(This post was last modified: 03-28-2021, 11:40 AM by Gwdjohnson.)

Citadelles QUEBEC CITY CITADELLES Citadelles
VS
Armada ANCHORAGE ARMADA Armada

The S58 SMJHL finals are upon us, and we will see the Quebec City Citadelles face off against the Anchorage Armada for the Four-Star Cup. As is tradition, these finals will come with a bunch of TPE available for you guys, in the form of Championship Week!

Here's how this will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like.

ONLY S58 SMJHL ROOKIES (S59 SHL DRAFTEES) CAN EARN TPE FOR CW TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S59 SMJHL Draft, that's not you.

You may claim affiliation from an ISFL or PBE PT for 3 of your 16 TPE total

Code:
Task #1 - 3 TPE (graphic only)
The finals are always a great time for SHL hopefuls to get their name on the map. Make a hockey magazine cover regarding a specific player in the finals, either rookie or send-down, to hype them up.
Requirements: A player render, the SMJHL logo of the team the player plays for (and/or SHL if they're a senddown), the name of the hockey magazine and a tagline about the player in question.

Code:
Task #2 - 2 TPE
Your team is giving back to their supporters by holding a fan appreciation day for one of their games, where the team will hand out a special commemorative item to show thanks for their continued support of the franchise. You have been tasked to design the product to be given out to the attendees (can be a rally towel, foam finger, bobble head, etc.)
Requirements:
- WRITTEN: Write a 100 word blurb about the item, including details on during which game was / will be given out.
- GRAPHIC:  Include a picture of the item and at least one SMJHL logo; must look like you at least kinda tried.

Code:
Task #3 - 2 TPE
Write a magazine style article or make a magazine cover featuring a player comparison from any series matchup. You can compare player stats, etc. or get creative and compare their pregame superstitions or whatever.
Requirements:
- WRITTEN: 100+ words.
- GRAPHIC: Team logos and player renders plus an article blurb or tagline.

Code:
Task #4 - 3 TPE
Professional hockey players are among the luckiest members of a community, but not everyone is given the same opportunities. As such, many players are expected to give back to the community by volunteering their time and energy off the ice with various charitable organizations. Either write about a charity or event that your player helped out with, or create a flyer or invitation for your event, including team logo, a photo of your player render, and the charity/charities being supported by the event.
Requirements:
WRITTEN: 150+ words
GRAPHIC: Include team logo, a photo of your player render, and the charity/charities being supported by the event

Code:
Task #5 - 3 TPE
Make a dream team of players from the Citadelles and Armada (3F, 2D, 1G), and give a small explanation for each pick. Alternatively, make a graphic displaying your dream team.
Requirements:
WRITTEN: 150+ words
GRAPHIC: Include player renders and team logos

Code:
Task #6 - 3 TPE
How would round 1 have gone down if the team matchups had been different? Which teams would be advancing to round 2? Would it have been more evenly matched? Less? (If you're on a team that had a round 1 bye, you can talk about round 2 instead)
Requirements: 150+ words.

Code:
Task #7 - 2 TPE
As I'm sure you've all noticed the postseason uses a 12-team playoff format, which has come full of wacky surprises such as Eastern conference teams playing against Western conference ones before the finals, and a semifinals seeding of 1st vs 2nd  /  5th vs 6th. What is your opinion on the format? Good or bad?
Requirements: 100+ words.

Code:
Task #8 - 3 TPE
You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Code:
Task #9 - 2 TPE
Which series of these playoffs up until the finals has been the best / most thrilling and why? Write a short recap of which series you personally enjoyed the best and talk about the key points of the series, along with what ultimately led to the final result of it.
Requirements: 100+ words.

Code:
Task #10 - 3 TPE
So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Code:
Task #11 - 3 TPE
It's officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. In 150+ words, tell us how you're spending your time this offseason.
Requirements: 150+ words.

Code:
Task #12 - 3 TPE
Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S59 draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Code:
Task #13 - 1-4 TPE
Answer up to 4 of these prompts, each one being worth 1 TPE for 50+ words each.
A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).
B. Anchorage, having gone into these playoffs not seen as a genuine contender, have rolled through to the finals with a 12-4 playoff run, beating two powerhouses in Detroit and Newfoundland in 5 games each. Quebec, on the other hand, after a rocky start to their playoffs against Colorado, just thumped 1st place Kelowna in 5 games in their semifinals. Who looks best going into these finals?
C. You're in another timeline where Kelowna and Newfoundland are the two cup finalists. What went right for them in this timeline's semis compared to ours where they lost?
D. We've been talking about the playoffs, but regular season performance is a key factor in laying the foundation for a solid playoff run. Who was the key player to success for either team (or both) during the regular season and why?

Code:
Task #14 - Latecomer Special - 2-3 TPE
So I see you waited until the end of the finals to complete your tasks! Well congrats to [TEAM] on winning the Four-Star! Reflecting back on the series, who was the series MVP? What about their performance was so outstanding in these finals?
Requirements:
WRITTEN: 100+ words for 2 TPE, 150+ for 3 TPE.
GRAPHIC: Includes a player render and a table with the 3 keys to the series results.

Task 10:

The Vancouver Whalers were supposed to roll over and die. They were supposed to be a consolation prize team, here to collect their party bags and participation ribbons and bow out gracefully. But they didn’t do that, they fought and came so close to making a deep run.

After beating St Louis in 6 games (which would have been a sweep if ST Louis’ goalie RART had not stolen games 1 and 2) they faced off against the league juggernaut in Kelowna and did the truly unexpected… forced them to 7 games. They gave the Knights all they could and came within 1 goal of making a conference finals run.

The young Vancouver team has nothing to be ashamed off as with new emerging talents like Sven Svechnikov, Markus Tater, Dara McQuick and presumptive rookie of the year finalist Alexis Saint-Michel, the Whalers look like they could make a serious run at the four star trophy sooner rather than later.

Task 12:

Toronto has somehow landed themselves the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the upcoming draft and thus they have a lot of options they could use. While what the front office wants to do with that 2nd overall pick is up in the air, in this journalist's mind, the thing they should do with the first overall pick is draft Alexis Saint-Michel, the star rookie winger from Vancouver.

The french-canadian has done it all this year, named to the all star game, led all rookies in goals and points and worked his way into a top six role for a emerging offensive core in Vancouver. He has tremendous offensive instincts and is not afraid to share the goals around, especially when defenders like to forget that he’s not the only forward on the ice. He does need to work on his defensive skills but there is so much potential upside to his game that Toronto should definitely look to draft first overall. (161 Words)

Task 13:

1) Yuuto Kira Cloudera Jr. This name alone should be the main character of an action adventure anime where he’s the protagonist and goes on a quest to save the world or avenge their dead parents or maybe it’s an anime where he runs away from home to join the circus, I don’t know. The Cloudera last name in particular sounds like a metal band from japan. (66 Words)
2) Anchorage. Fear the team that has nothing to lose and everything to gain. The underdog expectations for Anchorage has led the team on a tear that would be considered a finals contender in any era of SHL hockey you care to name. We expected Quebec to be good, not Anchorage… and that is their weapon. (55 Words)
3) For Kelowna, it’s not what went wrong and more what went right in the quarter finals. Their over reliance on Damien Vertigo was exposed by Vancouver which made them easy prey for the ramage offense of Quebec. Newfoundland simply ran out of gas against Anchorage’s defense heavy style of hockey and paid the price for not putting goals up when needed. Armada’s playoff experience did the rest. (68 Words)
4) Mew Two. When you put up 69 points in a season and are considered one of the finest draft+1 players in the league, Quebec could ride that performance into the playoffs and they did. The psychic player continued his run of dominance to such a point that not even Yanno Rosejac and incredible heroics couldn’t stop Quebec when Mew was needed to score. (65 Words)

Kawashima believes that a good start to education is very important for everyone. Since being drafted by Anaheim, Kawashima has been actively part of a charity with the goal of providing the local schools with as many supplies as they can. Think of making sure that all students have the proper books and learning material they need, teachers have the correct supplies to give lessons with. Making sure the schools have enough desks and chairs to support their students. One of the ways they make money is by holding fundraisers together with these schools and involve their students in the process. The other day Kawashima helped with a bake sale the school held.

Kawashima has also been a part of a charity who focuses on kids and playing sports. Kawashima has transfered his ice hockey skills to field hockey and gives field hockey work shops to these kids. He has enjoyed his involvement in the local community by being a part of these chairty organisations.

Goalie: Mat Smith

While I like the numbers Chimkin Tendy has put up espcially looking at his win/loss ratio, I am going to have to select Smith in net. Smith's w/l ratio looks worse with a 8-4, but he has put up a 1.75 GAA and a 0.932 save percentage. Showing that he has been playing excellent and that it is his offense that has been letting him down.

Left Defender: Valdis Vejonis

Vejonis has had a solid campaign so far with 4 points and a +7. He has 17 hits and 14 blocked shots so far in the playoffs, showing he is not affraid to use his body. Paired with a 9-6 takeaway/giveaway ratio he is reliable in breaking the opponent of the puck.

Right defender: Jasper Maximov

Maximov has 10 points (4G, 6A) so far in the playoffs. Paired with a +6 he is letal in his offensive play. He does not throw the body as much, but with 14 blocked shots still provides solid defensive presence.

Left wing: Mikael Koskinen

Koskinen has been an assist machine so far in the playoffs. With 11 assists in 12 games he is an essential part in any offensive set up.

Right wing: Tokkulu Lakkamaa

Lakkamaa has 15 points in the playoffs so far with 7 goals and 8 assists. He is one point behind the leading point man, aswell as one goal behind the leading goal man and has been an absolute pleassure for Anchorage. He provides a bit of both being able to score goals aswell as set up his teammates.

Center: Pablo Salvatici

Salvatici is selected for the center position as the leading point man. He provides another solid playmaker as he has assisted on 14 goals so far, while scoring 2 of his own. With 5 points on the powerplay Salvatici is a leader on instructing that line and finishing the job.

Requirements: 150+ words.

I will always look back at Silverwing as my reference point for how well a rookie season went. Back in S26 Silverwing got a total of 5 points. So anything over that amount is an absolute win in my books. I really liked what Kawashima was able to produce, 9 goals and 18 assists is a solid start to his career. Ignore the -30 and the 30 PIMs he collective over 66 games. Also absolutely ignore the 40 give aways to his only 16 take aways. Kawashima is young and will work on improving all of this. I did not have any expectations coming into the season, all I wanted to do was get more points than Silverwing which I thankfully did. I think for next season I want to be more of an assist man and maybe hit 40 points. Kinda depends I am close to hitting the cap and it will be interesting to see howmuch can be done once I have hit that first cap.

A. Think I have to pick Janis Lux for this prompt. Mostly because of the Lux part of the name, which besides the unit for luminous flux per unit area and being derived from the latin word for light. Is also the name of my favourite champion in League of Legends. So I have to pick this as my favourite name based on that.

B. It's hard to go against a team who has been on a great roll and with that also is riding the forwar momentum. However Quebec has a powerful team, with they proved against the Knights beating them in 5 games. Which also works in their momentum favour. I think I have to look at Quebec as the favourites, but I am a sucker for dark horse stories.

C. Well first of all they scored more goals than their opponents in more games which granted them the serie win. For Kelowna it is a case of actually playing as the 1st place team and not being complacent against Quebec. For NFL it was playing a less hot Aanchorage team with less momentum behind them.

D. It should be obvious for the citadels, but hey had 4 players in the top 5 points. They were absolutely deadly on the ice and scored at an absolutely high pace. For Anchorage it was a combination of their goalies both being able to win games, which is very important for the backup goalie especially. They had a very balanced team in which everyone played a part to be on the score sheets at the end of the night.

Task 2 - 2 tpe
With fan appreciation day upon us, the Carolina Kraken have decided that the best way they can honor the fans is to give them a reminder of their favorite player. When Gino Lombardo was drafted, most of the fans in of the Kraken didn't know who he was. That changed very quickly, as the lovable - and punchable - Gino decided that he was going to punch all of his opponents in the face until he was loved. Our beloved Gino Lombardo finished the season with 13 fights, and 8 very decisive wins, while racking up a formidable 87 penalty minutes. Gino spent enough time in the penalty box, the season ticket holders around the box started to wear custom made Gino shirts. The Carolina Kraken head office is rumored to be looking forward to another Gino appreciation night next season - they're going to have custom Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots for every fan that comes to the final home game of the season. (168 words)

Task 4 - 3 tpe

One of the most rewarding days of the entire season for Cormac was when the Carolina Kraken organized and sponsored a trip for a local Big Brothers Big Sisters based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. The trip was to a local amusement park called Carowinds. Carowinds has been billed as a fantastic day trip for families, but it was made even better by the fact that this was all done for charity. Sadly, Cormac was really looking forward to his first experience at a water park in America, but it was too late in the season for the water park to be open. Being able to go on all of the rollercoasters with his Little Brother was the most thrilling part of the entire experience. Cormac really hopes that this becomes a yearly tradition for the team, and was thrilled to see how the kids reacted to their day at the park. Cormac has also been trying to pitch a more costly trip, with the trip going to the Atlanta Aquarium. That's still in the pipeline, though. (177 words)

Task 6 - 3 tpe

I feel like the ideal first round matchup I would have enjoyed watching would have been the Carolina Kraken taking on the Colorado Raptors. Both teams had a really, really amazing draft class this season and they both had high expectations going into the season. While a finals matchup between the two teams would have been ideal, the task specifically asked about the first round so it's going to have to be the first round matchup of the ages now. I think it would have been a full 7 game series, without a doubt. Colorado brought a lot of skill onto the ice and into the playoffs this season, and would have been the better team skill wise I think. However, Carolina has Gino. I honestly feel that Gino would have been the difference maker in this series, as he would have probably fought every one of the Raptors skill players, giving Carolina the slight advantage when those players were in the box. Plus, a tiny dinosaur probably can't beat a sea monster. (173 words)

Task 7 - 2 tpe

With the change to FHM, the playoff seeding has been a bit chaotic. I'm not a fan of it by any means. I feel like there's a reason the high seed always plays the low seed - it's basically their reward for accomplishing a higher point. I guess the one good thing about it is that we get to see some different matchups in the earlier rounds, something that would have been a finals matchup under the STHS engine. Given the randomness of the sim engine, it could also give some lower tier teams the chance to pull out an upset win and win the Cup. Which, in the end, is what the playoffs are all about. PBE Affiliate PT +3 TPE
Task 8 +3 TPE: My rookie season has come and gone, a game 7 wasn’t in the books, but of course, knowing my luck I’d lose. I thought my rookie season was okay at best, with 15 points, just short of my 20 point goal, which makes more dissatisfied with the lack of ice time I have received last season. Most of the points were assists, as Videl is designed to be a dangerous speedy winger who sets up the big scorers for obviously goals, because you know, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. I played on the third line for all of most of the season, naturally that’s what probably caused my point production to be minimal at best, and nearly invisible on the ice in all or most games. One thing I need to work on is not being a liability defensively, because you can’t crack an SHL roster without some form of strong defense. (155 words)
Task 11 +3 TPE: After Anaheim just fell one game short to advancing in the playoffs, an long offseason begins for Videl Valor, who is eager for the upcoming simulation hockey league entry draft. The first thing she does during this offseason is to teach some young ones or "youngers" as said by Videl, to play Hockey, the sport she loves. She often enjoys watching the young ones try to skate for the first time, and enjoys the moment when they score their first ever goal. The next thing is to practice her skills with her teammate, Shirakami Fubuki, to make sure that both Japanese wingers are both on the top of their game. Most of the time they speak their native Japanese language, since Fubuki can’t speak a word in English, so it’s very common to see Videl translate what Fubuki says. The final thing she does is hang around the beach, practicing her stickhandeling. (152 words)

(This post was last modified: 03-29-2021, 05:29 PM by steveoiscool.)

Task #5 - 3 TPE: The three forwards would have to be Mew Two, Zdenko Beranek, and Igor Petrov, all from Quebec City. These three took 3 of the 4 top scoring spots in the league this season, and have been a threat to score every time they touch the puck. They've been a huge part of the Citadelles success both during the regular season and the playoffs. For defensemen, Jay Sink from Anchorage and Yuuto Kira Cloudera Jr. from Quebec would be my choices. Jay finished the season with a very healthy +21 and 73 hits, averaging about 20 mins of ice time a game. Yuuto had a +54(!) with 82 hits and also adding about 20 mins of ice time on average. For my goaltender I would go with Chimkin Tendy from Anchorage, he's been a brick wall for the boats all season with 8 shutouts and a .927 save percentage. There's great players on both sides of the ice and it looks like it's going to be an evenly matched series. (169 words)

Task #8 - 3 TPE: The beginning of the season was a struggle for Sven. He came to the league expecting to light the lamp at will, feed teammates glorious opportunities, and throw his weight around towards his opponents. Instead, he was stuck at 4 points for about half the season with a -10 at one point. Once he got accustomed to the pace of the game things started to click, and ultimately ended with 22 points and a +8 on the season and adding 4 points in his first career playoffs. While he's not completely content with how things ended up, there was a noticeable upswing as the season went on and it's good to be trending in that direction. Sven is planning to continue to work on being better in the offensive zone, while still trying to not be a liability in the defensive zone. Besides, the other team can't score if they never get the puck. (154 words)

Task #9 - 2 TPE: The most thrilling series of the playoffs by far was the second round matchup between Vancouver and Kelowna. Kelowna won the first 2 games and looked to be coasting to an easy series win until Vancouver won 3 straight and put the Knights on the ropes. Game 6 in Vancouver was a close 3-1 win for the Knights, and Vancouver headed to Kelowna and took the lead early and held it until the 3rd, where it was 3-1 until Kelowna got 2 late goals to clinch the series at home. Vancouver dug deep to bring the #1 seed to 7 games, and hope to build on that effort next season. (110 words)

Task #10 - 3 TPE: The Vancouver Whalers were eliminated in a hotly contested 7 game series by the number 1 seed Kelowna Knights. While Vancouver had nothing to be ashamed of, seeing as how their season was middling at best, it didn't take the sting out of the defeat when they were so close to advancing to the next round. But there's no use in crying over spilled milk, and while the Whalers are losing a significant amount of their top lines to callups, there is plenty to look forward to. Alexis Saint-Michel is primed to take over as the top scorer for Vancouver after having an explosive S58, Makrus "The Tater" Jager came on late but is starting to carve a spot for himself, Dara McQuick is proving to be a rock on the blue line, and Sven Svechnikov is looking to come back and generate more chances than he did last season. With returners like Ako Zile and Narboza Manyhands, Vancouver is going to be scary next season. (166 words)

Task #11 - 3 TPE: Sven came into the league looking to be the best Sven the league has ever seen, and that goal hasn't changed. However, he now has seen that it won't be as easy as he initially thought. He struggled to keep up with the speed of the game initially, but things started clicking about halfway through the season and he ended the season strong. That won't happen again this year. As soon as Sven Svechnikov steps on the ice this year he's going to be in the best shape he's ever been in and taking nothing for granted. So this offseason Sven is living in the gym and practicing everyday with teammates until he goes to sleep and starts it over again the next day. The league will know that this is an entirely new version of Sven as soon as preseason starts, when he and Vancouver will be a force for season 59. (153 words)

Task 2:
In honor of our unexpected success in this postseason, the Colorado Raptors organization has announced the giveaway of three inflatable dinosaur costumes, in team colors, to three lucky season ticket holders on opening night of the coming season! Shaped after the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, all purple and gold, fully cushioned, and affectionately given the internal nickname of "Skating Purple People Eaters" by the arena staff, these costumes are specially designed to accommodate your skates, provide enough visibility to safely make a tiktok or whatever you kids do these days at your local public skate, and are signed by the full roster! Reserve your season tickets now for your chance to terrorize your rink! Go Raps!
(115 words) +2

Task 8:
First season in the books. Despite a rookie season he'd consider being overall relatively poor, Nystrom avoided being a dead weight. For a player brought in for offensive upside, 1-6-7 in 32 regular season games isn't going to cut it going forward. A +6 in the regular season, however, is a good indicator of what he did well: he stepped into his fourth line grinder role and did what the team asked of him. Regardless of what he's being asked to do, a statline of 2-0-2 in 14 playoff games won't do, and nor will finishing the postseason -3. The only playoff game Nystrom performed especially well in was game three against Anaheim, which was a loss. Offensive production and the ability to step up in the clutch will both need to take several steps forward over the offseason for Nystrom to start realizing his potential. The only thing he did to satisfaction this year was hitting, with over one per game and out-hitting almost everyone else who didn't play a full season.
(183 words) +3

Task 10:
We're only losing Dolphin. A team that advanced in the playoffs and took a Quebec City Citadelles team that looks poised to take the Four Star this year to seven hard-fought games is only guaranteed to lose one player. It's possible, of course, that Ren-Ekelemchi Shimizu-Oko will get called up early as well, but that isn't certain. We also had a large number of rookies on our roster this year: Sotakov, Kekkonen, Bingus, Nystrom, and others on the team were all rookies this season, still far off their potential. As these players develop into established players, a rock-solid goalie stays with the team and only gets better, and possibly two but likely only one veteran lost, Colorado aims to be one of the most dangerous teams in the league next season. Of course, the good times won't last, so we need to make good on that shot. Next year may very well be Cup-or-bust for the Raptors, but in any case, next year is the big year.

Task 12:
Scouts this year will have seen occasional flashes of Nystrom's talent on the ice, but perhaps not enough to be convinced. Sure, Nystrom started the year halfway through and didn't have the same kind of time to adjust to the league as most of his class did, but 1-6-7 in 37 games is dreadfully pedestrian for a player the Raptors signed for his offensive upside. How much of that upside is actually there and how much was a Swedish-league mirage is for each scout to determine, but the Raptor's GM has at least publicly been pleased with how the signing has turned out. He raves about Nystrom's locker room presence and on-ice ferocity. When it comes draft day, more than a few organizations may have Nystrom on their board as a high-ceiling, high-floor safe bet. If the offense is there, he could be one of the league's premier scoring power forwards in his prime. If it isn't, he can batter away as a bottom six character player, chip in a goal here and there, and earn his bread in the dirty corners. As he waits for draft day and fends off endless texts from his mama back home in Luleå, Nystrom hopes that if he's picked, it's by a team that believes in his upside.

Task 13:
A. The team with the best names in this final is obviously Quebec, though deciding who on that team has the best name is more tricky. Mew Two and Kappa Kappa are both solid for meme potential, but the best name on that team finally has to go to Tres Sombreros. Because you just got scored on by three hats in a trenchcoat. (62 words) +1
B. Quebec's hard fought series against Colorado should be taken as a point in their favor, not against them. They took everything Colorado could throw at them, and thanks to that hard-fought victory went into Kelowna hot and tore the Knights to pieces. Neither Detroit nor Newfoundland represent the same kind of quality as Kelowna, and while Anchorage did very well against them, Quebec's utter demolition of Kelowna should have put the entire hockey world on notice. Everyone loves to go to their local sports team’s game and receive a small, cheap token of appreciation for their support. They go great along with all your other forgotten trinkets on the floorboard of your car! This season, the Maine Timber decided to go with a small axe, made of foam, of course, for safety! Given out to the first 100 lucky attendees for each Timber home game, the axe is objectively much better than any foam finger could ever be, Maine’s fans now have the opportunity to simulate the chopping of the team’s opponent any time Maine scores a goal to the tune (of course) of Pitbull’s song Timber.

Many people in the league know about Miguel Hefeweizen’s unique heritage, and that he developed a propensity for delicious tacos from working in his mother’s Mexican restaurant in Vienna, Austria. What many people outside of Miguel’s family don’t know is that Miguel’s mother is a breast cancer survivor. In order to honor his mom’s fight against cancer, and to give back to the community, Miguel founded Tacos for Tatas, and organization devoted to both raising money for those fighting breast cancer and also providing meals for those currently undergoing treatment. Several times a year, Tacos for Tatas will host fundraisers where all profits go towards paying for treatment for those diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition, TFT also delivers meals to the homes of people with breast cancer to feed them and their families so they don’t have to worry about cooking. Miguel is very proud of the great things his organization has been able to accomplish, and proud of the clever name as well!

If you paid any attention to the SMJHL at all this season, there is no way you could have missed the terrible season that the Maine Timber had this year. After losing most of their best players this season to SHL call ups, no one was surprised they went 17-46 with 8 fewer points than the next worst team, the St. Louis Scarecrows. First year GM Toast definitely spent more than a few hours pulling his hair out! Unsurprisingly, the Timber lost in the first round to the Berserkers, but they did manage to win a game. However, the outlook is better than their record shows, as the Timber were much improved over the second half of the season. Further, they will be returning most of their first line, and much of their second line rookies who should be much improved after having a season and offseason to earn more TPE. With the 2nd pick of the draft they should be able to pick up another rising star, and hopefully a few more active players to fill out their roster. With these improvements on the horizon, I predict next season’s team should be much improved, with maybe even the chance to win a playoff series. Either way, the Timber should be much closer to contending for a title next season.

Task #11 - 3 TPE
After Maine’s unfortunate season, Miguel Hefeweizen packed up his stuff and headed home to Vienna for the offseason, disappointed in how his first season had gone. While it was no one’s fault in particular that the season had gone the way it did, Miguel knew that he, personally, had a great many things to work on in order to help put his team into contention next season. First, though, he spent a few days sipping on beer and catching up with old friends at home. After that he got to work. The biggest thing that held Miguel back this season was his lack of stamina. He thought that he’d shown up in great shape, but that myth was quickly dispelled, so Miguel made it a priority to hit the weights, but more importantly to lose a few pounds and get some quality cardio in to ensure he could stay out on the ice and be an effective player. He also worked on his puckhandling and passing skills with his old college coach. But Miguel also knows that all work and no play is bad for you, so he took a nice beach vacation the last week of the offseason so he could show up to training camp well rested and ready to go!

I will have to admit that even if I wasn't drafted by the Quebec City Citadelles, I would still have to say that the mascot for the team is the best in the junior league. The owl is a sweet design and is an easy way to make merch for our fans. On fan appreciation day, the traditional gift team usually gives a bobblehead but I can do one better by giving our fans an Owl plush with the QCC design. It has the extra function of being perfectly displayable as a bobblehead but you can squeeze and cuddle with it. It's a perfect gift for everyone at any age!

The dream team between the Citadelles and the Armadas? Oh boy, I have the GOAT lineup for you.
Starting with the Goalie - my choice is Matt Smith from QCC. He has the lowest GAA (which is my favourite stat as a baseball fan) so this is an easy choice. At Left Defense, I got rookie Kappa Kappa from QCC, as he is my player. He is great at defense and sometimes can bring some value to the offense when needed. At Right Defense, I have Brois Petrov ... from QCC. He has the highest defense rating in the regular season and a slew of assists. At Centre, it was hard but I had to choose Zdenko Beranek from yet again QCC. He's got the second most points right behind ... Mew Two, who is my choice at Right Wing! Guess what Mew is also from QCC. At LW, I got Igor Petrov who has as much goals as Mew Two. I bet you won't be able to guess where he's from.
And that is my dream team, an all-QCC lineup cause Armadas players aren't fit for my squad!

I personally think all of the teams should not be eligible to play in the playoffs. If all of them are already qualified to play, what is the point of the regular season? It doesn't really help teams that are genuinely good to suffer the fate of sim luck in a couple game series where they could possibly be upset by a team who lost 80% of their games. I personally think only half the teams at most should be eligible for the playoffs. The format should benefit the top performers as a whole with byes and the likes. In terms of the other factors, I think it's fine if conferences meet earlier as long the seeding matches.

So your team just got eliminated these playoffs, and have to look forward to next season where hopefully things go differently. What does your team have to be excited about for next season, where they'll have another go at the coveted 4-star cup?
Requirements: 150+ words.

We've got, at least as far as I can tell, a ton of players returning from our semifinal run this time around. We'll have a ton of our core older, a ton of the younger guys like me much more developed and hitting that 350 cap around early next season, and those third-year guys able to push their limits further than they could with the 425 cap now coming into play for them. We went into the postseason hot, dealt well with the competition set up in front of us as the 5 seed, and pulled off a better run than I think we may have hoped for going into this season. Shame we ran into the Quebec City wall before we could make the Finals, though I'm pretty pleased with how we ended up playing and I'm confident I can make a much bigger dent on the scene next time around. Just need some fresh meat to fill the lower lines and we'll be set!

It's officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. In 150+ words, tell us how you're spending your time this offseason.
Requirements: 150+ words.

This offseason, I've been spending some time getting training in, talking to several teams in about the upcoming draft and where I might fit in with them, and racking my brain for ideas on what to do for money. I've seen some league jobs pop up and have pondered whether I'll be able to commit to that. Last I had a job, it was an HO gig with a ton of commitment and not much in the way of compensation to make up for it. Wasn't a great personal time in my life since that was the beginning of the shutdowns. I do hope they're getting a better rate more fitting of how much they have to take care of to put everything on, coordinate the league, and settle novel problems when they come about. The next option would be writing. I wrote a lot when I went through this process last time, though that fell off with having a league job. Now that I might not get one, I'll see if there's something like a seasonal article or something I could run twice a season plus draft articles. Gonna definitely fire one up this offseason about the SHL Draft experience.

C. For Kelowna, it takes some significant improvements in their play. They win the crucial battles that swung their contests, and they maybe don't get dumped on in Game 2. For Newfoundland, their one-goal games go the other way. They get critical saves where they fell apart in this timeline, they get that one bounce their way where it didn't go, and they come out on top just often enough. They take the momentum from that 8-0 crusher in Game 2 and run with it to the Finals.

Task 2 +2
One of the most notable things about the whalers is the diversity they have on their roster. So, the team decided to make a new merchandise based on that. On special 'diversity day' games, the team will give away 3 in one merchandise package to 100 random fans. The package will depict 3 most 'diverse' players on the roster- namely a bobblehead of Narboza Manyhands (his many hands bobble too!), a plushie of Strawberry Sailfish (complete with the beautiful strawberry colors!), and a miniature of Robot Sunfish which mimics his iconic ramming move through a spring mechanism. The team is confident that the fans will like this new merchandise, and is planning to sell them on the official team shop if the response is good enough. (126 words)

Task 3 +2
A top 3 enforcer matchup for the playoffs- Gino Lombardo vs Robot Sunfish

One of the most interesting aspects of the first round playoff matchup between the Carolina Kraken and the Vancouver Whalers is not game related- not directly, at least. It's their enforcers who are adding color to this already heated playoff series. Gino Lombardo and Robot Sunfish are both ranked among the top 3 in all foght related categories- namely fights involved, fights won and fight win rate. Lombardo has the statistical upper hand with 8 wins over 13 fights, but the rookie Sunfish also had a heated season with 3 wins over 6 fights. As the series progressed, Lombardo and Sunfish eventually got into a fight, which resulted in a draw. Now the fans are wondering if they'll see another matchup like this next season, and who will be the winner if it happens. (147 words)

Task 4 +3TPE
The Whalers held their annual 'Whalers Kitchen for charity' event towards the all star game break. As a rookie for the team, Robot Sunfish was naturally invited to participate in the event. Even though he was a robot, Sunfish always wanted to give back to the fans whom showed him so much love. So he decided to join in at once. However, there was a problem. The 'kitchen for charity' event was an one day restaurant event, where the Whalers players provided free food and good memories to underprivileged local fans. The problem is that sunfish lacked something essential for those type of events because of his unique physical appearance; namely hands. So Sunfish had to find a creative solution for the problem. It turns out, the solution for this problem was very simple. The team's equipment manager made a makeshift tray, and attached it to Sunfish's body. And with that, Sunfish was able to serve as a waiter for the charity event. Because of that simple creativity, Sunfish had a jolly good time hanging out with fans at the event, and came back home with the satisfaction that he gave back- albeit a little- to the society that he loved. (201 words)

Task 8 +3
Robot Sunfish finished his rookie season with a surprisingly good stat line. On offense, he had 9 goals, 14 assists and 98 shots on goal. And on defense, he recorded 69 (nice) hits, 16 takeaways and 39 shots blocked. Considering that Sunfish spent most of his time in third line or lower, and he only averaged 13 minutes and 40 seconds of ice time per game, this is a very satisfactory result.

Sunfish desired to be a two way player, and to be able to hold his own in every situations. That build strategy showed success, as Sunfish had very balanced stat line and didn't show any significant weakness in anything, which was the designed purpose of this build.

Even if Sunfish is classified as a two way player, you can alsi argue that he is in fact a three way player, as he also doubles as the team's enforcer on top of his normal duties. Sunfish recorded 6 fights, which he won 3 out of, and proved himself to be an effective foghter despite being a rookie. (178 words)

Task #11 - 3 TPE

It is now off-season again and we're getting to a time that i need to focus on my alternative career as a Virtual Idol. I basically do this whenever i'm not playing or training already but as a result i think this is what i'll be doing. However, i guess this off-season it will be very different compared to normal as i will have to set up my set up again while having to get ready for finding out who my new team will be and i am excited about that.

I think that i will be doing a few things this off-season that won't be usual compared to future off-seasons potentially. This off-season i'll be doing more press confrences to get the media acquanted with me and why i am going to be a big deal going forward along with trying to get used to the management staff of my drafted team!

Finally i know i'll be doing some photoshoots and i am very excited about that.

A. Which player from either team has the best name in this series (just the name itself, nothing to do with the player themselves).

One of my favourite player names is Mat Smith. The main reason that i enjoy this name is that i always think it is a reference to Doctor Who as Matt Smith played one of the doctors at one point and i know he was pretty popular. I think that it's just a neat and fun name but also a name thats so average that it'll be fun to make them successful!

Honestly the best team is the Quebec City team as they're just overall superior when it comes to the powerhouse as it is harder to actually pass those kind thing even with how well you may do in a playoffs and all it takes is a good run to mess up and faulter then you're back to square one while as a strong team that has been consistent can keep doing what they do best.

Code:
Word: 75

C. You're in another timeline where Kelowna and Newfoundland are the two cup finalists. What went right for them in this timeline's semis compared to ours where they lost?

This one is very easy a team in my opinion wins and dies by a goalie. Their goalies would have out performed the other teams to keep those goals out of the net something that had not actually happened as it only takes 1 goal to win a game but the opposite is also true and as a result having a superior netminder will make you a scary team!

Code:

D. We've been talking about the playoffs, but regular season performance is a key factor in laying the foundation for a solid playoff run. Who was the key player to success for either team (or both) during the regular season and why?

Following on from my previous answer i think that Mat Smitt was a key player to the Quebec win overall. This is due to having a strong goalie can win and lose games on their own and hold a team on their back if there is struggle for scoring or defense. This was seen in the NHL with Vasi last playoffs.

Task 2: During our last home game, we decided to hand out commemorative Big Yoshi plushies to all of our fans. With this season being the last one in Newfoundland, we decided to honor our captain Vaseline Podcalzone, affectionately nicknamed Beeg Yosh. Watching the crowd all hold up their Yoshi plushes during the ceremony honoring the Newfoundland legend that is Podcalzone brought a tear to my eye for sure. With us coming away with a win in that game, we were able to send Podcalzone out on a high note, and he did a final lap after the game with the crowd cheering and holding up their plushies. (106 words)

Task 5: Looking at my dream team out of Quebec City and Anchorage players, it has to start with Chimkin Tendy as goalie. He led the league in Save Percentage and was 3rd in Goals Against Average and is going to be a star in the SHL. My two defenseman picks are Boris Petrov from Quebec and Jean-Locke Zidane from Anchorage. Petrov led the league in hits and adds great physicality to any team. Zidane led the league in Defensive Game Rating and has been a steady presence on the Anchorage backline. For forwards, I am going with Mew Two, Zdenko Beranek, and Mikael Koskinen, all from Quebec. Mew Two led the league in points and was arguable the best sophomore in the SMJHL. Beranek is the reigning MVP and led the league in assists. Finally Koskinen finished 5th in points and finished behind only Beranek in Defensive Game Rating amongst all Quebec forwards, showing his prowess as a two-way winger. (159 words)

Task 6: When looking at our first-round matchup, we played our bitter division rival Maine. In terms of matchups, we could not have asked for a better matchup than the Timbers, as we had a very good record against them throughout the course of the season, and they were th worst team in the SMJHL. They did play us hard in our series, but we ultimately prevailed. When looking at the other teams we could have potentially played, Anaheim and St. Louis would have been the most likely next opponents. I believe we would have been able to beat both. Anaheim is about a season or two away from being a powerhouse, so this year I don’t think we would have had a problem with them. When it comes to St. Louis, they had a great offense but a bad defense. I think, as a more balanced team, we would have been able to outscore them and move on. (157 Words)

Task 8: I think for a rookie 4th liner, I played well all things considered. My player was worse off since he was created a week before the draft versus after the trade deadline, but he still produced well. Finishing with a positive in the plus/minus category is good for a young player, and I even scored a couple goals. But defensively is where I think I performed the best, as I had a strong number of hits, takeaways, and blocked shots. Looking forward to next season, I want to focus more on improving my game offensively, as I felt my contributions there were lacking. However, I also want to make sure I stay strong in my own end so I can continue my strong two-way play. Finally, working on my overall play on the ice in regards to stamina, agility, and speed are going to be crucial, as being able to keep up with everyone else on the ice is key if I’m going to take that next step forward. (169 words)

Task 10: I think Newfoundland is in an excellent spot to compete next season. The only player we are guaranteed to lose is our captain Vaseline Podcalzone, and with the strong rookie class that we have every player should be either at the 350 or 425 TPE cap early in the season. We were not projected to have a strong season by most people, and I think we surprised everyone by finishing with the 3rd best record in the SMJHL and making it to the semi-finals before losing to the defending champion Armada. But with our roster only getting better next year, I would not be surprised if we ended the season as champions. Anchorage, Kelowna, and Quebec City are both going to be losing a good portion of their rosters to the SHL while we are only getting better, giving us a prime opportunity to be the best team in the league and come out on top. G: Mat Smith
D: Jasper Maximov
D: Josh Jennings
F: Pablo Salvatici
F: Tokkulu Lakkamaa
F: Tres Sombreros

To build my dream team, I mostly use each players stat from the start of the playoffs.

For the goaltender position, I choose Mat Smith from Quebec who has by far the best save percentage and goal against average from the two starting goalies and going with the hottest goalie at the moment is the best choice.

For defensemen, I decided to pick who I consider to be the best offensive and the best two-way defenseman so they can work optimally together. My pick ended up on Jasper Maximov for the offensive defenseman, since he is leading them in points since the start of the playoffs and I pick Josh Jennings has the two-way defenseman, since he has the most impressive Fenwick relative if you compare it with his teammates.

For forward, I picked Pablo Salvatici, because he is the playoffs scoring leader, I picked Tokkulu Lakkamaa for his goal-scoring ability and Tres Sombreros for his fantastic play in both the offensive and defensive aspect of the game.

You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season?
Requirements: 150+ words.

Overall, I would say that I am satisfied with my performance in my first SMJHL season. Of course, I would say that my numbers are not really impressive, but I average only a bit over nine minutes of ice time per game which is completely understandable. Offensively, I would say that I had a really good season, since I scored 12 goals and got a total of 21 points, which I think is pretty good for a rookie that didn’t get any regular power-play time. I was happy to see that I could use my shot as a weapon at this level since I ended the season with a 15.79% in shooting percentage. Defensively, I had a terrible start to the season, and I spent a lot of time trying to improve this aspect of my game during the season and I finish the season with what I consider to be OK advanced, but of course, as my Corsi relative and Fenwick relative show, I still have a lot to do to catch up to the best player on the Falcons.

The SHL team that will draft will received a player who will be able to score goals in every situation. They will get a player who has a dangerous shot who will provide scoring chances both on the shot and on the rebound for his teammates. They will also get a player who will be fast, someone who use his speed to get around defenseman and to find empty space where he can free himself to be in a scoring position when he received a pass from his teammates. This speed will also be useful to win pucks battle by getting to the puck quicker than his opponents. Of course, Lillehammersson will also have some weaknesses. He will probably lack a bit in the physical department which could affect his ability to one-on-one fight into the corners. There is also the possibility that he will neglect the defensive aspect of the game to help the team more in the offensive department.
