Already six games deep into the season, but still can feel preseason vibes in Anaheim Outlaws gameplay since there are many S59 draft class rookies in the locker room, so let’s have a look back to preseason Outlaws and let’s analyze it a bit.

First game: ANA vs VAN 0:4
First game for Outlaws was tough. Outlaws were active in offence for the first two periods despite 0:3 result in Whalers favour. In the middle of the second period Outlaws had the same number of shots on goal attempts. Despite the big number of rookies, there were only three penalties, but two goals for Whalers came from power play so in this game Outlaws had a lack of efficiency in scoring and penalty killing (33%).

Second game: NBB vs ANA 3:1
Second game started with a penalty for Outlaws so Nevada took over the game a bit and scored first. In the second period Outlaws took a pace and were more active in offence then Nevada. It resulted in a goal. So the first Outlaws goal was scored in preseason. Unfortunately, it was the only goal in this game. Nevada scored second one in the start of the third period. Outlaws tried to come back, but an empty net goal for Nevada sealed the deal.

Third game: ANA vs NL 1:4
Preseason day two, third game for Outlaws. First period was a really polite game for both teams - zero penalties. However Berserkers still managed to open the score at the end of the second period. In the beginning of the second period Berserkers put the second puck in Outlaws net. After the third lost goal Outlaws came back quickly and scored second time in this preseason. Berserkers sealed the deal with a fourth puck behind Vincent Mietitore. Lack of Outlaws efficiency, good defencive play by Berserkers defenders and goalie gave Outlaws their third lost game in this preseason, but this time Outlaws penalty killing was at its best (100%).

Fourth game: QCC vs ANA 6:3
This time Outlaws faced Citadelles. Citadelles took control since the start of the game, was more active offensively and scored first. Outlaws tried to come back, tying the game at the beginning of the second period, but penalties were crucial this time. Citadelles scored on both powerplay chances in the second period. Outlaws tried to come back and as a result 5:3 coach decided to change the goalie for the sixth player. Game ended with Citadelles scoring an empty net goal.

Fifth game: ANA vs QCC 2:3
Game five. This time Outlaws were more collected, better in defence and tried to dictate rules on the ice. Good first period by Outlaws, were active, scored first. At the last three minutes of the first period Citadelles took over by scoring two times and took a pace, was shooting more, creating moments at Outlaws goal and scored third time for an evening. Third period, Outlaws scored the second time, but that’s not enough to come back and win.

Sixth game: STL vs ANA 2:4
Scarecrows visiting Anaheim. Outlaws’ chance to win the first game in this preseason. Scarecrows made things clear from the beginning - they came to win. First two periods they were dominant, more active in the Outlaws defensive zone and scored two times. After break Outlaws came out of the locker room more collected and ready to win. Coach did some educational work apparently. So one by one Outlaws scored two times and tied. In one episode things got a little bit heated between Sekai Wollker and Friedenreich Hundertwasser and they got into a fight so we had ourselves four versus four matchup. During the first minute of this matchup AJ Tirrell felt that he was missing out on a good fight so he nailed one of Scarecrows’ winger into board and got called for charging so Outlaws was 3 vs 4 now for the next two minutes. Good penalty kill and we are back to 4 vs 4. With plenty of room on ice now James Hagan was able to bring Outlaws ahead. Outlaws sealed the deal with an empty net goal by Andrews and got their first win in this preseason.

Seventh game: ANA vs DET 1:5
Outlaws started the game confident after the first win, was active offensively, but lacking in defence and two penalties in row let Detroit go ahead by three very fast. Outlaws managed to get one puck back, so the first period ended 1:3. Second period was even for both teams because the Outlaws had a chance to play in powerplay two times. At the beginning Detroit scored again in powerplay. After that puck was pulled out of IStawp Puques goal fifth time so Outlaws had no chance to come back in this one. Penalty killing this time was crucial.

Conclusion.
Anaheim Outlaws is a young team, full of many good rookies, who are very active offensively, sometimes lack scoring efficiency and need to excel more defensively, but in future they will be force to reckon with.
