the bench waiting for your shift, you are literally getting cold the whole time. Think of the back-up goalie, literally sitting there, muscles getting cold and ready to snap at any point. Think about the players on the lower lines, they come out and they're a bit slower, a bit smaller, because they're just cold.

So what we've worked on is getting heaters on the bench, just to help keep us warm, and we've contacted the league about allowing players to utilize the tunnels to stretch between shifts. It's a toss up. We try to do stretching and warm ups during intermissions in the locker room to keep ourselves active and keep our muscles working, and we play some music and everything, but the main focus is on making sure everyone is moving and safe.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

GOING DOWN IN STYLE. TOAST4LYFE

Me and the teammates still get absolutely wild before games to replace the lack of crowd. Some of even have a ritual now that we can do before any game, making away games just as exciting. A group of us always get a big bucket of KFC and just go wild in the locker room. I'm talking dozens of wings, mashed potatoes, biscuits, you name it. Nothing gets you more motivated than a bunch of chicken and the energy you get from eating KFC is unbeatable. Additionally, we of course have our banger playlist to amp us up beyond belief. We have all the classics: Darude - Sandstorm, Toto - Africa, Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license, you name it we have it! Sometimes if I'm feeling particularly pumped up I will do a little dance routine, as I am an experienced breakdancer. Nothing gets the lads as motivated as seeing me do the coffee grinder in the locker room.

It has been weird without fans for obvious reason but I think the boys have been doing a good job. Crowd noise will be piped in and captured on the TV broadcast. But unlike the constant roar that greeted the team during the team's prior seasons, the team is going for authentic acoustics. The team also hopes to work in familiar cheers such as "Let's Go North Stars," and other chants. The team is collaborating with the players to determine what music blasts during the lead-up to puck drop, in between whistles, and when players return from intermission. The pre-puck drop "Let's Play Hockey" chant and flag-bearer will be done virtually, and the team is working to showcase how fans are watching the North Stars from home. Front-line workers also will be honored on Friday.

"The open of the game hopefully will feel pretty similar," Last-Name said.

thank you amid and swoosh for sigs!

Edmonton's a pretty tight-knit team and we mostly have the same roster as last season, so even without the fans in the building it still hasn't been too difficult to get pumped up for games. The arena staff will still keep up the same routine with the pre-game music, Jumbotron videos, and other things, but really the biggest change has to be with the team mentality. Especially with the cap fine, a lot of people are counting out the Blizzard, so using that as motivation is really getting us in a groove. As for maintaining fan interactions with the team, the PR people did get fans to send in videos of themselves performing prepared chants, so even with no fans in the building, they are still able to interact with their team. As well, fans can pay for cardboard cutouts of themselves or a loved one to sit in the lower bowl, and if a deflected puck hits one of the cutouts, they win a prize. It's all in good fun to keep fans engaged.

The manhattan Rage do not care about its fans, this is well known. The fans are pretty useless to austin roenick because the fans do not even like austin roenick as much they should which is a big disappointment for him. But austin roenick does not like the quietness of the game and he does like some loud noises which pumps him up. So how does austin roenick and his team now prepare while there are no fans in the building? We just pretend that there are fans there and pretend to hear noises. Fans bring energy and now they are not there so how do we get the energy? Just fight. Fighting brings energy into the team which is needed. And other way to get energy is to drink lots and lots of gatorade. Gatorade has lots of calories and we need those calories to get us very energetic so that is how we get the energy now.

Our very own hype man / dancing bear Valentin Kalashnikov brings all the intensity and hype needed for a group of well rounded, perfectly adjusted individuals such as the Platoon. Kalashnikov has a pre game routine of eating Borsht, pounding back several water bottles full of what smells to be just straight vodka, and dancing a very strange version of a Polka like dance that is apparently straight from the "Old Country".

Goals are followed by a post game serenade, and if you are lucky (or the recipient of a Hat Trick) you might even get the special accordion dance.

He is really a character that the entire team is able to rally around. He is able to keep the mood lite with jokes and stories through the tough seasons, and he is one of the toughest son of a bitches in the entire league, so you know that even though we may be get beaten down on the score sheet, we won't be getting beat down on the ice, or in the back alley after the game.

Even though the bleacher seats have been without fans for the past couple of seasons, the atmosphere in the Air Canada Centre has not diminished one bit.  This is greatly in part to our amazing mascot, Twinkle-Twinkle.  He runs around the arena during the games with large props, like a massive airhorn that he blasts whenever the refs call a penalty against the North Stars, or the many streamers he runs up and down the stairs with.  You can really feel the difference on the bench, because in the first couple of games that had no crowd, we were all incredibly nervous getting onto the ice for our shifts and made some easily avoidable mistakes.  It was a different feeling the first time Twinkle-Twinkle was putting on his show in the lonely crowd.  The whole team noticed him during the warmups of that game when he came out into the crowd operating the toy blimp that usually goes out during the intermissions with random promotions, but this time it had a hotdog in its claw.  Twinkle-Twinkle then drove the blimp straight up to the rafters and stood underneath it, which is roughly 100 meters, and had it release the hotdog.  It fell and surprisingly hit him square on the face of the costume but did not nab it in his mouth.  The whole team had a good laugh at it and definitely calmed our nerves.

I recently got promoted from juniors to the big SHL team - Calgary Dragons. Unfortunately, that was not how I imagined it. The first game was quiet. No people cheering, talking to refs, or yelling on bad playing players. There were few scary plastic people in the front seats but that does not give a much positive feeling. So before the next home games, we are thinking to improve it somehow. The idea is to get noise so we asked to our fans record in their very own microphones how they are cheering or yelling for the team. And then mixed put on the stereo. I mean video games somehow make it feel more realistic than now. In Eastern Europe, people sing in the games. I hope their gonna give some live records too. Another way around would be putting some random live stream for few fans at least for a while. Winter is too snowy to play outside so this is best what we can offer right now.
