In the Mid S40's, The St. Louis Scarecrows built a dominant team that saw them in the finals 4 seasons in a row, fresh out of a rebuild, and winning 3 straight cups. S43 saw the crows lose in the finals to the Vancouver Whalers, and S44, S45, S46 they won three cups against 3 different opponents. S47 was close, but they lost to a new expansion team on the scene in the Anaheim Outlaws in the conference finals. So, through those five seasons, who was the MVP of the team and led the squad to success for an impressive 3 straight championships? Let's take a look.

5. Coming in at 5th, we have Kiko Rytmeyr. A part of a legendary S42 draft for the Scarecrows, Rytmeyr went inactive shortly after the S43 SHL draft. However, Rytmeyr got to a respectable tpe level and was a staple of the St. Louis squad all the way through the S46 cup. Who knows, maybe if they were on the S47 team he could have been the difference maker? From S43-S46, he was good for at least 7 playoff points, but in S45 he was the second highest scorer with 15 points in 16 games! As a D-man! In S43 he was also top 3 in scoring with 10 points in 12 games as the crows just missed out on the cup. Overall, a big playoff performer and a loved member of the St. Louis dynasty.

4. Bernard Freeman came the season after Rytmeyr, in the S43 SMJHL entry draft. Freeman was an instant hit in St. Louis with an illustrious juniors career as a top scorer on the team and from his draft. Freeman's stint in St. Louis was short lived, only 3 years, but that translated to 2 cups and Freeman scored no less than 12 points in 2 playoff seasons of S44 or 45. Freeman had a heroic performance in S44, scoring 13 points in 11 games and very important goals for the team as they triumphed over the Colorado Raptors. Bernard Freeman may not be a much remembered name in the SHL, or even the SMJHL, but the Scarecrows will always remember his contributions to the 2 cups he helped bring to their franchise.

3. Nicholas Fleming is another player with a meh SHL career, but a very impressive juniors career. Joining the squad in the S44 season, subsequent to Freeman, he did not show up much on the scoresheet his rookie season, but still secured a cup. However, he would explode in S45, leading the team with 17 points in 16 games! The next season was a down season, but another cup secured, and in S47 the team fell short but Fleming still scored 13 points in 13 games with 8 huge goals! Fleming is synonymous with the Crows golden era and if given the choice to draft Flem I would take him 10/10 times.

2. Gordie Boomhover is the youngest member on this list, joining for the S45 season. This was a great class and a great time to join the Crows as the had 2 championships to win yet. Boomhover was a HUGE playoff performer with at least 11 points per season for three straight years. In his sophomore season, S46, Gordie went off for 14 points and led the entire team in scoring. This was a huge cup win as some important crows members had graduated to the big leagues leaving the new guys to cement their spot as the top of their respective classes. Gordie would lead the team again in S47 but not enough as they lost in round 3 to the Outlaws. Overall, a Scarecrow legend that the team loved having around and would go on to have a great SHL career as well.

1. The #1 most important crow in the Scarecrows dynasty is... Nicholas Williams! This one is interesting as he only won 1 of the 3 whereas someone like Fleming got all of them, but Williams was as important off the ice as he was on the ice. Williams created a culture that placed fun and winning at equal levels, leading each game to not only have intensity but enjoyment as well. This LR culture propelled the team to their dynasty status and cemented them as a top SMJHL franchise. In seasons 43 and 44 playoffs Williams led the team in points, finally getting a well deserved cup in St. Louis before sailing off to the Winnipeg Jets to win a cup there, before leading the newborn Specters to their first cup as well. Williams is a legend in both leagues, and should be in the SHL hall of fame as well as the St. Louis one, as the most instrumental player in the Crows dynasty.
