Welcome back and today I am looking at 2 teams from the west to compare rookies. Like last time I will look at 2 teams that picked up the same number of rookies this season but are at opposite ends of the standings. Team 1 is the Anchorage Armada. The Armada picked up 7 rookies this season with one being added this week. The Armada sit in second place in their conference with 54 points. Team 2 is the Vancouver Whalers. The Whalers picked up 7 rookies as well with one being added last week. The Whalers sit at the lower end of the standings with 44 points. I will compare the 6 rookies on each team that have been playing all season. I will not be comparing the mid season pickups as these players haven’t had the chance for an update yet. With that out of the way lets deep dive right in.

Rookie Evaluation:
These rookies are pretty close overall. In my previous deep dive the two teams were at opposite ends of the standing and were far apart in points. These team are at the opposite end of the standings and are only 10 points apart. It makes sense these rookies aren’t skewed heavily toward one team. Last time I highlighted the TPE difference and once again that is an important place to look. The Armada average 230 TPE among their rookies while the Whalers average 223 TPE. 7 TPE on average doesn’t sound like a lot but it is for two reasons. First Mario, Strawberry and Dara could have noticeably better stats with just 7 points. They could take a 5 point stat to a 9 and make a bigger difference on the ice ( and they have a few 5 stats). Second is Alexis. Alexis has 281 TPE and leads the Whaler rookies across the board. Alexis has 18 more TPE than the closest Armada rookies and 27 more than the closest Whaler rookie. This skews their average and with that much TPE each stat point requires more TPE to buy so a little bit of TPE isn’t going to have a big impact. ( I make this statement completely assuming that stat points are linear even though the cost is not). The Armada have more TPE on average and its better spread out to their players. While no one rookie on Armada has 29 points this season, like Alexis, they do average 13 points per rookie. Compared to the 12.8 points the Whalers rookies average and you can see Armada are getting just a little bit more out of their rookies offensively this season. Looking defensively, the Armada rookies average 34 blocked shots and 36.5 hits per rookie. The Whalers are close on hits averaging 35.8 but are way behind on blocked shots with only 18.3. Again these teams are close in the standings. Only 10 points separate them. There are also several other players on the team that affect these games and outcomes. Just based on the rookies, the Whalers are comparable offensively but need to close the defense gap if they want to close the point gap before playoffs.

Approved! +5 TPE @taterswc
